I was going to come off with some wise crack name for your Nugle marines but I have to much respect for the Void Panthers to give them a dumb working title before you decide what you’re really calling this era of them.

Great painting as always. You really know what you’re doing with those colours.

I see you really enjoy working on these guys! It's always fun to find a really motivating project.
They are looking really good already. So many details that I can only imagine how much work they need to get done.

Funny enough, I wondered out loud to my friend the other day, that how come I have never started a Death Guard force as I like painting rust so much.
Or maybe I should just finish my current projects

The Land Raider is truly a huge model. When I was young, I was super jealous of my friends two Space Wolf Land Raiders.

Happy New Year!

Not fair! Now I want to hear the wise crack name! I’m struggling for names tbh, so even a wise crack might stick. And yes, purple gold and green are my go to colours!

Happy New Year!

They’re really cool minis! It’s very tempting to push my Series 3 Space Marine Heroes up the painting queue to keep the theme going. I too am surprised to hear that the master of rust hasn’t done any Death Guard, that needs rectifying Ezki!

We had a great time at the Panto last night and dinner out with friends and their kids, but tonight I had the big to paint. It was nothing but the fun bits tonight; pustules, horns and and Glow!

Finished the sand yellow (I think that’s what it’s called) on all of the pustules. The ones bursting through the armour got a Nuln oil wash to better define their edges, then a tidy up with the yellow. To add to the soreness I made up some more Khorne Red Wash (about 1:5 with thinner) which I dabbed off the tops. A bit more yellow to tidy up and a spot of Yriel yellow to finish.

The horns went Zandri-Ushabti-Screaming Skull, I tried to get the stripes lots of people use but I’m not sure it was particularly effective given how uneven the horns are.

Last up was the bit I was dreading/looking forward to the most; getting all of the glowy bits glowing. I’d done a caliban green layer to set things off, so I slapped on some Emerald Green over a narrower area and the sources of light. A narrower layer of Scorpion Green followed leaving Emerald showing in some of the none source recesses. I finished with a mix of Scorpion and Skull white in the light sources, and that’s where I leave them for the year;

I’m definitely in the pleased camp with how they’ve come together! The glow isn’t quite like darkkt’s but I still like it, especially on the back packs and on the Bolter dude’s helmet. I’m calling them pretty much done, I just remembered they I haven’t done their many rivets, and obviously they need their 3D printed bases doing.

With that I’ll be finishing the year on 89 minis complete, though in reality it’s only 26 as 63 of the total was rebasing my Blackstone Fortress minis. These guys should give me a good head start on 2022, and I should be able to knock out some BSF Terrain too. I’ll save a recap of the year and hobby goals for January. Thanks for all the comments through 2021. I hope you have a good night tomorrow night and all the best of the New Year!

Cheers,

gobert

Haha, you might be right. Maybe I could cook something up for the annual "Space Marine" theme of the Dakka painting competition. Hopefully Nurgle will not tempt me too much. My wallet might not handle it, especially with the new Eldar and possibly DKoK in the horizon...

Ah the horns. For some reason I always hate painting long horns, even though I like how they look on many models.
The effect is certainly visible and very well positioned. You could however darken the stripes just a tad? Maybe not on these guys as doing it again is a pain, but in the future.

Nice work on the glow effects as well. Really brings a lot of character to these guys.

Really cool to see those Plague Marines progress to the finish line! They look really scary, the black armour makes them much more intimidating as their usual color scheme. And it contrasts nicely with all the fleshy bits.

Thanks Ezki, I think a Plague Marine is just what the painting challenge needs! 1 more on the pile of shame won’t hurt, especially if it’s quickly removed!
I like the idea of going darker, I’ll have to try to remember for next time, cheers!

Thanks Viterbi, I agree the black is much more sinister than the traditional drab green.

Happy New Year to you all! Not much to report on the painting front, but I did a bit of hobby time when my daughter wanted to paint on NYE. I decided to tidy up the park converted Indomitus Lieutenant that came with a batch of Dark Angels bits I bought in eBay. I scraped off some of the GS, filed down other bits and gave him a DA head and shoulder pad;

I think he looks broody enough for a Dark Angel now! Him and an ETB Intercessor will be my test models for 2 of the wings, I think I have a scrap bike I can test my idea of a green tinted Ravenwing. I’ve been watching a few Trovarion videos lately and really loved his Grim Dark Blood Angels which suits the aesthetic I’d like to try on these guys. It shouldn’t be too hard to adapt for the Green and Deathwing.

There might be some hobby time tonight, though I might use the time to sort out my started projects and rehouse them.

Thanks for looking

Thanks youwashock, they’ve been really fun to do! Black Plague is my current working title for them too! I’m also intrigued by the Dark Angel, he’s looking pretty cool, but whilst sorting through my hobby stuff tonight I couldn’t find a suitable right arm for him. Does anyone know if Indomitus has a spare right arm as that’s my only source of Primaris bits right now!

As I mentioned earlier I had a big sort of my hobby stuff so I can remove the bureau I was using at the start of this plog to be a desk for my wife in our spare bedroom (so she doesn’t have to listen to me on calls all day long! Her words not mine!). I kind of got distracted whilst rationalising stuff and ended up plotting out the rest of the Demi Company for the Void Panthers. I was worried that i didn’t have sufficient bits, mainly helmets, but with my last eBay buy it seems I do have enough. I ended up getting together everything to make up a 10 Marine Devastator Squad, a third Tactical squad and a full Company Command Squad.

However, I’ve made a bit of a resolution that I’ll get through my primed minis before starting any more builds. That leaves the Panthers with the 2nd Combat Squad of the 2nd Tactical Squad and the 10-man Assault Squad on the painting desk. The Assault Bike, SM:Heroes 2, Dreadnought, Land Raider and the above squads will have to wait quite a while given my painting rate! That leaves me with the following projects for me to choose from;

Blackstone Fortress Terrain
Blackstone Fortress Tokens
Blackstone Fortress Adventurers x 3
High Elf Archers
High Elf Spearmen
High Elf Chariot
Void Panthers Tactical Combat Squad
Void Panthers Assault Squad
Necron Warriors
Space Marine Heroes Series 3 Plague Marines

More Blackstone Fortress Terrain will be next, but what would you guys like to see after that? I’ll probably save the Chariot and Plague Marines for a bit though.

Thanks ShadowsAndDust, I’m pleased with how the OSL turned out. It’s not perfect but good enough!

So this is the 4th attempt at doing a year in minis post (Safari keeps crashing on my phone when I’m using the spacebar to navigate and edit a post). It’s not been anywhere near as productive in terms as painted minis as the past 2, with only 26 done and 63 rebases. Part of that is down to most of them being painted from scratch where many in previous years were touch ups of varying degrees. I also got distracted with other hobby things like rescuing eBay buys;

Plus I got a 3D printer which took a bit of getting used to and some repair

It’s proven it’s worth with the Blackstone Fortress terrain but isn’t really good enough for actual miniatures. I don’t think I can justify a resin printer just yet though!

Building models was a big part of the year, with a Land Speeder. Venerable Dreadnought and recently a Land Raider coming together. But enough of the excuses; here’s the measly few minis I finished this year;
January
===Nothing to see here===
February

Void Panther Tactical Marines
March
===Page intentionally blank===
April

6 x BSF: No Respite Poxwalkers

2 x BSF: Escalation Ad Mech Adventurers
May
===printer error===
June

3 x Blood Angels Tactical Marines.& Company Standard Bearer
July
===build in progress===
August
===printing===
September
===setting base===
October

Void Panthers Land Speeder
November

Blackstone Fortress Dragons Rest Terrain
December

more Blackstone Fortress Dragons Rest Terrain
So that’s the 26 minis that I painted this year, nowhere near the target i set, but I’m still pretty happy with the stuff I’ve done. The Land Speeder being my favourite (though the Plague Marines would win if I finished them last year!) but the Blackstone Fortress terrain has also come out great. I also really pleased with my rebasing project, with the whole of my Blackstone collection getting shined new bases;

Which looking at that pic tells me I managed to complete 1 of my targets which was to have a display board! I had meant it to be this one;

But it’s still laying with its zenithal prime, maybe this year!?!

Thanks for all of the comments and pointers and inspiration through the year! Hopefully 2022 will be a better year, there’s going to be new plastic Eldar, so a good chunk of the community will be celebrating already!

Thanks AustonT, Dark Angels are the plan for my Indomitus Marines, but that'll be a way off yet I reckon. I'll do a few tests and see if they jump the queue or not. the resin temptation is strong, but its more that i'll add to the pile rather than the cost that puts me off!

Thanks Viterbi, I have to admit that I sang the song in my head too! Hopefully you like the OSL on the latest BSF terrain piece too!

No work tomorrow (the joys of a 9-day fortnight) so I squeezed in some painting as I'm away on a Uni reunion this weekend. I didn't do anything complex, just the bolts on the Plague Marines, their bases and as I used the same colour a piece of BSF Terrain.

I'm liking how they've come out, though a closer look at some of the OSL reveals some flaws (power fist skulls for instance). I'm calling them done though I've just ordered some Vallejo Rust Effect that I might apply as streaks from some of the bolts and in some of the pit marks.

The terrain was just a few dry brush colours to get the simple OSL. I'm still amazed how effective it is for something so simple!

An altogether productive evening I feel!

Thanks for looking!

No painting updates as last weekend was spent on the lash with my mates from Uni. It’s been nearly 10 years since I’ve seen them, but it was just like the old days… and that included the volume of beer imbibed, so this week has mostly been recovery! I’m just about recovered and Mrs gobert is out tonight so I’ll be doing lots of BSF terrain dry brushing. So standby for a proper update (assuming the kids go to sleep ok of course!)
