@Vitruvian XVII: Thanks! Almost didn't recognize you with that mask.

@Gitsplitta: Same here. No "auto-adjustment" on the pictures I upload. It's weird though with the quality loss. Seems to be much more hefty with pictures from the new cam than with the old one. I posted in Nuts&Bolts and was told that there was no way around that due to bandwidth, which I can understand. I think I'll switch back to using picture hosting sites (but of course will still upload pictures to the dakka galleries).

@Dysartes: Well spotted. I actually don't know what happened there, but I'm pretty sure it has something to do with someone entering the room and bugging me with something inane.

@Reaper Man 2020: Thanks, those are indeed nice models.

Update!

...and here's a WIP of this week's "weekend figure":

It's still WIP but I'm pretty happy with it so far. Tried a new recipe on the NMM gold and it seems to work rather well. What do you think?

That gold looks very nice, i think i prefer this method.

The Rhinos look ace, however one thing thats bugging me is the earth. It seems to me like there is not enough land on those, makes it hard to distinguish what its supposed to be, especially against the blue background. eg:
Spoiler:

And yeah..... Im somewhat "Anonymous" with this pic....... hint hint

Another smashing display of painting, Sigur. The gold on the Samurai is definately an improvement, even though the other method worked well, too.

The Rhinos and the Predator seriously look the business. I struggle to think of something much constructive to write about how you could improve them. Mud or no mud, they're still going to be great.

Cheers Sigur!

@Vitruvian XVII: Thanks. About the amount of land mass on the World Eaters symbols - now that is a nice critizism. I guess you're right. I was so amxious I might be overdoing the initial ones on the Land Raiders that I probably ended up doing too little. Can't really go back and change it but you're right. Darn.

@Cosmic: Thanks! There will be hardly any mud as the army is based on sandy desert bases so it's mostly just lots of "sanded-off" paint with maybe a little yellow dusting on the lower ends of the vehicles.

@Capitansolstice: Cheers.

The samurai dude is finished!

...and if you're interested in reading a little review about this model, I did a little write-up of my thoughts and experiences here. Something interesting occured during the assembly stage. (no, I did NOT harm myself again :p ).

Also managed to get started on another random and fun miniature:

It's still WIP and I probably won't be able to finish it until next week but again, much fun to work with. If you're interested I'll write up a review about those minis as well in the future.

Even with it's quirky nature I kinda am really impressed with that last mini and the samauri, it seems even better than your 'normal' work! that gold is amazing! great stuff!

Samurai looks very nice Sigur and the NMM came out very well. It might just be my monitor but I think you should try and make the gold a bit "warmer" with more brown in the transitions. Currently it looks like it's just black to yellow?

@nerdfest09: Thanks. Yeah, on that Samurai I decided to kick back and really have fun with that model instead of finishing it within a certain timespan as with most minis presented in here.

@Vitruvian XVII: Thanks. It's really a nice sculpt.

@Moltar: Naw, it's a cute model as it is. No need to make it look scary.

@Cutthroatcure: Who ever heard of such a silly thing! Squirrels in merry men outfits playing the fiddle is serious business!!

@Eggroll: Thanks. The NMM gold indeed is basically yellow and black. As I wrote in an earlier post, I tried out something new for my recipe. So far, my NMM gold was very much brown-based, giving it a warm quality. As you pointed out, the recipe used on this model displays a much "cooler" kind of NMM gold. To get away from my usual recipe, I basically went and did the complete opposite. The red is pretty warm a colour already so the cooler gold makes for a nicer contrast. It may be a little too black-and-yellow but now that I worked with both polar opposites I can much better do the in-between versions (at least so I like to think ).

@Rogue Wolves: It's the Will Scarlet model by Dark Sword miniatures. They released it in fall 2011 and right from the day they announced it I knew that I want to paint that model. Apart from their wide range of anthropomorphic characters they have a bunch of other ranges as well which have very, very cool models. I highly recomment going through their online store, having a look at the variety of models there.

Hey guys, I know it's been a week since I last posted an update. Part of the reason for that is my new camera with which I've been wrestling a bit to get proper pictures out of it. I don't want to go into details (because I'm just getting a slight grasp of them as well at this point :p ) but I think I'm starting to get into it. So here are a few pictures of Space Wolves:

It's baffling what this camera can do so please bear with me if these and the next few pictures look a little off once in a while (like the Terminators picture on here with that yellow tint).

They're all still WIP but the Terminators are as good as finished, same with the Long Fangs (they need squad designations and a few other details) and the Thunder ....wolf cavalry need their mounts painted. All of them will get a few patches of snow on their bases in the end as well.

Sooo.... I guess that's all for now. Hope you like the pictures, C&C welcome as always and put on your coat when going out. It's freezing.

P:S.: Oh, I also played a game of 40k again! 1500pts, my IG versus Tau. Fun game, I used two units that got really bad press since the release of the latest IG codex. I thought I'd give them a try against Tau so I brought two units of Stormtroopers and two Basilisks. Basilisks worked like a charm, Stormtroopers.... well, I used them a bit badly, expecting them to jump in, kill the Tau commander and survive a turn of shooting from 20 Firewarriors. Yes, they are a little overpriced but I think that they can potentially do very well and I really like the old beret-wearing Stormtroopers models. I got about 40 of the guys, including heavsy weapons teams, special weapons, the Sergeants and all that. They also got one of the most badass artworks in 2nd edition codex IG.

@Cutthroatcure: Yus, they are a nice alternative if you have to use GW models for participating in GW tournaments and the like. For anything else, there are quite a lot of big riding wolves on the market by third party designers.

@Arkasi: I went a little more in a pink-ish direction, yeah. Pure orange highlights quickly make the red look kind of "cheap" and orange-y overall.

@nerdfest09: Your cousin takes the photos for you? Anyhow, cheers, I think I'm starting to get a hang of it. Learning more about it each day. (and thanks for the compliments on the models ).

Update with finished stuff!

Terminators:

Long Fangs reinforcements (they are going to join the existing three packs):

Thunderwolf Cavalry:

Hope you like them, C&C welcome. Fun fact: As I commenced doing the snow for the bases it started snowing outside. :-)

Next up: Venerable Dreadnought (Forgeworld), Dreadnought Drop pod, Caestus Assault Ram.

By the way, let me know if any of you have too many Games Worksop skeleton warriors lying around. I need a few of those.

@Cutthroatcure: Yup, it's a neat model. The banner is a bit baffling with basically a rotting head at the top. I'm not awfully fond of the new OK monsters altogether so I was rather pleased to see that they were assembled with more sensible teeth.

@Gitsplitta: Thanks very much. Well, I invest so much time into painting I better be speedy. By the way, am I turning mad or are you switching between avatars?

Update!

Hope you like it.

On a different note, I played another game of Infinity last night. Really nice system, beautiful models, still couldn't get beyond Aleph's Achilles (in 40k terms he's a Wraithlord and I got no Melterguns or hidden powerfists), still am not really good at using my airborne troops effectively and for some odd reason I'm not able to grasp the concept of coordinated actions or basically just "Stick together, group". This game really requires you to change your state of mind if you're mostly used to playing 40k and due to the fact that I play about a game a month I kind of have a hard time getting into it. I guess I'll have to remedy that in the next weeks and really read up on rules and so on. Well, now that was a paragraph of public interest, wasn't it.

Anyhow, I'm cracking on on painting, will try to deliver you with the finished Caestus Assault Ram as soon as possible (let's see if I do another "weekend miniature" for myself or ebay this weekend or if I manage to stick to the Assault Ram). It's well on its way. Thing is that it's basically a large brick, in the case of Space Wolves a grey brick, so when painting it you have to think of where to add splats of colour and such to break up the mono-colour while avoiding the old "explosion in paint factory" look.

Forgive my ramblings but I basically had to kill a few minutes while waiting for a call to pick someone up. Not much use to starting painting some more at this point because I know that once I get some paint on the palette the phone will ring so I thought I'd share some essential thoughts on the interweb.

Alright, I'll leave you alone now. Let me know what you think of the Dreadnought. See you later and if not: Have a nice weekend.

That dread is ace, Siggy!! The yellow tones you've achieved on the banners looks great and the subtle battle damage seems to look like a slight improvement on your already awesome looking take on that effect. If I had any critique, I feel like the eyes don't "pop" enough, but that could just be from the photos. Regardless, it looks awesome. Your client should be more than happy with these wolves.
