Cheers midget gems, their resin is fantastic to work with, hardly any clean up needed and I love the scenic bases

Thanks, MidgetGems - coming from you, that's quite a compliment!
I'm a bit ashamed to admit, it is literally just a head swap...a few months back, I wanted to make an all-goblin killteam (for painting, not for playing) and I noticed the size similarity so I tried whacking a grot head on the kharadron leader and some of the gunners...it's like they were made for it!

I agree with the others, queenanne, that is a cool conversion - can't wait to see it painted. It has a bit of an H.R Giger look to it...

I'm going to paint something from a universe where all the science is mad - Star Wars! Seriously, did nobody invent the wheel? Loads of vehicles, and they all either walk, fly, or hover. The nearest thing to wheels would be the tracks on the Jawa Sandcrawler, or BB8's body. I'm going to paint an AT-ST from Star Wars Legion. It's a big model, nearly a foot in height, so more plastic than I usually cover in paint.

There's a papercraft character from the game Tearaway in the background. I made that too! I'm not going to paint it though.

I'm going to try a double header this month. Negavolt cultists from BSF to keep that project ticking over, and my converted cargo Walker that I use in Necromunda and as scenery and needs some paint loving. The cultists are obviously trying to steal it, or have found it abandoned deep in the fortress or soMething. yeah... totally within the rules... totally

Going to put a similar scheme on it to my JEKUB class powerlifter, so simple and yellow and terribly weathered.

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

That is so very cool, Flinty - I love it. Looking forward to seeing it painted. I especially love these challenges when they show off a lot of modeling and conversions - it's awesome to see so many cool ideas to steal!

Here is a WIP of my power-armoured grot - completely plagiarising Darren Latham's paintjob that was in White Dwarf a few months back.
You can see another couple in the background that I've started as well...see how I go with time.
I'm trying something different with this mini, stippling almost everything to create a beaten effect whilst highlighting and shading - having a lot of fun!

My entry will be a Tau XV95 Ghostkeel Battlesuit. Here's my proof:

I figure this is pretty "out there" as far as scientific advancements go, even for the Tau. It should fit the challenge nicely on that basis.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Spoiler:
I'll submit this guy if he counts:

He'll likely end up as a Ynnari Shadowseer or Troupe Master, but really I'm making him just because I felt like it.

Regarding the pictures, the second one is an earlier one just to show the head (the legs were borrowed from a different model and, as you can see from the top image, they've since been replaced by unpainted ones). I'm painting the head separately (to stop the hair getting in the way), but I realised that I hadn't included it at all in the first image.

Edit: Please ignore the above. I accidentally broke the hair on my model whilst painting it, and since my attempts to fix thus far look terrible, I'll be pulling out of this competition.

Progress:

That back part was a real pain to fix so that it would sit properly on the Immolator turret.

After what seemed like hours of sanding and flash removal I have two main components and some small stuff I will secure after painting is complete.

Cheers,

Loving the progress pics some great work underway. Shame about the hair the flesh is weak, maybe you could break all the hair off and do it bald?

I appreciate the suggestion, but unfortunately the long hair and antlers is an important part of the model.

Thanks anyway.

Some progress. Got most of the details at least started, some of the yellow stripes need tidying up a bit and obviously the armour needs some rust so if anyone has any tips for rusting up large areas of metal I'm all ears.

Yup, vallejo black primer with some vallejo grey primer from above. If nothing else it helps pick out the details from just a black base.

I'll throw my hat in the ring, small children allowing.

In with this month's theme: Eldrad.
Required In the Primer

Normally I wouldn't start on the cloak but since I needed to airbrush it, it's where we started. The effect was too strong so I started mixing blue and black washes to create more contrast. That's kind of the problem with the color shift paints is you lose contrast.

Contrast improved, used some brush work with the color shifts to emphasize certain parts. Also, photographing the color shift paints is so sensitive to lighting it's almost impossible to get the right impression unless you are in person.

Meatybtz - that cloak is looking great, is that the greenstuff world colour shift paint?

Jadenim - off to a fantastic start, love the glowing eye and pattern on the base.

Yes, it's both fantastic and fiddly. While it's color shift is great whne put on enough it also tends to wipe out detail. Fine on... Say an eldar or harlequin vehicle. But on single models it is a challenge to get right.

I am using two colors here. A purple to blue to green primary and a green to gold to orange red though that reddish color is pretty subtle and only visible from a few angles.

I'd say you could even use it on the individual masque members. Within reason. Like pick a hue shift you like and ride it.. or go hog wild and use every color each on a different space clown. I honestly don't know if that would turn out awesome or horrifying. But I'd stick to say.. their tights or pants for the hue shifting paints if using on individual models. Their vehicles are prime fit for their use, either selectively or as a general full hull coat.

While you can use them with a brush, and I did while working the tips of Eldrad's cloak the hue shift hmm.. qualities?... uniformity? is much superior with an airbrush. Also a little goes a LONG LONG way.

Just a general pair of shots of some of the wife's vehicles... the one with the color shift as you can see + a second shot. I was a little TOO subtle here plus its going over medium blue and that takes some punch out. So consider that.

But I don't want to crap up the thread with our convo and can move it elsewhere. Maybe start a color shift thread if we want to dive a little deeper.

Here's my entry for this month, a couple Crisis bodyguards for my Shas'o, two suits that encapsulate a odd quirk about Tau ideology: heroism, selflessness, and humility. Not sure if I'll get both done because I'm fiercely addicted to kill team at the moment

First draft of my entry. And probably the final one, because my god, this one was a slog to paint! Not even sure why really, but I think I spent more time painting this than the entire Briar Queen Underworlds warband... I do think he's come out how I wanted, a battered old sky-pirate with very rugged equipment and the feeling that he basically lives in this armour, but it was tough compared to the other Nightvault warbands I've painted in the last couple of weeks. Hopefully the rest of the gang will be simpler now I've settled on an aesthetic and colour scheme.

Any thoughts welcome!
