A few weeks ago, I decided to finally sit down and read the lore books for Infinity (I'm still working through them) and I was surprised to find that the Infinity universe is a fully fleshed out universe, both detailed and deep. I love the lore behind the Combined Army, and of them, the Shasvastii have the most interesting back story (though I think the Sygmaa Trihedron are also cool). I think most people just look at them as generic alien bad guys, which is too bad.

Infinity has great fluff but it can be a big annoying to read sometimes due to how the present it all "in world" as reports and such. The newer books are much better as they tone down that aspect for a pretty good balance of in world and just presenting information.

There are lore books for Infinity? Are they available paperback, without bulky rules sections? Does Infinity have any novels?

Yes, No but the latest books are essentially fluff with a drop of rules (also no paperback), no but has one graphic novel.

The RPG books are also good sources of information.

The rulebook and Human Sphere both come with separate lore books, while the three hardbacks (Uprising, Third Uprising, and Daedalus Falls) are essentially just lore books with a pages of rules in them. There's also a manga called Outrage, but I found it confusing when I tried to read it. It'll probably make more sense now that I'm more familiar with the universe.

The Modiphius RPG for Infinity also has quite a bit of lore in it. Haven't read them, so I don't know if it just retreads the other stuff.

The core book is almost unreadable (and why I've played Infinity for years without getting into the lore). I think Human Sphere was such an upgrade over the core book that I would recommend just going straight to that first. It has overviews of all the factions, so I'm not sure you are missing much.

I looked on amazon, and The Hjman Sphere seems prohibitively expensive. The core rulebook looks to be $15–does that include the background? And how unreadable are we talking?

Is there a cheaper Modiphius book with a good overview?

Note that there's 2 Human Sphere books. Make sure you're looking for the more recent one.

The world is really great. I don't necessarily care for the stories in books for it, but the universe itself is pretty incredible and a fantastic RPG setting.

Infinity the game started out as a setting for Corvus Belli's staff role playing games.

It works well as an RPG because that is what is was always designed to be.

Both the N3 rulebook and Human Sphere should be about $50 and include two books in a slip cover. If you see a rulebook for $15, make sure it isn't the 2nd edition rulebook (though that probably has some lore too, but it's before my time).

I found the core book to read like stereo instructions, or maybe a history book that was written by stereo instructions. Very, very dry and goes on at length about things like trading routes between PanO and Yu Jing planets. I wasn't a fan.

Is there a cheaper Modiphius book with a good overview?
The RPG is around $40-$50 for a big hardback book, if I remember correctly, but I think they sell PDF versions of it for half that. Looks like DriveThruRPG has it for $25.

I believe the player's guide has a decent chunk of info and it's a $12 PDF (I don't have a copy downloaded on my onedrive so I can't check to see). But I have extra copies of the core rules set and human Sphere set I bought years ago on a dirt cheap sale back when my friends played and I don't even think we opened them due to just using the wiki. They're a bit heavy and contain a rulebook and fluff book for each set but if you want to cover shipping they're yours as the sets are just taking up space on a shelf ATM. The core book isn't really unreadable persay but is so over the top on in world presentation you're getting a lot of context switching in a single topic and example would be part of a news article on Maya (Aleph controlled internet) then maybe some classified Pano report then maybe something from the nomads underground internet. All cutting you off in odd places like you're only reading part of an article/letter then jumping to another viewpoint on the same topic. It can get pretty tiring. Later books, as stated, are much better how the handle the inworld presentation of info dumps.

The RPG core book has some new stuff mostly around O-12 (several pages) but a lot of it is basically refining what's in the core book and HS for the RPG crowd and slightly expanding on it. An example would be the RPG Books have brief sections on each planet (maybe a paragraph or three) and a sentence or two up to half that info is new. The Splat Books are hit or miss and think due to the complains about the first on Aridna they've been taking more effort on all of those but Guiteir (SP?) is a huge backlog for them as I think all we've seen in the past 5 months is Yu-Jing as he has to approve everything. But I have all the currently available stuff as a KSer backer and can answer questions to see if you want to buy one of the books.

Does anyone have thoughts on the two troop expansions? I'd kind of like to pick up the whole game, deluxe edition and all that, but all the add ons are getting pricey with no end in sight.

I don't think they are particularly necessary. They are "extra" to Defiance and will have tokens in the box, and as models, they are all available separately as Infinity blisters that you can easily buy later. You just save a little money buying them together.

Disclaimer: All of these prices are in E's.

Going by the prices in CB's store (a.k.a. no discount), the Onyx Reinforcement Pack is:
* Umbra Samaritan (16.95)
* 1 Xeodron Batroid (Normally sold in a box of 2 for 47.95, so 23.98)
* 3 Unidrons (It looks like the sniper from the Unidrons box, and 2 from the Combined Army Starter Pack, so about 8 or 9 each)
* 2 Fracta (I can't tell which weapons they're holding, so it's somewhere between 8 and 11 each)
listed as an add on for 45. I think that works out to being about half price.

The Morat pack is:
* Kornak Gazarot (11.95)
* The Hungries (37.95)
* Suryat HMG (12.95)
* Oznat (I think it's the Oznat from the Morat Aggression Force box, it'd be about 10 as a single figure, but it's sold in a box with five other figures for 44.95)
* Rasyat (16.95)
listed as an add on for 45. Again, that's about half price, but aside from the Suryat it's all either full boxes or models listed as single model blisters on the website.

They are both good deals, but if you buy the Onyx box and decide you want more of those models you'll end up buying duplicates. For the Morat box, you'd only get a duplicate Oznat if you bought the Morat Aggression Force box, and that has the starter box discount attached to it, so it'd only be 8E spent on a duplicate model.

Ask yourself two different questions:
Am I eventually going to want a box of Hungries and those blisters for the wargame? Then buy the Morat box, if you can afford it.

Am I going to want the box of 2 Xeodron Batroids, the box of 4 Unidrons with special weapons, the full Combined Army Starter Pack box, and the two blisters? The longer you think you'll be happy with the "Onyx Sampler Pack" (which is really what the Onyx Reinforcement box is), instead of wanting the full boxes, the better deal it is.

Disclaimer: This is all subject to the usual "discount for bundled products" paradox.

But if you can't afford the models now, like the other poster said, they're putting tokens for each in the game box so you don't need to buy them now.

I do want this, but I'm tired of games that take place in a universe I like... and the board games come with characters that are absolutely not interesting to me at all. Would love to have the ability to make my own character and run a Sin-Eater, Kriza Borac, or Intruder.

I believe there were some hints early on this might be an option as one of the BoW vidoes did say you can use any infinity miniature in Defiance and I would be surprised if spec ops rules didn't make it in. CB has stated multiple times in the comments they're also looking into providing a app or website like army for building content for the game which if they did would also probably have rules for making new characters.

At the end of the day the purpose of this KSer is to get people who like inifinity models/setting but don't want to play the wargame a way to use what figures from the line they like -- so basically selling things outside of the KSer.

I took from the videos that all the models in this game would be usable in Infinity, not the other way around. But I could have missed a video (I am a bit busier these days than usual, so less time for Youtube). If you've got this, link it?

I like Infinity's style. However the sculpts of, "I'm running forward but looking 3/4 behind me" drives me crazy because I can't figure out which way the figure is facing!

It was in one of the BoW/OnTabeltop videos where Carlos and Warren were talking about being able to go to a gamestore and buy any infinity model that just looked cool and being able to use it in Defiance.

That doesn't necessarily mean it isn't a good fit for a KR case. While I understand that it's somewhat unlikely, it would be convenient for those of us who use KR cases if it was true, so... well, so I was hoping it would be.

Most people paint the front arc on the model base, and the new bases include built in arc markers - but you can always use the shoulders to decide facing. Doesn't really matter how you pick a front arc, as long as you always use the same one throughout a game.

Aditional body for Cadin and more!

Hi again dear backers!

We got it! We unlocked the aditional body for Cadin! It´s spectacular!

Thanks for your support!

CADIN “FIRSTSTRIKE” DONN, POINTMAN OF THE 9TH GRENADIERS REGIMENT
There is nothing that Cadin Donn fears more than not living his life to the fullest. Any Wulver born in Caledonia will tell you that life sucks, and that’s why they always sign up for jobs that offer a short life expectancy (not that their society offers them many other job opportunities). Cadin didn’t get any, that much is clear. His story is almost like that of any other Wulver’s coming from northern Caledonia, with the famous trinity of career options available for these people. If you don’t like getting into trouble, you can become a clan laborer, muscle for the hardest work on the farms, in the mines, or in the factories. This is the most stable, exhausting, and boring option. If you like money, you can become a thug for the local mafia, or for a clan, which very often is exactly the same thing. This option is violent, profitable, and it comes with the “perks” of ending up in jail or dead in an alley. And if you aspire to go far from home and see the world, you may join the Caledonian army. This option is tough, respectable, and it comes with a very high chance of not reaching old age. Certainly, for Cadin, there was no doubt: he wanted to go as far away as possible to enjoy and make the most out of what life had to offer.

The thing is that Cadin Donn wasn’t made for tranquility. It’s as if he has a void inside of him, a void that can only be filled with adrenaline and bloodshed. The 9thWulver Grenadier Regiment offered him all the adrenaline and bloodshed he yearned for, and he responded enthusiastically, becoming the deadliest pointman in the whole regiment, earning his nickname “FirstStrike” for always being at the forefront where the action was happening. During his service in the Ariadna Exclusion Zone, Cadin stood out for his expert use of melee weapons and for his brutal efficiency in combat. One of his commanding officers even referred to him as “the most bloodthirsty beast on the Northern Border,” a reputation he earned squarely on the battle front. Cadin volunteered for any dangerous mission, and he was the first one to engage the enemy, an engagement always hostile and most violent, as he specialized in fighting face to face and in the most brutal manner, exploiting the advantage his portentous physique provides him. For these reasons, the Stavka offered him a place in the AEC, the Ariadna Expeditionary Corps, deployed on Paradiso. Cadin signed the transfer even before the recruiting officer had finished talking, and he patted him on the back so hard that he was almost put in the brig for assaulting an officer.

As a result, Cadin would end up farther from his hometown than he could have ever imagined. The AEC’s service for O-12 is a great opportunity for Cadin to explore the Sphere and discover new extreme sports with which to keep in shape and continue enjoying some danger during his rest periods. But for a man like him, always thirsting for self-improvement, once you have set foot on another planet, once you have battled and killed under a double sun, there is no going back home; it’s unthinkable. There is nothing tying him to Dawn anymore. It’s a planet he has outgrown. For this adrenaline junkie, the whole Sphere is now his new hunting ground, and he will travel it at the service of the AEC, under O-12 command, always at the forefront, with his blades drawn and ready to let himself be taken over by his bloodlust in order to take the highest possible number of prey and feel truly alive.

We are very close to unblock the Trisha´s Yubot!

See you soon!

We have breaking news for you!

Welcome back!

In this update, you will see how your game decisions influence in the campaign.

In Defiance the protagonist is you!

The Weight of Decisions

Infinity Defiance tells the story of a suicide mission following a narrative that immerses the players in the inevitable course of events. Characters are loyal soldiers, willing to sacrifice anything to save the Human Sphere. They’re not vigilantes working outside the law or corsairs authorized to do whatever they want. They follow orders, and will therefore accomplish the mission O-12 has been planning for months.

As a safety measure, the Bureau Aegis had formed three teams for three ships: Orpheus, Silencer, and Defiance. Sadly for humanity, the Combined Army attacked several O-12 facilities, revealing they had infiltrated the organization’s intelligence. The Characters barely managed to escape on the Defiance, but they can’t just jump, since the Defiance needs upgrades in order to reduce the probabilities of being destroyed when jumping.

Success or failure?

The result of the missions in Infinity Defiance cannot be measured in terms of success or failure. In terms of gameplay, for us it seemed that if the campaign suddenly ended due to a mission objective not being met. it would be too drastic and frustrating for the player. Infinity Defiance is part of the conflict against the EI, in which loosing a battle doesn’t necessary mean losing the war.

The campaign is divided in two parts, separated by the jump through the wormhole of Acheron, which will inevitably happen at the end of the ninth mission. During the first nine missions, the Character’s top objective will be to gather the required components to completely upgrade the Minotaur engines.

In the Defiance’s control panel there’s a track with five positions that added together result in the Jump Roll. At the end of mission 9, each Character will face their Defense (unmodified) with the Jump Roll and for each [Éxito] obtained (uncancelled by any [Bloqueo]) they will suffer a Consequence.

Every time the Characters end a mission having obtained one of these components, they’ll place a token on this track, thus reducing the result of the Jump Roll. As you can imagine, the Jump Roll can suppose the death of the strongest (Qiang, for example), so in order to ensure a minimal success in the in the campaign’s final objective it’s recommended you get at least three of the five components.

Once they jump, Character will no longer get second chances. There’ll no longer be opportunities to upgrade the Defiance, get new equipment or gaining more experience. The last three missions are actually the same one, but divided into three acts. There can be no regrets, for no chance for rectification will be given.

In short

The idea we want to convey is that, though Infinity Defiance’s campaign structure is lineal, players will have to make meaningful decisions nonetheless. As with video games, replaying the campaign with a different team of Characters sporting a different combination of Specialties and equipment will translate into a new game experience.

How will the Characters evolve through the campaign?

Specialties

As the campaign unfolds, Characters will progress, acquiring Specialties. Each Character has access to three Specialty groups, with 4 specialties arranged in levels (I through IV) for a total of 12, plus a thirteenth unique Specialty for each Character. At the end of a mission, during the game’s Campaign phase, Characters will gain access to a new free Specialty. The maximum level of a Specialty will be determined by the amount of missions played. It’s also possible that some prerequisites (the most common would be having accessed the previous Specialty level) need to be met to get to that point.

Since there’s no Campaign phase after mission 8 (they jump after the ninth), this is the maximum amount of Specialties that may be obtained. So the way the players customize their Characters will be paramount. Let’s take Qiang, for instance. He’s got access to the HI Combat (tank), Heavy Weapon Specialist (offensive), and Leadership (team buff) groups. Which group to develop (or not to) will depend on the playstyle of the player, but their comrades needs have to be taken into account. Their choices will be impactful on the campaign, since there may be missions that require having enough firepower, others may need a good tank to gain valuable time, while some may need coordinated teamwork to succeed.

Intel Packs

Each mission (until the eighth, let’s not forget it) will award each Character with Intel Packs according to their achievements, but not necessarily in an equitable way. With these Intel Packs, the Characters may acquire new equipment (weapons, armor, devices, etc.) and also invest them to upgrade the Defiance. Usually, the first instinct is to save these Intel Packs to get the our Character’s ultimate weapon as soon as possible. Nevertheless, there are upgrades for the Defiance that are of key importance, as mentioned below.

Treating Consequences

In the Infinity Universe, elite soldiers have access to devices such as the AutoMediKit that allow them to recover without assistance from deadly wound Unconsciousness. Regardless, every time a Character uses their AutoMedKit, they’ll suffer a Consequence. Some enemies’ weapons can also inflict Consequences on the Characters. In addition to a negative in-game effect, Consequences remain as a -1 modifier to the [HER]Heridas Attribute, so piling them up will only weaken us.

The only way to treat Consequences is to make a Medicine Roll for each one during the Campaign phase, on the Defiance. But the Defiance doesn’t allow for Medicine Rolls by default, we need to make certain Upgrades for the ship first. When to spend on the Defiance and when to do it on personal equipment is one of the decisions to be made during campaign.

Another possibility to treat Consequences is having a Doctor among the crew…

Allies

On some missions, Characters will have the opportunity to Interact with neutral characters that become Allies and, as such, become part of the Defiance’s crew.

During the Campaign phase, Allies can be assigned to certain areas of the Defiance. Each Ally has their own Ally card that indicates which Effect is activated when that Ally is assigned to a specific area. Rahman, for instance, if assigned as Doctor in Sickbay, allows for a Medicine Roll to treat Consequences.

There’s only one chance to Interact with Rahman, but acquiring him is not mandatory to succeed in the campaign. One of the several choices and decisions to be made during a mission will be whether to devote time and resources to enlist new crew members or not. In case you don’t, the campaign will follow its course, and players will face the consequences.

For your eyes only!

A Defiance expansion spoiler!

It will have:

2 New Heroes

6 New Enemies
