He's not Chaos, he's just gone a little bit off the rails...
He's got trophies from every race I've played against (well, the ones my friends would trade or give me bits for. The 'Nid plates are Forge World Flying Tyrant painted in my brother's scheme, the Chaos spike rings from a friend's Chaos Undivided army and there's an Ork head hanging from his thruser housing and Ard Boy armour on his shoulder pauldrons.
I get bored...
My Daemonhunters...
Inquisitor in Terminator Armour
My first attempt at source lighting. I'll get better, promise...
My Fast Attack teleport-in Grey Knights. My justification 1) They have very baroque, ornate (and ancient) armour which has teleport homers built in and 2) I wanted to play with the Sang Guard models. I think they'll be much improved with some highlighting and freehand, this is just part one of the process...
Since these were shot, I've changed the weapons and they're now wreathed in lightning and I've addid Mithril Silver highlights to the armour and the gems are generally green jewels. Pics to come. Probably...

my only nitpick is that some areas just look a tad too flat- maybe some rivets or ork glyphs would cover it up?

Hair's from an Ork, head looks like it's from Eldar. Assault shield, Termie bolter, Blood Ravens assault pack?
Don't know the various Marine chapters to differentiate the legs, torso and pauldrons. But I think that the arm with the pike is most likely Fantasy, and the end of the pike itself looks like an Eldar weapon. And the cloak is from the Dark Angels?

If you need tall helms with tails I'd recommend the new plastic White Lions. You'll also get cool cloaks from them if you have the patience to clean them up so you can fit them on a SM.

So which ones did I get right?

Helm is from the silver helm sprue, bolter from the command squad box. Magazine is close enough with the DA sprue but I can't remember what terminator stormbolter I tore it off. Shield was already called off as assault squad sprue.
Thanks for the heads up on the helms, I like I like. Especially the first one has a one headed eagle looking forward just like the custodes helm art.

Cheers, I've never been a real fan of brightly painted marines. Whilst I can appreciate the fluff around the bright red Blood Angels, blue Ultramarines and yellow Imperial Fists I thought something more subtle and 'realistic' was in order. All my marines are that dark olive green colour. Scout Snipers are posed amidst dense foliage for effect. I like them, they're different enough. I just can't think up a name OR chapter icon - hence the blank shoulder pad.
The photo of this model was taken before I added detail - mud and battle damage. I also filed down the spikes on the wheels a little.
shrike wrote: Any chance of a tut/explanation of how you did it?
I cheated with this one .. and it was much easier than it looks. I bought a little rally car toy for $2.
1. Remove wings and sensor from bottom of landspeeder.
2. Remove wheels (with axle) from toy car and glue to speeder.
3. Remove suspension from toy car, fit and glue to landspeeder - this took some mucking around.
4. Paint.
carabine wrote: I gotta concur. I enjoy this model on wheels alot more than in the air.
Agreed. The landspeeder was getting left in the box every game so thought I'd make it an attack bike/buggy. Is completely legal and looks good on the table. The only downside is that it's slightly bigger than the attack bike model. BUT .. at least it gets used now.

Amusing. I thought Raptors were Chaos. I guess we learn something new every day. I'll think on this .. and do some more research on the Raptors.
Some of the images I saw have very similar paintjobs to my marines. Sweet.

I like that buggy. Those guys are almost exactly the same scheme as my marines, only mine have black shoulder guard trims (I am no good at photography, the colour is much more camo than in this picture, it looks like your main colour):
Since you said you had no idea what to call them or what symbol to use, feel free to do the same as me: they are called the Vindicators, have a red templar cross as their symbol, and they are DA successors, but don't hunt the fallen, ie follow standard codex organisation without raven- or deathwing. Would kinda be fun to be working on a DIY together. Mine are a mix of no-nonsense pragmatism and heraldic stuff, though, not sure whether that fits your idea.

the orks' answer to the storm raven, this is an early pic of Da Surly Burd. i decided to eschew the tail, and it is now covered in armor plates, and it has doors, an engine above the wings, and a fin on top of the engine. i am thinking of using some space marine backpacks to the wings, etc (thanks for the awesome idea, monkeytroll!).
btw, i am also working on a diorama of Don Quixote, a book from Spain during the Renaissance; i am doing the part where he jousts with the windmills (though i am only at chapter two, i have still heard of this part.) i will post that when i get to my camera, too.

On school buses, no, but to school in general, it depends on the planet. On Cadia, kids are taught to be soldiers from the time they could walk, and on Catachan, they're just trying to survive, and on most other planets they will most likely not get a formal education unless their parents are high-ranking aristocrats

Here is my most recent (still WIP obviously).
This was my first attempt at anything like this. To top it off, I don't have GS or have ever used it, so I just used some air dry clay (Maybe that wasn't a great Idea).
It was supposed to be a Dark angel Veteran. But the more I look at it, the more it looks like a Stalker from the S.T.A.L.K.E.R. game series. I don't play really play marines anymore so it really didn't matter to me if it turned out good or not. Obviously, it needs to be repainted. I am much better at painting now than I was when I painted these.
He's been busy rummaging around the zone looking for artifacts.
Here I feel is my best, not really a conversion but a scratch build. I don't even play IG, I just though it would be fun to make one.
Don't use air dry clay. It is a pain to work with when it is so thin.

The bus was a funny one.
Yes the bus itself is finished with the construction process, just need to get it and its passengers painted up, and what color would we paint something like this that is still Orky?
...
..
.
why, Bad Moons of course, so yeah the bus will be black and yellow, and will have " Los Orkales County School Systems" down the side, and the passengers are as one of the above stated, a bunch of Night Goblin conversions all carrying looted bolt pistols and bolters, they've been done up so that they can ride in the bus and fire out of the windows. i came up with an idea for a second set of passengers that will take some serious trading, and thats a bunch of 'Blood Bowl Orks'.
Imagine the look on your opponents face when you roll this thing to a stop in front of his marine squad and deploy a bunch of orks in football helmets and jerseys, if he doesn't piss himself from laughing so hard then he has no sense of humor and is a lost cause.
and since the bus is a current fave, here's the gallery link where you can see more pics of the bus, along with closeups of the different things it does, take note that in the shots where you can see the two orks in the turrest that the turrets keep facing different directions, this was done to show that they actually do turn 360 degrees.

I have been working on my World Eaters for quite some time. Most of the CSMs started out as regular Marines, and have been converted. My WIP thread is here, http://www.dakkadakka.com/dakkaforum/posts/list/338802.page if you're interested in seeing everything to date. Here are my current favorites:
CSM Havoc with Las Cannon, was originally just a vanilla heavy weapons marine.
and a converted Obliterator. Originally an old metal Chaos Terinator. I particularly like how the Plasma Cannon turned out.
I should be getting my new paints by mail in a week or so, then I need to get some paint on these guys and many more!

Thanks man! I really tried hard on that one. Man it was expensive. You wouldn't believe the kits I went through to make it. I guess I need to put him up in the gallery and see if anyone else likes him too!

oh don't worry, I will, but it's going to take awhile. i need hrs at work to improve, which they will do as we get closer to summer, then i need real life to stop blindsiding me with a blackjack. Then i should have the cash to do more conversions again, currently trying to figure a way to pay for some things i want here on Dakka, and then i have to get parts for a Battlefortress Conversion that i have in my head. I also need to finish up my Wave Serpent squad so that i have 6 of them. i just got the templates to build my own MegaNobz yesterday, so that will now go on the list of must do's along with a commisioned bus and finishing my fighta-bommer.

I'm not thrilled with the back end of that truck, to me it just doesn't match up with the front of the vehicle in a symmetrical way. yeah, I know, we're talking Orcs here, but even Orcs have some sense of symmetry. I'm thinking of ripping the back end off and replacing it with uge honkin' tires to give it more of the Tractor Pull idea, with a real slim area between the tires, or even have the rear bed stick out past the tires but have holes cut out of the bed so the tires stick through. Then i'll just take the back end and use it for another truck that looks more tank like.
please tell me what the rest of you think, leave it like it is and just orky it up more, or replace the back end with giant tires? here's the photo again to give you a better idea, and a tractor pull photo to compare, as well as a mockup image:
tractor pull?? trukk
actual tractor pull image
http://www.popecountyfair.org/images/tractorpull.jpg
with the way that the dozer blade, engine, then driver and then gunner all sit it's a straight line through the middle of the vehicle, much the same way that the actual tractor pull entry looks, until you reach the bed and that's where it loses it's symmetry. If I change it then i would roll cage in the driver and the gunner, then change the bed of the truck to accommodate the huge tires. Something like this:

it's pretty featureless no matter what side you look at from except for the front of the thing. the right side looks just like the left side, and the rear is just another plate dropped down over the popsicle stick tank treads. And i know i can get big A**ed tires cheap from Big Lots toy section.

It's 100% green stuff. No wires or anything else. Alot of dedication.

cook hell, his girlfriend has seen the fact that he plays with toy soldiers and doesn't earn a living from it, add to that that not only has she seen this, she sat down and highly modified one of the models in a masterfull way, then went out and bought a BANEBLADE to do the same thing with.

@Mad4Minis - Thanks There are some more WIPs in my Gallery. I've also got an on-going thread here charting my descent into Starcraft 2 themed madness The vast majority of it is a standard Sentinel kit with added leg armour from the old Guard tank sprue track guards. the main thing that has added the height is that I inverted the hips/waist/chassis and added a small rotation joint. Brings the cockpit back up into line with the legs, rather than looking quite so front heavy. @Diphranq - That is nice work on a metal mini

It's a good model though, pity it had to be based on such as ludicrous concept, but that's GW for you.

That's a good point though, my guy's sporting the skulls of 3 of his mount's relatives.
Thunderwolves as a concept are... well they make for some cool models I guess.

Thanks guys - The yellow is just Iyandan dark sun with a brown wash, and then another coat of iyandan dark sun to finish - no highlighting.
The Metal is just boltgun followed up with a badab blackwash.

as promised here's the pics of my new warbuggy conversion, it's much better than that crappy old model that GW is still trying to foist off on us.
please NOTE: this thing is NOT painted yet so the tribal markings on the tire guards will dissappear unless i can figure out a way to preserve them. at any rate this was surprisingly easy to do, took all of 2 nights to throw it together. Please tell me what you think and if you have any ideas to improve on the next two that i plan to build from in a similar fashion.

The only critiscism I can think of is maybe putting the gunner further forward or the pipes further back...as-is he can only shoot forwards.

Cutthroatcure wrote:How did you do the checkers?
Checkers are easy peasy.
Paint a strip of the model you want the checkers to appear on in atronomicon grey, then white, until you have a smooth coat.
Once this has been done using watered down black and a fine detail brush paint out a grid as fine as you can. Once this is done just paint in alternating squares until the checks are done.
Just requires a steady hand.

or just use a fine tip Sharpie pen to do the same thing, be aware though that you will have to paint the balck over the sharpie marker lines or it will bleed through like it did on my dire avengers rainbowed helmet crest, since it looked good that way i didn't mind, but with black and white checks it could bleed through the white making the white checks look smaller than the black ones.
The only critiscism I can think of is maybe putting the gunner further forward or the pipes further back...as-is he can only shoot forwards.
I agree, right now it looks like he had a deathgrip on the trigger at one point in the past and shot the hell out of the exhaust pipes. I tried to run the pipes back by the tires so they would stick up at an angle in the area where the gunner is but couldn't get it to work right, I'll try a little harder on the next two, especially since i don't want them to look as if they were assembled on a factory line.

Yup!
I bought the plastic kit and picked up this metal one for free (armless with only one pauldron). I didn't want to waste a perfectly good sculpt so I attached the spare plastic arms to it. Then I found they didn't quite fit so I had to GS muscle and mutated bits onto it.

I don't mean cheesy in a bad way. remember, I HATE space marines, I'm an Eldar stuck in a man's body, and i'm Eldar through and through, allthough the Ork Mechaniak peeks out a lot. To me a dreadnaught just begs for conversion and it's so easy to do, that's what makes it cheesy. for instance just now in writing this message a pic of an Ogre kingdoms Ogre Tyrant just popped into my head with the upper half mounted on the dreadnaught legs, and sporting a deff dred close combat claw arm and you have a warboss with cybork body. there's that ork Mechaniak poking around again.
seriously, that dreddeff is good work.
the Khorne techpriest is pretty spot on as well, but you have to do something with the end thingy on his back that attaches to his mechanic tool arm.

Thanks! The Servo-claw thing? Yeah I have to beef it up a bit. And looking at the pictures, I forgot to add spiky bits! So, thanks! I'll work on that, and get it painted!
And BTW, the Deff Dred is great! And as for the 1000 sons Termys, I don't know much about thier fluff, would they be automatons like the marines? Or sorcerers? Just curious. Great paint job!

I used them, I feel like the Halberds and Staff actually fit well with the Thousand Sons egyptian theme. Grey Knights and Thousand Sons are also similar in being mostly composed of Psykers. Since Thousand Sons prize knowledge so much the books on the armour seemed fitting.

LMAO, forgot the spiky bitz, i never even noticed the lack of spiky bitz till you mentioned it, and yeah the servo claw is what i meant, just couldn't think of it's name. after looking a little closer i can see a wire running from the bottom of the servo claw and into the backpack, but it's shadowed so it's hard to make out, and directly behind it's even harder to see. might i suggest that you run a wire from each of the notched areas on the attachment thingy down and into his backpack. make them with enough slack and they can also serve as a place to hang trophy kills as well.
