How damaging is the lasgun against a ork?

Not enough. WAAAAGH!

How many shots?

Weeellll, presuming it hits, it will kill an ork boy just under 1 in three times. Does that answer your question?

A lasgun gets 2 shots if it is in 12 inches, 1 shot if the target is 12 to 24 inches away. Hits on 4, wounds on 5, and allows the ork its 6+ armour save.

In the big red rulebook theres a bit where a lasgun hits an ork in the chest and just makes him angry(er)
but there are other orks that get head-shot and die.

I presume you mean 'in the fluff' rather than 'in the game rules'.

Obviously there's lots of divergence between different authors and books, but generally Orks are seen to shrug off lasgun hits unless they are particularly good shots.

So we generally see orks get hit in the arm (and maybe drop their weapon), but ignore it and keep fighting, or just shrug it off. Occasionally someone will shoot an ork in the face, though, or fire a full clip, or fire from very close range, and it will topple over dead.

Well a lasgun is said to blow a humans arm clean off. What its affect on a much tougher ork would be I cant say, but I presume the force of the hit would make an ork stagger and would leave a nasty if not fatal burn. It also depends on how tough the ork in question is. e.g a warboss would shrug off lasgun shots very easily, where as a regular boy would be killed far more easily.

I don't know, read any fiction about orks fighting IG and you'll see that lasguns do next to nil damage if they're either too far, not hit in the head.

In rebel winter they describe the las bolt as not having a lot of physical force behind itdoesn't even stagger an ork. Also, orks are amazing when it comes to healing, in the fluff a mad dok can sow any arm to an ork boy and it'll just grow back. Orks also have a nasty habit of coming back to life in many IG vs Ork novels, unless they are beheaded or burned to a crisp.

Well iff a lasgun carrys around 200 rounds per clip then i guess around 5-15 shots to kill that big ol' ork boy depending on the shots charge, range, and impact point.
maybe less on a fully charged shot.
Hypotheticly of course.

The way the fluff is written (and indeed the rulz) a Lasgun has the equivelent effect of an assult rifle (anything up to say 7.62mm) and an ork would be the equivelent of a mid+ size bear (on mass/temprement).

As others have said slot 'im in the eye/brain box and it'll probably go down, a round in a fleshy bit will hurt it but also enrage it as well and he'll keep coming.

If you are unsure just use an Autocannon. Autocannon[tm] for when you absolutely, possitively have kill every mutha-fether on the battlefield!

Autocannons? Phht. Footsloggers and their little toys. Tanks and battlecannons are the way to go. There are no Ork related problems that a well placed batlecannon shot won´t solve.

In 15 hours lasguns appear to do quite well against orks when torso/head shots are made. Ork casualties do have a nasty habit of regenerating unless the head is cut off soon after however.

Well in the Gaunt's Ghosts novels, lasguns seem pretty devastating. Blowing out a dude's chest.
Playing Dark Heresy, a lasgun is a pretty sweet weapon. Takes a few shots to kill an ork boy though...
