That is not a bad shout. The most recent were those quake craters though, so they'd be most likely to show up. They also don't match a moon theme quite so much, but would still work to show a destroyed lunar battleground.(I'd also like to get my mitts on them, missed them the first time around )

Weekender only.

Could potentially appear in one of the old model casting on demand weekly purchases.

Unfortunately, I think it already did, so it may be unlikely to show up again :(

I believe they were on regular sale until a couple months ago when they were removed so don’t think they have come back as on demand yet.

They now include Killzone cards as well which have never been available before so wouldn’t be surprised if they appeared on demand as a Killzone release with the exclusive cards included.

Well, I hope I'm wrong, because I kind of fancy using them in Kill team now

For the record if anyone is interested in Mechanicus, the Core set is basically our 'starter set' right now. Same goes for Genestealer Cultists.

Some of the stuff in there is nice.

Not basically. IS. As in, a starter set includes data cards for a preset team, an 8 page booklet with a short story and some background lore for that preset team, a set of faction tactics cards, and a token sheet in faction appropriate colors. Oh, and two sprues of terrain.

All of this is in the core box for both the factions. The core has a slight advantage in that it also includes a handful of blank data cards for each faction - something the starters don't do, but looks like maybe the commander expansions do instead.

The core box is basically the rulebook, the card pack, two faction starters, and a killzone. It's possible they could break the faction starters and killzone off into independent products (rulebook and cards already available separately), with the three boxes combined containing the exact same terrain as the core.

That's fair, my only thing is that I consider the core set to be less of a "starter set" for either faction and more a "starter set" for playing Kill Team period. You get a board, terrain, all the goodies for actually playing if you're starting from nothing. Only thing one person might have to buy is the core book and the datacard pack(which has the book stratagems in it)

There was a comment made during the post-Kill Team launch that makes me think AdMech and GSC are going to get separate starters later with contents different from the core set. A couple of people have pointed out rubble/ruin that looks to be tied to the new scenery parts so I wonder if those would be the scenery for one of them and the other might get stuff like the Thermic Plasma Regulators that aren't in the big Killzone Mechanicus set.

I'd expect something to come from that, but not as is. It is currently 4 boards and 3 sprues of terrain. I'd expect a Killzone to be only 1 board and double (or triple) the terrain sprues.

I know the AoS version, Blasted Hallowheart, is getting a more complete terrain set version. They've shown pictures of the same style terrain, but multi-level and with large floor pieces. I wonder if Klaisus might get a similar upgrade, which they could borrow for a Killzone...

Right, I forgot about the moon base Klaisus stuff. That will probably be one of the killzones then. Just with a single board and at least double the terrain. Also easy enough to include one or two of the sprues with each of the two kill teams released along side it.

Time it just seems like an easy product repurposing but there maybe some reason they wouldn’t be able to change the number of boards at which point maybe it could play double duty by providing rules for an expanded number of players or points.

I’d also like to see the moonbase set expanded upon if for no other reason than to provide some additional visual focal points or scatter terrain... little bits of equipment like the communication antenna from the objective marker set. Roof and flooring pieces to fill them out and allow slightly more intact buildings would be cool.

I also wonder if they’d eventually do a Kill Zone with the Ork terrain that’s been pictured in “Speed Freek”

I was thinking that Ork or Tau terrain is unlikely, since they already released Ork and Tau kill teams. And it would seem odd to release other kill teams that included Ork or Tau terrain.

Yeah I agree, they’d have to take a different approach than how they’ve done the rest. One way I could see GW getting around to it... Nothing says GW wouldn’t do a second wave of Kill Team sets for each race.

This is my own speculation, but I’ve found the commander expansion as reaffirming my belief that Kill Team will be built upon and slowly expanded upon until it has a mode of play that resembles Combat Patrol, which allowed for more moderately elite units, characters, and light vehicles. I think if my theory holds true it’d make another round of Kill Team sets and a Kill Zone based on the Ork terrain more likely.

As much as I'd like to see a Tau-themed Killzone (and its two thematic companion starter sets, Thousand Sons and Grey Knights), wouldn't faction-specific terrain give a huge advantage to that faction?

We've already kinda/sorta seen that with the starter sets where they get Stratagems tied to the terrain in them. Scions for example really have a hankering to defend empty supply crates.

And Orks can joy-ride on their terrain (which is not very useful but it's cool to have the option)

Spoiler: They're a little disappointing? Tho maybe that's because there's no vehicles for Fingers to pinch ... yet

But seriously, the only stat increases off the basic guardsmen line is Hero +1A, +1Ld and Demo Man +1WS,+1BS? No +1S for Ox? No +1A for Shiv? No 3+ to hit for anybody except Schaeffer (granted it's a 2+, he is the colonel) and this guy: "Demolition Man is an expert with explosives, and is capable of picking any lock and disabling any security system. My point was that of all the Last Chancers to hit on 3+ I wouldn't have expected the super-thief Attilan demo dude to be the only one Not Shiv, not Animal, not Rocket Girl, not Scope, not Warrior Woman, not Hero, but the dude who stole the Amasec and now blows stuff up once a game.

Tempted to tear out the Ghost cards, but pretty sure I'll be disappointed in KT's version of more old friends.

I was curious what all that does:

Reroll 1's to hit
+1 to hit when readied
No -1 to hit when moving
+6" range (42" long / 31" short)

1 CP = +1 to hit
1 CP = Ignore obscured
1 CP = 2 shots but -1 to hit

Still gonna say it's dumb he's 4+ to hit, but that does seem like it's maybe ok for 18 points. 2 CP gets him two sniper shots @ 3+ rerolling 1's? Plus Comms for 2+ and Bring It Down! to reroll wounds, though I have to imagine Larks is off camping by himself mostly.

Back to complaining about the Last Chancers, Scope isn't a Sniper And Demo Man isn't a Demolitionist

Or I'm gonna get ninja'd.

Comms doesn't do a whole lot for him from what I could tell. VoC would grant him rerolls to Wound rolls of 1 through "Bring It Down".

Last Chancers were awesome because they all had their own set of skills, though as Gav oft lamented, these were never really fully implemented game-wise.

Though I do recall that their White Dwarf battle report gave all models custom rules, though I may be misremembering things again. I do remember Grease Monkey being able to hijack vehicles in that one.

They also ran a contest then where you could win a boxed set, if you could answer a simple question: And where is Donald Duck?

I won't spoil it, but if any of y'all somehow haven't seen Dirty Dozen yet, I've got a VHS tape to mail you

In somewhat spooky timing, I recently came across my photocopy of the CA Last Chancers rules when sorting through some game books. And now I'm starting to wonder if I in fact owned the minis? Or just really wanted to?

It was WD 240 January. Last Chancers - The Deadly Mission. The rule about Grease Monkey hotwiring vehicles was in the Chapter Approved, not the mission per se. And yes, nearly all models had special rules. I see Brain still does not have a special rule. Considering he hacked the regimental payroll, he should have some bonus with info terminals etc, but not a big one since he got caught.

If one was using the CA full rules for the Last Chancers you had to play them as is, they counted as Independent Characters, they always attacked first (even against Dark Eldar), could always Infiltrate as long as the scenario permitted. The opponent used the points cost for the scenario, thus in The Deadly Mission Graham Davey had 1000pts of Chaos (Undivided) Space Marines against the Last Chancers run by Gordon Davidson.

The contest was to win a Last Chancers box.

As for Kelly's Heroes ...

My friends all tried to warn me,
but I held my head up high,
My friends all tried to warn me,
But I only passed them by,
They all tried to tell me,
But I guess I didn't care,
I turned my back and,
Left them standing there.

Burning Bridges - Kelly's Heroes Title Track

Andif someone wants Kelly's Heroes for the table ... Warlord Games has them: Oddball Heroes

(The copy of WD was handy because I'm using it as a painting guide. Bought a Last Chancers box off Amazon US two months ago when I saw the GW store no longer listed them.)
