Just so everyone knows, I died in the end and all of my stuff that I dropped is up for grabs. I'm far too lazy to run from base to spawn. There is a diamond sword, pick and shovel there.
Technic 7 is so fun! Yes, there is no forestry, but Thaumcraft 2 makes up for it, and you can use Computercraft to do similar things Oh, and I don't know what mod adds them, but pneumatic generators are great, Free Energeez (in the case of a RS engine, 5 energeez per 2 seconds, if my memeory serves correct)
Its kind of interesting, You have to make the actual silo and missile have a warm-up range to tilt to fire (so it's an actual ballistic trajectory) rather than straight to target or straight up and down.
The beef was raw, so it must have been a mob or player. No mobs I know of attack cows, so that makes it a player. If it was anyone, it doesn't matter, but I now need another cow... I'm only 500 blocks from spawn, so it'll be easy to make a deal.

So I'm walking along, talking toDark and Gangsta, I open the door that links my nether tunnel to the main system and all of a sudden...
...a happy ghast is happy to try and kill me, as you can see I don't have a proper weapon, but lukily somebody had dug a tunnel stright through mine so I escaped down that.
Edit: just killed it with a stick, but it got my door in the process, WANTED: redstone genius
So if no one has any objections Deity and I were thinking about building a giant gate/canal when he finishes the boat off of our island. We were thinking about using the land here:
darkinnit wrote: I think FlavorfulHades has claimed that village (and Hades also lives quite close to where GangstaMuffin wants to build the gate/canal).
That's why I asked if anyone would mind. Also, I don't know who owns the half-finished church on the other side.
Mel, let me know where I can leave that stuff you wanted to trade for.
I was going to build the two up into one larger town, but got bored of the desert biome and found another somewhere else. They have signs, but don't show up on the map. The bottom one there has a smoothstone generator I built to try and build up the town with; it built that wall. No idea if there are villagers at either, but they're natural villages and Dark mentioned he'd kick them off again if they were empty. Also close enough that once it's up we can take villagers from it as well.
Who owns http://www.darkinnit.com/dakkamap/#/-483/64/-2526/max/0/0 I'm currently building in the swamp nearby (the top left) and I'm planning on doing some terraforming to disconnect my swamp from the other land and expand it a bit.
Assuming the person who owns this is ok with this.

Sure, I'll take those two Though my walls won't be as high as the one you started, and they're gonna be stonebrick. If we can link them up and turn it in to one single huge village, the more the merrier. Although I might end up separating it in to four separate quarters in order to minimize the damage done by any zombie infestation, given the upcoming update.

Hey 4oursword the storming of cathedral is the name for the dakka multiplayer adventure map....all we need now is stuff to put in it. I.e parcour (did I say that right?) redstone piston traps and the classic abandoned village of death.
Oh that's mine, it connects to a Blaze spawner. Yeah, its fugly, but it was just there to serve as a place to hold some snow golems for anyone wanting to fight them.
Build around there as you like, the Portal comes up right by the Dwarven City nether side.
Hey blapblapblap can I use the name attack of the stiltons for the dakka multiplayer adventure map? (I was thinking blazes as the stiltons as they are yellow and a hostile mob)
I also take offence. The villainous Gouda Legionnaires are massing for a strike against Cathedral City, and their infamous General Yarg is leading the attack himself. While in their base, you uncover a terrifying truth which leads you to question your very existence, and as time begins to ferment, you realize nothing is as it seems...

I don't see why not, I'll draw up some rules. I think I'll need a lot of End Stone, that stuff's basically cheese.
And I demand that I may or may not be George Lucas.
Attack of The Stiltons, while a decent name, isn't really the kind of painfully unfunny puns I usually use. In case anyone hasn't clicked yet: http://www.cathedralcity.co.uk/

yes, it is actually. I converted the 1st floor into a hotel, almost. I was bored, and had no idea what to fill it with. It is on my server. That and the walls and beams of the ENTIRE THING took me 3 HOURS. Using creative. If that is what builds are like, I shall never attempt one again.
My cocoa bean farm doesn't work on multiplayer, might have to go for a water desgined one. Perhaps bud switching a blade of water to knock one sides cocoa beans off.
But if it stops after one pod I will have to pulse it 6 times :/
I just got the jailcraft texture pack and the nether is rubbish with that texture pack apart from zombie pigmen as they have bloody swords. And it gives you a hover-bed and barred doors as iron doors and zombies are dressed up as prisoners.

I'd happily help build helm's deep, but the size of the valley we'd need is huge...
Spoiler:
considering the deeping wall is about 6 metres high (6 blocks), comparatively, the hornburg would be about 60 blocks and, if we want it to be smaller than the valley it's in, it'd have to be about 70 blocks deep and the main castle would be maybe 50 wide.
basically, downscaling the wall's length and the valley's height, we'd need the valley to be around 100 wide by 70 high.
Anyone got too much sand? Who needs to terraform when TNT can do it for use. I carved out a ravine using pillars of TNT. The result was a quite rugged (but quite passable) ravine. If we're doing a build, count me in. I know what I said before, but...
And if we're going to make Anor Londo I suggest we start prospectin' for gold...

Who removed the Blaze spawner at -61, -323 in the nether? Apparently it was there yesterday and now its gone. I don't recall there being holes everywhere in that area either. =/

I think someone mentioned something about being lost around there yesterday. Not sure. :/
=/ There's a random hole in one of the walls which I had to fill in, and a bunch of holes in the (bricked in) area around the spawner. If they were lost then why break through both those areas when there's a clear path back to spawn, or at least an obvious nether portal nearby?

We can only speculate until someone comes forward. FM_Ninja and I also noticed a good bit of reckless digging near our respective nether portals. It's probably not the same person, but it seems that some people aren't as respectful of property when it comes to the nether.
Is this a good place for helms deep? http://www.darkinnit.com/dakkamap/ all it needs is a bit of terraforming. and also I noticed the spawner had gone when I went to get a blaze rod.

What was mentioned was that I spawned through the portal there and was attack by blazes. I didn't see a spawner nor break one though, just saw some blazes come out.
Since they despawn it would've been done recently as in one day recent.
If you want more details just message me as dark will have to check the logs or just put a replacement spawner in since they're so rare and valuable.

I accidently destroyed the spawner as I was mining one piece of nether brick (the area around the spawner was already like that) and my mother distracted me and my mouse must of moved and I accidently mined out the spawner. Ork you're a blunt pencil, the area was mostly cornered off meaning you had made a choice to go into the spawner, now why would you mine a nether brick so close to the spawner.
Dark please could you replace the spawner, the blaze rods are really helpful and with Wyrm's permission I will help build a blaze spawner that auto-kills them and gets you the loot.
Since we have such a good exp farm in the end there's no point other than for the drops.

I already replaced the spawner last night. InquisitorVaron, because this meant rolling back those chunks in the nether, you may have to rebuild the netherside stuff you were working on yesterday. I'll give you some stone brick for whatever's missing.
Orkdestroyer1 it was walled in, you choose to go in there and have the Blazes attack you. I've no idea what your on about mining netherbrick (and if you were, why do it near a place that has signs saying "Blazes" everywhere?), as all I know was that the spawner was full of holes, as was there holes where someone had broken into the fortress nearby too. Yes, it is a deathtrap, that's why I haven't been bothered to turn it into a grinder yet. Me and Janje2 spent an hour bricking it up before calling it a day (thus why, youknow, warning signs). If you died there then its your own fault for being inquisitive around the second strongest mob in the game... =P

we already have moria, lothlorien (I think?), and we had mondonia (which to me was just mordor with less spikes)...

But yeah, Minis Tirith would be too big, and a little iffy in that the details would be lost unless we made it huge. Helms Deep is just a big stone fortress in comparison. =P

Sandstone or white wool maybe?
Also I think it would still look cool if you used smooth stone.
Minas Tirith has seven layer and each layer has to have buildings, roads, alleyways of various sizes to make it look convincing, aswell as a big, big hill behind it.
I got my BDcraft since its the server tp of gleecraft on wich I play, and copied it from the temptp's to the normal tp folder.
Above the crafting menu, it does say 'gleecraft though'
"this is minas tirith, the last line of defence against the forces of evil. The walls are made of metre-thick... wool."
Mount doom sounds a bit meh TBH.
castles like barad-dur and helm's deep you can live in and play PvP and whatnot- mount doom would just be hollowing out a mountain and sticking a bunch of lava in and around it.
though building the black gates/barad dur would be about as annoying as minas tirith- the only thing I can think of building it out of is obsidian.

Well not entirely, there's much more detail that could be added but point taken.
The black gates would be a pain, but wool could be used.

for the shire, we already have brandywine (though it's really just a hall in a hill surrounded by regular houses)... though the shire would be nice and fairly simple to build, in that it really won't require much planning apart from "build/terraform a bunch of hills, build houses in"...
as for a unique individual city and suburbia lacking unity, that's kind of a contradiction in terms- wanting a city to be individual and unified.
unless you mean the whole city to be individual (being original) with each house being unified, but IMO everyone having similar houses is just boring. That's why I liked dakkatown- yes it was an ugly mess of a place, but it was OUR ugly mess of a place- there wasn't another place like it because everyone built whatever the hell they wanted- each house was unique. It's just a shame there weren't more aesthetic places like yak's and less ugly ones like the cobble towers...
Shrug. You'll never get a large number of people to agree on one aesthetic. Suburbia is set up in a way that we are all one unified community while also allowing as much creativity as makes sense within the confines of the community. Thus, it allows for a lot of different people with different aesthetics. And in the end, I think it actually works rather well together, barring a few exceptions-- each house having its own unique style is what makes it work.
If you want one town with one unified aesthetic... good luck getting a good number of the server to agree on THAT.

Isengard is at least just a big black tower surrounded by a couple of trees and a wall/a big black tower surrounded by huge cave systems full of lava (and a creeper infested hellhole). Cirith Ungol was where the Necromancer retreated right? Just a big black square tower in the middle of a dead forest. ...Lots of big black and big white towers in this thread.
I don't think so, I think that was another fortress that I forget the name of. Cirith Ungol is where Grishnak takes Frodo, and the 'Not if I stick you first' line takes place.
Everything is so sexual in my eyes this morning...
shrike wrote: point- that's what mostly put me off helm's deep. Osgiliath would just need a relatively flat area by a river.
plus, as said, being white is less of a deal there:
Spoiler:
smoothstone or stone brick could pass. Plus mossy and cracked stone brick would work quite well to help break it up a bit...
the thing is, getting the "ruined" look right- quite often, ruins look too artificial.
My solution to that is I make several obsidian explosives caps then detonate them. It looks as if the place has been shot with cannons or something. It passes for general ruins as well.

What I am trying to say is; if we're going to do a project on a huge scale, there are 2 things that are near mandatory for it. Creative, and worldedit.
All the other projects have been done without worldedit...
I don't really like the idea of spending hours building a massive city, to then have it blasted apart with tnt.
I think Minith Tirith could defintely work despite all the whiteness. Wool, stone bricks, cracked stone bricks, stone etc and the first wall would be black.
That sounds more realistic Mellisia. A little small though as far as I understand, though then again its representation in the game The Third Age was alright.
Would it be a accurate (enough) reconstruction, or would people be open to say adding their own houses (in the same style) amongst the existing ones, or perhaps as a side district? Youknow, just incase interest wavers a bit or whatever. =P
Also, Minecraft server is working...but the login function is down. .......
Also, this is still larger than I think a lot of you are realizing. See those houses in the image? All the 'little' ones? Those are each about the size of half a Suburbia plot.
If you're interested in Minecraft Middle Earth, well...
Check out Minecraft Middle Earth. Google that. I'll wait, and catch your teeth when your jaws drop to the floor.
they seem to be darker the higher up they are, which I suppose makes sense seeing as I'd guess the houses would start at the top of the hill and as the population increased, more houses were built lower down, so the older (higher up) ones would be darker.
After some research and playing around in creative mode, building the Hall of Meduseld requires an area of around 50 by 75 blocks, in order to retain some semblance to the design from the movies. Really not a hard build so long as the base is built first on a hill. The rest of the homes could be built on a personal preference basis and then the curtain wall built around that.
hmm, looks good...
we'll have to do a bit of terraforming to make the hill less L-shaped and more rounded, but other than that, a plausible location. I don't know how big meduseld would be by comparison, though...
He has a specific seed he wants to use. That and building an adventure map in survival is really, really boring.

You usually get that when the Minecraft servers are down (I think they were earlier, but are all back now).
No, connection time out is a much more vague error. It could be a problem with your connection, or the server you are trying to connect to could be down, or a firewall at either end might be blocking you.
Tyranid Horde's error is very specific:
Failed to login: java.net.UnknownHostException: session.minecraft.net
I've underlined the important bits - it indicates a problem with Minecraft servers.
