I assume it's like Index, which is indices, but indexes is user correctly, too:

"OED gives both indexes and indices as the plural, without comment*."
"Indices is preferred in maths and physics, usual in other senses except as"

A codex is a book, just as is an index.

I prefer to say Codices, but write Codexes. Go figure.

Same, I always say codices, but when typing I just go with whatever is easier

I always thought Codices was proper but Codexes sounded better. Perhaps there is an argument for Codexes being valid.

I gotta agree with webster on this one. Going with codices, it just sounds smoother.

Codexes and codices are both recognised plurals of codex, similar to cactuses and cactii being recognised plurals of cactus.

Mandorallen turned back toward the insolently sneering baron. 'My Lord,' The great knight said distantly, 'I find thy face apelike and thy form misshapen. Thy beard, moreover, is an offence against decency, resembling more closely the scabrous fur which doth decorate the hinder portion of a mongrel dog than a proper adornment for a human face. Is it possibly that thy mother, seized by some wild lechery, did dally at some time past with a randy goat?' - Mimbrate Knight Protector Mandorallen.

I believe there's a difference between how American English and English* treats the correct plural. If I'm not mistaken, English is more accepting of different Latin plurals while American English prefer Codexes.

* I refuse to see British English as anything but the proper standard form of English

I really need to stay away from the 40K forums.

I'll stick with both, it seems. It's not going to be one or the other, so both are OK.

Well, my language descends from Latin and we use "códice" for singular and "códices" for plurals.

If codex is a Latin word, we should be using the Latin plural.
Or, is that a bit pretentious?

it's Codices, technically.

however, since English is a living Language and most people around the world who speak it speak the American version, Codexs(no e after the x) will become the proper version within a century or so.

in fact, any attempt to do more then fix a few rudimentary rules for any language is pointless as the language will be constantly changing.

Codices.

Hey, it's the correct way of spelling/saying it.

Even though, I do like codexes better. Oh well!

In this case codex is a word invented by GW, using Gothic (which is like pseudo-Latin). It just so happens that codex is also a real Latin word. Codicies is the plural of codex when talking in Latin, but since this is technically a GW invention I'm going with codexes (which I think is how GW themselves refer to it in the plural).

GW uses both intermittently.

Well then I guess you can pick whatever sounds cooler :p

I used to say codicies, maybe because I took Latin, but it seems I was fooled into thinking codexes was the official GW stance.

Well codexes sounds more unique so that's what I'm sticking with.

Woops I just realized I have accidentally spelled codice as codicies everytime, I guess that's because that's how I phonetically imagine it in my head.

Reminds me: The correct plural of High Elf Codex is High Elf army books

Codices is the plural for people who are aware that Codex is a Latin word.
Codexes is the plural for people who have no idea about its origin and/or don't give a damn

And while we are at it:
It is Rogue Trader (Rouge traders trade cosmetics only).
It is Death Korps of Krieg (pronounced creek, not Kreig pronounced crike).
It is Wiener Dogs not Weiner Dogs (sorry Frazzled )

I go with Codices most of the time (if I'm actually thinking while I speak) though sometimes I let out a "codexes" every once in awhile.

Wait, what?

Did they also invent "Carnifex," which just happens to also be a real Latin word?

I guess technically. In universe Carnifex is a Gothic word right? I mean I could totally be wrong, but that's how I view langauge in work of fiction. Gothic just happens to sound a whole lot like Latin.
