Someone mentioned the Synapse-free Tyranids. I almost did that one back with Cityfight (when you could deploy through the sewers).

6 squads of 12 Genestealers

Broodlord and Retinue of Genestealers

Lictors and Deathleaper.

The only things 'deployed' on the board were the lictors, and they were hidden.

I've been playing some "silly" games with a friend recently. We've each been making 1000 point lists that are somewhat to extremely unconventional and testing out our creations. I'd just like to hear some other ideas for building fun and wacky lists - for any army. Bonus points for Tau, Nids, or Marines (my armies ).

Just to give you an idea, some of the things we've tried:

Close Combat Tau: Aun'Shi (the close combat Ethereal). Fire Warriors with EMP grenades. Crisis Suits with Flamers, FnP, and Fleet. Large blobs of Kroot Hounds. The entire Tau army wants to rush forward and charge.

125 point Guard: Every single unit in his army was 125 points. 125 point Veterans in a 125 point Chimera next to a 125 point unit of Sentinels...

Medium base only Tyranids: No monstrous creatures and no little bugs. Only Tyranid warriors, Hive Guard, Lictors, Zoanthropes, etc.

Other ideas?

Scope out my blog. You might find it to be exactly what you're looking for. here is an example:

Sisters of Battle

Not wacky enough. I had a 2k game today with Sisters/Inq Allies. Due to forgetting some of my models I improvised some things and ended up running a punchy Sisters army with 1 Battle Conclave, 2 Punchy units of Henchmen (the three of them had combinations of Priests, Crusaders, Arco-Flagellants, and Death Cult Assassins), and a unit of Repentia. Mixed into this was Celestine and a unit of Seraphim, Jacobus (he had the Battle Conclave), a Hereticus Inquisitor, 2 BSS, 3 Sisters Rhinos, 2 Inq Rhinos, and 3 Exorcists. Throw some upgrades onto it all to fill out to 2 and serve.

It was silly and surprisingly fun, though it could have been more optimized and if I do that again some tweaks will definitely be in order.

All tau drone army. Unbound (of course). Drone teams, sniper drones, heavy gun drones, and drone turrets.

For a fun build, mobile tau. Farsight (so crisis as troops), or fire warriors with pulse carbines and devilfish. XV9s and pirahnas galore. It's what my actual army is (it's not half bad either).

Pretty much anything with vespids, although some tactics might find them useful.

Eldar, all skimmer/jetbike army.

Nice to hear it's still good - i wasn't aware of said inquisitor 'dex 'till now.

i started buying jokaero to do exactly that but the cost was fantastic!

i also toyed with buying two imperial guard armies - one tallarn 'taliban' force (lots of those missile launcher teams and toyota hilux toys as chimeras) and the other a combined mordian iron guard, steel legion and DKoK 'nazi' force (mordians as the ss elites all others as grunts).

highly politically incorrect but my god, how hard i would laugh if i saw someone actually with one of those at a GW store!

Ork or Chaos bikers with Dark Angel or White Scar "allies"

Ork/Chaos all start on the board at the edge of your deployment zone, and only move towards the enemy table edge.

Dark Angel/White Scars all start in reserve, and chase after the Orks.

Bonus points if DA are modeled as Raven Wing "on foot".

I've been wanting to try a true grot army using Ork rules, not weedy Guard rules like some rebel grotz armies. Troops would be a flood of grotz. Fast Attack would be buggies converted to be driven by grotz (maybe even as some sort of grot tanks or armored cars). Heavy Support would be the toughest because I would want both lots of Mek Gunz and lots if Kans, so I would need to either take two or three detachments or go Unbound.

It would be great fun to play and if you ever won a game, you could tease your opponent mercilessly about losing to GROTZ!

FW has some Grots stuff that might help fill that in. And if you can find the Grot Bot model there's a War Grotboss for you.

Run them with a few Tzeentch Daemon allies and summon only Screamers. Drown your foe in manta rays.

Honestly the range isn't quite big enough for there to be silly ways to run Thousand Sons.
