So many beautiful entries.

As always, I really like Space Marine month. And as always, some really great entries.

I enjoyed painting my guys. Most of the shading has been washed out in the photos, but I am happy with how they turned out. As usual I ran out of time, so there are a few things that aren't up to scratch...I said I was going to stick to one model instead of groups this year and I've broken that in the very first challenge...going to have to be properly disciplined in future.

Anyhow, these are meant to be Emperor's Spears, though I took a couple of liberties with the traditional paint scheme. This was my first try at sculpting waves with green stuff and I am pretty happy with how they turned out. I also used Idoneth blades to give a more organic, oceanic feel to them, which I think worked fairly well.

Good luck everyone and see in 'The Art of War'!

I'm in with a raging heroes mini.

A marine - in space!

Already finished but I need to get decent photos.

Finally found time amid all of my uni work to finish him off (but not the base unfortunately). Not too proud of the green or the gold, but I quite liked how the blue and cream came out. Rushed the purity seals with a pen (I'm sorry ) . Hope the images send upright this time!

Sorry for the poor quality of the images, I don't really have the money or the time to buy a camera so my phone will have to suffice. Great job everyone, those are some awesome looking miniatures!

After getting bored of painting black templars again and again, I wanted to try out something else.

So I painted an Imperial Fist and a pre Heresy World Eater.

I like the outcome of both of them, but the lesson for me.... I will never ever paint a whole army of yellow space marines....

Here are my finished models.

Got my Blood Angel finished. Tried some freehand on the shoulder pads, pleased with the way the green one came out, less so with the chapter symbol - not easy to do with a jump pack getting in the way. I was also forced to try a glaze to brighten up the helmet as it was too pale after highlighting.

Didn't quite have time to finish Obsideous Mallex and I don't want to rush him, but I did manage to finish his two friends:

Bald-headed marine was done using Duncan's basing technique, which looks fine, but doesn't really seem to match the actual game tiles. So for the second marine I tried to adapt the technique to better blend in; it's getting there, but I need to tweak it a little for Obsidious (hence why he's not finished). Doesn't help that I missed one of the highlights on the grid and didn't spot it until after I'd varnished the base!

Late to start, late to finish, but he's finally at the stage I can share him with you.

Meet Yorim, adept of the Hunt. Hailing from the Lords of Thunder, Yorim favours the lightning-fast mounted raids of his chapter, as is fitting of a successor of the White Scars. The Lords of Thunder put great stock in trophies taken from particularly challenging enemies, something Yorim's secondment to the Deathwatch has given him plenty of opportunity to indulge.

I'm gonna have to call a halt to these guys and go to bed, got a long drive tomorrow. Unfortunately they are only about 90% finished, still need a few extra bits adding like battle damage and finishing off the blending etc. Good luck everyone

Here are my final pics of Lieutenant Calsius of the Ultramarines.

As I said earlier in the thread, the two things I've done here that are a bit experimental are to paint the mini largely with artist's inks rather than miniature paints, and to try to paint him lit from the side rather than above. All the power armour is painted with the inks, to give a different finish to the skin, hair and leather parts. It went on beautifully through my airbrush, but was more difficult to use with a brush. I wouldn't switch over to it permanently or anything, but it's a nice thing to have in the arsenal.

So, like the tard I am I forgot the proof pic, you'll just have to trust me that I started an hour and a half ago when I remembered I needed to submit at least something. But I am done as of now, I just need to upload the images, but that might take me past midnight in 7 minutes. It looks better in person, although it still doesn't look great. At least I can use the 90 minutes speedpaint challengetm as my excuse. Also feth transfers, I have never had a non stressful transfer experience.

Edit: Voila, one dark angels successor, painted in 90 minutes. Quite proud of the helmet actually, might incorporate some of what I did there into my regular painting.
And the time of photo taking is in there by accident too as some kind of verification.

And coming in just under the wire, I'm finally calling my entry finished. If I had more time, I'd probably be able to pick out more details and clean up some sloppy parts (and make the metals a little less flat), but there is no more time and I'm tired of looking at these models. Here are my final pics of my Space Marine Heroes in Blood Ravens colors:

I admit it, this entry is pretty phoned in even for me. I picked up a bunch of the Space Marine Heroes on a lark more or less and was delighted that among the ones I got was the Captain, who's supposed to be hard to find. No matter how lackluster I think these turned out, I at least got something done, so I'm satisfied. Looking forward to the voting, as there are some pretty cool entries in here so far!

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):

Excellent job people and thanks for the kind words!

Chris.
Wow amazing work there buddy. I love the freehand, I only did a small T on the shoulder and that was hard. Kudos mate.

My recipe for the orange.

The middle is a mix or vivid red and orange...essentially a red orange.
On the pallete I make a gradient from base red orange to the ivory and and vice versa to the deep blue. Well, for the deepest shadows I add just a little bit of deep blue.

I hope it helps.

Stuff? That's blood. You know, for the Blood God!

That thing turned out amazing ZoBo! I've wanted one of those for a while now, but the rules have been terrible. Now that CSM have some new stuff to make Daemon Engines good, maybe I'll consider picking one up.

I'm satisfied about the conversion though, I like his pose.

Great work, Zobo! Really great model and paintjob.
Tim 121RVC - what a fantastic idea! There is a simplicity to the model and paint scheme that really works...I think I might have to steal this idea for a future project...

Thanks for the recipe and the compliment, Modock...freehand is one of the things that I want to work on this year. I'm also thinking of trying some Infinity stuff and I've always liked the Nomads but it doesn't seem wise to have so direct a comparison to your work!
Maybe I'll try some Pan-O or Yu-Jing...

Thanks also, Dr. Giggles for your ...here is a photo from the back.
