Yeah, these would look great as ghouls.

At least give em the full Wargames Atlantic treatment, full sets of completely different heads. Must include one with no eyes.

For the Shadowkesh, maybe some bladed limbs like the (really) old Hungries from Infinity?

I prefer to buy from miniature manufacturers that *don't* support the overthrow of democracy.

Eh, bladed limbs might appeal to some, but to me they are just stupid and not functional. They are usually designed missing a joint so they can't be wielded effectively (like those old hungries).

A hand gripping a blade is far more versatile and deadly (whole new range of motion out of functioning wrist). And clawed hands are the feral equivalent.

Maybe bladed hands is some sort of thing tyranid players want? Are there many Tyranid players left? My impression is that they have been unplayable for several editions, but I'm not plugged into 40k at all.

Okay, I... really like those. Simple enough that they could pass for a horde style threat in any sci-fi game and imposing enough that a half dozen could believably be a challenge for a small sci-fi force. I wonder what base size those are on? I'm hoping they are taller than the Eisenkern guys

Those big dagger like claws are great as is. So much cooler IMHO, I mean look at those agile poses, those guys are going to be climbing over obstacles and barricades, swarming over buildings and armoured vehicles in the way something with big scythey blades can only dream of.

Valkirs next, for neo-gothica space hulk?
I might have said this before, but those Maximillian closed helmets are probably the nicest helmets I have seen in the history of sci-fi power armour design.

I'm just saying, I'd rather have a box of 20 that can build 4 distinct species than a box of 30 that are all the one thing.

Yes, I agree with this wholeheartedly.

I also like the base design and heads, so I'll get some either way, but my preference is definitely for fewer models with more options.

I must say, the cannon fodder, aztecs, and aliens are all hits with me. I find most modern miniatures too far over the top - what others call "bland" would have been exciting a few years ago... ...and suits me down to the ground.

I agree.
I find that I enjoy simpler more parsimonious designs more rewarding to paint. They feel easier to scale my effort. Meaning I can really dial up my effort on the couple of areas in the miniature, and do the limited number of "things" well, or just do a quick basic paint job. So you can either end up with a whole miniature done to a high standard, or a passable paintjob.

On miniatures that are designed to the gills, there are just a lot more canvases to try and perfect, but you also can't do a basic paint job because everything is so intricate.

I don't know if I'm making sense, but I'm loving the direction Wargames Atlantic is going.

You're making perfect sense. There is such a thing as "too much of a good thing", after all, and "less is more".

And I think that modern minis design is kinda losing me precisely because of those.

My whole painting style is to choose colors that can be washed the same and highlighted the same.

Blue, black-grey-whitish, yellow, some purples, can all be washed black, soft tone or purple and dry brushed white.

Other colors get washed brown, green or sepia and dry brushed bright yellow.

Efficient, quick, and only a little unimpressive.

It only works with every mm crusted in detail.

I'm with the "less is more". Important detail, defining detail, not detail for the sake of busy-ness. That is something that bothers me about some of GW's offerings. By painting detail A, I screw up details B & C. When I try to fix that, Detail A is lost. Eventually, I give up and concentrate on what details define the figure, in this case it was a Blood Angel Sanguinary Priest, so "Blood Angel" and "Apothecary pretending to be a cleric." Everything else is ignored.

This is why Dark Sword Miniatures work for me. Enough detail to be interesting, but not excessively so. Also, that's a point in Northstar's favor. With the plastic kits, you can add as many bits as you like, and stop when it suits you.

I've receieved two boxes of Iron Core and have started assembling. Gonna be using them as Scions, and have found the Raumjager plasma gun arm fits pretty well, with some green stuff to fill in on the walking poses (standing pose it's fine). Just had to file off the part of the hand underneath the gun. It doesn't bother me that the arm is a little different, as I don't think it will stand out when painted and in a squad.

Plan for painting is very simple: spray with desert yellow, light wash, paint gun and mask black, dryrush metallic silver, eyes blue, done. We'll see how that looks on the first 10!

Please share your results. Sounds like a really good scheme.

That is name I have not heard in a long time. Long time.

Thanks. I wouldnt want them as camp followers, but for the ability to convert in to other projects. Females in plastic that arent in bikinis would be very useful. But I appreciate the link.

You're welcome. But in that case, have you seen the Fireforge Folk Rabble? Now you'd only get 2 women per sprue of five bodies, but it's a start. And you can sometimes get a single sprue on eBay. Perhaps you could get one for experimenting before getting a whole box.

Yeah. I got 4 boxes during the kickstarter. I do like the Folk rabble. The Frostgrave female wizards and soldiers mix well with them too.

Wargames Atlantic are running a suggestions competition at the moment.

Once they have enough suggestions, they'll be put up in voting rounds.

Female campaign followers could be a thing if enough voted for them.

Wow! I'm impressed you caught the reference!

Also, I second the making of camp women as an actual kit. Even if it's just one sprue mono-builds. They look great!
