Federal Reserve Chairman: Business concerns over trade tensions are rising
Federal Reserve Chairman Jay Powell said Thursday that the central bank is “hearing a rising level of concern” from U.S. businesses about the impact of President Trump’s tariffs.
Powell said in a radio interview with Marketplace that corporate leaders and analysts in contact with the Fed have become more alarmed about the potential harm Trump’s trade policy could do to the economy.
The chairman added that while the economy would benefit if Trump’s actions lead to lower tariffs and barriers for U.S. goods, a protracted trade war could create “very challenging” economic conditions.

Been to NY a couple times and never really found it to be nearly as bad as people like to portray it. In fact most of the people I have met were nice. Of course it is always been New York City so I'm not sure about places like Albany or Rochester so maybe the people there are just terrible.
I've lived in upstate NY my whole life and there's very little difference between rural NY and rural Minnesota. New Yorkers are no more rude than any other place, there's just a lot more of us. But that wouldn't let him gak on those durn libruls, and defend Trump.

THat's actually the correct way to address a President. Much like 'Your Majesty' for a Monarch, 'your highness' for a prince, 'your Grace' for a Duke and so on.
It's rarely done, however, so, yeah, Kim's sucking up a bit.

This isn't my thought, I saw it elsewhere on the internet, but perhaps the most damning thing about the Trump's compromised relationship with Russia is that Trump has no stupid insulting nickname for Putin.

No, it's used every time the President of the United States is announced into the presence of another world leader. Though again, that's usually confined to places with reigning monarchs, where 'announcing' is still a thing. Which does suggest that Comrade Kim thinks he's Emperor, not Chairman.

Well to be completely fair, the "pageantry" of things is a big part of places like North Korea. The ceremony and display of power and respectability is a big part of reinforcing and displaying the might of the regime.

It depends. Early on we settled on “Mr President”. I believe it was John Adams who was principally involved, though he wanted something more grandiose.
Excellency is a bit of an archaic form, but it’s within the parameters.

I want to thank the USA and Donald Trump. Why?
Well, the other day, our Prime Minister published her Brexit plans. I personally think they are horsegak.
Trump has now come out and said they are horsegak.
Boris Johnson, our former foreign secretary, called the plans horsegak, and resigned the other day.
Johnson and the Prime Minister utterly loathe each other. Johnson was only in her government because of politics.
Trump has said that Johnson would be a great Prime Minister. Johnson and his allies are thought to be plotting a leadership challenge against our Prime Minister
May has risked a lot of political goodwill courting Trump, and Trump threw her under a bus...
The man just blunders in and causes all sorts of fires...

May as the head of an allied government should have totally expected that to be honest. Trudeau, Merkel and Abe should have demonstrated that Trump loves throwing allies under the bus to look good at home. Only Macron has managed to avoid the wheels to some extent, but his time is going to likely come up.

Agreed. America forgets that as powerful as she is, she's going to need these allies again at some stage, even if it's only for votes at the UN.
Trump and America may find a giant middle finger pointing their way sometime in the future.
But I have to admit that giant Trump baby balloon in London is quite funny.
I suspect somebody on Dakka will probably start using it as an avatar picture.

I agree, but the allies of the US are mainly doing damage control, Trump won't last forever and the relationship is too valuable. But this presidency might boost them towards more independence which will result in the above mentioned middle finger for Trump 2.0
The relationship isn't dead yet, but the love might certainly be gone.

On a serious note, political commentators are alarmed at how Trump has shredded the diplomatic rulebook.
Trump has arrived in Britain like your drunk uncle at Christmas. Well, mine anyway.
He's tripped over and knocked down the tree. He's upset the kids by telling them that Santa doesn't exist.
He's made a pass at somebody else's wife, and he insists on telling rude jokes at the table when the turkey is being served...
It's Friday the 13th alright

I did.
I expected Strozk to get raked over the coals and instead was treated to the Republicans (and a fair few Democrats) acting like morons. One of them even managed to get a pretty good jab in just to ruin it with some petty trite moments before. These guys need better staffers to test their comments against.
Honestly I was amazed. Strozk actually managed to walk out of that hearing as the only one without egg on his face imo which is just baffling, and threw some rather scathing comments back while he was at it. Turns out that being calm and mixing in a a very subtle amount of righteous indignation works great for letting everyone else look bad.

Well it's stupid of the GOP to automatically assume personal opinions effect professional performance, and all of his texts are ambiguous enough. But it was pretty stupid of the guy to use his FBI phone to make those texts. Especially if he wants a clear line drawn between his personal thoughts and his professional duties then he should take the effort to keep his personal thoughts on his personal stuff. I don't think it's that big a sin in the grand scheme of things, but in fairness the GOP didn't load the ammunition on this one (they're just making a mockery of it).

I would also argue that those who struck out on so many Benghazi hearings really have no business trying to attack someone else over the potential of personal bias affecting professional decisions.
