Since this has got some people talking about how recently they should have played for their opinions to be relevant to GW, it seems prudent to try and get some stats about the Dakka player base.

I've clarified that it needs to be a current edition game, as this is from the context of feeding back on their latest ruleset and it seems a good control for it. Of course I mean current edition game as in the edition at the date the game was played, i.e. 2 > 5 years may be 7/8th ed depending where the exact date falls.

I'd also hasten to add that for me personally, TTS counts in this instance. It's still using the rules of the game albeit in a digital environment.

2 days ago. I should point out however that this was in fact my first game of 9th edition. Previous game before that was an 8th ed game about a month before the world went all to pot.

It is, but I wanted to draw a line to prevent being too granular. Using the GW survey as a basis the key split seemed to be the 2+ year window.

Worth adding a under 3 months and 3-6?

It's wild it's been more than two years since the Loyalist favouritism encyclopedia collection drove me out.

And in this era of incredible turnover it's crazy it's been 4 years since the current CSM book came out (I don't consider the lazy reprint a new book)

I mean I know you want to use this data to discredit people who haven't played recently and make their opinions worth less, but I haven't played since the end of 5e, sometime around 2012 I reckon?

I'm pretty interested in playing all the same, and I keep an eye on how things are going. But there's a fair few things that are off putting to me about current 40K so I don't really feel like trying to teach people how to play it when GDF is a lot less effort and it's right there.

You've expressed the opinion that people who comment on the game but don't currently play it are a bunch of salty whiners. I'm not predisposed to believe you when you say you're not gathering this evidence to back up your arguments in that arena, sorry.

Thank you for your input all the same, I do genuinely have enough of a life to not want to build a poll on dakka to win a pointless argument in a news and rumours forum however though, don't worry.

The edition has to be current? And I take it you mean the main game? That’s a lot different than asking when the last time we played a GW game, or a game with Warhammer minis, or even a game with new Warhammer minis.

Been playing a couple of games a month since the beginning of the year.

Late 2019, so 8th edition. I live with someone who's very covid vulnerable so I haven't really been doing in-person gaming (or indeed any non-essential trips out of the house).

Yeah. Elites slots are cramped in 9th so I take one of the platoon leaders as a Company Commander.

In 4th I run him as a regular Platoon Commander (Junior Officer) but I give him the Honorifica Imperialis so he has the statlines of a Heroic Senior Officer

So it kinda works out.

I'm curious following the 40k survey which asks a similar question but only cares if it's within 2 years as they seem to only want 9th ed based results.

Would've been last week (Sat), but alas, RL decided I needed to be doing other stuff...

When did the new necron codex come out? Because then. I played a game with it to see if it was as bland and book keepy as it looked and it was.

October 2020 I think? Inclined to agree, in the few times I used it I forgot the protocols more than I used them, never mind got use from them.

Say, next time you do that would you mind putting together a battle report for those two systems? I've been wanting to do that myself for a while but every time I play 5E I tend to play my old school ork models that are now deleted from the game.

Yesterday, got slapped by some Grey Knights!

It's been about a month for me, but it was because I was too busy getting ready to get married at the end of October lol. Going to a two day team tournament in a couple of weeks, so I have to get some practice in.

Haven't played since mid-to-late 7th ed. Been following the game since 9th ed dropped though and have been itching to play again, hoping to get my first game of 9th this Monday. I have gotten in 2 games of 3rd ed AOS in the meantime at least.

I am absolutely atrocious at documenting games though unless I do so only narratively (which is super difficult in 9th)

Got in three games over the summer, but retreated back into my cave when the Delta wave hit.

The first game was fun, but only because it was my first game of 9th. The fun rapidly wore off for games two and three. I feel like I don't need to play anymore 9th because there's literally nothing different to try. The missions are so one dimensional. Sad.

Crusade, but then it kind of trailed off.
