Easy E wrote: I wonder if the Lost Kingdom is The Trench?
Looking at the DCEU wiki, the Kingdom of the Trench is not the lost kingdom.

The Lost Kingdom is the Atlantis we found along the way.
Seriously, I wouldn't be at all surprised if the plot involves revealing Atlantis to the surface world, joining the UN and all that sort of stuff. Amazon-land would be next and then there's a bunch of DC stories that can be told off the conflicts between the 'hidden lands' and the modern world. I know its come up a lot in the cartoons like Young Justice and I think JL Unlimited. I presume there are comics storylines as well, and it also plays into his dual heritage and would actually address the 'hey, don't pollute our oceans' angle.

Yeah, I also thought of Nekron when I thought of Necrons, lol.
But the real answer is almost certainly (spoiler ahead):
Spoiler:
Necrus is the lost kingdom. And maybe it's getting blended a bit with Nekron for this movie, as I don't remember Necrus being about undead and such, despite the name. But I could be wrong.
It looks like there is a big bad behind Black Manta after all.

Necron/Tomb king emperor empowering black manta with his black trident.
That was my impression as well, to give the weapon some history.

from article :
Arthur's wife Mera, played by Amber Heard, isn't much help, either. For reasons that we can only guess at, most of Heard's scenes have been edited out, so while she shows up every now and then in a skintight, low-cut bodysuit, she has so little to say and do that she might as well not be there at all. In essence, Heard is seen but not heard.
Oooof.

The positive part makes it sound like the first Aquaman, which I think got the same kinds of reviews.
Yeah...I haven't dug deeply into reviews and probably won't anyway, but what I've seen makes it sound exactly like the first film. Big, colorful and dumb with bad jokes and a little bit of heart. That's fine. It's an Aquaman movie starring Jason Momoa, for crissakes. There's a ceiling there on what the movie can really even be.
I think the biggest issue this movie faces is just that the original kind of satisfied all their was here. This just feels like more of the original and while I really enjoyed it, nothing I've seen for this feels like its bringing anything to the table that wasn't in the first.

I haven't read the review but the headline at AV Club seems to be positive.
Aquaman And The Lost Kingdom review: A farewell with a focus on fun: Jason Momoa and James Wan swing for the fences in a popcorn movie spectacle that signals the end of the DCEU

I hate to be the "AKTUALLY.." guy, but as a DC fan (and a big nerd) I have a better knowledge than the average movie goer. Note I'm not an Aquaman (Comics) fan per se- but the movie universe is both condensed and taken from several sources. For one, the whole "Seven Kingdoms" was kind of a cop-out to match up with the 7 seas. In the comics, there were several descendants of original Atlantis (which was magic, but also had high tech): The Atlanteans, who were as we see them in the movies- people who breathe water. Only the nobles could also breathe air- but original 60's Aquaman did have to wear a "water helmet" several times.
Then there were the Tritonians, who were mermaids... Yeah, it was sort of hokey, but DC had established them as a thing in other comics- like Superman's "Fish wife", Lori Lemaris.
Last were the Trench, who were xenophobs who basically said eff you to Atlantis, and went into the trench and became Deep Ones, basically.
Mera's actually from another dimension, where Atlanteans can manipulate water. Consequently in the comics, Black manta somehow either goes to this dimension or finds a woman from there and this is how we got the new gay black Aqua Lad.
Okay- enough soapbox time. I enjoyed the first one.. even as I wondered WHY the crab people lived in a lava land- were they waiting for a shipment of butter to spill on them? -And I'm glad Jason Momoa stepped up and told the studio execs that No, they will not cancel Amber Heard- she is an integral character and they can't just write out her part because of that whole trial situation. I'd heard the "compromise" was she's only in the movie, like, 10 minutes- but could be the last job for her for a while..

Variety is saying that this may not be Jason Momoa’s last Aquaman film if The Lost Kingdom does well at the box office.

Saw it. If you enjoyed the first one, you’ll probably enjoy this one.
The script is basically on the same level, maybe slightly better. That is, it’s dumb fun done right. The spectacle is there, building on the parts people really responded to in the first one. The action is …well it’s about what you expect. The acting is better, not least because they gave Amber Heard as much screen time in this one as Randall park had in the first and Randall Park as much screen time as Amber Heard had in the first. Also, Aquaman and Orm have far better screen chemistry than Aquaman and Amber Heard. The undead bad guy is barely in it at the end, which is good because Jeremy Jahns nailed it with “Dollar Store Nagash”.
If you saw the first one and wanted more of that, this one delivers exactly that.
Automatically Appended Next Post: My wife described it as not being too heavy or grim. “People just want to have fun at the movies, and that’s what this is.”
