Do they have to shave to wear helmets? They they just tuck their beards into their breast plates?

Or, as I suspect, are the absurd beards really just clip on hair extensions?

Neither; the ones still wearing helmets are young’ns who have yet to grow such magnificent whiskers and thus still need the extra protection of the helmet.

While the tournament players would argue that there are already too many factions to balance so adding more is impossible to do for GW (but don't have a problem with a totally new faction as long as it beats everyone else at events)

The supplements are harder to balance in reality.

It gives them a chance to have different faction rules, like Cabal of Sorcerers, or to let certain units do different things entirely (like a Maulerfiend behaving differently in each book). Also, you don't have to tell each Legion what units they can't take - the list for the Thousand Sons would be huge...

Thing is I don't see these being a problem if they didn't want it to be. Previously supplements just said to refer back to the main codex for certain unit entires, providing positive access (rather than a list they can't take). And the only reason a supplement can't have a different army rules is because GW says so, nothing to stop them changing their mind.

One would think that a Marine that's too young to have a proper beard would be too inexperienced to be a Veteran/Terminator.

It's not that a young bloodclaw can't grow a decent beard (pretty sure I had a good one at 17), it's just improper to do so.

Wolf Guard are recruited for exceptional combat prowess and valour, not age. Ragnar himself became part of the Wolf Guard right out of the Blood Claws for example.

Hiding from Florida-Man.

Seems like your beard would catch in all sorts of nooks and crannies on Space Marine armour... but I guess it's better than trying to shove it all under your helmet.

Space Wolves use their beards the same way ancient Greeks used long hair - as additional helmet padding.

That's why they have the lowest number of head injuries recorded amongst all First Founding chapters. Genetors still somehow baffled.

GW have missed a trick - now that Tacticus helmets are modular to the point of absurdity - of having Space Wolves with just the faceplate missing so that their beards can flop out.

With all the talk about what units got dropped, I'm a bit surprised no one has mentioned generic Wolf Guard. Used to be a pretty fun unit

Now you get the totally-not-Bladeguard-with-totally-not-Fenrisian-Wolves. They're unique because they have power weapons and storm shields beards.

The only units that I think TS would be able to take for lore reasons would be the Venomcrawler and Master of Possessions, and taking the MoP might be redundant since the Infernal Master is almost the same thing. The Dark Commune, Torments and Accursed Cultists could also be put in there, but I think that GW will be giving TS their own cultists. I actually made a list of what CSM units that I think that Thousand Sons, Death Guard, World Eaters and Emperor's Children should be able to take:

World Eaters:
Chaos Lord
Chaos Lord in Terminator Armor
Chaos Lord with Jump Pack
Warpsmith
Dark Apostle (if no bespoke priest unit)
Chaos Vindicator
Havocs (if no bespoke heavy weapons unit)
Raptors/Warp Talons (if no bespoke flying unit)
Obliterators
Venomcrawler
Lord Discordant
Bikers (if no bespoke mounted unit, or existing beside Skullcrushers)

Thousand Sons:
Master of Possession (possibly redundant)
Dark Commune (if no similar bespoke unit)
Torments/Accursed Cultists (if no similar bespoke cultists)
Venomcrawler

Death Guard:
Warpsmith (if no similar bespoke unit)
Master of Executions
Maulerfiend/Forgefiend
Havocs (if no bespoke heavy weapons unit)
Chaos Vindicator
Possessed (taken out of Legends, and if no similar bespoke unit)
Master of Possession (if no similar bespoke unit)
Obliterators
Venomcrawler
Heldrake

Emperor’s Children:
Chaos Lord (possibly redundant due to Lord Exultant)
Chaos Lord/Sorcerer in Terminator Armor
Chaos Lord with Jump Pack
Chosen (if no similar bespoke unit)
Master of Executions
Warpsmith
Lord Discordant
Chaos Vindicator
Chaos Predator
Forgefiend
Defiler
Havocs (if no bespoke heavy weapons unit)
Chaos Cultists (if no similar bespoke unit)
Cultist Firebrand (if no similar bespoke unit)
Master of Possession (if no similar bespoke unit)
Dark Commune (if no similar bespoke unit)
Accursed Cultists/Torments (if no similar bespoke unit)
Possessed (possibly redundant due to Flawless Blades)
Obliterators
Venomcrawler
Dark Apostle (if no bespoke priest unit)
Bikers (if no bespoke mounted unit)
Raptors/Warp Talons

All of the these factions have access to Predators except for Emperor's Children. The units that I posted here are units that these armies don't have access to that I think that they should. Also, I forgot to add Defilers and Forgefiends to the EC list. Forgefiends being absent from the current roster makes absolutely no sense.

Element seems to reserve the bulk of these sorts of boxes for in-store these days for some reason. Still a load at weyland and other places though.

Its not lasted around 20 minutes on GW UK.

iirc 300 is a top number for independant website (ranges from 5 for small sites, 50-75 midsize, 300 upper limit). That's my impression from years back when I more actively chased these boxes, going from sites with realtime stock numbers. This one does seem popular, my usual small place with earlier listing did the reduced discount maneuvre and still sold them, glad to see others didn't try that.

I have to say I really like what I've seen so far. GW seem to have shown some restraint in terms of the entire wolf theme and the character sculpts are aces in my book. Looking forward to what they are getting down the line.

Honestly I think we od see most 3rd party stores holding stock back on these boxes. I think its in part both a means to help serve their physical local customers and also a means to spread out the sales on things that sell really well to try and counter scalpers.

Boxes going into scalper hands hurts everyone because it means the actual income of customers buying things is getting hived off. Sure the store sells their copies out to the scalper but then the store will see reduced sales eventually because the scalper is taking more of the actual customer money.

So spreading things out helps

I know Wayland has imposed a lot more "1 per customer" which I think also helps defeat scalpers but also the "I'm going to get 3 -4 of these boxes and totally build everything honest really!" gamers
Which isn't bad, but it also mean fewer individuals can get a box so limiting helps spread the stock out to more people
