Working on these marines for the painting comp. Work has been hellish busy this month so I've only really had time to do the painting in this last week. Couple of little touch ups I need to do that I've noticed in the photos. Then I can work on the Lieutenant and hopefully finish in time!

Bit of a grind really because I want to be painting up my Votann Kill Team, but more on that soon!

I came here because your "mices with dices" quote made me laugh, so I thought I'd check out your painting.

Well, damn. You're a great painter, and you have creativity to spare. I'd never even heard of the "gateway to hell" in Ethiopia, or that absurd tracked motorbike. And even though I own those admech models you painted, they've sat dusty because I never imagined they could look as good as you've made them look.

Not that I have skills to equal yours. But overall, I'm happy to be someone with so much to learn. (It keeps things interesting.)

Anyway, just keep on doing what you're doing. Very inspiring stuff.

Nicely done figures and as usual- love the alien flora that provides a spot of color and makes the whole thing pop!

I also love the new figures and the realistic (in heroic scale) sense of articulation they convey: a far cry from the magnificent but somewhat stilted original RT metallics and even the first set of plastic Space Marines that gave us so much more choice for arranging and positioning. The posing is excellent, here.

Rock on!

Thanks, I didn't really want a space marine army but I've now got a large one simply from the Indomitus and Leviathan boxes..

Heya mate, welcome to my blog your kind words are very much appreciated! You should post up some minis if you can, would be great to see them.

Cheers me deers! Once I finish Leviathan minis and the Votann I'll definitely post up some army shots, there's nowt finer.

Cheers Meer_Cat! I quite like the Primaris marines, especially now they have more character to them. I think this particular Lieutenant is abit too busy in terms of all the pouches he has on but I get the point of it conveying he is behind enemy lines.

Slinky wrote:Really nice set of marines there, lovely effect on the flamer nozzles

Thanks Slinky! I meant to add some blue to it as well but forgot all about it, glad they still look good!

gobert wrote:Cool marines, the blue tufts even match their shoulder pads! The Lt looks much more proper with a first born helmet too

Cheers Gobert! The biggest downside to me with the Primaris is the helmets are a bit naff. The mouth grille on the Mk 7s is the best bit.

Warboss_Waaazag wrote:Nice painting work. Good to see you keeping at it. Question, though. Where did you get the blue tufts you used for the alien grass on their bases?

Thanks Waazag! I got mine from my FLGS! I believe the company is called gamers grass?

Again, thanks all for the kind comments, boosts morale far better than a commissar.

So on with the updates:

Finished entry for the August painting comp. I'm not massively content with how they ended up, needed a bit more time spent on them but totally ran out of time at the end. I tried to make the Tyranid chitin on the shoulder look whitened and cracked as if it had been on there for a while and the sun had started to dry it out. I did like how the gold on their armour turned out though, think I've got the recipe for it sorted.

The first half of Thegn Idryc's Salvagers. The Norhymbre Cooperative finally have a Kill Team. Thanks to Jadenim for supplying me with these. Although Sod's Law in action as GW decides to release them not 2 weeks later

So we have got Vasqa with her BFG, then "Boom-Boom" Makaz showing off his guns, we have Eata carrying a load of guns, Ytharus blasting through the alien skies and of course Thegn Idryc who leads this mighty band to take whatever minerals belong to the kyn. I had a lot of fun last night snippin', cuttin' and convertin'.

You get bonus points for spotting the bitz and working out the references for those names! Some are canny easy, others a little trickier perhaps..

It's been a lush weekend out there in the UK, cheers for now!

Lovely work on the Lt and his cohort of flamers, really cool. The mk7 grill certainly adds to the classic character. I think my beef with Primaris is that they all have the same helmets pretty much. I’m glad they’re mixing the helmets up a bit now. No idea on the names’ origins though, unless Ytharus is Icarus?

Aye Vasquez is another! I meant to green stuff a little bandana.. clearly the inspiration for that model because that's the standard build and I didn't do any converting.

Thankee kindly everyone! Much appreciated

Keep forgetting to update this blog with all my updates. So let me fire some photos across.

"Boom-Boom" Makaz, Ytharus and Eata here painted up and ready to go in our Kill Team campaign.

Very pleased with how Ytharus turned out in particular.

Makaz is named after the great boxer Boom-Boom Mancini. The other two remaining, Eata and Idryc are both tough guesses. I would have been amazed if anyone got those two Both are historically famous Northumbrian Saxons who were very important to our global history. Eata was the bishop of Hexham who joined the Synod of Whitby which prescribed the Roman church as opposed to the Irish. This largely changed how early Christianity was formed in England.

Idryc is named after Ida - the first King of Bernicia which later became the Kingdom of Northumbria when the smaller kingdoms of Bernicia and Deira unionised. Ida was one of the first known Anglian kings who migrated to Briton in the early 6th century.

Anyway enough dull historical nonsense.. more painting to come.

Cheers all!

The kill team are developing nicely, itharus certainly looks the business. And you’re correct that there was very little chance of me getting the Northumbrian Saxons, despite spending many a holiday up there

Thanks Slinky! I like coming up with weird bases, I spent too much of my youth doing comparatively dull Warhammer Fantasy ones

Cheers! It could be a weird gem or it could be a weird fungus.. who knows? Both are of interest to space dwarves. Yes only the Kill Team has the jumppack so far, presumably it'll be a unit with the next mini update!

Thanks CB! Much appreciated coming from you as your colours are fantastic!

Little update from me as I've been dreadful on the mini front this past few weeks. The next 5 of the Kill Team ready to go.

I still have a few more things to add in, notably on the medic. I used the same idea from one of the standard squads that a tankard of beer works as a cure all for any Dwarf. For this one I wanted a keg on the back.. need to find something I can use for that through. Any thoughts? Does anyone know a good bit for that?

I had a lot of fun cutting up the legs of the sniper to make them crouch. Didn't slice my fingers either which is a big win. After I've painted them, I'm going to add a big rock or similar under the rifle so it gives them cover.

Anyway, cheers for now!

Great job on the sniper, that looks very promising.
As for keg ... Gw did produce clutter terrain and that included barrels afaik.. but that 'd be to big.

Maybee old whfb dwarfs would have something?
