Thanks guys! After I sponged on Charadon granite, I painted the insides of the scrapes with Vallejo Parasite Brown (like GW vermin brown I think), and then brushed in rusty brown weathering powders wherever sitting or running water would cause rust. I then touched up some of the scrapes with more charadon granite in spots
No I don't use the FW powders, these are Doc O'Briens weathering powders from MicroMark (cheapest I have found)

I plan on a riveted glass frame, with broken glass, because the machine has been looted long ago.
Automatically Appended Next Post: @ Vik - Do you still have that picture of a box of some snack food called rivets?

Let me be the first one to say amazing job I did not believe for one minute you would make it dude that is fething awesome ……… the springs and the looted coin dispenser just classic now build a destroyed phone booth ……….. And I want a discarded kitchen sink
to be honest, this will make every terrain piece so much better looking of yours... with things like this your terrain gets the sparkle...or at least the stain of life!
The new adds are brill really impressed with this the back as well now that is dedication friggin awesome cant wait to see this with paint love the small pins as the pulls that is just cool …………….
Vik the dog one is my favourite that is so hive-world as if I know what the hell that means but looks the dogs …….
lol....probably it just means that any doggy is food^^
lol dave stumbled on her a couplpe of times during my wife... made even my own motiovational pic for my wife once... that femme is just the essence of 40k hive resitance!
by the way...forgott to say that the grill on the back is just like the icing of the cake!!!
Yes I like dogs but I don't think you could eat a whole one well maybe a smallish one I suppose …… boiled dog now thats just fethed up have you ever smelt wet dog they stink ………...
As for the poster, now if that is a woman of the resistance hell I would hate to see the men …….
Automatically Appended Next Post: I have 2 scottish terriers trust me with Jack you cant tell which end stinks the worse he has bad breath and wind a real charmer now would you want to eat that no matter how hungry you are I don't think so ……….
Dave the back of the vending machine is great love the use of the wire mesh really gives it that refrigerated look ……. That is my new project now you have inspired me to build an ork using a fridge as body armour sweet ……….. and a pan as a helmet cool ……..
ACE, your best piece so far! No, I'm 100% serious, it has so much character, I'm in love.
Would also make a great loot marker for a game of scavenger, so don't glue it in place.
Meh, The hardest thing I find to do is quit dicking with it and let the washes dry, so I will go to bed. I will wait until tomorrow to further my diabolical plans like sharpening up the trim somehow, and masking a white stripe diagonally on each side, and wrapping around the front between the puller knobs and the drop basket. I figure the orange and white can be made suitably grungy looking. Maybe "SNACKS" or some other words written inside the white stripe?
I agree washes suck majorly, thats why a radiator nearby always helps!
Yeah the stripe sounds cool, heavy weathering ofc. Snacks could be cool, but i think a more munda related word would be more fittigng, cant think of a suitable one though atm.
I love it! But I think you should take the rivet poster ,scale it down and apply it to the machine. I did it for my Valkyrie interior , mocked up pin up girl posters!
Yes I have seen this and was thinking of the name of the drink but could not remember the drink name or the film name Got stop drinking this Brawndo stuff it makes you eerrrrrrrrrrrrrmmmmmmmmmm what

Great work Dave cant wait to see the stripe added this is getting better by each post NOW GET OUT OF BED AND FINISH IT !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
I love it! You should make a whole pile of stuff like this to represent loot markers! A few ideas come to mind: a wrecked (just undrivable, not exploded) two seater civilian vehicle with a trunk (or boot, whatever), a dead ganger with a briefcase, an ATM, a small motorized bike or trike with some sort of storage, a stack of crates, etc.
I like the drink can ideas, but this is not a drink vending machine, hence the springy bits inside that rotate and drop a candy bar or bag of chips.
@Rawson - some good ideas there man, but I already have a bunch of painted up cargo crate pieces done I have a fetish for boxes and crates, always HAVE to buy resin sets when I see them.
Hahaha yep Capn, that it is!
I always appreciate ALL you guys stopping by and commenting! Seriously!
This side turned out well
The front was a bitch to mask over the pullers, so it is too wide-will have to fix with the brush.
I shouldve just taken them off- I still may do that, then reglue them once all painting is done
This side had a lot of bleeding, more manual brushwork, no big deal.
Turned out well on the sides but the front needs a touch up and the blasted section could do with a little white to bring the line round to match………. but so far so good
Yeah LDD, these pics are freshly after I peeled the tape off I need something to burnish the tape. I probably have a tool for it, I just don't know which works best. I used the flat end of a bamboo skewer here - it is apparently not so effective at the job
wow...what a sharp piece you´ve created...man...family and hobby work kept me from being online...boy have i a feeling of having missed out on so much fun...! to be honest it was two pages full of new stuff... i seldom have more than 5 to ten posts to read through in this thread... i try to stay on top of the tide...now that...where can i put my head in shame^^
that vendor machine seems to have hatched into a total beauty! tho i have to say...will this boxy beau be based?^^ if so i would love to see some carelessly left packages of that MRE stuff you showed a page ago...
also to make it a bit more worthwhile as an objective marker you should try to make some of said packages to be put inside...to make it an atracktive target for obvious reason^^
somehow...i have to say it...the writing of snacks does look good...but it doesn´t fit for me the bill... that vendor machine more looks like a true suply station...maybe something as formal as "nutritions" or "rations" would have been better?
but i do like the paintjob/scheme...that is rather a cool homage on the big vendor machines from coke and the likes! even if it is for food^^
also i like the idea of a ruined and stained sofa...those springs look like they should be used more often in some ideas of yours...
Your terrain is getting mighty impressive dude, that collection of pics literally could've been in the munda rulebook. Id say youve very much managed to achieve your goal of recreating the card terrain, not that that means you can stop, you dont have enough to fill a table yet!

Dude! You have NO FRIGGIN IDEA how happy you just made me by saying that Thank you man!
This is my inspiration:

Dude, i hate to say it, due to nostalgia etc, but the gw studio stuff pales in comparison to yours! I dunno, maybe i just have a fetish for rust, chipping and weathering!
Though I'd love to see a Brawndo vending machine out there as well.. haha kidding. Maybe just a sign on the wall or something... Everything is awesome!

Great work and blends so well with your terrain, the Ratskins look great in the shot as well ……… You could always add an LED to the next vending machine and make the bulb flash on and off
so dave, when do you quit posting white dwarf pics and start posting your own terrain pieces? lol...that is amazing... the machine alone looks stunning...and fully deserves to be made into a new avatar... seeing your stuff in the making and then finished i feel years behind in expierience! thank the lords that i can be taught some things due to this thread!
but in the spirit of: the king is dead...long live the king...

I registered in the summer, just mostly lurking around for inspiration and updating my own blog once a month.
My orks are definitely looting that awesome vending machine idea! Why orks? Who else would build a vending machine in a jungle? what about some old rocket launching facility? with all those big screens and stuff... a big and of course brutally looted launching pad...all crumbled and torn apart by scavangers... i see lots of ripped and torn cables...i mean that is what evry major video game has as a setting^^...

For all you rivet-heads out there. I found these listed on eBay, they are buy it now with reasonable shipping.
$8.99 for a set of 6 bulkheads with $1.90 shipping. Bulkheads usually go for around $2-3.25 each nowadays if you are looking for a bunch now is the time.
Amazing work. Those pics of the rat skinz in your terrain are incredible. They fit right in with the old pics, as you showed in that last post of inspiration pics. The vending machine is fantastic. I love the "coin slot" section is ripped out. Also, great use of unaltered nails! Damn, they are perfect. Way to get it right on all accounts.
Your collection is shaping up quite nicely, a few dozen more buildings and I'd say you had enough
THanks! Oooh- I'd better check my funds quickly! (see below where my pennies went today) good price! Thanks Unicorn
Green, I love hearing that from you man! Thank you!
Vik and Rawson- That is the Departmento Munitorum yard where the raw supplies are gathered and sorted for construction. I never got all that styrene from the uber-drop sorted out yet
Michael's had a one-day only coupon for 25% off my entire supply drop!
Airbrush holder, extra 10' of air hose (I desperately NEEDED these), bottles, adaptors, pre-thinned paint (I have not the balls to thin my own yet until I get the feel for it)
I especially like this adapter, just shake, screw..
...Load and go!
Run two color-cups of windex and then some clean water through the airbrush, rinse the adapter, and cleanup is done.
i really like seeing you getting more confident and tooled up for more airbrush action...that will bring your painting up to speed... also i think that is the real way of making terrain painted ...after all i think your main fun is in the construction...so quicker paint=back to the construction desk^^

EXACTLY Vik!!
I am making mistakes, but learning from them.
See the brighter blue run on the front support? I got a little too overzealous there ..Being able to confidently clean the airbrush makes it a tool you want to play with more -I think that is it for me, time shall tell.
so how many coats and how fast can you aply anyhow till you have a desired painted effect?
and yep...learning by doing...otherwise i would be talking to you anyways... no one showed me how to do computers, internet or painting....seems i have to learn everything on trial...same with cooking by the way... and i got quite good in that^^
and lol...thank god i don´t get translated...and your version of that is so totally wrong...^^ you can´t use the action in the same way as the participant of said action...but i did get your meaning^^ actualy yep...i had that as an example in my mind too...but was too modest to hint on that^^ ...tho modesty is seldom my resort^^
Thanks PDH! I can't wait to play a game on it...someday
Here I attempt to be more precise. This will take some getting used to, but I was giddy like a school girl when I finally found the "sweet spot" on the trigger to make smaller lines.
Thanks Rogue- I just picked up that color on a whim.
Here I drybrushed with P3 Cold Steel- it's like Blued gunnmetal.

I think this nice, long, productive weekend has been some sort of milestone for me hobby-wise. I am feeling pretty good about this.
Looking good! I'm digging the tips and chatter about your experiences with the airbrush. I'm looking to get one myself soon and so this is helping me to get a better idea.
I love the terrain and the vending machine..
Though the badger paints have me thinking of.. Badger, Badger, Badger...etc. an internet meme/video on youtube.
so mate, you are now on touchup level with that airbrush??? how cool is that...you are running in your progress now...congratz mate...sky is the limit now...when you feel that confident...when will you start painting something far smaller than a terrain piece? tank...or if you are most daring a mini? some simple thing like a nid could work for starters...
the link you gave instantly went into my favorite list...i think i have to later on digest that site for any further tips...went to the page about embossing and i think that guy has some nice tricks up his sleeve...
by the way...the tower now looks very neat... so will you try to use a wash with the airbrush? would like to see how this could work...or is that the wrong medium of paint for this methode? dunno...airbrushes are still a mystery...
Yes, I plan on trying the wash with the airbrush tonight on all the recessed panel lines and rivets. I will probably spray the wash on the bulkheads too. Washes are ok, because they are thin, I'm just not sure about metallic paints, from what I read I need to switch to the larger nozzle for metallics. More research is needed there.
I am using a Badger Model 150 bottom feed, dual action, internal mix airbrush. I paid just over $90 for the deluxe set over a year ago. My first airbrush was a Paasche VL that I acquired secondhand, the needle was bent and it wasn't cleaned properly, and never worked right-so that is probably the source of my anxiety and fear.
I think I am figuring it out, but the manual is convoluted IMHO, It gives you the instructions to "turn the adjusting screw", so you flip back to the parts diagram- it lists a part# "50-0432 Adjusting screw" but look at the diagram- that number is not listed at all. And there is no part at all in front of the trigger on my airbrush!
And the diagram shows part#s starting with 51-xxx, but no 51-xxx part numbers are in the list!
Sort of frustrating.
Six pages....That is what I had to skim through this morning! Good grief man!
LOVE the vending machine! I lol'ed! You need some snack packets made? I could do that I think! I'll look into it!
The weathering on the round tower is very Nice! I really like it!
I have the same aribrush! Well, mine's a bit older...I got mine in 1990 or so. But it's the same model, and it still works! I have found though that the top feeds are SOOOO much easier! But the bottom feed works too! You just seem to waste less paint when switching colors with the top feed.
I too did some airbrush work this weekend! I don't have pics yet though, but I base painted my first Rhino since 1995! I think it's looking pretty good, I'll get some pics up soon.
oh that is creepy... the manual is kind of fighting a secret war against you... but since you did so well already i think there is no need to second guess your work...
besides... i would rather use brushes for metal any time... somehow i think this is better done that way than airbrushed on...also... all the users seem to make then NMM instead of using metal colors...maybe there is your solution...
and at jake...that sounds like a good idea done by you^^
as for the adjusting...the only way i could think of doing that would be at the tip ...i am thinking waterhose right now... do you have such a thing..or remeber them of old days... you jst screwed the tip or unscrewed it and you either got a hard stream or that fine spray sprinkle...well that is my layman opinion...^^
Yeah, you're right Vik..See, I think it's the damn poorly-written manual making me think I can do something I can't. I dunno- I sent Badger an email with those pics, let's see how their customer service is.
Yes Jake, Thanks for stopping by and commenting man, I appreciate it, as always!
back in the days at the university one of my profs would let us do a manual for a term grade... well let me just say i refused to follow that option and i did a presentation about something i have long forgotten^^ manuals are a deed of the devil...
One of the universal rules of happiness is: always be wary of any helpful item that weighs less than its operating manual.

@ El Vic, What suggestion? The Food Packets? I think that would be awesome! Some MRE types, and maybe some junk food! Although, I'll just do the packets, Dave can do the painting.
Dave - I have never used the screw, because I find that I don't get the same dispersal consitantly at the same pressure for long anyway, something alwasy gets clogged or something, but I haven't tried to make fine lines either. My hand is not that steady. For lines I would just do the masking tape method. I hear there is some tape/film out there that is not very sticky, but still holds to the surface well enough to do the job. I need to find that stuff. I'm always afraid of ripping off the paint of the previous layer. If I have to use the blue tape for masking, I unstick it by putting my fingers on the sticky part for a minute or so...that's sounds dirty...and then putting it down, and running an eraser or something similar along the edge to reduce seepage.
And yes, it looks like either you have a model that is newer than the manual, or there is something wrong with your brush...I'd bet on the former.
That manual actually shows my older model, with the tapered back of the handle. Unlike the squared off handle of the one you have. Just an old manual I'd bet.
Yep, thai is what I am thinking too Jake. No wonder nobody buys American Made stuff anymore LOL. I kid, it works just fine, I was just thinking there was some secret fine tuning gizmo that was hiding from me. I also noticed the handle shape. Googling Badger 150 shows pics of both versions.
RSJake@ the tape I think you mean is made by Tamiya it's a masking tape but very low tac so does not damage your paint underneath it is designed for this purpose but I am sure there will be other manufacturers.
There is also a liquid masking solution as well you can get which i have seen used and mentioned before which is supposed to be rather good.
Thanks for the pic of the airbrush and the instructions seemed to be designed by morons read them once stick them in the draw with all those year guarantee and never look open them again
Yep, I use Tamiya 10mm tape, AND the cheap blue stuff for house trim. If you let the paint beneath dry, you do not need to worry about it pulling up the paint below. It is Easier than it sounds.
I don't think I'll ever apply washes by hand ever again!
The airbrush is much better.
Successive washes of black wash and brown ink.
But Wait! There's more!
The paper blender seems to be working great at burnishing the tape down, it really gets it into the cracks But this is the LAST of my 10mm tape, I'm Out!
and now we wait while until the high-tech, patent-pending, turbofan Warp Speed drying system dries it Juuuust enough, but not too much.....

I am pleasantly surprised! There is a little bleed through, but that was my fault, I was holding the airbrush at an angle that sprayed it under- I should've kept it parallel and painted over the tape, not under. And of course, the huge black overspray diamonds in the middle... oops!
Mind = Boggled and blown away by the awesomeness of this technique! This is awesome, your skills with the airbrush seem to be improving at a fast rate!

Thanks again Rogue! Color choice is usually the hardest part for me, but this one just sort of worked out well. The weathering will be a bit less on this one, I really want to recreate the rust just beginning to spread from the panel lines similar to the original artwork for this tower.

Yeah, but it needs to be some long-forgotten tech that was once actually used in the city. Imagine them building a dome over a ground-level city of today, then they keep building on top of that, over and over and over. If it crash landed there, it would have had to crash thousands of years ago with no one ever noticing it was there for thousands of years. Inquisitors would have made damn sure ANY Xenos tech was removed looong ago. These are good ideas on their own, and would make great modeling projects, but they don't really fit into the underhive setting. It's kind of like the old rule of thumb for a Halloween costume "If it requires explaining, it isn't that good of a costume" you know what I mean?
I could write fluff explaining WHY there is an 8-story yellow bannana building in the underhive, but people are mostly going to look at it and say WTF?

It's kind of like the old rule of thumb for a Halloween costume "If it requires explaining, it isn't that good of a costume" you know what I mean?
I could write fluff explaining WHY there is an 8-story yellow bannana building in the underhive, but people are mostly going to look at it and say WTF?
lol...but that halloween rule is sure what you should stick with... that is very sound reasoning...
but the cryo thinggummy sure is one heck of a close shave there... and you could gather lots of referrence pics from oh so many games...
but here is a new contestant... how about...:
a jetbike...everyone knows they are damn next to nonexistant nowadays... so a crashlanded one could be found...and this is awsomesauce all right... besides i doubt if the inquisition is THAT effective as you describe them...basically they are a bunch of flatfoots and brownnoses...and we all know how they can get sidetracked by a donut...
Yeah, I like the idea of a medical facility, lots of cool equipment possibilities there! I love the idea of a Jetbike too! But I think i'd rather have a jetbike gang a-la- The Hell's Angels, all hopped up on downhive drugs and just out to cause havoc!
now we are cooking with fire!... madmax meets the underhive... that would be classy... also it is done already... dunno where but one guy is making a biker gang for munda... i have it in my subded list...deep down somewhere... he doesn´t update so often...
as for archeotech... mostly you just take your average not needed toaster or printer and give him the sledgehammer treatment...the remaining bitz that can be put on to a base...=instant archeotech^^... but you make this a really tough nut now...hmmm... i would strongly like to make a good recomendadion for that...but somehow i only get the not really good ones from my mind... that is now a matter of personal creative honor...
ok one more try... what about a lathe? with some old weapons on racks and on the actual lathe? many options for a cool archeotech thingies to get salvaged? you could try yourselv with making some eldarlike guns for once...
oooh! Machine tools! now that interests me!
Elves just aren't an interest for me, unless the activity is killing them with Dwarfs Love a good grudgematch!
And yep Shas, I can definitely see gangs duking it out over some rare hover-tech for sure!
Holy Crap! when I got home today I had two packages of Dakka Karma!! It REALLY DOES come back around if you pay it forward- I COMPLETELY believe in it. And I am NOT a man of faith.
First, LDD is the MAN! He sent me these cool OOP Metal Catachans! I've never had any of these older flamers- I like them!
And then, Galorn suprised me with this big-ass box of his casted stuff! He even sent me a wall mold he made!
I cannot begin to explain how good it makes me feel to be a part of this EPIC community of hobbyists that we call Dakka! Sure, there are some on here that give all us geeks a bad name, but they generally don't hang out on the P&M Forums, for lack of talent on their own. But It makes me really feel glad to be counted amongst some true friends!
hmmm... these walls...do you have already plans for them? some of the parts looks really coo....well actually i cant see any that doesn´t qualify for coolness^^
and those catachans...lovley...yep...dakka is a cool place to be...i had my share of nice happenings in the mail too due to some frieds on dakka...as you fully well know...but other s did that too...and when i can i spring into action too...^^ it is always nice to do some helpful acts...
Automatically Appended Next Post: just checked his stuff out...again...i knew his work...but somehow never subscribed to his thread... cool guy...
He basically built his walls exactly like I built my walls for the 20mm Stalingrad and Euro village but he did it in 28mm and added rivets! They are perfectly universal for anything at all really. I don't have any definite plans yet, but boy is my imagination going wild sitting here looking at them!
Sweet I like the mould I have considered doing something like that myself I gather the sections are plaster can you let me know how well they bond together so I can work out if it is a viable idea
I have also heard that Iwata are good but have only ever seen one over here and went back to get it and the dam thing had gone
Seems you have got a few new scenery pieces to play with now then does that me we will see more updates
Glad you liked the new troops let the Karma flow

Yeah, I was about to say the same thing. That Asian housing complex would be tough to pull off scale wise and it would be huge. A "ghetto " style hab would be perfect!
When stationed in Germany years ago, I got to collect some Graphic Novels of the Judge dredd collection. That art conveyued a simultaneous sense of massive spaces with claustrophobia set in. Plus the massive authoritarian rule of the judges, the inspiration for the Adeptus Arbites.
As much as we all know I would probably attempt such nonsensical huge projects, the wall-o-tenements idea seems most usable as open-backed,table edge terrain peices, accessible from the outside table edge That means not too tall so you can lean over them and play.

Playability is a good thing to keep in mind! We have some sweet terrain at the FLGS, but (if placed on the table edge) is far too tall.
I liked the first hab picture you had up, though I imagine habs having smaller, more oppressing windows
for me that high skyscraper hive buildingstructure (phew...) would only make sense in building if you actually made a seperate table...just one big building...many storeys and a hell lot of work...the game would be rather like a 2D action shooter...like turrican ...supposed to be from left to right... a bit like snakes and ladders for 40k...
i think the best solution with these buitiful dentist plaster pieces is to do the same as galorn did...seperate buildings...
dsteingass wrote:Thanks Marty! Much appreciated my friend!
This is sort of how I envision the "Hab Stacks"
I Vote for that one, it's surely too big, but making it composed in more pieces can be the solution...4 or 5 floors for gaming and the rest just for demonstration...when you start playing you remove the "unneccessary" floors and keep the first 4-5 It will create a sort of illusion of "How tall is the building"...you don't need the rooftop to play XD
Seriously? This is the reason we quit buying Ford, Chevy, and a lot of other American-Made products!

I love this for a hive. Maybe just make a big flat side, that you can you for the edge of the game. Like those big buildings who is creating the edges in computer games. It's a big project though.
If you're going to post something like that first pic, then it's obvious that several of the guys following this are going to say 'That one. That's the way you need to go '
And I'm another
I was seeing it as more the far long edge of a table, with play going across the length, with the chance of high-up hi-jinks on the face of the hab. A few balconies, maybe a couple of rooms with wrecked walls/windows for access.
Or, and this has long been a dream table idea for me, have it going up the legs of the table - so most of the playing area is based on the roof of that hab-block. Obviously, there could be another block on top - see above
Pictures removed for space concerns (also redundant for me to post em again.)

Not a worry.. Takes around 24hrs for the RTV silicone to fully cure. get me the masters to make into molds... Heh.

poor poor dave, dont you know that this is what hitmen are for?
I thik mine is just a "general Purpose" tool.

Galorn's wall cast (nice rivets dood! )
Here was my foamcore master (20mm building facade)
And here is the casting
My uncle made this mold for me, he uses cheap DIY silicone rubber from a caulking tube, so that is probably why some of the brickwok detail has been lost, but it is my first creation ever reproduced, so I'm pretty fond of it
hey that with a few touch ups could work perfectly for 40k, if in the future you make some interesting molds ^like such, id be interested in buying some
Thanks man, but it is really too small for 40k, think closer to Hot Wheels or Matchbox car scale, 1/72=20mm (roughly- there is some play, just like 40k scale=28mm (roughly))
i would expect nothing less than that.... although you might have to replace the horse with my cat.. and then the hitman will have yet another target...(you)

It'll be perfect for Stalingrad ruins
If you would like I can make a mold for the stalingrad facade as well.
Thanks man, but sadly the master was damaged/destroyed when he pulled it out of the mold. Don't worry, I'll have plenty for ya bro!
-My uncle is an old-skool wargamer with a history of pirating sculpts so to speak He means well, and is my favorite gaming opponent in the whole world!
He got me hooked on gaming when I was 8 years old, this is the inagural game on the city table.
When we cast a lot of Hirst molds for my buddy in plaster of Paris we set up a drying rack next to the basement dehumidifier and kept a sheet tented over the setup To concentrate the effect. we eventually re-purposed someones jerky maker food dehydrator thingy to rack the pieces on. We found that we could demold rather quickly and let the parts finish drying out that way.

That must be cool having an uncle like that mine just made me paint fences not really the same thing I guess
I hate to say it but you have set yourself a challenge that you must at least try and you have only yourself to blame
You could just make a flat back section stick all the pieces together only using fronts and maybe a small edge either end and some kind of support to hold it at the back, you could even put some floors in as well that way it could be partially useable
hmmm....so the dark arts again...together tagteaming with rivetmaking...that seems you are now heading for world domination...hmmm seems we get e new emperor^^
well no one would have expected a 100% job out of the hat for the first time...but for the first try this looks really good... could you give it a lil wash so that we could better see how much was lost? or if it is still usable as a ruin? i mean it looks like it has seen quite some battledamage...so instanbt weathering oprtions!
if my old granddad would hev seen me making wargaming stuff he might have joined me...the old tinker that he was... too bad family has fallen apart way earlier and now the worms are feasting on him...but i think he would have liked all these options wargaming offers you...oposed for me to trainmodeling...as there you always try to rebuild the actual existing things...
The third pouring got a little too thick, I must've gotten over-confident and rushed the measuring. This ain't like cooking food, you have to measure the stuff precisely in a 2:1 permastone:water mix. Galorn's wall came out great, but my 20mm cast broke in several spots, because I didn't have enough to fil lall the voids.
Meh live and learn, it can always be used as rubble or destroyed sections. I won't be using the 20mm casts anytime soon, it just worked out best to mix up enough for both molds at a time. 2/3 cup permastone:1/3 cup cold water.
Speaking of Galorn, he has me hooked on this damn song
And because I like to share, whosoever clicks play will also get it stuck in their heads
LDD, I don't believe they do ship to the UK unfortunately, but surely there has to be a similar supplier that does?

Look back a few pages Max, all the WIPs for the Vending Machine are there. I think several of my readers unsubscribed when I let the OT crap last about 30 pages- my bad everybody, sorry.
But I know of a cheaper styrene sheet provider on the sheet styrene, maybe:
www.usplastics.com
You can get a 40"x72" sheet of .040 for $14.00. it comes in one sheet, though and is half the price for three quarters the amount. It boils down to whether or not you wanna be bothered to cut it up for storage and whether or not you ever need a sheet larger than 24"x24". Personally, I order the large sheet hack it up into squares for the shelve and go for a long time without buying.
Oooh, nice, I was looking for something as a loot counter. Gotta steal me that safe idea... but intact then Maybe a couple blown up to indicate the loot has been picked up
Safes are a great idea Vik! Especially the opportunity to make all the cook locking and turning bitz
So, tonight I braved the snow-covered roads and came back with a minor, but important supply drop.
2 10mm masking tape refills (hazard stripes are fun to paint!)
I also found some 6mm! Tamiya Masking tape (smaller hazard stripes!)
2 sheets of textured plasticard (O Gague dressing stone/block)
2 more airbrush paint bottles
I got to hold an Iwata professional grade DETAIL top-feed airbrush (the competition to the badger Renegade Krome I posted earlier) in my hand. It has a .3mm needle, just like the Badger, and It REALLY does just have that high-quality feel in your hand, the trigger feels like it is part of your finger, and when you touch it, you just KNOW it will do exactly what you want it to do. I think it is a psychic weapon of Slaneesh actually
I was VERY close to telling her to ring it up for me, but I waffled, the Badger is about $60 cheaper AND comes with 2 needles. The manual was mostly in Japanese, so it was worse than the Badger Model 150 manual.

Interesting note on that model 150 dstein - picked up this years Hobbys catalouge today, and among the airbrushes is the Badger 150 - shown with tat extra adjustment screw
Besides the tiny needle/nozzle-This is the feature that I need most, the needle limiter!
And the Badger comes in a weapons-grade case!
Including RIVETED hardware

Thanks for the link will check that out I am sure their must be some where in the UK thats does PC in large sheets but its finding them what kind of search do you think I should use in google to try tried some but come up blank
I like the bank vault idea build that and a washing machine you can ask Monkeytroll for one of his brass portholes with glazing as the front door part
That airbrush looks pretty nifty with the adjustable head must get one mine is ok for large are spraying and thats about it
Oh yeah! They are just kind of expensive. Whatever you do, don't go too cheap. I have heard that the neo by Iwata is the best china knock-off airbrush out there. And you can get parts at Hobby LObby. But if you go to Michaels'- do not question getting the Badger 150, the manual sucks, but it is a great General Purpose ab. The Badger renegade Krome that I ordererd is a detail ab, meant for very small lines. This must be why airbrush holders always hold 2- I guess it is pretty common for hobbyists and pros to have two abs.
Woot!
The snow has stopped, the sun is out, the roads are plowed. My GF and I have decided to take a ROAD TRIP today. The Grand Opening of the GW Store in Indianapolis, IN is today, and we are about to head out. I have only ever been to 1 real GW store before in Chicago, so this Grand Opening will be fun! I really want an Aquila flag
dave...with all that plasticcard goodness and skill that yoou have...and with the new aquired skills in airbrushing...AND with the masking tapes you now hold in your hands... you should really consider to built a tank from scratch and then give it a nice blocky urban camo scheme paintjob...i think this is a high oportunity...
and that rusty streak stuff...looks like it could be a true blessing...
and mate... i know your profession and that you americans are always sweating money...but hell...DINK aside...are ye really that rich to buy nearly every second day major stuff??? i am at awe...and no mistake!^^
HAHA, no Vik, not rich at all. No kids, the bills are all paid, and it helps that I have a gf who makes good $$ too. We don't go on crazy exotic vacations (only to games day and gencon), or drive expensive cars (my Kia and her 1986 jeep), or care to own a new home (we rent, it's cheap) or drink $5 Starbucks coffees like average Americans, or waste $5 on lottery cards. You of all people should know, I go to work, and I sit at my workbench and Dakka, and that is about it. We really only spend money on our hobbies, because that is how we enjoy life. Most couples have polar opposite interests, and so their money goes in different directions. Lauri and I are both geeks and best friends, and like a lot of the same things.
Like...dropping everything on a saturday and driving down to Indy for a GW grand opening! -That was HER idea btw
The place was packed! So we shopped, and got buttons and posters, and headed out
on the way of course, w had to stop at
Then we went to Jersey's - a diner that Guy Fieri visited on Diner's Drive-Ins, and Dives on TV
Great food, great day, great pile of goodies to show for it too.
That SHE bought me.
You are the first person ever to think I'm rich Vik, but with her around, I'd definitely say I'm Richer than most guys I know
lauri means in short... the golden one...well...^^
whenever i make a short trip to our next GW i find this shop packed with humans...well some at least^^ some others look like they are rejects of a ghost train ^^ so it is no wonder that you left soon... bnut that pic sure shows some nice stuff... and you are a brave man to try out some finecast stuff too...
the books look mighty delicious...and...
empire militia stuff???? i do smell something new in the woods....^^
and i swear to the gods... here in berlin we have one lego world... a rather smallish sideshow thingy... but a full lego shop... now is that any wonder that you are a brickhead? i think we can now fully well close that case...^^
(by the way.. i suspect that this is your GF on the first pic...you making the pic and she being the only visible women in the wider area...am i right... tell her she has nice hair... from what i have heard... women like these sort of compliments^^)
oh and you never told us what the specific hobby of your GF is... beside of course Lego...
HAHA, yep. That is her and she is definitely Golden!
She reads Black Library novels faster than anyone in the world, of course Lego, and plays MMOs (SW:TOR atm) I have started building her a Dwarf Army too, but she is nervous (but wanting) to learn how to paint.
This was the first GW and the first Lego stores in the entire State of Indiana- Still about 1.5 hour drive away from home tho. The Lego store is amazing Vik! Not only do they have all the exclusive sets, The entire back wall is the pick-a-brick bins, you buy a container and fill it up with whatever fits! $8 for a small, $14 for a large!
i only know two stores that do that in berlin... and i think we would be in for way more cash for the pick a brick deal...lego is such expensive stuff these days...
i should think she should start painting them... i can´t think of not following one of her threads here(if she would want to...) and beside... she would get me as a foillower...now how is that for starters?^^
and besides... you two would get a whole new dimension of partnership talking oportunities^^
She enjoyed the paint and take at Games Day. You see you need to let her ride that glorious memory of a fun painting experience, let it age like whiskey in an oak cask.
nawwww... just tell her i would love to see her painted stuff...^^ that´ll work^^
at maus...here on dakka we are a quite cosmopolite bunch... lots of brits, dutch, russians americans... peeps from south afrika... or doing service in other countries americans and some germans too...
It is such a nice thing to have a hobby friendly wife. My wife buys me legos and does not flip out about an entire basement dedicated to gaming. She does not play 40k but will play Necromunda and bloodbowl.
THis is how it USED to be for me:
her: "You're always down in the basement, you never want to spend time with me"
me: "ok, what do you want to do?
her: "nothing, forget it, I am pissed now, You'd rather spend time with your toys than me"
me: "yep"
I go to the basement, she either studies for her doctorate or plays skyrim. Probably also helps that she used to work for reaper minis running a retail store.
