I think the most underrated feature of the Crusade Rules is that there's a mechanism for non-Crusade armies to contribute. You aren't limited to your friend group, and you can advance your story with pick-up games.
If your opponent agrees to play against your Crusade army with their normal army, they get a bucket of extra Command Points. You don't even necessarily have to play Crusade missions; you can just play an External War and still get +1
RP, any experience gained, and any scars incurred. On that note, I think I'll still prefer playing Crusade Missions with points instead of power levels.
It's definitely something I'll try to encourage at my local shop. I can't say enough about how excited I am to play with this system and carry the history of my army into each battle.

Crusade is the sort of thing you would play with friends, or at least that will be the case with me. If you can't trust your friends, they aren't really good friends. The sort of people who are going to cheat on things like that, because they value winning over the experience of playing the game, probably won't play Crusade and will stick with regular match play.
Well, the system itself lets you pick your upgrades even though it provides a chart, much like Warlord traits and Psychic powers. More over, there's not really a *way* to cheat. At best you can lie about how many Crusade points your army is worth, but those numbers are small enough to easily calculate from your army list. There's always the balancing mechanism for gaining additional
CPs for the weaker army. No matter how much you lie about how much experience your army has, so long as the numbers add up, the Crusade system will balance the game for the other player. I think their calculation is about right, most Battle Honors are worth about half a
CP.
And hey, again, it's not really like anyone cares what you do to your own ledger unless you're in a strict league. You may play a couple games and realize you don't like the upgrade you picked for a unit's 2nd Battle Honor. While the rules require you reset its progress down to 0, then spend 5 or 6 games to get it back to Battle Hardened, I don't think anyone will care if you just change your upgrade. It certainly has no in-game affect, it's just a matter of saving time.
