Can’t wait to see your cypher lords, I haven’t seen any to really draw me to their style. I think it’s the silly hats.

The turquoise armor is still really attractive.

Have fun with playing the wife. Mine flat out refuses to play my silly games , and it’s rubbed off on the kids.

Looking good. Even zooming in the Kharadron Overlords look pretty good (obviously great from 3 feet). Interested to see where the Cypher Lords go too.

Since picking that up I’ve made every excuse possible to use it.

While all contrasts go well on metallic, something about that one just stands out from the rest.

Gotta agree with you, it's the bee's knees. I tried several contrast paints over metal, there is one unlucky Deathwatch veteran who has multicolored armour

Thanks youwashock! The name's of the weapons fit their aesthetic, I believe the one with the many barrels is called Decksweeper.

Thanks amazingturtles! The game was fun, but she made it very clear, that it was also the last game. But she hinted at being open to a game of Risk, but that's the extent of strategic planning she is willing to do in a (board) game

Thanks Theo! And re: playing games with wife see answer to amazingturtles But my boys (3 and 5) love all the models I paint so I will try some games with the eldest maybe next year.
The Cypher Lord hats actually grew on me and know it would look weird for me, if they were missing.

Thanks Arakasi! I'm probably more critical of the painting, because I know what I might be able to do with more patience and cleanup, but as I mainly paint for playing 3 feet rule it is

And I had some spare time yesterday evening and finished the test model. Contrast is making paint this models really easy, applied it over all the metals (Leadbelcher) and only the cloth is painted with normal paint. Quite happy with the scheme, went for a little bit more subdued than the brighter studio scheme with more gold.

Thanks Arakasi! It may be a plume or just her fabulous hair But seeing as they all have these, it should be plumes.

Thanks youwashock! The main thing I still dislike is the "earrings" on their helmets. Thought about snipping them off, but the way they are integrated in the head section made me stop this plan.

inmygravenimage wrote:Crazy a$$ model. Crazy good paintjob though.

Thanks Graven!

Trying to finish the next five models this evening, ground work is done and after them it's only the two leader models to finish the warband. Next up after the Cypher lords is finishing the arena, I now have all stuff together that I need: shields, spikey stuff and since yesterday throne, statues and bleeding skulls. Gonna try and prime everything this weekend and should have the arena play-ready by the end of April.

Ok, doing all five was a little ambitious, but after a 90-minute-session I got to this: Four nearly done, they need a second layer of color on the metals and drybrush on the base plus rim color. And went back to the test mini, because I realized the metal has some edges, so why not highlight them with some Stormhost Silver. Worked well, although I may have gone overboard on her sword, because I did some broad strokes on the green blade as well.

Cool additions to the ring Viterbi, the bleeding skulls fit those plinths almost perfectly! I think Hair Hats is probably the official term for their hats, right? The yellow hair looks great, but I’m not sure about the metallic green hair. Perhaps red would work for them? Maybe even bright green or blue too?

Thanks gobert! Was quite excited when I went through my favored online shop and found those additions. The skulls bloodstreams really fit nearly perfect in the opening, it's made to be. Gonna put some greenstuff in, because I don't want to pour to much Blood for the Blood God into it (it doesn't go to the bottom, but it still is a bigger hole). The models don't photograph all that well, because the hair is actually black contrast paint over Grey Seer In reality it looks grayish on the rises and black in the recesses. I wanted to differentiate the fighters, yellow for the cheap ones, black for the more accomplished assassins and purple (& black) for the leader and the right hand.

And here is the whole crew, ready for seeing remote play, a friend will play my Corvus Cabal. Happy with them, especially since I started Monday evening, but close up they are rough in places, tried to correct some stuff, but more because I painted them with the magnifying glass which is very unkind to my painting abilities
Photos don't really show the edge highlights with Stormhost Silver and I did the Gemstones a little subued in red and green over darkened Leadbelcher. I imagine that these specific Cypher Lords were cast out of their city, because their schemes failed and now they wander the Eightpoints, looking for a small dwelling where they can build up a honorable reputation again and get to power.

And I'm looking for a spectator to sit on the throne, but am at a loss. The briar queen seems to small, has anyone an idea where I can get a sitting miniature without too much converting? A fantasy Thanos would be a good one

Actually, that just cudgeled my brain into an idea, Slaan are bad theme wise, but the old Cold One Riders for lizardmen used folded under legs that could probably work as "kneeling on a cushioned mat" Tatami style that you could then attach a demonic torso to, dunno if the new ones do though, or how available those would be.

Didn't know Hasslefree, their range is... interesting Although I don't want to explain to the kids, why the naked lady is lounging on the throne Thanks for the idea, but unlucky atm to find a sitting barbarian.

Thanks, he looks interesting and like someone who would love to watch fighters slaughter each other all day. But the cheapest option I found was 50€, what would make him as expansive as the arena plus the material I ordered to get it painted

Vejut wrote:Cadwallon has him listed with a price, though also listed as "temporarily not available, but write us!", so...probably?

Thanks for the shop tip, but my word, before they sell stuff to people, they should build a better shop, that is one slow server :wow. Funnily enough it shows up as "in Stock" in the Google Search and then as unavailable on the website, so their Markups are bad too. Maybe I can do a little consulting on their shop and get gift vouchers

amazingturtles wrote:The skin might just be what eventually sells me on contrast paints!

Skin colors are very nice, but I'm still getting the hang of them, so they don't pool too much. What I found out with this lot is that a second layer smoothes things but the skin goes from Guilliman to always-sunbathed Cary Grant flesh

Thanks for having a look in your bit box!

Thanks Graven and Vejut, those look great too, but again we will probably venture into price ranges, where they are a bit too expensive for being an ornament.

And to all of you thanks for the quick replies and ideas, I really appreciate it!

And what I found out with a little more experimentation yesterday after posting is the perfect size for a throne occupant: 4 inches from head to toe (a Stanley Shunpike action figure would actually work standing before the throne, at least sizewise if not by theme). The throne itself is nearly 3 inches high, so built totally out of scale with normal models, even an ogre looked lost when I put it before the throne. I'm afraid that most of your ideas would also look lost on the throne lost like the briar queen :(

And I said (of course after I asked for your help ) that I don't want to spent too much on an ornament, but had another idea, which would cost even more, but also double as something playable in AoS. I started the Bonereapers Warband for WarCry but may do a whole army at some point. So of course I would buy Katakros, because he is an amazing model. He looks like he could be tall enough to stand before the throne (may ask ListenToMeWarriors if he can measure him for me). I would magnetize him so he could stand in the arena (floor under him is very thin so could put magnet under it and one on his base. But I think for now I will leave the throne unoccupied... or put a grot on it for comedic effect Again, thanks for your quick help!

And (good lord, I started every paragraph "and" ) I had the second remote WarCry game last night. Very fun and until the last activation the win was up for grabs. Mission was my friend as the defender placed six objectives (which stupidly I removed before taking the after battle pic) he put three near each other in the lower left quarter and three in the lower right quarter, where his one reserve reinforcement would arrive round two. Mine would arrive over the complete lower half.

So turn one was just me moving down with my fighters on the map, no fights.

Second round I was able to burn two objectives (had to hold them end of battle round) in the lower left corner with my arriving reinforcements. That meant that the objective which lay nearly in the middle of the heap was contested all of round 3 (which was the last according to the battleplan).

Round 3: All fighters had activated around the objective, some had died and it was 3-3 around that objective, so my friend would win, because I couldn't destroy it. In the lower right quarter there were still three objectives, one where my Luminate (she's the one with the purple hair and spear) is standing and two a little lower.
It was my turn to activate and my friend had one spear fighter left to activate, he sat on one of the objectives in the lower right quarter. I had two wild dice in the last round and made a quadruple out of a double which meant I had the ability to get a bonus move action and attack action while also gaining Fly for the duration of the ability. First I wanted to go to one of the unoccupied objectives, but that would have meant that my friend would just walk over and we would draw it, which meant I would lose.
So I flew the Luminate over to the last spearmen and with my 5 attacks managed to get two normal and one critical hit, which meant 9 damage to his 8 wounds and winning the game

Looking at the picture now I'm not sure what can be gained, when you weren't there Forgot to take pictures with the iPad while playing, maybe next time.

Thanks The Riddle of Steel! It is still WIP, working on the details of the arena, but it may see battle in May, fingers crossed.

Did the first decorations for the arena, but super glue doesn't hold and I don't want to rough up the paint, so I just used blue tac, should be permanent enough. Loved painting that skin banner
