Hey Dakka! Welcome to the Ultimate 40k Gaming clubs first (of what I hope to be many) blogs. This project comes from a need for a PDF force for a campaign we are running. I wanted to put a little twist on it however, to make it both a painting, modeling and tactical challenge. Heres the catch...

All models must be aquired through trades, donations or purchased 2nd hand (trading for NIB/NOS/ect is fine, but no buying things new)

The goal is to put together a force on the cheap. I have a bunch of stuff laying around that I no longer use and I want to find it all good homes and owning an IG army has always been on my "to do" list. Im not looking for this thing to win me any painting awards or anything. I just want something that will look good on the table. Having said that, any comments or suggestions are welcome. If anyone has any tactics they would like to suggest (as they see the models I am getting a hold of), feel free to put them up in the comments. Throughout the project I will throw in a bit of the armies backstory. So, without any more delay, here is what I have so far...

Some close up shots of the models in their original form (and a few painted towards the end). Also, I just finalized a trade for more IG so expect more in the near future.

The Primaris psyker remids me of the guy from "the actors studio" for some reason. not too shabby man keep painting they'll look even better as a fully painted force.

Looking good there, can I suggest a wash on the cloth part of a guardsmen. It would give it a little more depth, and darker look.

Ultrafool- Thanks for the advise. I have yet to use a wash after a 2 years in the hobby. This may need to be the army I start using them on...

Anyway, heres another (short update).

Heres your update this week. Its a little short this week as I have been getting my space marines ready for a tournament in November, but heres what I have done. I just recieved and painted up the fantastic Viktoria Skivlana model from War Forge. I am using it as a lord Commissar in my army. I also have a veteran squad about half finished (pics will be in next weeks update when the full squad is finished). Enjoy!

Looks like an interesting project

As Ultrafool said, I suggest investing in some Devlan mud or Gryphonne sepia wash. They don't call it liquid tallent for nothing

A quick wash over the fabric and possibly the skin will make a huge difference.

Heres another update. I just got in a trade all the way from the UK! The item I was most excited about was a Valkerie (which got converted into a Vendetta). It already had the hull mounted TL Lascannon coverted so I just had to make the wing mounted ones (used 4 Heavy Weapons Team Lascannons for the conversion). Theres plenty left in the box that will all make it in eventually, but this was just to cool to not paint up right away. Enjoy!

that is just awesome! Im waiting for her model to get in stock again. As a Tanith army im not sure how'd i run here but damn it im going to!

as a model , how hard did you find it to replace the bolt pistol with a stock 40k one?

Wow, what an awesome trade! I bet whoever traded that with you is formidably handsome. Great stuff Ultimate. You paint fast!

Swampyturtle- Heres what I have to say about that model in general... she is FRAGILE!!! Her ankle broke just cleaning off the flash. Having said that, its a beautiful sculpt and well worth the effort. As for replacing the pistol, it wasnt all that difficult. Again, just be carful when you do it.

Tek- I appreciate the trade. I got so excited about it coming in, it kinda derailed the veteran squad (again lol). But the secret is having undercoating slaves... i mean friends that will undercoat for you. I have a good friend of mine helping me tremendously with ideas for conversions and helping get models ready to paint. Honestly, the project wouldnt be at the stage its at without her.

Minor update: I just found another fellow dakkaite who just shipped out a 2nd edition Leman Russ to me. That will bring it to a full squadron of 3 (1/3 painted up). Perhaps that will be coming in the next update or two.

Also, I want to give a huge thanks to those who are contributing in any way to this blog. From the people who are trading me their old models, people following the thread or just checking in for the first time. I appreciate the comments and suggestions. Thanks again! More soon...

i seee you got yourself a box of Shcoktrooper greatcoats, they are really great models, even though a tiny bit more detail could of gotten on them, but i love the look of the killzone style helmets !

Heres another update. Finished up the other "Standard" Leman Russ and painted up the markings on all of the tanks. Hope you enjoy and more on the way!

Just got a treat in the mail today. New model in from a fellow wargamer in New York. Its an old model Leman Russ! It was cool looking over the old rules that it came with. So much has changed about the game over the years and its neat to have a little piece of 40k history in the army. It hasnt made it to the painting table yet, but I wanted to give everyone a little teaser of whats to come. So, for all your viewing pleasures... The Leman Russ...

Happy Veteran's Day everyone! I want to take this time to say a whole hearted "thank you" to anyone who has served out country (past or present). Your sacrifice makes the world a better place.

Its a short update today but I hope to post again tomorrow as another tank is 90% finished. I am also going to be posting up pics of the WHOLE army up to this point. Theres also a LOT on the way (a couple more tanks, chimeras and some Kasirkins) so get excited for that in the near future . As for now, what better update on Veteran's Day then the first unit of veterans in my army! Another update is coming up soon so stay tuned...

Alright Ladies and Gents! Its that time again. Yesterday I finished up the 3rd Leman Russ Battle Tank (making the first squadron of 3 ). Also, I traded off some plauge marines and a Plauge Demon from Ultraforge Miniatures for 2 NIB Chimeras. I also threw in an "army so far" pic. Its coming along pretty well and more is always on the way. Still waiting on a few packages to come in (the last for a little while I think ) but I have plenty left to work on.

Hey Everyone! Got a couple packages in the mail. One contained 2 Leman Russ Battle Tanks and the other 10 Kasrikins (my "counts as" Stormtroopers) with 2 meltas. The Kasrikins are painted so they will have to get redone before they are ready to join the ranks of the Defense Force. I also got the command squads Chimera built (and is almost done being painted, but thats for the next update ). Enjoy!

Its update time again. I finished up the command Chimera and im really pleased with how the banner came out. Also, I put together a themed terrain piece for the campaign im running. Its for the guard so I figured I would throw it on here for kicks and giggles.

Whats coming up next? Hopefully I can motivate myself to get another squad of Vets painted up. Other than that, im looking forward to painting up some Kasrikins. Either way, keep on the look out for more soon!

Captainsolstice- indeed it is! Nothing was purchased for retail price (most things below 50% off) and the only nib things I have received in this project are the chimeras. Everything else was repainted and TLC'd to their current status. If you haven't seen it, check the first post to see what I started with.

Medabee- I will prob go back later and add details to a lot of the models in the army. My main goal now is getting things on the table. I refuse to play with it before I can field a fully painted army (that's how I end up with tons of unpainted stuff)

Hello again Dakka! Kind of a random week as far as progress goes. I got a few new items in the mail, got some things built and got a test model done for my Kasrikins. Its finals time at school and thus its going to be a slow week followed by a month with little to get in the way of some serious painting progress Side note: The final tanks are on their way to bring me up (and past) a full tank company.

I have a ton of models that im excited to get painted up, but I want to hear from you guys! What is it that you would like to see next on this blog? Maybe some more tanks? Veterans? Some specialty models? Make some suggestions and maybe you will see your suggestion in the next update or two! As always, thanks for looking over this thread and I hope you enjoy!
