Huh, they are finally releasing the canoptek cloak cryptek separately. Took them long enough.

My initial impressions of the new formation rules are favorable. I was worried they would do what they did before and design it so that you had to take a certain combination of units and give you free rules, but it seems that now all it does is provide a keyword to certain units in a detachment at the cost of a resource.

To me that's an improvement, as you have a lot more freedom in how you build your army, and you do lose something in return. So instead of being forced to take something like 5 units of whatever, you can know choose to give a unit that happens to be in your army a keyword.

Am I alone in not understanding the purpose of the IF formation?

Don't know yet. Probably not though especially since some armies are excluded from the fight.

In more seriousness the stratagem to give additional mortal wounds on 6s is like a lighter Wrath of Mars, I could see it being useful if the units of the formation are able to produce a lot of Dakka like hurricane bolters and such. Maybe CA will see these units having a nice point discount too.

Can't wait to see the AdMech formations !

If they are narrative exclusive, I doubt they will see much of the play, outside of the beerhammer. In short: whatever.

I'm really curious about the Chapter approved markers, the Hard cover and Soft cover ones... may be a change for cover mechanics? or just for some specific missions?

They will be for matched play. This was clarified in a discussion during the Open Day/Weekender/whatever it was a few weeks ago when this was revealed, I'm tired. Narrative-driven simply means they will reflect what is seen in the campaign fluff.

Remember GW considers anything that goes on pre-order as being for that month, even if it's not released until the next month. Therefore it could go on pre-order the 15th, 22nd or 29th of December.

Yes, narrative-driven doesn't mean Narrative Play. Can confirm it was said at the Open Day that it would be for Matched too.

I'm happy to see formations having such flavour, it gives better personnality to the Imperial Fists than their Chapter Tactic, and I hope we see more of that without being broken. Could be the start of a good direction for 8th.

With the Black legion arriving at Vigilus I'm interested to hear what happened to Abby during the last years...
Campaign books are always nice, not only for the fluff but also for some interesting missions. Interesting that CA will also provide another set of missions, even though I find eternal war missions pretty boring it's at least good to have a lot of choice. Hopefully CA will also feature some narrative missions as well.

So basically you pay 1CP to give X units an extra Keyword to play off of 2 keyword specific stratagem, along with a Warlord trait and a Relic that also play off the Keyword.

I can see a couple of these being broken.

Though the Siegebreaker cohort does seem worthwhile. The relic can make any character a Lt. Essentially. Apothecary with reroll wounds of 1 with some cent devs seems too good to be true. Provided centurions get a point drop

That is indeed interesting. One possibility could be that they might make the City Fight rules wider: you know, where you get +1 save from cover as normal but +2 if your guys sit tight in a building and dig in.

Markers ? It's reminding me of Kill Team and I like the direction this is taking. Hopefully with 9th we'll have alternating units as well.

It can only go on a Captain, as only a Captain can get the Siegebreaker Cohort keyword.

And yeah, Centurions need a big points drop. Dakka Centurions are 104pts each right now due to 80 pts base. They need to be like 40pts base. 6 of them is 12 heavy bolters and 6 hurricane bolters. Coupled with Bolter Drill and Seismic Devastation and auras, that could be pretty nasty.

Hero customization and campaign battle honours? That sounds interesting.

Assault centurions are sort of almost useable at the moment. Give them the abiltiy to stick mortal wounds on vehicles on a 6 to wound with their hurricane bolters and flamers, and they might potentially be good... maybe.

I tried some in a stormraven when the codex first came out. They were non-awful. The SR of course then had its points increased, and that pushed them past the point of viability. But I can theoretically see a case for running some in a land raider if the points were low enough. They'll actually do real harm to a knight in combat if they can get there. They badly need an invulnerable though.

It is a pity that Lieutenants, Devastators, and Land Raiders are not included in the options. I know it is based on a formation from 7th, but still seems odd that none of those units can benefit.

Does Captain include both the Primaris and standard version?
