Nice, subdued colours, and the blue gems add a hint of brightness that makes a really good contrast. Good to see a deviation away from the neon orange fire dragons that is executed well.

They look cool, I think you should highlight the armour and the black spots.

Thats lovely work. The red and the blue are really well done. My only critricism is that the helmets look a little unfinished. THe flat black is crying out for some more decoration (runes or something).

Please excuse any spelling errors. I use a tablet frequently and software keyboards are a pain!

By black spots do you mean the helmet and gun? if so, they are highlighted but my camera does a terrible job of showing them. As for the armor It is not highlighted because of the way i painted it. The models are scorched brown with a heavy dry brushing of blood red. The brown acts as the shadows and the red is brushed on so that the raised edges have the highest concentration of pigment and are therefore brighter. But my camera does a terrible job of picking the gradation between colors. I decided not to do actual highlights because the sudden change between colors would have been to drastic and i think it looks better in person as compared to regular edge highlighting

As for the helmets being bland, I could not think of what else to do with them

here is a clearer picture of the style i used

Always great to see some well painted Eldar. Nice.

Only thing I can say is careful with drybrush. Its quick and effective but does give off a "messy" look. Still, it depends how much time you want to spend on a mini. Great work.

Currently collecting and painting Eldar from W40k.

Yeah i have had that problem I try not over drybrush any single model. I usually just use it as a guide for shadowing and highlighting.

Oh I see, well the way you did it is really well done, I hate when the camera ruins your paintjob as well.

I really like the black helmet and weapons, but I strongly suggest that you paint the 'crest' on the top of the helmet, because right now it just looks wrong to me. Mainly because there is a clear divide on the model between the helmet and the crest, so it just LOOKS like they should not be the same color as the helmet.

Or maybe if the gems on the crest area were painted blue as well, or you did a better job of highlighting the black area or something...I like the overall color scheme but the black crest just doesn't do it for me personally.

This.

I would paint the crest in the same muted red as the armor and then mimic the blue gems on the crest as on the rest of them model.

Nice to see someone taking the advice given here and using it to such good effect. Before I got to the later pictures I felt the same as the others about the plain crest but with what you've done now the only niggling issue is gone. Good work!

Painting the gems on the helmets made a big difference. I sympathize with this time consuming process. Once you do one unit this way, the theme will extend to other units and it can become VERY time consuming.

Good work and thanks for sharing.

No earth shattering, thought provoking quote. I'm just someone who was introduced to 40K in the late 80's and it's become a lifelong hobby.

Very well painted and I love the gem's, I'm just not too keen on the overall darkness of the colours though. Thats just me though, good job.
