Anyway running out of ideas about what buildings the city could have in it. I tried upgrading their "democracy" yesterday, but lost the train of thought halfway through and ended up with a "church"...
Skyscrapers, bank, city hall, barracks, sculptures, rich district, poor district, mafia building, police building, factories, pub and so on.
There aren't any signs to point it out yet. I think we're also still deciding where the portal will go. I sort of want it above ground so the villagers can get into it easy during the next patch (secured of course so we don't flood the nether) to link the two halves better.
It's out here at 1500, -1000. Chompy's house seems to have the closest portal by the looks of it, but I remember it being out in the open in the nether really close to lava so a bit of a nightmare. There seems to be some a little further away, but have a safer path.

Hmm, that probably leaves bank, city hall, barracks, police building, factory and a pub.
Factory has to make doors of course.
You know you guys need to go all-out with this, right? Just keep building new towers and structures, and make an entire legitimate City- one that has, like, 32000 residents.
I'll decorate the cobble generator a bit, but I don't think I'll end up expanding it all that much by myself. At the moment I'm thinking if when we make new sections with their wall would we just create a gate or knock out the connected wall instead.
Sounds a bit like the yogscast tekkit videos where they cover their rivals house in dirt.
anyway what is happening with the tekkit server? (I just wondered because nothing has been mentioned about it for a few pages)
I also quickly fixed the portal to it. The path sucks and the end is mostly cut out for it, but it does have a functioning portal now. Just no signs down at all yet.

Figure if people want to donate a whole bunch, they might be able to get their own floor in the tower we're building. Probably won't see it until the map updates, but it's to be a big sandstone tower in the center of town.
I say might because each room is planned to currently be seven blocks tall, which includes space for them to add their own flooring. Not sure how many we'll fit in as they only just started on the third floor, and the first two are taller. The ground floor being a small library and the next floor being the portal. I think the portal floor may be shorter, but I know the ground floor is definitely taller. The first residential floor isn't even finished and it's already taller than than all the other buildings there.
Sort of getting the skyscraper, town hall and library all out of the way at the same time. The top floor will be an office and I guess there will be an observation deck just above that.

Now if we were willing to donate but didn't want a room, would this be donating out the good of our hearts or donations for trades, I've got 6 stacks of sandstone up for grabs...

Sure, the room was more or less an idea I was kicking around to entice people into donating.
Of course it'd be great to get for free, but if you want to trade we can probably work something out.
Really? All Engines? Must have done something wrong then. Hmm, I've just worked out you can have a maximum of 5 engines on a quarry, I used to think it was 4 but then I realised, Obsidian Pipe + Redstone signal is your friend.
He, my exile pyramid is still standing! God, I really should mgo back to the spawn, but without a nether portal and being at somewhere like -10000 -10000 it's a bit impractical to walk/swim/run or even walk/swim/boat/run...
I broke down, tried to install Tekkit cause it sounded so interesting.
Tekkit simply does not run-- I get a "Technic Launcher Updator has stopped working" at the start-up, even when running it as administrator.
Goddamned game mods never work. Guess I'll troubleshoot this piece of crap...
Forum is singularly unhelpful. Bunch of arrogant douchebags talking down to anyone who has a problem. The people who answer bug reports and technical help questions on the forums are worthless donkey-caves and morons.
I found that, after searching through about about a dozen threads where people had my problem, then got flamed by dumbasses for having the problem without actually providing any help on the subject. Maybe if they actually helped peoples' problems more often they'd get less threads asking about it because it'd be easier to find on a google search of their gakky, ugly-ass forums.
I really should stop trying mods out in the morning, technical help for mods is always fail...
So, where do I find the mod packs for Tekkit now that I have its stupid launcher up and running, finally? The mod list says that none of them are installed (technically, they're all missing hteir info file and have no child mods, etc etc etc).
Ah.
Just select the modpack and it will download the mods. Use the recommended builds.
And use the tekkit pack if you don't want the gak to be scared out of you when mining.
Thaumcraft is also supposed to crash from time to time and is in a couple of those. But, it has the portable hole which is fun with all the other crap the rest put in...
Wyrmalla wrote: Sitting with nothing to do in college today, so yeah, oddity hunting. Is this player made or just an oddly generated hill? =)
It's close to the edge of the map, so it could be a couple of ungenerated chunks, or a surface intersecting ravine, or just something funky. I might do a fly past this evening (I'll stock some napalm just in case there's spiders)
I did log in. Found out the link that was given to me was an out of date .jar. Downloaded the correct .jar and am now running a single player tekkit and trying to figure this crap out.
Still no .info files though. Are tehy planning on updating tekkit to a newer minecraft? With Tekkit's huge creative inventory, it'd be nice to be able to search through it by name.
Suppose to be rare though, they just spawn over world side as this is still with the current version. Still with the building design anything that would get through is trapped on that floor.
Probelm was solved, although now I'm wishing that tekkit was using a later version of minecraft, so I could search through the huge list of items by name...
I built some wooden gears. Guess I'll look at the wiki to see hat to do with them.
Managed to stumble through starting up tekkit. I spawned atop a basalt volcano, managed to get a mining operation going and harvested a lot of wood (except the sole rubber tree I found).
tl;dr, I now have a battery pack. I just need to make something to use it with
Wyrmalla wrote: Sitting with nothing to do in college today, so yeah, oddity hunting. Is this player made or just an oddly generated hill? =)
Turns out it was ungenerated chunks, but when they generated, they made a rather nice caldera. It could easily be made into a volcano with little effort:

Well, in TECHNIC (only because it got updated recently )
I've made a nuclear reactor.
I'm so sure that it won't blow up I built it under my house!
hasn't even reached a heat level of 5 yet!
But I really can't wait to built a quantum suit, and a swiftwolf ring.
Void Armour is ok... but lacks any nice abilities...

But I've encountered a problem, How do you make a MCedit file, I tried the extract chunks but it didn't work?
If you want to save the whole world, MCEdit just saves it to the world you're working on. If you mean a schematic file that you can import into other worlds, click the crane icon I believe. Check the MCEdit thread on the Minecraft forums for the basics.
It has redstone, furnace, and oil based ones. Forgot their names.
I have managed to get combustion to work without exploding though. You need to input water as well as oil, which is bothersome, but eh.
Automatically Appended Next Post: I managed to get a fairly compact (such as it is) redstone engine based quarry working. I'll have to refine it later-- needs 64 redstone engines at red in order to obtain max speed.
Once I manage to get it as compact as possible I'll post a screenshot. I've spent way too long working on this lol...
try refining oil into fuel, it's better.
When I do use combustion engines, I usually have them set up as a power station, well away from my expensive quarries.
But since I usually play Technic, not Tekkit, I use Medium Solar Arrays and Electrical Engines
I already sort of got bored of it after about 20 minutes. The part of it I liked was finding the castles and raiding them. Then making them my own base, but I don't seem to come across any.
I suppose it would also be better multiplayer than single, it's sort of the set up plus being singleplayer that mostly stops me from starting anything up. Just too dull.
I've managed to make my oil turbine really compact. Before it was about 13x7x10 (l,w,h), but now it's only 5x5x12.
Ultra compact. Provides a lot of energy as well. But it requires a gakload of engines to run. But string 'em up in a long row and I got 16384EU/t out of them.
Mass fabricator.
F.
T.
W.
See, I did Technic before the launcher, and pretty much went through most of it. Now I'm focusing on Thaumcraft.
I don't need no Mass Fabricator, when I have Thaum-powered autofarms feeding Energy Condensers and Thaumium Crucibles. There's also a little 'cheat' between EE and Thaumcraft- most items are about equivalent in Smelting and EMC to make or break down, except Slime Balls. They cost very few EMC, but smelt for a ton, meaning you can use them to make Vis to make something cheaper (like sugarcane or something) to make more Slimeballs, and essentially make free magic.
Also working with Railcraft (anyone else do anything interesting) but need moar rails, and need to figure out a way to get it set up all automaticall.
While sure it was in creative, but I made a solar powered massfab which produced a UU-Matter every second. Had a pump putting them in to a personal safe, nearly filled it up while messing about with quarries, heh.
I need to start a pure-ish (aside from rubber, because rubber trees are way too rare) survival game on this to see how it plays out.
They allow you to hook up industrialcraft power such as solar panels to a quarry in order for it to work quite quickly indeed...
So basicaly it's the electrical engine of tekkit? Oh, I just watched a yogscast video with that in it, apparently you should not connect energy pipes to it as it wastes power (something like instead of supplying the power the machine that's connected to the pipes needs, it supplys as much power as the pipe will hold or something like that)
Anyone seen Direwolf20's SMP videos? while they don't use tekkit, they use many of the dev builds of the major mods in it + others (Gravisuit, Forestry, etc) Yeah, someone made a auto solar array placer that places high voltage solar arrays, and he has a machine that makes high voltage solars from uu... Made so much energy it was producing about 1 uu every 3 milliseconds, or something like that... He planned to make a 64x64 of High Voltage Solars...
Yeah, that city has no defense against a zombie attack besides having villagers trapped in the church. And yep it was Brandywine then.
Anyway I'm considering the tower finished now. There's no furniture in the residential floors, but I consider that up to who lives there anyway. One is also a guest room. And now a bunch of pictures of it and of around the city in general. It has the nicest unintended smile.
That only works if the launcher itself starts. For many people, the launcher will not even start the first time thy run it unless you do a complete reinstall of Java.
That and the .exe almost never works.
If you're having that problem, get the .jar, up the memory to about 1536MB (I give mine about that much) and find the highest bit java for your system. Make sure you have both 6 and 7. 7 alone is still buggy; it occasionally causes the lwjgl, jar to freeze when downloading.

That's insane. 0.0
...The effort required to get that much TNT implies they either stole it, or they were on the server for a while.
Was it linked up to your front door to blow...but you came in the window for some reason that day. =)
Well my tnt stock is fine, but I don't know whats happened. Dark, I have pmed you with the details, I've put rock in the section with the TNT which I was unable to redig out to show the extent of my area.
IDK, I think it was a crude attempt at quarrying or something of that sort.
^^ Because making a huge cave right under someone's house for the purpose of getting cobble is a great idea.... Especially when you don't know there's a house right above it.
Speaking of which, was palying around in mystcraft using technic. Ran in to a world with nothing but forests (lots of silverwood, yay?), cows and.... ghasts.
Sadly, this ended in fire. I made some Totems of Dawn out of it though, which was nice. Changed the corners of my home in to it.
As for how mystcraft works, you need to make a linkbook, then make some storybooks to travel to random "ages". The linkbook helps you get back to the overworld.
Perhaps not the simplest way of doing it (mods have had it so you just stick the two items in the crafting menu), but its nice to see it implemented. I suppose Mojang's primarily concerned about making the code better and adding stuff in at a simple level, but its nice to see features from the more popular mods making their way in (especially as the server's mod free XD).

But I wil show him who's boss when I get assistant moderator position and creative mode........
Ghost Pegasi and Horses that set gak on fire...
And Mine and Blade. Mine and Blade is a really good mod. It's got dual wielding ad knight armour, and the guy who makes it is also developing a mod based on commanding an army, and he's hoping to fudge Mine and Blade Battlegear in with it.
Perfect for medieval age RPG's.

Guess that if ya need to make bullets with one gunpowder each, that would be very expensive.
I would imagine bullets/shot would be made from iron ingot (or scrap metal, etc) + Gunpowder, and you'd get a good few per craft.
^^ Big thing I want to see? Larger versions of existing terrain features. Bigger river widths, mountains being generated, caves with stalagmites/tites (and hey, stick forts in them like in Skyrim...). Just more stuff to explore really.

Musket balls in the mod I listed are iron ingot, gunpowder, and paper, one each, and they make sixteen shots per craft.
Would that mean then though that we'd be seeing mobs with guns too? It'd be neat to have bandits in the game, hell having caves and forts inhabited by them would be great.
^^ Playing games where you can mod the hell out of them makes me begin to wishlist pretty fast. I mean in an Eldar Scrolls game if you want for their to be new enemies you just sit there for a while and implement them yourself, but if you want them to be in the game itself official you have to wait a while, or maybe not have them at all. =P
(hopefully I have linked the correct area on the map.)
Haven't seen anyone nearby so I'm claiming this little sea plus a bit of the surrounding coasts as my own.
Closest settlements would be Stormwarrior's lands, my village, and Spectreoneone's battleship. I doubt that Stormwarrior's tunnels extend that far either, so it should be fine to build there.
Yeah, my problem is that I should probably be building on a creative server, or one with pipes from tekkit so I could build a huge wool production center and not be absorbing hundreds of thousands of blocks building huge things.
I could build /forever/ if it weren't for constantly managing resources and bringing them to new staging points and all the BS that comes along with it.
Hmm... You know what could be cool? Covering over that entire body of water with just 1 or 2 blocks gap, where the Titans sit. Use it as a giant flat building area, and then we'd have the abiliyt to do something interesting beneath.
Also, could whoever's ganking all the Netherbrick from the path to Mellissia's and I's either return it or mine more for me (from somewhere unobtrusive). You've also taken quite a lot of my Netherhome.
Can you give the coordinates Anvildude? You mean the route that's now got wood planks for a floor? I don't use Netherbrick, but if its that route then its been like that for monthes now. =/
Near there, yeah. There's a big gap in one section (easily traversible, but open to Ghasts) and a ton of the Netherbrick has been either taken (in my own area) or swapped for Stone or Stone Brick.
And I haven't really been on significantly in months, so yeah.
Wtf. Anvildude I only just noticed what you're talking about. That's recent, as in the past month or so. I've been by it loads of times since its changed, but only now that you've mentioned it have I noticed someone's taken all the Netherbrick.
Who lives at, -2166, 2081? That house wasn't there before I think, and from what I can tell has used the nether brick to construct the area nether side. Unless that's you Anvildude, and they've just left that part alone.
Its weird in that there's plenty of nether fortresses nearby....
=/ I'm hunting about that area trying to see if its being used in any of the houses, but its such a weird thing to do that I doubt it would've been put to a sane use.
...I'm standing there in the nether right now with such a dumbstruck look on my avatar's little pixelated face. =)
I've tried out redpower, thaumcraft, mystcraft, industrialcraft, etc etc etc... out of all the various crafts, I'd say industrialcraft combined with buildcraft is the best thus far...
If you're talking about the pagoda-ish thing, that's mine (with the Netherbrick, Netherwrack, fences and iron bars). But yeah, just seems like such an odd thing to do.
What I tend to do is just mine out the insides of the big pillars, and the little dead-end offshoot branches inside the mountains. Plenty of material in a 20x5x5 column.
Also, though Buildcraft and IndustrialCraft are the most 'compatible' and can be used to make incredible things, you need the Magic mods to be able to do anything with the loads and loads of cobble and dirt you'll get using Quarrys and such.
Though what's interesting is that Equivalent Exchange no longer allows for INFINITE EMC through the use of Macerators, since all the metal Ores are non-transmutable. You can still use Vis to make them, though.

That pit to the right I'm not so sure of, always found random pits in deserts to look ugly. I can also see what looks like an extra two dungeons besides the two I had already found in that area. I guess now that's left is to extend it out to the other half before some random shack pops up in between them in render distance...

Speaking of which, I've already been making a very large mob grinder/holder beneath the titan. All you can see of it from the surface are the corners:
Basically Grundz wanted one because Minecraft has a hostile mob limit, so we thought having all the mobs trapped underneath it would lower the number of mobs spawning on top of the Titan.
Currently the grinder can be set in one of two states, a "holding" mode, where mobs are held close to the surface, and then it can also go into XP farm mode where the mobs are dropped for a one or two punch kill. Unfortunately due to the current 1.3.2 fall damage buginess some mobs die on impact and some need two or three punches. I even set up a little "alarm" to sound when mobs are ready for punching.
Also although it's operating and useable, the mob spawner is currently only about 10% complete and I hope to widen it out to the full width of the Titan eventually (as well as deepen it).

Thanks, I'll look into it later today.
As for the map, it's often out of date as soon as it's uploaded because I generate the map from the most recent backup, which due to my schedule, is often 5 hours behind (but I can't wait for the next backup). What I might do is shift the backup schedule to match my map schedule, so that the map seems more up to date when I update it :-)

I've been swapping the netherbrick for cobble/stone in the nether tunnels around that area when i've been in a hurry to get netherbrick, I didn't think it would be a problem aslong as I swapped it for another material so no trouble from ghasts.
Sorry, I can leave 5-6 stacks of Netherbrick in a chest in Grey Mesa for you or I'll swap all the stone/stone brick back to netherbrick, whatever's easier for you.
I defintelly havn't been destroying any bridges, the only places where I took from have been replaced with stone.
I just assumed that i'd be ok aslong as I swapped it out for another material, didn't realise the nether is divided up into property like the overworld, just thought it was public property or something.
Aplogises for any inconvience and i'll replace all that I took by the end of tonight or give it to Anvildude if that's what he'd prefer.
The rest of the damage defintelly isn't me though.
Schellan96's had some set off tnt/charged creeper at his house (plus a few creeper holes) + remove his bed, steal diamonds and mess his portal up. Also, between him and DbSamurai a tunnel's been blown up.

The nether is a community thing. There are some definite "property" areas, but for the most part we do it together. Which is why usually, unless it's building an expansion to reach your own portal, we ask before making changes.
Like when we moved most of the tunnels from glass to iron bars, we all pretty much agreed that it was better because we were tired of it being destroyed by ghasts. If you want netherbrick, I can direct you to a section of several nether forts that are unused, you can mine away at your leisure.
The completely missing netherrack (shown in Mel's screenshot) went missing on the 3rd-4th September. That's immediately after orkdestroyer1 was banned, so I know it wasn't him. He was also the last person to be banned, so whoever did it is still whitelisted.
If anyone would like to own up and offer to replace the missing netherbrick (like Lord-Loss has) and save me the pain of investigating month old logs, I'll let you off with a warning.

are nether fortresses infinite like mineshafts, or limited like fortresses?

FM Ninja 048 wrote: are nether fortresses infinite like mineshafts, or limited like fortresses?
They're infinite like mineshafts, just slightly rarer. However, beyond the top couple of levels, they're completely solid (not hollow) all the way to the lava/floor, so have plenty of netherbrick to go around in each one (shouldn't be any need to thieve other people's walkways).
Definitely. I do appreciate the replacement, and that's the big reason that I was only slightly put off instead of furiously RAEGing, ready to declare a WAAAGH!! (which I've been known to do- luckily I've never actually carried through on it.)
Just drop a stack of NB in the Mesa somewhere in the main chamber- I'll find it.
Also, I'm planning on doing something awesome with this thing. Whaddaya think: Airship dock caverns, or enormous foundries?
So, I think the village is about done unless we want to start on the next one. I might end up starting another project and then later on working on the second village.

Anyway I think we'll go left on the map first for a completely industrial area. Will be able to use the zombie dungeon there and knock out a bunch of those cacti. The dungeon will remain outside the wall though and feed the "factory" inside with a watervator tube. Or we could just have it inside the "factory" as well. Sections will be connected with a covered walkway between each, then I'm thinking either a walkway under or over it for people to get past easy. Could just make the walkway off the ground though, but then creeper explosions would become more annoying.
List of artists whose songs I need to purchase:
Two Steps From Hell
Audiomachine
Immediate Music
Epic Score
Zack Hemsey
Xtortion Audio
Future World Music
Les Friction
And a gakton of other artists who I can't seem to recall.
Are those cords for the hood on the chest? The under side of the hood at the back might do with a different texture (to me it looks as though its all black, rather than a dark version of the green). Otherwise, happy creeper baiting. =)
I'm still kinda focusing on tekkit right now, but soon I'm gonna find a new project to work on, will help you with the second village when I've gotten healthier and more interested in minecraft again.
I'm hoping that X-Com goes on sale sometime in the next month or so lol.

So on the netherbrick front, am I right in thinking it's OK to mine from any nether fortresses, including claimed ones, as long as the mining is done well into the solid section, below the actual fortress part? Or should I use the map to go find an unclaimed one... I guess that might be more fun anyway.
There's certainly at least one that's already been mined by various people and still has plenty of netherbrick left. This one here is (or was, at least initially) being used as a community source of netherbrick, see the windows near the bottom:
http://www.darkinnit.com/dakkamap/#/-78/64/-228/max/1/0
I don't know of any whole fortress that is "claimed" by a single person, most people just claim the blaze spawner or netherwart.
But I wouldn't be sore at you as long as you kept to hollowing things out- try making rooms instead of just big hollow pillars, though- then they can be used in the future for something.
Yeah, just kind of hollow out a three high section, build a stair down, hollow out another three high section, and so on and so forth, making rooms that way.
Eventually we can turn that kind of thing in to a nether base or something.

My first attempt at using an energy link on a quarry did not go quite as planned
For those confused, look at the landmarks, then look beyond the reinforced glass to see where the quarry ACTUALLY started harvesting.
For those curious as to how I got all the resources, well... I obtained about a stack and a half of diamond nether ore, which resulted in a net of three stacks of diamonds. And that doesn't include the other ores that I got from the nether... damn, nether ores are just broken right now. Although they are at least dangerous if you don't prepare (which I always do) for them Yeah, I pretty much broke my SSP run by using nether ores, ah well :/ I have to use the nether for glowstone though, so it sucks :/
Automatically Appended Next Post: Blaah. Had to replace the crystal chests with diamond chests, because they were lagging my system :/ I mean I have plenty of diamonds from the nether, but even still, hate waste.
I build a cobble bridge there so I could cross without having to jump around like an idiot trying to get out of the pit that was made. But what worthless piece of trash does something like that? That was obviously someone's construction (mine), and if you don't realize that from looking at it you're an idiot...
All signs from the investigation point to this being iLordNoob.
Wyrmalla and Shooms were also in the area on the same day (but were there before, not after and they have no netherbrick at the time).
iLordNoob, is it possible you took the netherbrick, but had run out of stonebrick to replace it, and forgot to go back and fill in the gap? Anyway, as you've apologised for the other netherbrick you removed and offered to help fix it, I'll let you off with a warning. I much prefer it when people can resolve their problems by talking to each other
Hmn, it would seem the bug I'm getting with glass not rendering isn't exactly what I thought it was. It is showing up, but when two glass blocks connect only the borders on the sides not touching display. ...Thus why my glass floors appear invisible. Odd, and a bit of a bother aestheticly, but I guess I'll live.
This post is assuming I get white listed for the dakka server
I'm thinking of building a either a coast fortress or a treehouse around X489 Z1383. Its a finger of earth pointing out to the sea near a nether portal and a frankly lovely castle. Does anyone have designs in their mind for this land yet? Or can I go ahead once I'm white liste. I won't be mining too much underneath there, I'll try to restrict that to out under the sea, I imagine thats the best place for it, the least likely to hit another's tunnel.
Also, would it be poor form for me to hide in someone else's property during the night? Should I just carry the equipment to build a hut real quick or are sleepovers ok?
If you can find the place on the Server map you can link it here...
As long as someone lets you it's fine to stay the night in someone else's house that said there are a few public buildings on the server and i think there's a safe house at the spawn for people to use...
Well the City of Ghost's railway is now up. Only two stations at the moment, one for the main section and a second for the industrial area though that's just a walled area with a train station in it at the moment.
Ok the dakka server disconnected me, and when I tried to log back on it looked like I was falling off the edge of the world or something, I can see a wee yellow dot fading away above me...help?
I'm just going to leave it for a while and hopefully it'll sort itself out...
