Hello everybody! ("Hi, Dr. Nick!")
Long time lurker Niilo Timantti here, I finally got around to registering into the great, great miniatures wargaming community that is Dakka Dakka.
"It's about time I joined...", I thought today as me and my two wargaming buddies were sitting in my kitchen, drinking coffee and painting our respective armies.
About time, indeed, as I'm the one who practically dragged my friends into the hobby (well, with all the cool miniatures around nowadays, I didn't really have to drag 'em now did I?) and they've already registered to Dakka some time ago.
So, as this is my first post, I guess I'll tell a bit about myself and how I got into the hobby, as if anyone's interested
I'm a 1982 vintage, sound engineer living and working in Helsinki, Finland. Been driving my better half nuts with
40k orks lying around and about our kitchen since September 6, 2008
But my history with orks goes beyond
AOBR, into the dark ages that was the late 1990's when Gorkamorka came out. Me and a friend from school stumbled onto Gorkamorka on the net and after some time obsessing over it we ordered a starter box by mail which we split in two. For some reason we never got around to playing the game though
But, I never got rid of the miniatures. And later, much later, when I had moved to Helsinki I noticed there was a local Games Workshop store in the city center. I then remembered my old Gorkamorka miniatures and started to wonder if anyone still played
GM. So one day I walked in the store to ask about
GM only to find myself trying out a game of
40k with a member of the staff and absolutely loving the action. As it happened, the release of Assault on Black Reach was around the corner and the staff asked if I wanted to reserve a copy.
I didn't reserve a copy right there and then, but it didn't take too long for me to get myself hyped about orks and going back to the
GW store to reserve my copy.
So, from then on I've been collecting all things orky.
"But wait, your thread's subject says
world's slowest painter, what's up with that?"
Well, the fact is that I started the hobby some 18 months ago and to this day I have managed to paint only:
9 Slugga boyz
3 Nobz
and 4 Gretchin
Ok, so obviously I have also been doing something else than painting in my spare time but this is just ridiculous
So, today, the thought "It's about time I joined..." was quickly followed by "...and start a project log so that I'd keep a record of what I am doing and when it takes too long for me to paint stuff people would tell me to stop loitering and get back to painting my orks."
If you've read this far, I thank you, and I hope you'll have me among you as a fellow Dakkaite
- Niilo Timantti, over and out, 'cause it's 2:21AM in Helsinki and
way past my bedtime
