Subject: Automatically appended next post - how long must I wait to avoid?

I'm not normally worried about this, but when I've started a thread asking comment on a homebrewed unit (where I'm obviously posting a lot), I sometimes post a rewrite only to find it get automatically appended to my previous post -- which means people subscribing to the thread don't get an update email or see a "latest unread" tag next to the thread, which means they don't check in and give me the feedback I'm seeking.
So how long do I need to wait between posts to avoid the second automatically appending to the first? (Assuming no-one's posted in between, of course).
Thanks...

I think it's 24 hours between posts. Or immediately if you attach a picture to the post.
I think.
Don't quote me on it though.

Remember you can edit the "Appended..." message out of your posts.

Yeah, I'm not worried about the "appended" notation itself, I'm worried that no one following the thread will get any notification I've posted new material I'm seeking their feedback on. As I understand it, when a post gets "automatically appended," the system doesn't count it as a new post, so no email goes out to people subscribing to the thread and it doesn't show up with a "first unread" tag in the forum.

24 hours? Really? I think its more like 12 or less. Also making a post with an image in it will still be appended if you're within the time constraint.

Some forums might have a shorter time period, and others simply don't automatically append at all, but 24 hours is the standard.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.
