Guess I'll see what kinds of flavors are going to be available come release...

That seems unlikely as well. Where does it stop? Why not just put all 40K models into KT then?

I love Killteam as a game but everytime I see a release week used for Killteam stuff I feel like it is wasted.

GW’s profit have gone through the roof this last year+, in no small part to people who share my circumstance. Until last year I had not touched GW for over 12 years. Shadow War Armageddon & Shadespire brought me back. I greatly look forward to Nightvault and Kill Team releases (and the occassional LotR), but nothing else floats my boat.

What I’m getting at is that though the week seems a waste to you, it isn’t for GW; who is raking it in thanks to their recent business decisions.

I was just about to sell off my huge Night Lords CSM Army (despite my username over many forums), but now I gotta wait till after Commanders to see what is salvageable!

I wonder if we are gonna see ol' Vrosh Tattersoul sold off again as the Aspiring Champion special model.

Also, any unboxing of the Wall of Martyrs terrain, and descriptions of the Killzone special rules and missions yet?

I bought Deathworld Forest a few weeks back, but this one fits my terrain aesthetic alot more, and it actually connects to the DW Forest too!

I'll be getting the rules. But the Commander boxes are really gonna depend on the price. Especially as they don't have any terrain to sweeten the deal.

As long as GW has a fanatical fanbase that laps up everything they spew out they can release whatever they want, as often as they want it seems...

Paradigm for a happy relationship with Games Workshop: Burn the books and take the models to a different game.

I'm curious as to the price. I'm thinking they might be $30ish USD...which would be a drop on a few of the more pricey ones(Dominus Techpriest and Primaris Librarian) and let them remove the old stock from sale.

...or maybe GW releases things people want, so those people in turn buy those things. Some people make the mistake that KT is an opportunity to resell people 40K models when in fact it is a way for GW to resell 40K to a market that has abandoned large battle games. This isn't a fanatical base drinking the Koolaid, it's a new market opening up and may be a shifting point for 40K itself--back to the game it started as.

The commander expansion makes a lot of sense if you believe KT is intended as a gateway to 40K.
People can start in the 40K universe with a single box of troops, to start playing KT. Then they can buy another box of more specialized guys as an add-on to add more variety to their KT. Now with this expansion the next step is to buy an HQ model, and just like that the KT models can make a small patrol detachment.
I think they really want to have a seamless transition from KT to small-sized 40K, so people are never in the "I have only 3 kits but can't play with my models" zone.

Honestly I think it’s intended as a stand-alone skimirsh game, a gateway to “big” 40K, and a way to entice existing big 40K players to dabble with more Factions - and it sure seems to be succeeding on every count.

I love new and exticing stuff like Rogue Trader. But this lazy repackaging is just that. Put the book with all the commander rules and call it a day.

I do appreciate though that the Commander rulebook isn't being sold as another big 130 dollar box set with color coded repackaged troops and such. I'm really glad it's just the book this time, plus some tokens. Really will make it easy to tack this expansion on to the main game.

Sometimes I wonder if, in the earlier planning stages, Rogue Trader was supposed to be the starter set: the miniatures designers came up with the Traders and Gellerpox, rules studio was starting to think “hey we should do a proper skirmish game”, those two ideas bump into one other. But then at some point further in the process, they realize that having the first Kill Team release being two fixed mini-factions doesn’t quite say “new way to sell and play with the existing ranges” the way they want and they see the opportunity to dovetail the Kill Team launch with the upcoming Sector Imperialis, so they come up with the starter box we have now, pulling the core game stuff out of Rogue Trader, which instead ends up becoming a scenario box and Commander preview.

Having just got the box today, I don't think it was ever intended for Kill Team at all. At first glance it has pretty much similar content to the new Necromunda, but Necromunda has complete rules for everything in that box. In RT we get a thin book that gives the rules for the two teams and the terrain. But wait, we also get the quickstart rules for 40K proper and two minidexs for said version of 40K. How ironic that you can better player 40K than KT with a box saying it is for KT. Because in order to play KT with the KT branded box, you need the KT core rules...as it so clearly states in a tiny little box on the back.

My guess is that Rogue Trader was going to be another stand alone boxed game, until Shadow War Armageddon came out and exploded. Necromunda was too far in development to change course and the idea for what we now call KT was hatched. Then said standalone game became a supplement for the new KT, the only thing surviving was the 40K rules.

They could have taken the core rules of KT and padded out the book that came in the box. It would have been a subset of KT, but standalone as well.

I mean I like a lot of people have mixed feeling about RT. The minis are great, but it costs as much as the starter box which has so much more. For me the irony is that I probably won't even use the minis for KT so much as for the RPG. I don't think the introduction of KT is firing on all cylinders, but I do look forward to to see what the future brings. I'd expect a game that ends up being a more detailed combat patrol on the big side. GW has to know that skirmish games are hot now and people want something like that for 40K.

Don't know if this info has been seen already, but my online supplier is now quoting the Commanders Set as £35 rrp and the individual minis as £20

€44,50 may be a reasonable price, depending on the thickness of the book and the amount of cards and whatnot included.

€25,- for the characters could be okay? Again depends on the contents of the packs. Kinda annoyed that I'll have to get another POS commissar to get the pack contents.

If they're all €25,-, that'll be pretty decent for Primaris Librarian and the Techpriest Dominus.

For any of these, if you've already got the model and aren't too bothered by faction-specifc tokens, there's no real reason to get the box, I think? Unless of course you want to use the specific character the box is about, with the associated skill tree and background. At least it seems there'll be no exclusive tactics in these boxes.

I'm very curious to see the full list of "Commanders" available in the book. I'm guessing from the description it'll not just be actual HQ units, but also some more powerful units. Hoping for Thunderwolf Cavalry, Terminators and Flash Gitz, myself. Already quite please I can use the Warboss I got in the Stormclaw box years ago.

I've been All In on buying everything so far for KT, but even with me able to get he characters for UK price x2 in AU$ (so AU$40/ea) rather than the more expensive local price it still works out to be ...AU$1640 for 41 models. (Many of which I already own via SC boxes and other sets). So... unfortunately, I think I'll be All Out on purchasing those.

I wouldn't count on all being €25,- it would be nice but I doubt they'd sell those at a discount with extra stuff thrown in.

As for what we may expect, I wouldn't expect Terminators or cavalry, but most other stuff should be in there. It's a list of 41, shouldn't be too hard to comb through their lineup and see what will be added in. I am hoping that the Genestealer Pistolero also makes an appearance.

I wonder how many people ever bought the Techpriest Dominus separately when they're included in both the Admech Start Collecting box and the Forge Bane set.

I did. I only wanted that one model to paint, because it's really cool.

As it happens, I subsequently ended up with a load of Skitarii models, so I could field a small AdMech force, but that wasn't the plan when I bought it.

I did when they first got released since the Start Collecting came out give or take 5-6 months later.

The prices work out to $35USD for characters(big jump for Fireblades, Succubi, and Commissars, etc but right around the current price for the Dominus and Librarian) and $57.75 for the book set.

You don't.

Remember, the box isn't the "Commissar" box with rules for using Commissars in Kill Team. This is the "Feodor Lasko" box, with rules for using Feodor Lasko in Kill Team.

Have the prices already been released somewhere, or are you using the speculated prices above?

Using the prices speculated above. GW works off price brackets rather than 1:1 conversions. The 35GBP price equates to a Predator tank and the 20GBP lines up with the Primaris Librarian or Intercessor Sergeant models.

I really hate that they are bringing auras and command point farming to Kill Team.

Auras I’m not worried about - they are activated abilities that cost CP not always-on buffs. The CP regen is about dicier - I don’t consider it farming until it’s stacking multiple regen mechanics - but what it is is boring.

Going by the article and the 5 cards the named Commander sets come with, it does sound like they are indeed unique skill trees (1 level 1 card, 2 each levels 2 and 3).

Not like Kill Team didn't already have auras.

The named Deathwatch Master's bonus rule feels pretty strong.
