You're saying it's better. Better how?

Underworld is objectively better in every possible way, starting from the fact that it's World of Darkness and WoD Medieval on screen, with Werewolves that look properly Crinos.

Further, Underworld doesn't promote Mormonist grooming of underage girls by middle-aged men to become daughter-brides who are bred as soon as they reach puberty

Well, don't hold back at all.

Sorry, was that not correct, or is that something that we just don't mention?

In the book, a newborn infant daughter is "imprinted" on by an adult male Werewolf, as her destined mate.

How else is one expected to interpret that?

Aaaaaaanyway, it sounds like I need to check out the WoD werewolf novels. Thanks for the recommendations upthread!

See, this is why arguing over subjective considerations is pointless. I would agree that Underworld is 'better' than Twilight, all day every day.

Twilight is indisputably more popular, though, and made far more money and, most importantly, was not aimed at grumpy men who are marching headlong into middle-age, like me.

Also, while it's not a franchise, the 'best' vampire movie is What We Do In The Shadows.

The Fall of Kronstaat IV
Война Народная | Voyna Narodnaya | The People's War - 2,765pts painted (updated 06/05/20)
Волшебная Сказка | Volshebnaya Skazka | A Fairy Tale (updated 29/12/19, ep10 - And All That Could Have Been)
Kabal of The Violet Heart (updated 02/02/2020)

All 'crimes' should be treasured if they bring you pleasure somehow.

Yes, which also segues nicely back into werewolves, actually. Sadly it appears We're Wolves still hasn't entered development.

The old WoD sourcebooks are also fascinating reading. Really good background work.

Is my all time favorite werewolf.

I love how much wolf is present in it. Especially the hands and posture. Much better then the hairy man with a wolf head and claws.

These are my opinions. This is how I feel. Others may feel differently. This needs to be stated for some reason.

Ginger Snaps and the first sequel haven't been mentioned. A little non-traditional, but I enjoyed both films a lot.

Now showing Wasteland Weirdos for TNT and zombies for Dungeon Saga!

Difficult.

I tend to agree that Underworld is better than Twilight.
As for the later is just an average stupid teenage lovestory that got Woves in it.
There are a lot of those and it just happend that this one got more popular than the others (there was another series with Fallen Angels, I am just glad that it it did not made it into pop culture and defiened the look of those)
Even the 2011 Red Riding Hood was a better Werewolf Lovestory than Twilight

But Underworld is not good either. It had potential but they throw it away with part 2.

A good movie about the coming of age thing would be "When Animals Dream" from 2014

So my favourite movies therefore are still The Wolfman (both of them) and Brotherhood of the Wolf (not really a Werewolve story but close enough and the best we got for years by the time)

I also like the Werewolf story arc from Supernatural.

Harry, bring this ring to Narnia or the Sith will take the Enterprise

Just checked my BTC and it's 2 years since I watched that! Had nothing planned for this afternoon, so thanks for the reminder. Absolute cracking film.

No, it was correct, but it's something people usually don't say so loudly for fear of giving offense.

All about Dog Soldiers.

First 'military vs monsters' film where the military actually act like they're trained. No 'oh man, game over man game over'. Lots of 'well, we'll just have to kill them all to death'.

Favourite moment? Letterbox/Hand/Hammer. Just glorious.

Dog soldiers...
I was doing my military service at the time in the wooded Greek mountains. The whole squad laughed at the film and spent the rest off the week jumping at shadows... Epic really.
There was a british film about werwolves attacking a train. Quite enjoyable unfortunately I can't remember the title.

You shouldn't be worried about the one bullet with your name on it, Boldric. You should be worried about the ones labelled "to whom it may concern"-from Blackadder goes Forth!

That sounds like a scene from Underworld.

No, it was a whole film set in the British rail. A late night train stops because of an obstacle in the tracks and the werewolves pick the passengers off one by one.

Sounds like a version of the film where the black kid from Star Wars and his friends get attacked by space yetis, and have to hide in their apartment building

Similary dishonest is pretending we are comparing apples to oranges, like a high-end restaurant to a fast-food restaurant: These are both fairly mediocre film series featuring werewolves and vampires fighting (albeit one does climax in a swole smurf).

You're saying it's better. Better how?

The two 5 part series compared:

Underworld: averaged RT score of 24.6
Twilight: averaged RT score of 39.8

Underworld: averared metacritic score of 36.8
Twilight: averaged metacritic score of 51

Underworld gross box office: 539 million
Twlight gross box office: 3.3 billion

What metric are you using that it's "better"?

Personal preference, perhaps?

Or one could use the "Brittney Spears vs. Aerosmith" argument - just because a bunch of tweens who grew up with it spent a boatload of money on it doesn't make it 'better'. The final analysis of 'better' is 'which one is still played regularly twenty or thirty years down the road.'

Would be fun, but once you get too many similar threads going the mods come in and either combine them - derailing everyone's train of thought - or just shut them down.

Maybe ones this one has run it's course and dropped off the front page they'll let us do 'best vampire'.

That is a nice, impersonal metric that works as a good starting point - longevity.

I find it to be the most reliable, overall.

The down side is, it's not exactly a fast metric to determine...

Twilight was released in 2008, Underworld in 2003. So... yeah, fifteen or twenty years from now.

Well, prediction, underworld is basically forgotten now unless someone brings it up. Teenage girls however love the feth out of twilight and give way less of a gak about how the special effects will age.

Twilight will outlive underworld by a large margin.

While they may remember it 10 years from now, is it going to be with fondness, or with shame?

I think more the latter than the former, like 1970s clothing - more for laughs than anything else:

"Remember when we were so into Twilight?"

"I thought we agreed to never again bring that up."
