Do spoilers even count for this movie? Personally i went in thinking it'd be a dumb action movie you turn your brain off for and it was. It has a lot of meme potential and had some funny moments.
Anyway those were my opinions of the movie. It's dumb, it has action and some dumb humor.

Sci-fi in general sucks with scale. I recall a friend talking about reading a 'Shadowrun' book where everybody was amazed at some hi-tech computer that was pathetic by current day standards.

A novel? Or a rulebook? To my knowledge (at least from 2nd edition on that I'm personally familiar with) Shadowrun's creators were smart enough to always use fake nomenclature for their computer stats instead of real world ones. Automatically Appended Next Post:
Lol, I started noticing with both of those.

I think it was a novel or comic but i'm not sure. He's kind of a friend i only chat with at GW and it was a passing conversation. I could ask him next time i go if i see him though. I don't think it's that important but if you're curious i'll ask.

Reminds me of Star Trek, where Data's given processing speed was lightning fast in the 1980s, but is actually slower than the world's fastest super computers today.

I just saw the movie last night. I thought it was pretty good. I went to see giant monsters beat the crap out of each other, and I was not disappointed. Not in the least. I love the look of the creatures most of all. They stayed true enough to the classic looks, yet managed to modernize them enough to make the whole thing believable on a certain level (I mean, it's still Godzilla, so reality needs to be checked at the door!).
Looking forward to seeing Godzilla and Kong battle it out, for sure!

Or Alien.
Where the Cost of the Nostromo is the Budget of the Third(?) film.

The opening chapter of Neuromancer is horribly dated in two ways; firstly, there's Case's "three megabytes of hot RAM", and secondly, the opening metaphor, "The sky was the colour of a television tuned to a dead channel". In 1984, a TV not tuned to a signal would show a grey screen, like an overcast sky. now, it's a brilliant blue - totally changing the meaning of the sentence! (not that anyone is likely to even see an untuned TV now, since they all tune in automatically).
Star Trek had a bad habit of using "iso-" as a prefix for units (like photon torpedoes having an explosive yield of so-and-so isotons). Plus points for trying to make something up so they don't accidentally use something real, negative points for picking a prefix that essentially means "equal", so an isoton is basically, a ton.

Lets be frank, Mothra has always looked like she could've been in the pokemon universe in one way or another. Butterfly/Moth looking bug pokemon are not that inspired!

Why did Rhodan attack Mothra at the end? Have they a feud going on?
Because Rodan was allied with Ghidorah and Mothra with Godzilla
Is KG actually extra terrestrial? He also regrows a head so is he related to Godzilla?
He's an alien in a couple different of the movie universes.
Who was the big hairy creature that had long tusks? I had not seen him before in films.
He's new to this universe.
In the previous 2014 film Zillas main enemy were these big bug looking things but I didnt see them in this film?
There was MUTO 3 at the end of the movie.

Oops! Forgot that one. Watched it for the first time with my 4 year old a few weeks ago, oddly enough.
I can't wait for the DVD release of King of the Monsters. My kids (4 year old son, 2 year old daughter) saw the 2014 Godzilla just the other day, and they both absolutely loved the modern incarnation. Not even scared in the slightest, surprisingly. Just seeing the hint of Godzilla's back as he was swimming under the ships before his first reveal on Hawaii, and my daughter yells "Oooh, Godzilla!!", and she didn't even know it was a Godzilla movie yet.
Later, she was dancing around miming him in San Fransisco saying, "he swing his tail and smash things!"
They will freak when they see King of the Monsters, I loved it.

It reminded me from WHFB Thundertusk: Getting back to the Kaiu fights, there sure was lot of that going on. But I was not too intrigued by it, I don't think it was anywhere as well written as in Skull Island or previous Godzilla. I think Godzilla and King Ghidorah went 1 on 1 much too early, they should have teased it out a bit first. IMO Godzilla was booked too weak, needing multiple plot devices to beat Ghidorah. And I was disappointed with big 'allied with humans' -angle which turned out to be total dud - military was there maybe like 5 seconds until Ghidorah blasted them out of the sky, then it all came down to similar 'distractions' from individual humans what we saw in Godzilla 2014.

I enjoyed it.
The human element actually wasn’t too bad, though not even seeing the battle in DC I think deserves to be a sin. Other than that almost any scene with the monsters was really good and enjoyable.
The family drama, being completely stupid, cheesy, and driven by cliches was the biggest drag in this film. Pretty much any scene that involved it was worse off, and it really distracted from what’s I think should have been the real character focus; Shirizawa and Jonah, plus the not Mothra twins who I hope will show up in a future Mothra film. This movie would have benefited from less sitcom nonsense and more focus on the monster crisis itself.

Well, we got less human drama (in time and quality) for more monster action, which we bayed for after G2014 (well, maybe not quality). But exchanging the original 'Monarch Duo' for the one dimensional idiots of a third rate 'Agents of Shield' was a raw deal. And the young girl was the least offensive of that awful family.

I feel like the human drama in the first film worked better though. In the 2014 film, sure it got a lot of screen time, but it provided a down to earth/straight forward narrative to stake something on. In this movie, I guess someone decided preventing human extinction wasn't a sufficient emotional stake for the audience so we have to have this brain dead family drama on top of it. One that comes up at all the wrong moments and sucks away the film's energy.
I do agree about losing both of the main Monarch characters from the first film and replacing them with quirky throw away gags masquerading as characters. I can't say I'm eager to see most of them in future films save for the Mothra twins.

The part of the human drama in this one that annoyed me was the whole hostage wife thing and how long they drug that out that you went into it knowing was a lie because she was shown to be a villain in the trailers.

I didn't even notice that in the trailers and saw it really early on just from the way she talked and behaved. It was the most unshocking reveal of the year almost, on par with "the good guys win in the end" for obviousness.
Honestly filmmakers do this so often I feel like there needs to be a test. If I edit every scene involving X from the film, does the movie still make sense? I bet if I went through and edited out every scene with the daughter and the Orca, kept only the Emma scenes that actually involve plotting with Jonah, and removed all the Mark scenes where he's wallowing over his family, the movie will still be about as comprehensible. So why are the scenes in the movie at all?

I just had a thought about the upcoming Kong vs. Godzilla.
Kong isn't like the other titans. He didn't heed the call Ghidora. I'm wondering if this might be part of why he grows so big in the next movie.
During the events of Skull Island Kong is basically a sub-adult, probably about the equivalent of a 13 year old human. This gives him 50 years to grow, but I just don't see his species growing anywhere near Godzilla's size under normal conditions. The key word there is "normal conditions".
Other titans have been shown to massively jumpstart the environment everywhere they go. I can only imagine the more of them there are the more this happens. What if this effects Kong too, and he can feed on it? The monsters are converging on Skull Island. Perhaps their presence just steroids the heck out of him.
