Cool model (if not a bit WHFB chaosy), although I do prefer the FW version. He looks bloody huge though.

The first thing that happens though is that godawful hammer gets replaced with something a bit more sensible and Middle-earthesque.

Most of the designs that came from the recent anime I found to be off-putting, and this one is no exception with its cosplay armour and comically oversized hammer. What a waste of plastic.

I like it, helm is the one exception where I don't mind a colossal hammer, given that in the background he has a near-mythical level of strength for a human.

The thing I'm most excited about is the campaign book, a proper 11-scenario campaign sounds wonderful and I'm much more interested in collecting the minis from this LotR time period with those to play through rather than just the basic scenarios in the game box.

I liked the movie a lot, it felt like the most LotR-like media in a long time, not shying away from the darker or more mature elements of the setting, so it looks like something I'll pick up.

Not for me I think. I mean GW prices for cavalry characters already meant that was true but if he came in a discount set I'd still be disinterested.

Given the long-ass wait I should be disappointed, but a small journal is fine. Hammerhand is very nice.

I agree, i think it suits his mythical strength. Also i really didn't like the old ones "looking over the shoulder" pose. Always looks weird when he's moving forward or fighting that he's always looking backwards.

That particular pose, odd as it admittedly is, I think would work a lot better if he had his sword raised in a "Follow me men!" pose.
Like he's commanding his soldiers forward.

Yes Helm is not bad but I must admit I prefer the original GW release.

I'd much prefer an anime look for their faces, yet these are decent. Fréaláf is probably not quite what I hoped for but I reckon they'll have a second kit later on, wearing Helm's armour.

Working on a Warg Chieftain and thinking "An Isenguard Werewarg in Edoras", and along with Hera they make quite a nice cast.

FINALLY!

I think that's everyone now. Helm, Frealaf, Olwyn, Lief, Hera, Haleth, Hama. The entire main cast of good guys from War of the Rohirrim. Nice that they're including Frealaf, Olwyn, and Lief in a set, as they're likely to be cheaper together than they would have been separately (although the downside is obviously you have to get ALL of them or none).

As far as the newly revealed characters go, I'd say they're solid. The horses are excellent. Indeed, given how good most of the horses from the recent releases/reveals have been, the icing on the cake at this point would be for GW to reveal a new Riders of Rohan kit. The current ones just look like ass next to the new Warriors and the WotR characters.

My armies (re-counted and updated on 11/7/24, including modeled wargear options):
Dark Angels: ~16000 Astra Militarum: ~1200 | Imperial Knights: ~2300 | Leagues of Votann: ~1300 | Tyranids: ~3400 | Stormcast Eternals: ~5000 | Kruleboyz: ~3500 | Lumineth Realm-Lords: ~700

Now that I've seen Fréaláf, I feel silly for calling Helm a waste of plastic.

Putting all three in the same box at a discount is a good move. I don't see people buying Lief and Olwyn in the same numbers as Fréaláf.
Hopefully they will put out a fully armored Fréaláf sometime in the future.

Little annoying they are placing all three in a set together- I prefer to buy them separately, as I'm more likely to buy extras of some of the characters that way.

Lief for example is a good example of a character that would make for good conversion material- not often you get a good base model for a younger miniature in wargaming (especially from GW)

But it is what it is, and if they do offer a small discount for having three together compared to selling them alone, its not a bad compromise. I'd have brought all the plastic characters anyway, its only forgeworld stuff I'm more choosy over.

I have no skin in this game (or any interest in the Rohan-ime movie) but I really like the Olwyn model a lot. Looks fun to paint and would be great for D&D.

I always liked how the LOTR models routinely have mounted & dismounted characters. Last time I remember Warhammer doing that was for the 6th Editions Vampire Counts.

Err, the TOW Cathay officer they just released comes with a mounted/dismounted version, and the two tomb king hero kits announced a few weeks ago are the same.

Those come with both mounted and dismounted sets of character types(which was fairly common), the Vampire Counts actually came with matching mounted and dismounted versions of the same figure, which is the main difference.

It's tied to the War of the Rohirrim film so they don't have much choice. Some very questionable costumes in that film.

Not his clothes, his skin tone. I think the studio paint job does have a slightly darker complexion than the other characters.
