Vigo. Spain.

It has been a fun ride, better for me than the sister box fiasco (I ordered it twice from element games and had to email them for a refund of one) but I'm getting old for this FOMO pre-order stuff. I have my confirmation email but I'm not even sure if I'll get one. Alas, alea iacta est

Tfw you're having a very normal one over a company that makes toys not having functionally infinite manufacturing capacity.

...You do realize that we are in the middle of a global pandemic that has sickened 12 million people and killed nearly 550,000 more?

The initial release was set for three waves, then COVID-19 hit and it all got consolidated into one. I've heard stories of many stores COLLECTING MONEY for a boxset they can't even order yet and then pitching a fit about not being able to provide to the customers they've already collected money from.

Yes. Since it was stated as such from GW themselves, that this was planned with three print runs and had to be the only two they could get, combined into one to get all of the product out...

Indomitus hasn't been sitting in a warehouse since January.

Element Games pulled a fast one on a very loyal postage customer, only putting up the launch day box for local collection. They've lost my custom for good.

/quote]

They handled it very badly. On the collection page if you scrolled down to the bottom it had a link to a delivery order page for the August release wave, that page is now showing sold out/this is only available to order direct from GW.

That said I think the majority of FLGS/Online retailers were screwed with their allocations, they were set up to fail.

I still think the best way to get a copy will be showing up at your local GW store on release day or hoping that a lot more copies are made in the future and are slowly shipped out to online retailers. This happened with the Sister's box last year.

New Sisters was quicker.....I got mine as it became avaialble - a minute later and the site was crashing.

However Sisters was a special case for me - I said I would get them all and I have, pretty much anything else I won't bother anymore - a Genevieve or Amberely model however.....

Firestorm Games are still taking orders right now https://www.firestormgames.co.uk/warhammer-40000:-indomitus

Edit - what's more amazing is GW sold out of the limited edition rulebooks that were priced UK side at the same price as Indomitus. Which surprises me because darn that's a lot of money for sleeve and cover!

There's always small group of dedicated people or who have big enough salary they can afford it. Double my salary and i could afford it without worry as well and i wouldn't even be rich.

Well, that escalated quickly! I suppose I'll wait for the (hopefully) second wave or separate model kits, I've got plenty of backlog to build and paint and it's not like I'm going to be able to play a game anytime soon anyway

I spoke to one of the staff before placing my order there - the stock numbers on the website were live, and as far as he was aware had been updated in line with their allocation before it went live.

Even if this actually were the case.... GW can literally just make more.

COVID is a fun excuse for "BUY NOW OR MISS OUT! NOW! DON'T THINK! BUY!" of standard business marketing though. Cause it's not like they totally never ever did this before.

Actually GW can't just "make more". They can cast more plastic, but the rulebook, card insert and the packaging are all, far as I am aware, come from China. So if they did want to make more it would be in several months as a new shipment would have to come from China.

Plus don't forget time limited discount boxes have to balance being a great deal for customers against being a big hole in the manufacturers potential profits. Don't forget this box isn't getting them new customers its purely selling to existing customers. Customers who likely would have bought all that content at full retail price.

Yes a few might now be starting new armies but that's likely more just shifting their hobby money from one GW army to another.

Also don't forget until the release date we don't know the full lay of the land, it might be that come that date the secondhand market is glutted with options so that if you did miss out on the whole box you'll likely get the content then without much issue or price gouging.

You definitely get the impression that some people think GW can just press a button and starting Monday next week, their factories will churn out another 200.000 copies per day. And the only reason they don't do that is corporate greed

At least at my local GW they said that GW had made an amount of indomitus sets equal to the amount of dark imperium sets sold in the first two months and that it still sold out within 15 minutes. So it is hardly a limited stock and more a matter of just how wildly popular the box is and how much the hobby has grown in the last three years.

Even with the pre-orders running out, the store would still be getting 50ish copies to sell on launch day that you could reserve in store.

Not 200k but if you think in next 3 years 9th ed is here gw couldn't make more if they wanted...it's basically no different to making new print runs of codexes and models which gw does all the time. Only difference is this is discount product.

But sure. Let's pretend gw could only make them for limited time and then magically lost ability. Would make gw uniquely stupid and amateur company.

It's laughable people still defend this horsegak. Everyone knows GW artificially limits stock to make things appear more exclusive. For 15+ years they never once had limited quantities of anything other than special army boxes but now nearly every fething release is limited and sells out within minutes of going up for pre-order, if not before.

Mate, they ain't losing a dime on this box.

You guys continue to have it backward. The "full price" expensive kits exist to get you to buy these bundles.

I didn't say that they can't make more, I only want to highlight that things are not as easy as some might believe.

There is not a factory which could produce every single part of the box (book, the box itself, the miniatures, dice, ...) standing still and empty just waiting for a call from Nottingham to start producing more.

Usually factories sell their capacity for a given time slot. And if you want to order something, you need to wait for a free slot / free capacity.

Even if you actually own that factory, you would have planned what they are going to produce in advance and switching around that plan might not be feasable or doable at the moment.

GW can make more of these boxes in the future and there are already hints for a second run in late August.
