Hmm its definitely suggested - I did like the fact that she also had visions of Isha as a captive - so that story is still going.

I would not be surprised if GW are laying the ground for a pantheon of Eldar Avatars to act as the races Primarch equivalents. Isha keeps getting mentions in the background, while the new 40K WHQ looks to be set on a new Blackstone fortress. So there could be hints about Vaul linked to that game. Then there is always the Laughing god somewhere in the webway.

Apologies, I should have clarified in my first post, but that is indeed exactly what I meant, a stand-alone game with its own board, terrain, two pre-defined war bands, and a story arc that unites all those elements.

I thought that was the case.

I stand by my statement though. They're effectively the same thing--it's just the Commander expansion(as in the book, markers, etc that we saw previewed) will apply to everyone while the stuff in Rogue Trader applies to those two specific Kill Teams.

I feel like it is pretty obvious that Kill Team will replace 40k as GW's tentpole game. That is, skirmish games are replacing large battle games for the most part, plus it lets GW release things like Rogue Trader and have smaller, more interesting releases that don't make sense for a large game. It can tie together the broader lore and setting than a mass army game can. I think for a lot of gamers, Kill Team's smaller footprint, faster playing time, and fewer models is a better fit for them. It's just a better game for what GW wants to do, with the potential of a larger audience (especially the board game/miniature game hybrid crowd, which seems to single handedly be supporting Kickstarter).
...
Eventually, 40k and KT will essentially be equal partners, but I think that skirmish games are just more practical for a lot of people and it will eventually edge out 40k.

I don't know if I'd say obviously, but I agree with pretty much everything else you've said. I think KT will be a go to game for many people whether it's narrative campaigns with friends, lunchhammer at school or store tournaments. Most will spends as much on KT as 40K proper, but just in 3 or 4 armies rather than just one or two.

My real question is this just going to be a diminutive version of the big battle game or will it start diverging significantly to the point where KT releases have little to do with 40K either in structure or in eccentric models. Rogue Trader is the first release that while having 40K rules might not have a lot of use in the "main" game. Will KT steal from N17 or Shadespire in the future? Will Blackstone Fortress cross over with KT?

Kill Team requires a smaller footprint in pretty much every way. Less space needed for models, cases, boxes, terrain, all of the above. You no longer have to own a McMansion in order to host games. Just a regular coffee table is enough, which is very appealing to any sort of gamer.

I think Kill Team's success can already be seen. Some of the Killzones and the Starter Set have been sold out for a month already and despite the controversy, there's still a lot of hype about Commanders. Rogue Trader is also making quite the splash.

The other thing that's appealing is that Kill Team doesn't have an established meta. There are factions that are considered strong right now, but everyone has baited breath waiting for the FAQ and further expansions to see how things fully shake out. Even if the faction that you have now is at the top, if it gets dethroned by something else, it's not nearly as expensive to jump to a different faction, versus 40k where you need to spend hundreds or thousands more dollars to keep up with the meta, and a very stale meta it is.

Balance is better, games are faster, the footprint is smaller, and the fluff is better too. You don't have to worry about Soup. Any Kill Team you can make is going to be fluffy, thanks to the curated model selection.

The main reason, however, that Kill Team won't replace 40k is because of the grander model selection available to armies outside of Kill Team, not to mention whole factions that aren't in Kill Team (yet). You can't play Imperial Knights in Kill Team, and Imperial Knights are incredibly popular, even if you're not playing them for the competitive meta.

There's no tanks, no huge monsters, no daemons, no custodes, no dreadnoughts, nothing of that sort in Kill Team (though I wouldn't be surprised by a 'Boss Fight' mode in Kill Team that adds some of that). Those are all things that are very appealing to many players that will keep 40k alive and healthy.

 Lord Perversor wrote:
we still don't know wich rules and how commanders generally work.

It may be just a set of guidelines that allow a wide range of models take part in KT battles and the ones previewed are just basic idea of commanders in the same way the KT boxes aren't the fully KT possiblities of some armies.

Quick example for marines we can start with a basic template and upon our choices the commander can be a psyker a chaplain or just a kind of captain like model.

We have seen the core Commander rules in Rogue Trader. They can only be used in missions that explictly say either A. missions that all players MUST take a Commander or B. all players may mutually agree to take a Commander.

Are there any rumors as to why Harlequins got skipped in the starter set release?

Sadly no. If I had to hazard a guess, it's because they'll be reboxing Harlequins into 10 model sets and finally releasing a Start Collecting for them to boot. It might also be an issue of terrain or them not wanting to throw another Aeldari faction into the mix so quickly after Drukhari(and yes, I'm aware they've released a large amount of Imperium ones--but this bit has only Imperium terrain, which let's be honest is still better than a Marine faction ).

I'd also suggest it is possible they're planning on releasing Harlequins as part of a static Kill Team like the Rogue Trader set had.
Maybe they release the Harli one that has one half of the Webway gate terrain piece, and an Eldar Kill-Team that has the other half!

They never confirmed that the order of previews would be the order of releases. There's a few reasons I can think of that would explain Harlequins not being released in that same order;
The Kill Team will use some rules that are in the Commanders supplement, so it's being held back until that's out.
There are manufacturing or logistics issues delaying it (perhaps the print run of the boxes wasn't satisfactory, for example, or problems with manufacturing the sprues. Perhaps the coloured plastic didn't work out in this instance.)
There was a delay in writing the background and/or rules material for them.
Or perhaps they were never intended to be released at this point, and we're all speculating over nothing.

OK, at first I wasn't impressed by the newest Killzone board and terrain... But after lugging around the Death World Forest s bitz for 2 games, I can see the benefits of all the flat, linear walls of the Wall of Martyrs trench lines.

I needed a gaming board, and figured Noone else in my Community would have gotten a Death World, so I opted for it. But dang, the trenches sounds like alot more fun, and I already have an Aegis Defense line and sandbag barricades to extend the lines of the Wall.

Also, there is no reason you couldn't have trenchlines erected within a deathworld jungle...

Thinking I might just screengrab those datasheets and print out properly, I actually repainted my own old set of that kit before I knew they'd get special rules.

Gaunt looks like a beast, moreso than the Tempestor Prime I was proxying him as, and I'm glad Dorden gets access to his Medic specialism!

...who is actually a Colonel. They've sold him rather short in his stats. Seeing as it is limited to narrative and open play, would it have hurt to have two commander-level statlines?

Also, the guy in the video wasn't kidding when he talked about the costs of collecting Tanith. I didn't know there were an additional few metal models back in the day (I've found 4 extra models so far), but they individually sell for something like £25-£40 on eBay! That's a lot.

I'm somewhat worried about the prices on these commander expansions. Depending on whether there is a discount, I'll end up getting a lot of these or none of them.

Yeah, this.

About Moon Base Klasius, they'd be fools not to....

I'd expect something to come from that, but not as is. It is currently 4 boards and 3 sprues of terrain. I'd expect a Killzone to be only 1 board and double (or triple) the terrain sprues.

I know the AoS version, Blasted Hallowheart, is getting a more complete terrain set version. They've shown pictures of the same style terrain, but multi-level and with large floor pieces. I wonder if Klaisus might get a similar upgrade, which they could borrow for a Killzone...

I would not be super surprised if the Klaisus stuff does get reworked into a Killzone. They could probably modify the art to fit the new board size, play around with the number of sprues, and call it good.

If they do reuse Klasius, I'd like to see them make some porper moon base looking terrain, rather than the usual urban gothic stuff.

Right, I forgot about the moon base Klaisus stuff. That will probably be one of the killzones then. Just with a single board and at least double the terrain. Also easy enough to include one or two of the sprues with each of the two kill teams released along side it.

We may also see an Ork scrapyard Killzone using the terrain from the Speed Freeks box, and possibly a Tau Tidewall Killzone (which would be a bit odd).

As much as I'd like to see a Tau-themed Killzone (and its two thematic companion starter sets, Thousand Sons and Grey Knights), wouldn't faction-specific terrain give a huge advantage to that faction?

We've already kinda/sorta seen that with the starter sets where they get Stratagems tied to the terrain in them. Scions for example really have a hankering to defend empty supply crates.

This looks pretty darn good. I might get use out of my Sedition Wars stuff after all!

I am fairly certain RPG.net should have a bunch of sci-fi floor tiles you can buy and print, and doors and other such items should be able to be found pretty easily.

I am going to have to go looking for Mechanicus rules when they come out. Wouldn't mind giving them a bit of a go with this system.

Do we think they still have the moon crater sprues somewhere? Could always throw a few of those in.
