Wonder Woman... Great film that was significantly lessened by the craptacular CGI battlefest at the end.

It's kind of a shame, because there's a much better film that ends with "I've got nothing to do with this, they did this to themselves".

There’s also film with a lead with, y’know, actual acting talent.

Unlike Gal Gadot. Who’s more wooden than a one legged Pirate’s Wooden Leg.

Absolutely bloody awful.

I mean, Rhea Ripley exists. You want an actual, talented and *incredibly hot* Amazon? Rhea Ripley is right there man. RIGHT THERE!

So Wonder Woman doesn't come from Themyscira, but Australia?

Hard disagree. Gal Gadot may not have been to your liking, but I thought she was great in the role. I also find it weird that you say they should have hired a real actor and then named a wrestler.

Acting in action movies requires a different kind of acting, anyway. It’s more important to be memorable than believable, since the movies themselves aren’t grounded anyway, and Gadot has an advantage there with her accent and ESL delivery.

Mrs. GG and I thought the Wonder Woman movies could have been better written but that Gal Gadot did a decent enough job. Neither of us found her acting to be wooden.

Well, it looks like they're recasting the DCU. So maybe you'll get your wish this time around.

Dropping Gal Gadot, when the first Wonder Woman film was such a bright star in the DC movie franchise does seem crazy.

As for an Australian WW - for a while (around 2008) Australian model/actress Megan Gale was in the frame for an early Justice League movie.

The show itself is great, particularly the second season.

Then….on a helluva cliffhanger? Cancelled.

You cannot leave us like that. It’s inhumane.
I wouldn't call that a bad ending, specifically because it wasn't an ending.

It didn't end, it just stopped. It's cancellation meant there was no resolution.

I don't know what M. Night was smoking for that, but I supposed I shouldn't be surprised that he of all people would fumble it at the 10 yard line.

I'd say the MCU through Endgame qualifies. Even the weaker films weren't awful, just bland. They really did an excellent job building up the universe and then feth it, let's have some time travel multiverse nonsense.

You missed the point. Presumably Megan Gale is like a lot of trained thespians and can deliver her lines sans accent (e.g., Hugh Jackman's portrayal of Wolverine does not include his Australian accent). Could Rhea Ripley do the same or would her portrayal of Wonder Woman be from Australia instead of Themyscira (i.e., have an Australian accent)?

So Wonder Woman doesn't come from Themyscira Israel, but Australia?

Fixed that for you

Well, I read something somewhere that she put on a different accent to be "Themyscira", but it still just sounds Israeli to me

Israeli is not a common (or very distinctive) accent. Most would have trouble placing it. However, an Australian accent screams "I'M FROM AUSTRALIA!".

If Diana were to have a readily identifiable accent, one would expect it to be Greek...

Modern Greek? I hear it sounds quite a bit different from Classical Greek.

Speaking of, which of the city states is Themiscyra closest to? At what point did their dialect separate from that city’s?

I’m just happy she doesn’t have a British accent.

And everyone knows that the Greeks just sound Irish *cheek*

They could be cheeky and give them Turkish accents. The region of Pontus was cited by Herodotus as the ancestral land of the Amazons and Themyscira was a Greek town located in the region that has long been associated with the Amazons.

Speaking of shows that just didn't end, there was a show on ABC in 2007 called Traveler.

Basic Plot: Three college kids try a prank at a museum. A bomb explodes, and two of the kids are now on the FBI most wanted list as suspects in the bombing. The third kid disappears off the face of the earth. He has no past, no record of him ever existing in any records. His hometown address is fictional.

This show got 8 episodes deep, then it just stopped. There was no announcement, it just stopped airing. Apparently there were more episodes fully ready, but no one has ever seen them.

At the same time there was a CBS Survivor rip-off reality show called Pirate Master. That got about 6 episodes in and stopped airing in the same fashion. At least CBS let people watch the rest of the season online.

For what it's worth, here's my nomination.

Peter F Hamilton's 'Night's Dawn' trilogy.

Three books, each around a thousand pages, of hard-edged sci-fi with horror overtones. It deals with an ever-growing outbreak of possession and how all the fancy high-tech wonders of 27th century humanity is powerless before it. Great world building, a huge cast of interesting characters and a really well built-up sense of growing despair as more and more of the galaxy falls before this unstoppable, inexorable doom.

Spoiler:
And then the hero finds a magic machine floating in space and basically makes a wish to fix everything instantly.

Argh.

Just remembered.

Star Trek Enterprise.

The series finale for this generally lackluster entry in the franchise is baffling on multiple levels. First because you can tell no one's heart was in it. The writers decided to kill a main character and make some prattle about it, but the situation where the character dies was practically a suicide with how little sense it makes.

And that's only the first dumb part.

The second is that they tied the entire episode into an episode of TNG, that both retcons the episodes and the character development of Will Riker in a profoundly sad and defeating way.

A sad little whimper of an episode for a show that... well it never had much potential imo it was a bad show but wow did they just throw their hands up and say feth it.

The ending is a little rushed, but by god the journey there is superb

Also in the only time I think I’ve ever seen it, civil engineers get a big shout out in this science fiction epic

All of Peter F Hamiltons stuff is amazing. Sonnie’s edge from the first season of love death and robots is based on one of his short stories, and I wish one of his series could get done like Arcane. I would be able to die very happily after watching g that.

Agreed - I adore his work, from the Greg Mandel stories onwards. The fact that the journey's so good in Night's Dawn makes the abrupt arrival even more frustrating. Ah well.
