I've been developing a village in creative in single player for some time, because I haven't really had any desire to play survival recently (which also epxlains why I'm not on the server much). Towers full of doors, fun times!
Where B = any kind of block (depending on what theme you want to go with), D = door, E = empty, G = glowstone or torch to keep it lit. You can see the prototype tower on the previous page (link).
A total of eight doors, enough for just under three villagers. Not the most spectacular setup, but it works just fine, takes up very little horizontal space, and you can stack it to the heavens. The minimal horizontal space allows it to be easily defended and easily lit up. Put a space between them, and you can have towers next to eachother with the occasional bridge linking them, if you want.
A better design would probably be this bigger one:
With a torch in each empty area.
But frankly I couldn't be arsed-- that looks even uglier than the Tower of Doors, and is extremely claustrophobic.
The Tower of Doors can also be done underground with relative ease, with a space or two around it for a staircase.
I think it could work rather well, the main thing is aesthetics. IT's hard to make that tower look decent, but at least it's symmetrical.
Perhaps stonebrick construction with stoneslab corners?
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, I edited that code section up there to make it more clear-- there does need to be a walkway on each level so you can access any villagers that spawn up there, and having a staircase (either stairs or slabs work) wrapping around it is obvious.
Well it has to have stonebrick somewhere. If top slabs work they could make the ledges.
Fun thing too which I've noticed, but if we simply put doors into my watch towers instead of the windows they should actually work as well.
Another look may be smooth stone, with stone brick corners or perhaps even working with wood.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Oh quick thought that may or may not make it needlessly complex, but run a minecart system to pick them up and bring them down from time to time. Easier said than done though as I was thinking a minecart spiralling inside of the tower, but hadn't got to the part where we get them out.
Second try. I put down two villagers in the first floor and then expanded it to four floors. Very quickly, it filled up.k
However, I felt like it was kind of bland, so I added a deck to each floor after the first, and a first floor fence-cage with a piston (to avoid letting the villagers out) door..
Still, it works. Within the few minutes it took to build it from the first floor to when I started building the deck, the population had already gone from two to five.
No, it's just slabs. I didn't use a single stair block-- because slabs can be used for both blocks and slabs whereas stairs can only be used for stairs, I tried to avoid stair blocks.
I did use slabs for the staircase if that's waht you're asking.
Just meant the decks in a sort of way to make them more compact. But, then the staircases fit in well with them currently so it'd probably throw it off.
I've had them marked out for a while (sign tag thing changed so the signs vanished from the map ). We've done minimal work on the village on the right there through had planned to eventually join the two together. But, if it's alright with Mel I suppose you can take the one on the right or even join us in combining the two.

Join us in combining the two sure, but not take one.
It's changed quite a bit from what it looks like on the map, though.
So Iustis, I'm glad you noticed what I was doing with the doorshacks There's a mine below the pit, by the way. I'm using it to gather as much cobble as I can to turn in to stonebrick to finish the wall.

Also the animals appear to be climbing the ladder to freedom. They simply don't seem to appreciate the fethpit.
Yeah was that way for me, figured if it's asking her to shut up it'd turn it off instead of on. So when the music's playing and it says sing like the old times, it stops.
Also the melon farm is a little more efficient and a little more annoying now.
The Tekkit server is almost a thing.
It won't be on at all times (or most of the day) because I can't leave my pc on all day.
It will use Hamachi, or if you have another idea for it, let me know.
I'll want applications via PM, but not yet.
I'll be the op. Another will be appointed if needed.
Not hamachi, Tunngle.
It is 1000 times better, more secure and it doesn't have a 5 person limit.
I have a bukkit server set up on tunngle. I'm thinking of adding the supernaturals plugin...
I GET DIBS ON THE DEMON!
I would apply for the tekkit server, one question though, are you disabling massive destructive devices like nukes or are you ok with the reloading of the map if something goes wrong.
OH MY GAWD.
How many...?
And look, guys, if you're going to use nukes do it in a testing zone (which 4oursword my or may not set up).
P.S. sword, may I have controls over worldedit? Or creative. Preferably both. Just makes my job easier. If you check the recipes about 3/4 of them are endgame blocks and items, and I don't want to have to take that long to build awesome structures.
No worldedit, it's not in anymore. Nukes are fine IF THEY ONLY WRECK YOUR STUFF.
Use them for making an underground house, that's fine. Make a whack-ass hole in the floor to live in (Bloodhorror) That's fine.
Do it far away, please. And by please, I mean, if you don't, I will imprison you in a bedrock cube that shoots mining lasers at you every tick.
As for creative? Nope. Sorry guys, it defeats the point. If we're really struggling, I might gift everyone maybe a condenser to speed things up a little. Maybe.
Bah!
Never mind. Just my turbines will take days to build. They use up a lot of reinforced stone and glass, and the engines will cost a lot in resources as well.
Plus, with world edit I could have made a HUGE oil reserve like I did on my Tekkit server...
I used it to power an oil power station. I got a hell of a lot of juice from it before it was even 3/4 full. About 7 MFSU's full of energy, to be exact.
ok, but I unfortually can't test it now... Gaming comptuter is out of my reach... Also, do I need anything other than MC and Tekkit to join? Oh, and what version of tekkit?
Haven't put down any more doors yet the City of Ghost is up to seven golems now. Seems the stair building in the corner where they massed somehow got them to spread out through the town a little better so they started going for some of the buildings on the opposite side of town everyone had been ignoring.
edit: just finished the front side of my rooftop castle, thinking of putting either a lava pyramid or something else above it, just for lulz. Might also install a doomsday button to detonate my TNT cache.....but maybe not. I've still got like 18 stacks of TNT, so it'd probably crash dakka. Also gotta resurface the castle, and then TNT proof it (my patented method).
You guys need Tunngle to connect, though!
Or you can just make a private network for the Dakka Forums? I have a private network for me and my friends, I'll leave someone else to get a public Tunngle server.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Tungle network name: thenoobbomb

If you wanna join, ask and I'll whitelist you!
Server won't be online always, but in GMT nearly everyday a while.
The server has online=false, so everyone is welcome
What are you running? Bukkit? If so, I strongly recommend you get the mmsupernaturals plugin. One of the best rpg plugins around, next to mcmmo.
Automatically Appended Next Post: Just a note:
If you're using a public Tunngle Minecraft Server, then you'll all need to be on the same public network. I suggest the Minecraft[EN] network. I think that's the English one.
Alright, FINALLY got the second layer of my castle up, and guess what....the number of squares I needed was too little. Time for some recalibration and remodelling. Ah well, I have like 40 stacks of cobble anyway.
I was thinking of starting a clan/group/gang but I cannot think of a name (post if you have one) or an icon. (no shields or diamond swords as they are too common) But I thought of having a wither skeleton head as a background with glistering melon at the bottom. And maybe a YouTube channel! (adventure map let's plays?)
How can it crumble if we add regular updates and videos such as let's plays, updates, mods and creative/redstone creations and a regular blog on twitter and dakkadakka?
I don't think many of us are particularly interested... The surprising lack of people who are capable of setting up a basic server is rather shocking, complete with the high reliance on Hamachi... I've managed to host 2 to 3 people from Britain to Aus and NZ without it being too laggy. After that it takes a nose dive.
And since you're asking on a global forum where the majority of posters are US, UK and a whole bunch of others... You can try to make it work, but that'll ruin everything you ever loved about the internet, plus 2.
winnertakesall wrote: Unless we bite the bullet, put a few quid in a fund, and run a hosted server?
I was debating doing that for the tekkit one. I don't like the costs, nor do I like asking people for money. Because I know that I'd eventually go mad with power.
Personally, I'd happily put a bit in for a server fund for a tekkit server.
At a very quick glance, with a site picked at random, we could get a 15 man server with a gb of memory for $20, or in real money £14 a month. Stick in about £3 each, even a bit less, and we've got an up and running tekkit server.
Melissia wrote: I find it amusing how you call pounds real money. It's almost cute, like watching a child try to pay for something with monopoly money.
Yeah, real money is euro's.
The dakka MC server is hosted on the dakka servers.
Melissia wrote: I find it amusing how you call pounds real money. It's almost cute, like watching a child try to pay for something with monopoly money.
Anyway, I dunno if a gb is enough-- what does MC currently take up on the dakka server, dark?
Actually, the Pound Sterling is the oldest currency in the world, still in use.
but yeah, I get the feeling that the dakka server is pretty damn huge
Got deopped on my friends tekkit server. It's not open yet, but soon will be. IP is 5.39.36.255:25625. No whitelist soon. I'll notify you when it's open...

Dakka as a site's on many servers, and the MC one is on the smallest.
Really? I thought it was in the region of a few gb, maybe that's the PCgamer world I'm thinking of. Still, so, anyone up for bringing up a Dakka tekkit server?
I'm willing to play a few quid for a tekkit server. Aslong as it's reliably up and I don't have to worry about it being deleted to laziness/arguments/bad admins etc. The nice thing about the Dakka server is that there is none of that, I don't have to worry about any singleplayer game being deleted and I know that the Dakka server won't suddenly be destroyed, deleting everything.
Well, it's a freaking mahoosive modpack, combining the best mods to grace minecraft into one awesome package. I think it's a huge improvement on vanilla.
Melissia wrote:Anyway, I dunno if a gb is enough-- what does MC currently take up on the dakka server, dark?
4oursword wrote:Nah, it's a wee folder smaller than 38mb.
I can't tell if sarcasm, so I'll just say the Dakka Minecraft world currently occupies 2.3GB (not counting the backups). However, that's mostly because people went exploring off to 30000 and things. A reasonably sized world for a few people can be maintained under 512MB.
Well I certainly didn't go to 30000! I stayed within a reasonable distance of 15000 blocks from spawn. I'd like to throw in a fiver too, but I can't make a paypal or anything to give someone money, plus my parents wouldn't be best pleased if I asked them for a fiver to help make a server.
winnertakesall wrote: So, what do we think? Are we going for this tekkit server then?
Tell you what, I'll try to set up a server of mine with Tekkit, just as an attempt. I've not got a map, but if it works, I'll load up a map made by 4 and OP him.

So we can just use that, I guess. Shame, I was doing well playing on the server by myself... foreveralone.jpg
is that what you were workng on when I travelled 3000+ blocks to give youresources?
It is great!
Basically except even with 3000+ blocks that was still not enough. I still need more cobble in the first time in my life, I am actually out of cobblestone......
What?
Count me in. As soon as i can fix tunngle. Downloaded the "newest" version and it's bugged a bit. I think it's just to do with this version. I'll backdate it, see if that works, and if it does, then I'll play.
On the dakka minecraft server i'm building an iron farm, but I'm having problems. The villagers aren't breeding.
So unless dark spawns some villagers into a makeshift breeder and then transfer them I will require someones villagers to put into the farm.
The location is X504 Z2548, could you please post/contact me if you've got a village that can spawn villagers for the iron farm, I require a minimum of 34 and probably will need 100.
I have rails and roughly 12 minecarts but some more rails and carts would be appreciated.
How about some screenshots of how you have their houses set out? Mel's towers seem to spawn them surprisingly easy so might be able to incorporate them into the design.
Yes, the towers we built should work. You just need to make sure that the area that the iron golems spawn in has the golems pushed in to the pit.

Nah.
Battles on minecraft are kinda dull to me. I'm more interested in the actual construction and design-- IE the mining and the crafting part of Minecraft.
I'm thinking it's out of the mating zone, meaning I will have to move it into the centre.
I will build mels design and move them into the centre, after I've got as many as possible in I will create the bit underneath that kills them and keeps the drop.
It also will double as a rotten flesh farm, also please vacate the area after you've got your stuff leave through the portal as thr drops will cause massive lag.
Just wondering how far away things will be loaded at. Because otherwise there could be huge lag issues.

Maybe before you go and build one, research the actual concept of it first. I am currently working on the plans of an iron farm that gives an iron golem every six minutes, which is the maximum efficiency for a golem farm. I assume you've got no villagers outside your compound because if you do, that's one of the biggest problems right there for no breeding villagers.
I have none that I know of, but since I was banned for a while and the walls fell into disrepair and some might have escaped but I don't think they've survived.
The maximum efficiency isn't one every six minutes, unless the recent updates have changed that, something like 25 Testificates sustains 1 Golem, they spawn 8 blocks away from the centre of the village designated by the position of the testificates. Therefore if I put 250 in a single spot I have 10 spawning meaning one golem every 18 seconds assuming they spawn once every 3 minutes which is about as accurate as possible.
There's a plugin that calculates it but I evidently can't use it on this server, one thought though is if I had the seed and so on I could replicate it on single player and work out the spot there.
It takes 14 villagers minimum to spawn one golem, and they spawn every six minutes when they are far enough away from the villagers. Don't believe me?
Here's a tutorial for one.
Just worried that witches will make NPC villages and iron farms a pain unless they're apart from NPC villages and respawn within that area.
Otherwise they could be a massive pain.
I am looking forward to armour dyes and the new mechanics to riding pigs! also endermen now have a herobrine scream sound in snapshot 12w38a! I am not looking towards the witch as they make looting harder BUT they can be used in adventure maps to make the map harder.
Hmm, they were never quite that congested before. Guess it was night or raining. Or they're still multiplying...
Although I do already have one of those big towers half done, maybe they'll move over to it when it's finished. Either way, our village is best village.
Okay, I am working on my castle again, Huge job. I am almost run outta stone.
Basically I am levelling out the roof of a mountain, will probably cut the sides vertical and install an anti-spider measure. Then the castle construction will probably end up taking the same amount of stone brick with the normal castle as well.
Also, just wondering whose cobble box is in the distance from me? It looks just weird.
I know you're not on the Dakka server, but an FYI for those who are:
Using Nodus on the Dakka MC server is a bannable offence.

If not, then there needs to be someone to find out who did that.
Don't recognise the name.
As far as I'm aware, Chompy and Noztrill are your nearest neighbours. Noztrill has been on recently, building this, but that's not cobble. As has been said, if you can provide coords or a map link, it'll help. I can't see any cobble box near you on the map.
Finished the walls. I'll take down the cacti later (I took the cacti down that would ahve allowed spiders to go through, just want to get the rest for the sake of consistency).
Also made a memorial and harvested about six stacks of wheat.

Yeah, we had too many then I got the "great" idea of putting a cactus in the bottom of one of the towers to thin them out a little or cycle through the deals better; no idea. Anyway it didn't take long for them to go from probably over 100, to about 3...

I'll make a thread, but I still need to figure out how to port forward my bloody server... It still won't work. I have to use Tunngle, but there you go. And why has my Tunngle thread simply frozen? I put a lot of effort into that :(.

Still need to think of/create a map for some event thingy
I have an entirely computer-controlled skybase on mine, hovering over an ocean with a mark 1 reactor that outputs 2030EU/t. And a forcefield. I mustn't forget the forcefield. That's invisible. And electrocutes gak.
I love Tekkit.
Yeah, unfortunately it can't move... Or can it? 2030EU/t... That's almost enough to explode a HV cable... And my reactor is mark I ?!?!?!?!?! How the hell did I manage that?!

I think I hate the Nether. Or maybe the Nether hates me.
Five minutes ago, first time going into the Nether (creativ mode aside). Fall directly into lava. That an enchanted diamond pickaxe, an enchanted bow, arrows, a complete enchanted iron armor, three enchanted iron swords.
But that's good, i take some blocks to make a ground, set the world on peacefull (just for the building time). I go into the Nether, place some blocks, feel confident, and set the world on easy. Some pigmens, I kill one. Hey, enchanted gold sword. But his friend seems to hate me, so i'm going home I guess ? Well, that's not the opinion of the Ghast. My portal deactivate before my eyes, and the pigmen kill me.
Minecraft is one of the most infinitely replayable games out there.

Oh ,the nether hates you. You are an unnatural abomination to the nether.
I travelled to your village today Mel & n0t_u and I really like it! Alas I died to an angry iron golem when I tried to open a door and accidentally hit a villager (With my fist). Thanks to n0t_u for getting my stuff, I'll be back to collect it soon.
You tend to learn how to do it when you're almost swarmed by over 20-30 of the things at a time with at least two golems following.
Also Mel, the villagers have sort of absconded with your cat... At first kicking it to the door then out, last I saw it was in the house across the street.
I have a 7850 graphics card brand new that I first used yesterday, today i've been having a really weird problem in GW2 & Minecraft, these weird shapes of colour keep flashing over my screen when I play, is this a graphic card issue, or could it be something to do with my VGA to DVI-I cable? Some help would be great as google has produced nothing nobody with similar issues.
Try putting your graphics card's full name up, in quotes. then put the game's full name up in quotes. Then put "graphical glitches" or "graphical errors" in quotes.
Is the card seated properly? Did you need the VGA to DVI adapter for your old card? If yes, are you using the same cables and adapter, or, if no, have to got a different computer to test the cables and adapter on or have you got a spare cable or adapter to test with your current PC?
Is it just GW2 and MC that have these problems? Have you tried fiddling with the graphics settings?
Well I've taken to writing down the random crap the villagers tend to do sometimes. Figured we have the book, not using it and the library in the Dakka museum is probably rather empty. I also invented democracy. They have a somewhat fair process with a weak and pretty much useless figure head as the result.

Day 5:
Larry brushed his teeth with another rose he got from an Iron Golem today. At least his teeth look pretty.
Day 17:
Hugo was elected President today in a landslide win over his opposition, Daisy the Cow, although it might be good to bear in mind that cows do not have any ability whatsoever to read a ballot paper, nor do they have the ability to use a pen to put a cross in a box. The final votes came out as 71 to Hugo and 2 to Daisy.
Day 32:
Hugo declared this day to be Sensual and Erotic eXperience day. Again. This makes it 15 days in a row.
Day 44:
I was spotted today. They just kept staring at me until I left. I feel violated.
Day 50:
Dennis offered me a trade today. He wanted 10 emeralds in exchange for an apple. I kicked his head. Nobody cared.
It is down again....possibly because when it was fine 10 minutes ago everyone logged in.
offline mode it is then. (I don`t care since I am building an adventure map called meteorite strike and one quest and spawn is finished)
Heh I spawned right in that pool yesterday. Blame it on me not having logged in in a while and Minecraft user's need to whump pools on the side of of any structure of significant size.

Yep, graphics card is defintely sitting properly/this is my first build, so no pc, other then a laptop, to check on/No, i'm going to borrow a VGA to DVI adapter from a friend tommorow and test that out. Fingers crossed it will sort it out, thank you for the help so far.
Edit: and same problems with Mount & Blade aswell as Minecraft and GW2.
As in the texture pack? (this seems familiar )
Which reminds me I have to update it myself as it should have the snapshot stuff in it a while a go by now.
Anyway running out of ideas about what buildings the city could have in it. I tried upgrading their "democracy" yesterday, but lost the train of thought halfway through and ended up with a "church"...
