Subject: Yet another scifi disaster movie coming from roland emerich.
The whole first season is pretty iffy, really. The show hits its stride when it realizes it’s a quippy sci fi action show for continuity porn perverts, from about the time Apophis returns and all through Baal. If you liked Buffy seasons 1-4, you’d probably like SG1.

I would definitely not consider this accurate. He has few bona fide box office flops (Midway, 10K BC) and quite a few monster hits. Adjusted for inflation, ID4 pulled in about 1.3 billion dollars. Even ID4 Resurgence - a genuinely awful movie - pulled in $390M on a $165M budget. Godzilla 1998 pulled in $379 million (600 million adjusted) for $130M/204M and it was objectively one of the worst movies of all time.
Don't hate him or Michael Bay just because he panders to our bad taste in a generally profitable way. For movie studios, he's the equivalent of buying scratch-off tickets that nearly always return a few bucks and occasionally a few hundred.

Oh god... would definitely not agree with this. Buffy is one of my favorite shows ever and I absolutely loathe SG-1.

Episode 4 is pretty bad, it is essentially the first episode in terms of showing what the series will be about, Planet of the week, and man is it bad.....
You're going to hold the whole series to account because of Emancipation? They knew that was bad when they were making it. This isn't some new thing.

I've actually enjoyed a lot of Roland Emmerich's work over the years, although I haven't seen all of his stuff. As for what I have seen:
Stargate: Love this one, plus it led to the creation of one of the best sci-fi TV shows of all time.
Independence Day: Also a really fun movie, if unrealistic. But, I mean, reality is out the window when we're talking about aliens invading Earth with giant spaceships.
Godzilla: I'm probably in the minority here, but I liked this movie. I can see why people hate it though, but mostly that's because people compare it to the far superior proper Godzilla movies (the ones from Japan).
The Day After Tomorrow: This one was...not great. An interesting premise, but executed very poorly.
2012: Entertaining on a certain level (kind of on the same level as Geostorm), but the characters were not likable at all and the whole premise was ridiculous even for a Roland Emmerich movie.
ID4: Resurgence: I enjoyed it, but nowhere near as much as the first one. Way too over-the-top in terms of making everything bigger and badder.
Midway: I really liked this one. Not sure why people hate it so much.

I just love that Will Smith wouldn’t come back for ID42 because he was grumpy about the utter failure of After Earth so they killed his character off between movies.

He also asked for twice the movies Budget.
Will Smith is upset his name isn't as big as it used to be so he asks for way more some reason.
Can't think of a good movie he has been in, nor his children.

Men In Black 1 and 3 are good. I also really liked The Pursuit of Happyness. And of course Ali.

Ah, fair enough.
Hmmm, haven't seen it but apparently the latest Bad Boys film got pretty good critical reviews. Sure, not high cinema but there's always a space for some "shut your brain off and grab the popcorn" action spectacle with snappy dialogue.

Emerich is just one of those directors who struck it big in a specific era and hasn't really evolved in the decades since.
Day After Tomorrow as the point his movies got a little too dumb for me. There's a point where they call out the rate of temperature drop that would hit absolute zero in under a minute and CG wolves and just a lot of dumb cliches. It's not particularly bad, but like similar gimmicky directors, it was just the point where I'd seen enough.

Pushed to think of a bad movie Will Smith has been in myself.
Men in Black 1 and 3 are brilliant, bright is great, he is one of the better things in Idependance Day, Hancock was great....the lost goes on....
Godzilla 98 was not great but it was better than the tedious, laughably bad one in 2014 - ughh that was so bad.

Of course it will. We're getting at least one sitcom set during the quarantine and at least 15 Hallmark movies about couples that meet on Zoom in isolation, or get stuck living together when one tried to leave.

Of course, he lives in a rural small town and is salt of the earth, while she is a career woman in the city. She eventually moves to the country to avoid COVID-19 and realizes that her life has been an empty pursuit of materialism when she can find pleasure in the more meaningful, simple life in her rural, mythical small town her Beau lives in!
