I was excited for the new K47 but it went over like a fart in church; most of us liked the idea of mostly using our bolt action armies with a smattering of "weird" tech, and they changed it in true ex-GW style to push the new stuff and nerf using mostly Bolt Action stuff.

Completely killed interest in it; my store is still sitting on product from the first wave.

Its very difficult to get an overall impression of how well a game is doing from anecdotal evidence. I've seen the exact opposite - lots of gaming groups & SM getting very excited about the game, the setting, the miniatures and the fact that Warlord seems to be pushing some serious resources behind it (at least, this is the impression I have got from listening to podcasts on the topic).
The fact that you can use a BA army means the buy-in is very easy for that group - I don't collect BA but my gaming group and I are doing a mix of BA and K47 units. My own impression is thats expensive for a Warlord game, vastly cheaper than the last game I was collecting for (Heresy). Although I appreciate it is going to be expensive for those coming from just a historicals background.

Stores will generally have some stock that they are 'sitting on', as otherwise they can't sell any more? GW have spun the FOMO/limited edition sets but its very difficult for other companies, especially those 5% the size of them, to operate in that manner (I also think its pretty crappy/stressful as a customer of those products).

Surely if that's most of your community, you can either houserule, gentleman's agreement or just play with one another using minimal Weird War tech?

Besides, it sounds like if your store just wanted to be using mostly Bolt Action armies, that K47 stock would be gathering dust anyway.

I'd say K47 is pretty popular in my area and folk have been wondering about tournaments being set up eventually.

I was entirely willing to get the new edition (and I still might) if there was interest but that was roughly my group's response as well.

We haven't played the new version, so maybe the Rift Dice are the amazing mechanic we didn't know we needed and perhaps the boost to weird units really is balanced vs non-weird.

However, -and it's a minor thing- something about having to drop another 30 bucks (on top of the rulebook) on another set of special dice to enable what looked like a sidelining of non-weird units (we all have alot of those as well), just seemed to turn folks off. Note that this is a group of whom over half of them already have significant investment in WWW2 armies and played the previous version of K47, so you'd think this would be a shoe-in. Yet, WWW2 is a sideline for us and the general feeling seemed to be a preference to just use the OPR rules that most of us have become so fond of.

All that said, I do wish Warlord the best as they clearly are giving the full court press to K47 in terms of quality releases and support. Even if some of their methods and pricing are reminiscent of GW, this is still a game that is significantly more affordable than 40k and not at all derivative.

Additional question.

What's the difference between Field Manual and Rulebook?

Do you need the Rulebook if you have the Field Manual?

You do not have to use or purchase special rift dice, just use standard D6.

The field manual has just enough information for you to play the contents of the Introductory Set. There are no actual rules in it, just like everyone hits on 4s, US save on 6+, Axis save on a 5+, cover saves are introduced but that is as cruncchy as it gets.

Basically it's perfect for people completely new to miniature gaming. If they had pre-coloured single piece/snap fit minis it would be a solid 10/10 starter product.

I'm really encouraged that Warlord are committing to the background writing for the game; Gav Thorpe & William King amongst others. I don't know if any of those guys helped write the background in Festung Europa? (I am still waiting for my FLGS to get the copy of that).

I'm putting some time aside this week to catch up on the K47 background. Hoping for lots of body horror and Cthulu-Mythos-adjacent shenanagans.

We know you love Konflikt '47... we know you love Mystery Boxes... so there's only one logical conclusion: Konflikt '47 Mystery Boxes!

Packed with amazing value, each box contains a selection of miniatures and gaming accessories for a single faction, and represent a huge saving over buying the contents individually. Of course, you won't know which faction you've got until you open the box - but that's where the mystery lies! Some lucky recipients will also find the mighty Molot amongst their Soviet selection.

Mystery Boxes are always incredibly popular, so these will be available for one week only. Don't miss out!

https://bit.ly/4wqchB5

Heroes of the Soviet Bloc, rejoice! The mighty Molot walks at the forefront of the glorious People's Conquest!

While we work on the plastic Molot kit, due out towards the end of this year, we've got a quantity of resin kits left over from the original starter army production. Rather than recycle them (a fate worse than death!), we're making them available for individual purchase. If you can't wait to get your hands on more Molots - now's your chance!

In addition, everyone who purchases a resin Molot will receive a voucher towards the cost of the plastic kit when it comes out - we'll send these out closer to the launch.

Quantities are strictly limited, so don't miss out if your Soviet Bloc force needs more walker support!

£60 seems a bit steep for the Molot - all the other 'Medium Walkers' are £41.50.

I think the Molot is the first walker they've made that I would buy. But I'm not buying it at $96. Konflikt 47 has just been too rich for my blood.

That is quite expensive. How big is the thing does anyone know?

Also see there are some loot boxes but at £125! They are really trying to go for the GW crowd I think with that price I'm not sure anyone else is likely to blind buy & spend that much money.

I was on the fence on getting one- I was gifted a couple of the kits from the range now and have really liked them (for use in a small Judge Dredd side project I'm doing, I'm using a couple of K47 & bolt action kits for a 'not' WW2/fallout flavoured campaign for the Dredd universe set in Brit Cit) but honestly warlord games have a knack for cancelling games I like and I feel they spent so much time making it clear that Paul Sawyer was the 'sci-fi and weird stuff guy' and that now he is gone they would be historical only, only to bring this out and put so much energy into K47.

I can't help feel like this could be another 2 year and done due to pre existing license agreements only. So I just can't bring myself to drop huge money on a game that looks fantastic, but could very well be gone in before I've finished unboxing everything.

I even brought in to hail Caesar on the strength of how good of a service I'd been getting from them from ordering their own version of the Judge Dredd game, then a few weeks later they announced dropping the Dredd license. Whilst I don't see the epic games going any time soon, by not releasing the last bits for Dredd that had been shown of for months, it left me deflated and I've not even touched the historical boxes since.

I just can't bring myself to get back into any WG games going forward.

on the forum. Obviously

The gacha model only works if there's pretty girls involved. So unless the lootbox has an anthropomorphic tsundere Wotan I'm not sure this scheme is going to be that successful.

Oi oi, speak for yourself, I quite like my gacha containing less waifu and more robots!

Jokes aside, it's a weird move, especially for a game that's not all that old yet and looking at the eye watering prices they charge for small plastic-resin hybrid kits, makes me wonder just how much value there is actually in there.

They're working on rotating out the SioCast stuff with HIPs kits, especially after the issues they had with the Ursus SioCasts with casting quality wise(hence why the Russian Starter was canceled during the pre-order period). A lot of them are stop gaps until they can get the plastics into the release schedule.

I understand the reluctance, but it is worth noting that K47 is not a license. I'm pretty sure Warlord bought the IP for K47 entirely from Clockwork Goblin 4 years ago.

K47 could still go the way of Antares if it doesn't sell will, but it's done well enough for a second edition and does seem to really have legs.

It has already surpassed Antares by a factor of 500..

From what I have read they now have the rights to the game. If the game eventually runs out of steam it won't be because of licensing issues.

They're 2 part - bodies & weapon. The only issue I've had is having to straighten some of the barrels.

"They told me that you had gone totally insane, and that your methods were unsound."

I really would like to jump in and buy a K47 Mystery Box, but as I have decided to buy a ginormous Lego set, and my house is so out of space I have a gaming shed, I really can't justify throwing money at every fun sounding game product that floats by. Also $200 for $320 in value, but that's like The US Recon Force and one box of Fireflies. Nineteen total models. It's a shame they couldn't keep their costs somewhat affordable, I know gamers like to cite how everything has become super expensive for game companies, and global trade is disrupted, and yadda yadda yadda, but contrary to what their implication is, all that doesn't make money shoot of their customers' butts so they can pay more, it just means those game companies go out of business.
