Mission: Kill Points
Deployment: Spearhead
I win the roll for first turn and we're off!
Deployment
I deploy in my typical clustered up lump on the 12" mark. He deploys... well, all over. Heres a pic:
One unit of kroot infiltrate in the upper right, his stealth suits in the bottom left. He rolls to seize and fails; off we go! Oh, I rolled +1
str for my drugs as well
Dark Eldar Turn 1
I turbo up all my raiders in a straight line. My 3 ravs shuffle to shoot his stealth suits. My venoms shuffle to shoot his stuff.
I start out blasting 2 pathfinders from the middle group; they pass
ld. I then take aim with my first ravager and learn my first mistake... Stealth Suits have a modified night fight when targeting them!

Of course, ALL 3 ravs can only see that unit and none of them make the check even with rerolls. My last venom tries as well, sees, but he makes all his saves.
Dark Eldar 0 - Tau 0
Tau Turn 1
Pretty much his entire army moves up. Stealth suits stay in their crater.
In shooting he does the following:
- He shoots all his kroot at 1 raider. He glances it twice, I
FF one off. He rolls a 6 for the glance, wrecking it...
- His hammerheads shoot my middle raider, I
FF off the first ones shots, and the second gets through wrecking it as well....
- All his pathfinders shoot my raiders, they whiff
- His back firewarriors rapid fire into the closest raider. I roll well, FFing off all the pens... and he wrecks it with glances again!
He also manages to stun one of my venoms. I pass all pinning checks. His suits fire and fail to hurt my ravagers.
Dark Eldar 0 - Tau 3
End of turn thoughts
Well dang...! Who woulda thought glances would hurt so badly
lol.... At least I'm to his lines! So the plan is; charge into his kroot and wipe them out hopefully, same with all the pathfinders and his back fire warriors. Now that i know what the suits do... I'll move up and blast those donkey-caves
lol!
Dark Eldar Turn 2
For the most part my army just moves to engage his in close quarters. I shuffle around to shoot his suits more. My last wych squad gets out of their raider ready to charge his backline on the hill with good rolls.
In shooting I kill 2 or 3 stealth suits and they hold tight. I also manage to stun his rear hammerhead. I also pick off some kroot from the middle so they're more manageable. I roll a 1 for my fleet and my rear wyches are stuck in the open.
In assault my 7 wyches into his large kroot unit with krootoxes. He paid for armor; drat. Anyways, I manage to roll exceptionally well and put down 8 kroot. He swings back and takes only 3 wyches and is subsequently run down. In the meantime my Haemi has split off and charged his pathfinders solo... guess what? we tie combat
lol. My rear wych unit charges his fire warriors, throwing down 7 wounds yeeeahhh!!!.... of which he saves 4 of them. Really? The firewarriors will not be denied and swing back, killing 2 wyches... and we stick. This seems to be a common theme with my Dark Eldar
lol.... My middle wyches charge and wipe out his 4 man pathfinders as well as plant a 'nade on his hammerhead, stunning it.
Dark Eldar 2 - Tau 3
Tau Turn 2
His suits stay off the board. He does some shuffling here and there, but mostly lines up for more shooting.
In shooting he blasts my wyches in the open off the board. His usable hammerhead also wrecks a ravager and his stealthsuits blow up one of my venoms.
In assault my haemi finishes off his pathfinders. My wyches do 5 more wounds, and he saves 3 of them... and kills a wych back, locking again. Lame -_-
Dark Eldar 3 - Tau 5
End of turn thoughts
Why wont they diiiieeeee....! Those stupid warriors are locking up a unit I could REALLY use to get to his backfield! Ugh! So the plan here is: move up the last wyches to get to his backfield and lay waste. I NEED to kill those suits this turn. If I get those warriors down and his suits it'll tie it up; which means the following turn I can take out his remaining finders, drones, and possibly two hammerheads! That will leave just warriors and some kroot to deal with.
Dark Eldar Turn 3
My wyches all move to engage their targets. My trueborn run out of their crater of a vehicle; imma assault those pesky suits!
Shooting I stun his other hammerhead and immobilize it. My remaining venom shoots some kroot. My wyches fleet toward his rearline.
In assault I FINALLY finish the fire warriors, consolidating toward the kroot. I now have
FC weeee! My trueborn assault his suits and... kill them all off! holy crap!
lol... Trueborn with
FnP go! I consolidate toward the edge of the crater. My rear wyches assault and kill his remaining pathfinders. In the middle my 7 wyches pen his hammerhead 3 times.... pulling off a weapon, immobilizing, and stunning it... damnit!
Dark Eldar 6 - Tau 5
Tau Turn 3
His suits come in.... right next to my wyches in the back. Damnit! his fire warriors scoot up and his kroot book it toward my line. Everything else either is stunned or doesn't wanna move.
In shooting his firewarriors run. His suits do a number on the rear wyches killing 4 or 5, but they stick. Nothing else really happens.
Dark Eldar 6 - Tau 5
End of turn thoughts
Pretty much clean up now; I have wyches all over his lines and I'm gonna let him have it!
Dark Eldar Turn 4
I shuffle. My back right wyches move toward the kroot; need at LEAST a 3" fleet to get em.
In shooting I stun his rear hammerhead again, pick off more kroot and firewarriors. I fleet... 1" for my wyches. Lame.
I manage to assault his rear hammerhead and drones with my wyches. Wyches kill 3 drones and stun the hammerhead again; but they stick. I charge his middle hammerhead AGAIN... and get a whole mess of 1's and 2's.
Dark Eldar 6 - Tau 5
Tau Turn 4
His suits hop up to blast my last raider. His firewarriors book it. Kroot move toward the wyches; he wants to fight!
In shooting his suits effectively wreck my last raider. Fire warriors run again.
In assault I stun the hell out of the stupid hammerhead AGAIN... My wyches and the kroot exchange blows, but in the end I manage to run them down. I have 4 wyches and the haemi left! My syrabite fin ally kills off the drones and consolidates toward the firewarriors.
Dark Eldar 8 - Tau 6
Dark Eldar Turn 5 - Tau Turn 6
The game pretty much is wrap up from here:
- My turn 5 focus fire from most of my army results in his Shas'o and bodyguard dying from lots of dark lances and venoms. My wyches fail to get to his last firewarriors. I manage to wreck the stupid hammerhead finally.
- His turn 5 he fires all his warriors and kills the wyches coming at him.
- My turn 6 I wreck the final hammerhead and go to charge them and he decides to call it; hed rather lose than be tabled. I don't blame em!
Dark Eldar win 11 to 7
KP's
VICTORY TO THE DARK ELDAR!!!!
End of game thoughts
That game was MUCH harder than I thought it'd be... for several reasons:
1) He glanced down more vehicles this game than penned them; that just aint right!
2) He was rolling really well for armor saves and leadership checks! It was nuts; I was losing fights in
CC to firewarriors! They're super brave
lol
3) His list was very unusual and I was completely unfamiliar with some of it (drone units/pathfinders with rifles)
Great game though, I learned quite a bit and my opponent was a lot of fun to play!
Hope ya'll enjoy this report and, like always, feel free to comment!
