edit: hi, This place will hold all of my Nceromunda related things suspect terrain, models, batreps, etc,...
edit: pictures are in later posts, scroll down.
I started a necromunda campaign in our local gw (already 5 players) and after seeing some cool kroot models to represent a gang, I want to make some rules for them. something a la ratskin-ish. it's gonna be a bit different though, theres going to be more different types of gang members based upon the kroot merc list in chapter approved 2004. beforeget on with it i wanna know if this is gonna be a good idea, so tell me. I'm also going to need some advis how to realize this. I'm hoping you all will help me on this adventure.
edit: this thread will also contain all the rest what has to do with Necromunda, so stay tuned.
yeah.... but no. I realy want to make home rules for them.
Automatically Appended Next Post: first update: the classes
-Shaper(the leader) -Chosen (the heavy) -Carnivore ( the normal gangers) -Unblooded one ( the juves)
special types with special rules -Tracker (a sniper kroot, only he will get acces to the kroot hunting rifle) -Kroot hound handler (he is going to have the same rules as the cyber mastif as in the enforcers) -headhunter (something like The Predator in Aliens vs Predator
and maybe: -Kroot Vultures (the flying brothers of normal kroot!)
some classes are based upon the kroot merc list from chapter aproved 2004 wich you can download for free from the net
the costs of the gang members is going to be the same as with the others. As for the kroot only classes, i'm not sure i'm going to include them in a starter gang, it's better i think if they earn that name with the accompanying special rules by earning enough exp for those who don't remeber the usual costs -Shaper 120 credits -Warrior (or carnivore) 50 credits -Chosen 60 credits -Unblooded one 25 credits
to prove i'm serious with this adventure i painted up the first model( warrior or carnivore, wich was orrigianaly part of my Tau army) as a test model. I'll post a picture of him later this week.
Automatically Appended Next Post: anyways' got an update
kroot rifle cost 30 credits short range 0-12 long range 12-24 to hit long - to hit short - strength 4 damage 1 save mod. -1 ammo roll 4+
Kroot hunting rifle or long rifle costs 35 short range 0-12 long range 12-30 to hit long - to hit short - strength 4 damage 1 save mod. -1 ammo roll 4+
Those are the ones on the GW website.
There are others. (like Ork). try finding them and give them a read so you have more ideas. (EG how orks recruit)
well, as promised, some pictures of my test kroot and as a bonus all of my converted delaques ( don't have much, converting goes too slow, untill i have converted enough, i use fitting models)
Automatically Appended Next Post: c&c welcome
Automatically Appended Next Post: woooh! got overexcited and started painting up a second kroot.
special rules on the kroot rifle and the hunting rifle
kroot rifle: -blades: a kroot armed with a kroot rifle counts as having an extra knife in close combat
hunting rifle doesn't benefit from this.
special rules: playing with a kroot gang
-outlawed: when any gang of one of the six houses of necromunda captures a kroot ganger, they may choose to turn them in to the guilder. The ransom of a captured kroot is equal to the cost + exp of the kroot ganger(excluding his weapons. weapons go in the stash of the opposing gang. kroot only weapons count as destroyed because these weapons are seen as hot items. possession of alien weapons is illegal)
Kroot can only have 1 territory at a time. their starting territory is a settlement(because kroot live in family groups), and when offered a new territory, the may choose to abandon their old territory and use the new one. they can't have more than 1
-So many mouths to feed: any gang members who didn't work at the gangs territory or who did not search for rare items must go foraging each gang members earns an additional d6+1 credits. al gang members need 4 credits worth of food stuffs. after calculating your total income, you need to feed your gang(for example 10 gang members need 40 credits to feed). the rest of the money goes directly in to the gangs stash, it's simply the amount they earn.
-carnivores: kroot can choose to feed on captives. a captive is worth equal to -> victims strength x toughness x wounds.
-> after the last 2 rules any remaining credits goes directly in the gangs stash and can be used as you like.
here you go another update, now seriously, c&c wanted.
Hey Scrazza. I dig the kroot implementation into the Hive - a few points with your last post though.
I don't think the "rifle with a bayonet counts as a bayonet" rule will float with other players, solely because when you are fighting with the bayonet on your rifle it's a two hand job to hold the rifle and make stabbing strokes. If the rifle was jammed or out of commission it could be assumed that the kroot has shouldered the rifle and removed the bayonet and is running about with dual knives.
Convert the kroot weapons to weapons in the hive, this helps the people you play against (as I will change tactics based on the what weapons I am moving towards) and additionally people often sell captives so they can keep their stuff - and the fact that they cannot use a lasgun equivalent because it's not from the hive is sure to cause a frackus.
The territory idea means that a few games in you will start to go head to head with gangs that have much more capital than you (and sonsequently better toys) due to the fact they can run all their territories. If the kroot can be hired by the tau they understand the concept of commerce, and consequently extortion and trading aren't too far behind. The kroot gang should be able to run territories as any other gang, and perhaps have a few new alternatives such as "larder" instead of settlement, the larder is a trench where pit slaves bodies are thrown after losing their bouts in colleseums, and on a roll of 6 you get a new kroot juve who is birthed from the fleshy mass. (for the record, I know nothing of kroot or their geneaolgy I am thinking they are similar to "prawns" from district 9)
Same again for the "so many mouths to feed" rule, as this will cripple your ability to buy nice toys from rare trade and standard armory.
I'd stick with the core rules regarding post battle sequences, and don't be in a rush to submit a gang to outlawed rulesets - as there will be plenty of time for those rules once some snivelling bastard sooks and gets your gang outlawed. As for skills I'd branch of Escher - kroot seem to have the same sort of ferocity, agility and combat skills going on as the femme fatales.
I am looking forward to seeing a kroot heavy stubber. truly, I am.
Your initial kroots look quite promising, I'd suggest you look up ghosty as he is doing a similar project.
oke I agree about the outlawed rules, it would be more fun without being outlawed. and i also think it's a good idea letting them have 5 territories, i could make special kroot based territories.
I don't think the "rifle with a bayonet counts as a bayonet" rule will float with other players, solely because when you are fighting with the bayonet on your rifle it's a two hand job to hold the rifle and make stabbing strokes. If the rifle was jammed or out of commission it could be assumed that the kroot has shouldered the rifle and removed the bayonet and is running about with dual knives.
well, the tau codex has some rules about the kroot, one of them says that they gain an extra attack because of being armed with the kroot rifle( actualy they count as having an extra close combat weapon) ( well' i thought i read that in the tau codex, i could have read it elsewhere)
Convert the kroot weapons to weapons in the hive, this helps the people you play against (as I will change tactics based on the what weapons I am moving towards) and additionally people often sell captives so they can keep their stuff - and the fact that they cannot use a lasgun equivalent because it's not from the hive is sure to cause a frackus.
bacause the outlawed ideas are now in the garbage bin, the rules on selling captured kroot to the guilder and that thing about kroot only weapons are now ignored
the so many mouths to feed rules will be thrown away
but, i'm still going to make rules for a kroot gang, their simply to cool to be played as esher, they just need their own rules imo
Your initial kroots look quite promising, I'd suggest you look up ghosty as he is doing a similar project.
well, thanks, the pic is blurry though, i'll try to make a new pic, I already painted up a second kroot ,too
And i Checked Ghosties thread, looks cool.
I WILL make a kroot with a heavy stubber once, but first i'm going to make a kroot with a flamer, imo that's the most awesome conversion.
well as the new name says, everything that has to do with necromunda( this includes campaigns, terrain, pics of gangs, batreps etc...) first off is some background on the current campaign, we have 6 gangs, 3 Van Saar's ( I know, i Know) a cawdor, my delaque and another player who hasn't decided yet.

Wow that was a lot of typing , any changes will be eddited here, as im 'too lazy to type it multiple times, so check this regularly after each batrep. I wil post some batreps later on( played 3, won 3, whooohooo!)
Automatically Appended Next Post: so, what do you think?
Automatically Appended Next Post: oke so here is the 1st batrep, it's a while ago, but i will try to remember(fluff style)
gang fight
The Crooked Vultures reckoned that the Van Saar gang, the Fast Frankies, had a settlement too close to their borders, and so they went on and clashed with the Frankies for control for Bloodshot Town. Vakos, Iarol, Mar and Krew took up positions in an old ruin on the east, while Mak and the rest of the boys got ready to get down for a fight on the west side. fortunately and unfortunately the Vultures shooty part deployed against the fighty part of the frankies and my fighty part was up against his shooty part. It should be mentioned that the 2 parts of the town were divided by a road wich provided no cover. all the buildings were packed close together and so provided good cover
Frankies got the initiative, moved his fighty part towards the road. his heavy took some potshots but missed. i did the same, but my heavy didn't have a line of sight to anyone yet. before the fighting started we had to cross the road, which was a very bloody affair. His heavy was the only one who had hit something and scratched my leader( booo!), only losing his left ear, and got partially deafened, but still went out of action. My shooty parts were a bit more effective. Vakos gunning a juve down, and delivering a flesh wound to Franky (gang leader). Iarol also delivered a juve a flesh wound.
Third turn was bloody, too. after crossing the road, both sides prepared to get in close with each-others shooty parts. the Frankies in my side of town were still a 2 turns away, but my lads, now under the watchfull eye of Spark, the right hand of Mak, got ready to assault next turn. two juves tried to outflank the shooty Frankies, and Spark and the rest taking cover behind a statue. Vakos and the rest shot at the oncoming Frankies and Vakos managed to give another 2 flesh wounds to his gang leader, and Krew got him out of action. Mar downed a juve too. the remaining Frankies in my part of town, 2 juves and a ganger were cowering behind a now with bullet hole riddled wall. On Frank's side, a shotgun armed ganger shot at Markel of my outflanking juves and downed him( booooo!) and the other juve(Amsel) fled back towards cover.
fourth turn. Spark and the lads assaulted his boys. Spark taking out a ganger and Isaac taking down a lasgun ganger. Vakos and the rest continued shooting at the pinned Frankies, taking a downed ganger out of action. a Franky juve shot down Mar, taking him out of action. ( ) The fighting escalated, no casualties on the Vultures But the Frankies losed another 2 men(ooa)
The Frankies decided to bottle out, after losing 5 members. The vultures won, Al Vultures were happy, except Mak, mourning about his left ear Mak was the only real casualty on my side only being partially deaf. Casualties on the Frankies were greater. Franky got Impressive scars( how ironically) a juve was also partially deaf, another juve got an old battle wound, and I managed to capture Papo, now working in my mines(hehehe ) this said, the Crooked Vultures took over Bloodshot Town, earning their third settlement. The Frankies weren't seen for a long time, probably brewing a sneaky plan.
pics of Bloodshot town, though the game was played 2 weeks before, the terrain never changed. most terrain is from cities of death, so i need to create a lot more fitting terrain.
I played 4 times in a row against a VAn Saar gang with the name of Freebootiers(yes pronounce it in french)
1st game of the day was a blits I was the attacker. i got Mak, Vakos,Krew and Spark. he got his gang leader (Halvor) and two heavies with heavy stubbers. I infiltrated Spark and he took out 1 of the heavies. but second turn was bad for me. his leader(ws6) toook Spark out of action. (:() but that bought me enough time to position the rest good enough, so Vakos could shoot the water still, wounding it and ending the game. his heavy got up, so no serious injury for him. Spark had to make a roll though....... full recovery. pfhew...
second game was bad for me. it was a gang fight. i had to set up 1st? he put his heavies on the right place, but only 1 could shoot. he shot....... hit...and.... my front row of 3 juves, the second row of a juve and a ganger all went down. then i got my shooty parts up on a balkony and shot down at his gang leader and accompanying gangers and juves. a juve went down, a ganger too, and IAROL MANNAGED TO take down Halvor. then i decided to bottle. it had been enough. I lost and 1 juve, Pine was dead for good. his leader got horrible scars though.
game 3 was a scrag. again a defeat for me. Spark and Mar infiltrated behing his 4 men. Iarol and Krew gave covering fire, while Mak and Markel assaulted down a walkway. I got the target down but not out of action. Spark managed to get 1 of his other gangers out of action too. but then Halvor saw him and cut him down. again, Spark went out of action. then his heavy downed Krew, and i decided it had been enough and i bottled. Spark got impressive scars and krew had a full recovery.
Game 4 was another gang fight. Once again i lost this game.it was mostly a gun fight, because i didn't dare attacking with my close combat group as he had put his 2 heavies on the only way in to his building. So my shooty parts had a gunfight with his shooty parts. it lasted 11 turns, with almost everybody in my shooty group and his went down, and got back up. we had to start taking bottle test from turn 6 though and both sides were determined to win. in the end my gang failed their bottle test. Iarol managed to take down his leader a further 2 times (whooh) and downd another 3 men, the rest also had their part.
overall, it was a fun day, the freebootiers lost a ganger, got 2 arm wounds, and some scars, and the only thing i had was impressive scars and i had lost Pine, bless his young dirty minded life. after the 4 games i bhought a second heavy with a flamer. next time their hiding in a building this will get them out. got a lot of credits, a lot of rare items and i invented 3 items, most of it still in my stash. Hope you enjoyed reading. (sorry no pics, forgot to bring the camera)
Automatically Appended Next Post: oh, i haven't mentioned it, we have few house rules. the rulebook says that you loose the equipment of killed members, we ignore this rule, any equipment of gangers lost in action for good, goes back in your stash, as your gang members cary them back, this rule does not apply to heavy weapons, only heavies are strong enough to cary heavy weapons. they can't carry a second heavy weapon back to their camp as his own weapon is heavy enough for him.
with battles where you can steal territory from your opponent, we use the following house rules. roll a dice, the one who threw highest is the attacker, the attacker the throw a dice and sees on the defenders territory table the roll is equal to the territory next to that number(works the same as in the rulebook). that's the territory you will be fighting over. in this way you can set up the terrain as to best represent that kind of territory. we just use this rule for fluff reasons
Automatically Appended Next Post: o and i updated the gang roster take a look at a few posts back
another quick update, some wip on Krew and Boris. I also painted mak's power sword but that's not worth posting. Now seriously, c&c wanted Tell me what do you think of them. especially for Boris.
yesterday i finished on Krew and build a scummer with knife, lasgun and plasma pistol. Today, i went to a local war-games store, and bought the rulebook of Urban War: Stike team actions. + 2 blisters of triad retainers(that's 8 models for 18.00 euros) and a blister of 5 militia models which i will use for Necromunda. the triad retainers will also be used for Necromunda and for Urban War. does anybody here play Urban War? and an someone explain the game in general? because I still need to read the book. I won't be posting batreps for a while as I'm not going to play for a long time. (exams and all that ****) still some pictures. will post pictures of the triad retainers when i assembled them.
If you are looking for more comments better photos is the way forward especially for a P&M blog, people want to be able to comment on something they can see clearly.
That way they can decide if they like it or not.
Try using paper for a blank background, to help the camera focus on your models and not the background.
well thanks for the advice on using a camera, it could be my bad photographing skills or just the camera. Well' a new camera won't be arriving soon because the camera is my dad's ( and he's like"I won't buy a new one until when it's totally wrecked")
@Ghosty: you definably got to check out their site, their are a lot of great sculpts.
@ The Dreadnote: oh common, the last few pics are a BIT clearer.( right?)
Automatically Appended Next Post: I'll try to find the instruction booklet on how to turn on the macro feature ( or better:" where's that button?)
here you go. Got some work finished, a model from the Urban War Militia. I painted him up as a civilian, factory worker. here are the rules made by me, yet to be playtested) on using civilians in your games
@Waaagh_Gonads: thanks. that would be a problem for him, but i just wanted to paint something yellow. That is my 1st try at painting something yellow other than small wires or something.
update: finished another Triad retainer. I think I'll use some of them as enforcers. I only need to buy more triads to represent different kinds of enforcers. c&c welcome.
finished up some terrain today. It's an oil storage silo. (or whatever) The next terrain project will either be a pub or a tattoo shop. c@c welcome.(model for scale purpose.)
Hey, with the clearer pictures i can actually see something!! Models are looking good, i especially like the kroot, that's some really nice painting there.
Perhaps you need to add some secondary pipes, wires and maybe some rubble on the bottom, just to jazz it up a bit more. You have a good start there though.
Keep on posting, in time more people will comment, honest!
Nice work on the delaque. I think you could do with a bit of shading in the cloak, either a wash of devlan and then a rehighlight or painting a darker colour into the recesses. imho of course!
Excellent use of pop can in your last terrain. I loved Necromunda, but no one in the area plays or wants to play. I also enjoy your batreps, understandable but brief.
Automatically Appended Next Post: oh feth. just as I wanted to take some pics of my progress, the batteries went dead. People waiting for an update just have to wait for tomorrow.
As promised, an update. I decided it was time to put more height in our games and so I constructed some terrain. more will follow, because 2 is not enough. Any ideas how to spice them up? I've only painted 1 but it looks a bit boring.
agreed. I'm saving up on empty coca cola cans just to make this kind of terrain. And I definably got to open my junk box once (but first I have to find it. )
Automatically Appended Next Post: For those who want to help me with the terrain, here is the link to the topic i've opened
update time, another model(don't know for what it could be used yet.) and an update on the terrain, I've spiced it up a bit. Does the terrain look better yet(the green tubing still needs to be painted)
@Charlo: I got it from the net. @Vitruvian XVII: aaaah, oke
Automatically Appended Next Post: there won't be a lot of big updates lately, as my exams are starting next week. But I will be painting a bit and when I finished another model, I'll sure post it here. But don't expect daily updates for a time.
Scrazza great (and much) work!
played some games with Jarl
We are working on zombie horde rules! (pretty nasty... headplosions!)... but a bit hard (zombie movement takes a lot of time because their numbers are between 20-30) were thinkin of vehicles but wich vehicle is agile (and not too heavy) to move around in hive prime?
also made a new yuve (thats a BIG fella)
still got no net at home (those lazy providers!) but ill find a way
Halvor (....and Jarl)
hey Hendaron! can't wait to play against you. It's a tie between our 2 gangs(3-3) Next time i'll be beating you. Revenge for Pine! perhaps use the rules for buggies and warbikes (from ork codex). can't wait to play the zombie hordes. The freebootiers are realy catching up on my gang. what was your gang rating? and that of Jarl?
hey I forgot I had these laying around. I will be using them for my upcoming scavvy gang. Yes i am working on all gangs a bit, especially delaque. the green-ish ones are just models from my traitor guard army( I thought they were fitting) (c&c welcome)
Damn! i dont check up on this for a couple of days, and...this.
First of all, I love your kroot paint scheme, so tribal, so neat.....*mouth salivates*
Your terrain in beautiful, and lavished with some pretty awesome propoganda. About that, is that a world war 1/2 poster with carapace armour painted on?
The scavvies look promising, but their arms and heads seem a whee bit too big.
The Random ganger that you said you werent sure what to do with him could easily count as a random scummer for example. Loving this thread!
Ok with your camera try taking the pictures a little further back and then zoom in on the model. Depending on the camera you may also be able to change the focus point. Or, if you're feeling brave use a tripod, live view and manually focus like I do. My photos are still a work in progress though and by no means perfect.
Maybe it is the pure blood in me but I am a little anti non codex gangs. One of the reasons being Fluff - how do you explain a Kroot gang getting to Necroblunda. I am also worried that Home-brew gangs become OP'd quickly through rule creation. I guess the best way of working this out would be to set up a gang and play test them against another new gang rather than introducing them halfway through.
A suggestion for a possible rule, if in H2H and the Kroot put a model OOA, make a d6 roll on a 6 or 1 they feed. and can't do anything for a turn, BUT don't penalise the other gang more than making a roll on the table (insta-kills are harsh) and everyone deserves a turn on the OOA table. Re-roll next turn and so on...
I played Spyers by had a lot more fun playing Cawdor. The Spyers were at first viewed as OP'd but as soon as they incurred much in the way of disabilities quickly suffered.
Your terrain is fab, I love the rust effect, if i were to say anything though it could do with more levles, ladders onto the roofs of buildings and walkways between buildings roofs. (think Fallout 3 and Megaton if you've played it) There's nothing more fun than watching that annoying heavy fall 9 inches after he's knocked off the top having spent the whole game dominating.
With using transports I think there are some rules in CA, or certainly were when there was the Fanatic site. (may still be about online somewhere!)
As to the rules, as long you have fun that is the most important thing, sometimes we'd flex the rules a little cos it'd make for a more interesting game.
Ignore everything I have said if you wish, the bottom line is it is your hobby, have fun with it!
Sorry for the wordy reply, I love necromunda having played it since it first came out.
Anthony D: well the kroot gang project is put off for a while, I'll take them up again when I feel brave enough.
For rules for vehicles, which chapter approved is that? I have the one from 2004, but I'll have to take a look in that book 1st. and no need to apologize for the wordy replies. that kind of replies make this thread very good. and thanks for the link.
thanks for the kind words everyone.
I've finished painting Boris (the heavy with the flamer) I will post a picture when I found the camera (I forgot where I put it)
Automatically Appended Next Post: can't wait for the exams to pass, I soooooo badly wanna play again. and then this thread will be filled with batreps.
I haven't been able to check this blog after I first posted on it but now that I have come back I'm thoroughly impressed with what you've shown us. I'm loving your terrain pieces
Thank you Wolf. I found my camera AND the macro function. get ready for some really clear pics. Pics of Boris, the second heavy with flamer( as you can see)
Automatically Appended Next Post: I like the way his base turned out. I'm planning on doing that for all the new necromunda models.
Nice clear pics! now put them on a peice of white paper and and bend it up behind the model (lean it against something). By having nothing else in the pic the camera is able to focus on the model better.
I'm liking your terrain as well, good terrain really makes a narrative game memorable IMO
oke, small update. Greenstuffed another model. Juve with knife stub gun and (makeshift) club
Automatically Appended Next Post: oke I need some ideas. I am planning on making an orlock based Rastafarian gang. All with dreads and some cool clothing. of course some joints shouldn't be missing. for they're weapons, i'm going to model them so they look very antiquated. I'll even add a pirate style blunderbuss and I'll count it as a shotgun. I am still looking for the right parts, any suggestions? I would also like to hear some suitable gang names from you, as I suck at coming up with original names. my 1st try is "Dem Rasta boys" (see, not very original)
Very nice work all round. I am quite jealous of your new found camera skills, I have the same problem you did. The way you paint your metal terrain is very good. Please could you post a link and possibly some more information on those Urban war and triad models, I really like them.
yeah, I was thinking about them too. They should be a good base for conversions. But they are a bit pricy. I belgium that is 30.00 euros, and thats a lot of money. But hey I have to buy them 1 day.
Latest addition's looking good. You're really improving with your GS. Maybe you need to invest in some tools for GS, look up colour shapers, they'll really help you improve even more (plus you won't get fingerprints on models!! )
Love the lasgun crate as well. Is that for Scavenger scenarios?
king willy? that doesn't sound too rasta to me. For my leader I was thinking about Lutan Fyah or Ki-Mani. That are the names of 2 reggae artists. + they sound good for gangers.
If I'm not mistaken king Willy was the Rasta voodoo gang leader from predator 2. He was more then bad ass enough to run a necromunda gang! In fact I might have to start a chapter in the US...
Ok down to business. Shopping list. Plasticard, Styrofoam insulation, window screen, broken guitar strings, 1 gallon Elmer's all purpose glue, foam core & plumbers putty.
Plasticard: the more the better. I recommend starting with the kind that has the squares cut into one side so that you can snap it as you go, because this stuff is awesome but it dulls a blade way to fast and you can easily make things a uniform size by simply counting the squares. I know what you are thinking why buy pasticard when I can just use card board for free. Well most people can spot cardboard from a mile off and cardboard warps when you glue or paint it. you can get plasitcard I beams, sheets in the shape of brick and shingle too, this stuff coast a bit but it's a modelers best friend. Oh yeah and you'll never have to use contour putty to mask that congregated center that you find in the cardboard that you are using.
Styrofoam insulation: This stuff is vital! it will form the base of your game table. light weight and strong, it's sold in sheets of 4ft by 8ft, yep the size of a normal 40k table. It can be used for the base of buildings rocks tyranid spires, trenches, craters and just about anything your'e skill level will allow. If you haven't seen this in tutorials then your just not looking.
window screen: It's cheap, easy to cut. It makes fences, windows & the grating on those sci-fi walk ways you see every where on the net. Try cutting some to the shape of your pop can catwalks, place it on top, then frame the edges of with card bored from a cereal box. Once you have framed both sides with strips lay stips of the same thickness a crossed the width to make squares. after you have made you're squares you can lay peaces down the center of the square or cross two peaces to make an X a crossed the square. This will mimic a common sci-fi theme that you see in the movie Aliens, star wars and many others. If I wasn't on vacation in a third world country rife with crappy internet connections I would find a picture for you right now, but that will have to wait for now.
broken guitar string: Armored wires, and cables. Why broken, well because it's free.
1 gallon Elmer's all purpose glue: it'll glue wood Styrofoam and sand together. If you cant get your hands on water affects (a water based resin) you can use it to make rivers, blood, oil or what have you because its mixes with water which means it mixes with paints and washes. You can also dilute it with water to seal things with out losing details before you paint. If you forget to wash it off of your brush before it dries soak it in hot water, and then wash it off. (can you tell that I love the stuff) the reason that you need to get a gallon is because it's many time cheaper that way, and you will use a lot! A lot of the time hot glue is just as good and much faster but you need to have this on hand. No really you NEED this. Do you have it yet?... good moving on.
Foamcore: it's card board with Styrofoam in the center instead of congregated cardboard. you can use it any time that you would use cardboard, but the center doesn't need to be filled and it makes perfect plaster walls and you can peel the card off of one side to and carve tiles or hard wood floors into the foam. Really cheap if not free. Check art store or hardware stores.
plumbers putty: it's a cheaper version of green stuff. Lower grain quality but damn cheap in comparison. use it when fine detail isn't as important. ok that's enough for now if you'll get some of this stuff then I'll start linking you to super easy tutorials. By the way if cost is an issue, I get free guitar strings from music shops, foam core from art store dumpster and insulation foam from hardware store dumpsters. I know dumpster diving isn't for every one and I'm not suggesting that you do anything that makes you uncomfortable or embarrasses you or your parents, but I've made entire bombed out cities this way. Many times the store just give me there scraps when I asked.
wow that was a big post to read through. well i got a variant of elmer al purpose glue, I also have styrofoam insulation. for the walkways on those cola cans, the curent walkways are just proxies, I'll make cool looking ones later. And i don't really want that sci-fi look of star wars for necromunda, I rather like old buildings, looking like they could collapse every minutes. I'm also building my necro terrain after the image of a slum rather than high tech things. But there are good advices in you post so thank you.
That list is my standard set of materials regardless of what I'm making. Don't forget their ramshackle house will incorporate scarps from the hive. I left out sand but I'm only damn close to perfect.
King willy took on the predator in single combat. He lost, but you know, he went at it with a sword, where as everyone else just shot it. He'd be an inspirational gang leader.
update. The prototype Rasta ganger. I wanted him to look as a big, fearsome man. Hence the Catachan parts. The dreadlocks aren't perfect, but I am happy with them. (c&c welcome.)
keep blazin'
Kool figs. i like what you guys are doing, ill keep reading this forum.great work. you and bosh have insprired me to start a blood bowl forum.makes me want to start playing necromunda. but i already liquidated my figs. rats!!!love the scenary reminds me of mine.im so sick of everyone pushing that stuff has to be perfect. im no expert modellerand I have a beer/ garage league.henc the no perfection were at no store.
@ krazy kenny: thank you for sharing my point of view!
@Ghosty: That's because he is wearing a bandana, that way his hair LOOKS like it's just resting on his head. (It could also be my bad greenstuff skills lol!)
Automatically Appended Next Post: oh, and for the rasta gang leader i decided the name Simma. So no whining about king willy lol!
update time. A new scavvy and an imperial guard sergeant which I can use for necro. I also uploaded much clearer pics of the earlier posted gang members so far(DELAQUE)
(c&c welcome)
Hey Scrazza, I saw someone mentioned using oil to lubricates GS when you are working on it. It works well but you can't add more GS to the part you are working on till you wipe off all the oil (and wait till the GS dries!) and paint doesn't like the oil for sure.
My reccomendation is just to use water as you can shake off any excess in order to add GS to the working area.
Just my 2cents
Oh and definitely get the paint blenders, I got some a couple of months back and my GS work went up a level, makes cloth SO easy.
Hey Scrazza, I think your terrain and minatures look really cool.
I'm also making (very slowly) scratch built terrain for Necro. Like other posters have said, I recommend you use foamcore and platicard---they're both easy to use and make terrain alot more durable.
As for your Rasta gang, I remember once seeing a Rasta themed gang for Necro online. I think it used catachan models with greenstuffed dreadlocks. However, It was years ago and I don't remember where I saw it. It would be worth searching for it, though.
I will buy those greenstuff tools from gw after the exams are done. I'll also try to find some plasticard and foamcore(I think I have some foamcore laying around somewhere)
update: wip on the delaque juve. And I finished converting the rasta gang leader. I'm not quit happy with the way he turned out, but it'll have to do until I make a new version of em. (c&c& welcome)
I have also converted a 'rasta' gang for Necromunda, (used Delaques & catachans) after I get home later maybe I can get some pics, after I dig out the models and fire up the cam.
-good to see some Necro-love happenin'... Wait that didn't sound good did it???
thank you Xenon. At least I hope I'm having having a fabulous gang. Anyway, tomorow I've got my last exam, so I'm going to play a few times these days. I maybe paint those rastas up, who knows.
Mak heard from a snitch their was a new gang cald the Muchashos risen to power. The crooks tracked em down and forced them to fight. things went bad in the beggining with Vakos out of action in the 1st turn. the second turn 2 more of my guys went out of action. But then Boris torched 3 infiltrating gangers taking 1 out of action. shooting went good for me and I shot 2 more down 1 fleshwound and 1 out of action. Spark took another 2 out of action with his power maul. He decided to bottle out. He had bad luck on his serious injury, 2 of his dudes went dead outright. I, in contrary, had his share of luck. 1 had an old battle wound, 1 horrible scars and 1 full recovery.
That was the 1st batrep. the 2 games I played today will be posted later. I also bought 3 models. I will post pics of them when they are assembled so stay tuned.
Hehe
excellent!
FWIW am in a very positive mood about Necromunda as I actually won yesterday! Though tbh my 10 yo opponent went easy on my Mousemashers as he wasn't playing his own Van Saar house gang
anyway PeePee Toolate, did me proud and now can shoot from the hip as a result
great stuff Scrazza, keep 'em coming mate!
Like the look of the new guys
Ahh foundry, they're pretty good. But they have a couple of flaws. Naimly, they're small. true 28mm, so they will look like pigmies next to a catachan. Coincidently, foundry do do a pigmy range, and they're the shizz!
Thanks Scrazza
with me in charge and rolling the dice? No chance First outing my leader got hit and the gang bottled out just as we were about to take the objective!
On the roll he was captured, but he was so rubbish I refused to pay the ransom so he got sold into slavery!
nice linky
Assume the Ballistic Beach Babes don't get an armour save
well then. I'm having a hobby marathon today and I will post my progress of today after the project is finished. here are the 1st 2 Things. 1 Is a finished model while the other is wip. I'mm painting them for my next gang (Goliath). I hope you like the look of the new Goliath gangs.
EEK! wouldn't want to meet him in a dark alley.
Come to think of it I wouldn't want to meet him in a well lit alley!
I would suggest priming in grey or using a foudation which covers black really well. I find it makes painting the models a lot easier than having to work over black.
Have a load of really old gretchin from an incomplete Space Crusades game. Lots of good things here for inspiration!
Am really liking these dudes Scrazza! thumbsup
Love the skull painting oon the smoker's jacket!
glad you like them. the models are from Urban War miniatures and Dark Age miniatures.
Automatically Appended Next Post: oke, I need help with names for my upcoming Goliath gang. I've come up with a few myself, but I need some more. Help please. I've got: Johnny "Mad Dog", Mister Sunshine, Cuttar and Malik. Now you come in.......
as the new title says, I will add random projects because Necromunda alone doesn't seem to interest a lot of you. Hence the 1st random project. Eldar Dire Avenger.
I decided to start a second Guard army, because I grew tired of my first. The idea came from reading Gaunt's ghosts. I read The founding, and and now half way through the saint. I don't know exactly what to do. Make my own army, or start my own Tanith first and only project. Advice would be lovely.
anyway, Crisis 2010 came and went today. And I bought a crap load of miniatures.
-All of sheaffers last chancers - a Delaque gang - a crap load of Call of Chultu (ish) miniatures. - bits for my upcoming guard project -terrain for necromunda - some urban war blisters -catachan battle-force (base for Guard army 2) ... and a baneblade.
The baneblade was already assembled, and the basic layers were already applied as well.
here are a few pictures, of the last chansers, delaque gang and the baneblade. The rest will follow. last but not least is my test model for the new guard army. I made him for an upcoming painting contest over at the imperial guard message board.
@ Maledictus: he is supposed to be a Tanith ghost yes. and he's a test model for guard army nr 2 as well
update:
some WIPs and a finished project.
Finished: Delaque ganger with lasgun
Wip: Demolition man
Guard Command squad
I like the way how the camo cloaks turned out. As you can see on the vox operator, his cloak is draped over his shoulder. I had to do that, because a vox was too big to fit a cloak over. I used 2 metal heads. On the sniper and on the medic. Heads are from black cat bases. I bought 3 of each different head pack with each 4 heads in it. So that would give me something to personalize the army. + I have 12 backpacks, also from black cat bases, but I doubt I will be using the for this army.
Ah some of Dave Taylor's miniatures. I haven't seen these before. Have you got a link to his site?
Thanks. Indeed my skills with greenstuff came a long way. When I look back at my old greenstuffed models, I hang my head in shame. My skills with greenstuff aren't amazing, but its better then back then, yes.
To all who is new to greenstuff, Don't let up, practise and you'll get better!
Hendaron and me started a campaign. I use my new Guard regiment, dubbed the Furian 3rd. I used a lot of models of my other guard army to represent them. I still have a lot of conversion work to do.
Great work sir! Really impressive. You've managed to turn every figure into a character. Really love this stuff. Screw the UltraMarines movie.. they should make a Necromunda movie instead!

Indeed, screw the ultramarines movie. But necromunda would attract different audience. It would chase away all the little ultramarine obsessed children.
Graveyard earth? Hmmmmm. Not sure, But I'll try it out, It might turn out better than I think.

Let me know how it goes.. I'm thinking Graveyard Earth may go well... but.. I've been known to be wrong!
I'll try it out tommorow, I'm tired, and just finished the posing of my new scout sentinal. Will post pictures of the wip tomorrow. Next step on the sentinal, is the base. The base needs to be a bit more' alive'.
I didn't continue on Hero, but I did start on the scout sentinal. And a trench coat trooper, which I will use as traitor guard.
I didn't glue on those bars yet, for ease of painting. You can't see it in the pic, but there is actually an ork leg on the other side of the tree trunk.
so, the poll made it quite clear. I'm going for a custom regiment. Now I need to come up with some fluff. I'll name my planet Furith. So that makes my regiment the Furian 2nd. I am able to come up with fluff myself, but i'll appreciate any help I get. Ideas will go here, and if I have everything needed, I'll write the fluff in the dakka background section.
Rose_Mountainz wrote:I like the heads, but the cloaks could be a bit smoother
I have to work on the cloaks, yeah. I have tried all sorts of things to smooth that out. I've tried to smooth it out with a super thin layer off PDA glue. A mate sugested it, and it kinda works, but anly if its a super thin layer.
Always look on the bright side. At first I thought the same, but then I dismissed the thought, because the prints were too big in comparison to the rest of the model.
banelade? euh... the work on the baneBlade goes well ,when I get home friday,I can start working on the hull. because im on boarding school (or something like that) Posting isnt very easy on a psp (or fast) so... anyway, im still can repaint my marines ,so expect a HUGE update saturday offtopic: scrazza, any chance you ll be at the GW that saturday? ill be there anyway so ,just asking. . .
@Hendaron: There's a chance I will. I'll let you know.
Boarding school...Meh
Well, I am embarrased to say i didn't get any work done. I did did half assembly for 4 more Guards to make up the 1st squad. I need to put a greenstuff camo on them, and the put on the heads.
Here's the plan for the catachan battle force.
Step 1: Command squad : ASSEMBLED
Step 2: Scout sentinal : ASSEMBLED
Step 3: Squad 1: WIP on ASSEMBLY
Step 4: Mortar squad: NEEDTO BEGIN WITH
Step 5: Squad 2 : NEED TO BEGIN WITH.
I like the heads!
I got it managed i can rent a laptop from somebody on internate(boarding school) just a cam and i can start posting during the week! yay!
hiring, whatever not for money anyway so... an solution as long as my parents deem it "rightfull" to hold my own lzptop
at home so,allows me to checkup once in a while, great!
thanks for the tip about the heads. i did mean the french line head lol it looks a little like a crown from the front he he he maybe because its gold! sorry
the fluff looks good but i have only skimmed it , need a bit more time , to get involved proper!
you got it right. a delaque gang. and I am starting to make models for a goliath gang. I've tried to play with Goliath in our new campaign, but I just can't resist the Delaque.
Ah, the goliaths. My favorite models and gang GW ever produced. It's a shame no one plays as the meat heads though, but they do have the worst skill selection of all the gangs.
Chibi Bodge-Battle wrote:If you can make as good as we have seen you can scratch your own terrain young Scrazza, my man!
I got some clay somewhere, I might give it a shot. But I think it wouldn't look half as good as the resin one. But then again, when a man practices enough, the man will get it right sometime.
after looking at the terrain a second time, I noticed there is no way to get up the box. I'll add a ladder later one. That way it looks more real, and it would be better in game. (in necromunda, that is)
@ Black Ram: there aren't many goliath players no. yes, their skill tree sucks, but that adds to the gangs personality. Those bulging muscles, the goliaths have must be compensated by other bad stuff. It's just a matter of balancing the rules.
ah yes the mohawks. that should always be present with a goliath gang. But mine will have more dreadlocks then mohawks. No mater how cool a mohawk is, (wanted to get one myself, but not with the baldiness on the sides, and not as radical as the punkers. ) dreads will always do it for me. I think that's because my love for Reggae music.
Automatically Appended Next Post: hehe. I played tha dark eldar before the new codex. I thought I would be excited about the new release, but I seem to have lost interest in the dark eldar.
That point you made on the DE is exactly what happened to me. I always was saying on how I wish I will be alive when they are updated. I am glad to see them updated, but am not glad with the giant wave of bandwagon.
About the mohawk thing, I rock one myself. It is a pain I tell, you, but it is so worth it.
Seems I have posted alot here, so you can count that I will keep watch on this thread.
hey Scrazza , like your paintscheme on your building, nice building also, its my favourite archetectural style, Brutalism appropriate name heh! there is lots of it in leeds where i live , and i grew up playing on the stuff in the university( check the link) , with my bmx!
good call on the Brutalism Neil
I also have lots of ladders to make for a Necro project.
The campaign had not been restarted so I was hoping to have one less project to worry about.
bloomin kids decided to start a new campaign last week when I wasn't looking
I am currently thinking of using some sprue to make some ladders, push into clay and pour in some resin from the car repairs shop. It is going to have to be cheap quick and cheerful- or should that be cheerless for Necro?! If i feel up to it can add some wire for handrails at a later date
Automatically Appended Next Post: ps may pop some pics up in a bog some point if I feel motivated enough (unlikely! )
wow, Chibi, from what I am reading, you put a lot of detail in your terrain. I am planning on making the ladders with Balsa Wood (don't know if you heard of it before. it's a hobby material, it's wood thats easy to break.)
new campaighn eh? wel thats good, that keeps the competiveness high. In my last campaign spark had a power maul, dissarm, ws 6, infiltrate, and a crap load of othergood skills. I used to infiltrate him and then assault when I could. Spark was that good, nobody could kill him. It even went that far that I killed/ taken down a whole gang with only spark. In those situations, it should be clear to you to start a new campaign.
Yes it's useful stuff I was going to use some paper clips tbh as they make good rungs. But it seems too tedious because I would need to drill holes and super glue each rung trying to make sure everything is aligned correctly! Would do that for an individual bit of detailing but with a lot of ladders to make, the push moulding will be easier.
Balsa may be too soft as well to impress into the clay.
Lol glad I didn't have to face Spark. Pee Pee Toolate may well have had more than a little accident if he came up against Spark!
PS the detailing overall will be kept to a minimum as the kids will just wanna play so I need to finish off fast. Otherwise I would love to add pipee and all sorts of stuff! Guess I can do that over time. Also am thinking of using magnetic strips so the ladders can be taken off and relocated as and when necessary.
I would never gather enough patience to use paperclips for ladders. I would just throw away everything in anger as my hands are too big to do that kinda detalied work.
It might be too soft for clay, but I am trying to glue the onto the resin one I just painted.
I really miss Spark. He started as a juve youknow. He was the gangs mascot. His only real bad thing was that his WS was still 2 after ending the campaign. you can't always have all the good stuff.
I decided to build missile launchers instead of the mortars. So I built the first and here they are. A while back I bought Catachan guardsmen to convert them to Necromunda models. Well, I was surprised to find out I had enough parts left to make another model. So I made a Sniper, because I plan on using lots in this army.
I really like how the sniper turned out. I plan on keeping this look for all of my future snipers. What do you think? Keep this look or modify the sniper rifle?
Thanks Monkeytroll. I am searching for bits to make a bipod now.
it's weekend, that MIGHT mean I get something done. Currently lined up are the next two HWT's and some custom terrain. But the terrain is not going to be for Necromunda, it's going to be for my new Guard army. Trees. simple, yet is obscures lines of sight
sorry scrazza , just looked over the net , and nothing came up!
maybe you could scratch build, from sprue? or greenstuff. good luck mate , and the sniper , rifle build is a good idea.joining the rifles like that!
Back to Necromunda! I got a bit burned on the Furians, so I decided to start on a bunch of new models I got. Only 1 painted model now, But I'm showing a bunch of other miniatures, I am starting work on.
@Neil: thanks. Scratch building it would be my best option maybe, yeah. But that can wait, I am not planning on painting them until the whole box is completed.
they are lovely models scrazza, i dont know evey one is doing necromunda now , im getting left out in the cold here...
arh well , least i can be inspired by everyones great work, i really would like to do an old school brat gang , full of pomp and expensive weapons! but i will have to put that at the bottom of a long list.
Scrazza wrote:I'll do that, but the kroot list will be based upon the ratskins with aditional teritories, special kroot only weopons, new skills, etc...
I used the Escher List for my Kroot Gang - melee, stealth, agility all pretty much kroot traits, backed up with decent weapons.
It's a lot easier than getting into balance arguments.
Scrazza, those are some damn fine models! Where did you get 'em, cause most of them I'm not familiar with. They don't look like any I've ever seen on the GW website.. which is gak..
Anyway, I love 'baldy' there, but the skin and the grey.. ehh.. y'know? In other words (or real words!) it just doesn't look realistic enough. Try Tallarn Flesh washed with Ogryn Flesh - it's my basic little way of doing skin and I find it works very well.. I just need to decide which colours for highlighting.
I believe a wise man once said, "basecoat, wash, THEN highlight." Or something like that.
@earthbeard: thanks for the advice. It's been a long while since I worked on the ruleset, but hey....
Yeah oke, Esher's suitable, But I don't want that fluuf behind them.
@Darkvoid: those two men with rifles are OOP Viridian Commandos (from Urban Mamoth) those two men with pistol and shotgun are militia. (also from Urban Mamoth) and the guy with the two pistols is from Cthulhu Noir.
I got a lot more models from thulhu, but I have to unpack them yet.
Now on the Delaque's skin color. The pale skin's done deliberatly. Delaque's are used to dak area's thats why the all wear goggles all the time. Light would blind them. That's the same for the skin. They just all have pale skin. Don't know why exactly (have to check that again) but they just do.
the dreaded thinsg called exams are almost upon me. So that means no big updates in the following two weeks. I do have one painted miniature, but i'll try to squeeèze enough time in to post tomorrow
ha thanks guys, I will need it. in another falf hour from now, I will start studying French. I changed schools recently, I don't have that much to study anymore.
Maybe tonight, I'll post up some pics of the one painted model.
Ugh, could not make time to upload another pic of the wips and finished projects. Well, it doesn't look like I can tonight ( ), But I will tommorow at the start of the weekend. I'll have enough time then.
I got the same feeling,ol' friend, already got 4 behind me and 11 to go my updates will be rare ,as i don't get time to do some work on my models in the week
i will have to do it in the weekend (combined with studying) so...
good luck anyway, and see you after the exams!

Wow, sorry Scrazza, I don't think i've seen your necro stuff before, though I've been admiring your Furians (and especially their cloaks!) when I've dropped by. Good choice of non-GW models for your munda gang - she fits really well with the Delaques! What company is she from? Totally approve your gang choice as well - sneaky gangs all the way
Hope you don't mind if I post a couple of your pics in the showcase thread - let me know if you want me to take em down!
@Scarper: Thanks! the model's from Urban Mamoth miniatures. A militia model. All those miltia models fit really well with Necromunda, I usedquite a bit models from Urban Mamoth for Necromunda by now.
Yes sneaky gangs all the way. Everytime we start a new campaign, I just can't take another gang than Delaque. I really like the fluff behind hese guys.
And I don't mind at all, I am glad you put them up!
A little update on tactics. More of a question actually.
Normally for the second veteran squad, I was going to arm them with three Meltaguns. (don't forget camo cloaks). But I found out I only had 2 meltaguns.
Now, what do I do? order a bits pack from Gw with meltaguns? Or 'screw this' I am going for plasmaguns?
Tyranids being my main enemy. Fluff wise (as they are in a campaign against 'nids) and game wise, My opponent plays them (obviously). I am going to arm all the veteran sergeants with powerswords. But is it worth it giving them a plasma pistol? Or is the chance they will blow away themselves, with the plasma pistol and the power sword?

If you're fighting Tyranids, you want PLASMA and lots of it. In every single way, the meltagun is far inferior to the plasma gun at killing Tyranids. Double range, more shots - perfect!
But if you really want to ruin any Tyranid players' day, LEMAN RUSS BABY! AN' LOTS OF 'EM!!!
Ah, the lovely, lovely, LOVELY pie-plates..strength eight..AP3..ORDNANCE...*drool*.. SEVENTY-TWO-INCH-RANGE! YES!
*ahem*
Yes, well, the more shots, the longer range, the better. As for powerswords, which are awesome, they aren't all that effective.. unless you've got a 50 man blob squad with a commissar - 6 power weapons, 5 Lascannons and an array of plasma/melta and over a hundred attacks on the charge! With Straken, they'll be at S4 and I4. Put those bugs to shame!
Plasma guns it is then. I'll start working on tha plasma vets tomorrow. I finished half of the squad. Gave the sarge a power sword and laspistol though.
Leman Russes are good, but my guard being Light Infantry, I'll never include Leman Russes in my army.
Time for another big update. I finished the second squad. The sarge can double as having a power sword or not. 3 plasma, and a heavy stubber (Read Heavy Bolter) Fluff wise, I figured a Heavy stubber looks lighter then a heavy bolter. In the future I will need some stopping power. Hence the stubber team. I shortened the barrel, so that it looks les heavy, and looks like it has a reduced kickback from firing. The heavy stubber just fits in good in a light infantry regiment.
What do you guys think? Does it look good? The stubber that is. I am considering of doing another one. Maybe even a squad of three stubbers.
(I once again appolagize for the dark pictures. I haven't jet got a new lamp.)
cool stuff, the stubbers looks great , as does the loader, not sure but i think the stubber guy needs a little support though, maybe a stock, going into his armpit, like a m60 , looks good all the same though nice idea, the obmarker is simple and effective. all in all i like these guys, i see you went for the plasma, they suite the modles big and chunky , you managed to get lots of nice poses from those tricky catchans, and the cloaks add a special touch. good work mate.
Automatically Appended Next Post: can i suggest you change the first guy on the lefts arm , his left arm, could be the camera angle but it looks a bit off at the moment.
Thanks Neil! a stock sounds good. I have one lying around from one of the plasme guns. That would suit good. And maybe I can add a bipod, just like with the sniper. Yeah, I still haven't found one, and I haven't spend time on scratching one.
You mean the vox guy? I think it's the angle, But I could just chop the arm off again, fit some green stuff between the arm and the torso, so that the arm looks more left(?ish?) I hope you know what I mean
Spleeee! updates!
great work btw, I like the objective.
PS:I have assembled the fellblade.
and im stuck with an unarmed land raider chassis (nr3)
BUT I have found 2 plasma cannons on sponsons+big leman russ plasma cannon... hello land raider persephone
Well, from what I can tell (which isn't that much considering I'm using my NETBOOK which has about a 6" wide screen that is 4" high.
But, honestly, it doesn't look very camouflaged - just lots of dark and unimpressive colours. And, the skin is pretty blotchy and is only one colour.
My friend, I'm sorry for the harsh criticism, although I do quite like the sword and pistol, this model just doesn't really do anything for me when I look at it. Sure, great pose 'n' all, but the camo-cloak needs to have MUCH more brown/green/black colours. Make it really patterned, perhaps using the useless but awesome colours for Cadian tanks? Or something similar. Or look on the internet for inspiration, I know the GW website has some articles about IG camo schemes and that.
Yeah, that's my advice. Check out the GW Catachan painting article for the skin/clothes, and the camo-schemes article as well.
Side note - always paint a grunt first; it means you don't have to strip your favorite model(s) of paint if you don't like the outcome.
Of course, if you like it Scrazz, go right on and paint. But for me, the model just doesn't look all that good. Admittedly, flesh and skin is quite hard to paint, but there are plenty of ways. If the Catachan article on GW website is too complicated (don't take that harshly, I couldn't make sense of it/think I could do it/afford all the paints when I lookedat it) then just ask on Dakka, it's what I did. Infact, I think if you look in my "threads created by Darkvoidof40k" on my profile, you'll be able to find a thread I made about IG colour schemes and skin.
Apologies if this all sounded negative and horrible, but believe me, I really would like to see a great IG force come together from your modelling skills, but not if it's going to end up being painted badly.
It'd just be a bit of waste not to do the job as good as possible first time round, no?
Yes the camo colors are a bit ... Boring. I wanted to keep it simple, but after it was done It didn't look convincing. I think I'll ad some more colors to it.
The skin. I liked the way the skin turned out on some of my munda models. I started with mixing snakebite leather with dwarf flesh, use that as a base layer. The n highlight with dwarf flesh. But the base layer came out too light. It should have been darker. But hey, nothing a thin, thin layer of devlan mud could change.
The same goes for the flak vest. There are highlights on it, but the picture doesn't give it credit.
I'll aply work some more on the skin and on the cloak.
well, you can consider this an update, but be warned, wall of text!
Of course, I have worked on. I painted some more Furians, and assembled five roughriders. I am thinking of raising this numbet to ten, with two malta guns and a powersword wielding sergeant.
So, I finished chapter one of my short novel based on the Furians. Now keep in mind, I am not a great writer but I'd love some feedback.
Trooper Thompson was cold. He lay in a blown out building together with his squad. The cold was killing him, just like with the others. The Furians weren't made for winters, they favored woods, temperate climates...Not this. The Furian 5th were supposed to fight Tyranids in the crusade, not some rebels. And that on a world covered in permanent winter, that is. What made matters worse, They were light infantry. And the Generals decided that light infantry, specialised in woodland warfare, would bolster Imperial Forces on a Hive world.
Thompson tightly wrapped his Camo Cloak around him. The cloak had lost it's purpose now, the green colors rebeled against the white snow. They only used it for the warmth it gave. He missed Furia, his homeworld. He only lived there for twenty years of his life, but he was born there. It just felt like he hadn't lived there long enough.
"Let's move out again." Sergeant McHay stood up, and waved the rest to do so as well.
The Furians were a green outfit. They only just finished there training back on Furia, sent to this place on a frigate, and two weeks after their training, they found themselves in what passed for them a world of crap. At least it weren't the Tyranids they were fighting. Unlike the 3rd, who were thrown right into a Tyranid assault, they had chances to get some combat experience.
The snow had slackened for now, giving them somewhat of a clearer vieuw ahead of them. The Imperials had bombed this place thoroughly, but the rebels just fortified the ruins, placing new plascrete walls to shut of important routs, digging trenches at strategic locations,... It was hard to notice the rebels were just militia. At least Intel said they passed for militia, but thompson noted they were well prepared.
Thompson's squad were all shaking. Not from fear, but from the cold. The forest dwellers will never get used to this weather. Thompson thought about the planet they left behind, his homeworld. He was jaleous of the 4th, who got to stay at Furia and take on the role of the PDF.
His squad was scouting, they didn't want to be seen. Normally they would have used their cloaks, but in the industial area, they had no use anymore. They left the small buidling where they were resting, and headed for the manufactorm on the opposite side of the road. It was the biggest building Thompson ever saw. He was used to the small villages back on Furia. Graffiti was sprayed on the walls, sporting anti Imperial slogans. Command had suspected enemy presence here, so they sent a small squad forward. They ran toward the building in a single file, Sergeant McHay on point. Mchay reached the giant doorway, peeked around it's corner and sent Hajo and McHarl in. The two troopers reported back in a minute, informing the building clear. McHay directed the men inside. At least this building had a roof, and the structure looked all right. They could get some hours of sleep here.
The squad were sent on a two day mission, to scout and report back in 48 hours, and report all their findings to Company Command.
They went inside, and loosened their cloaks. The heating was still working, thankfully. That, or the rebels had been here and put braziers here. They may have left in a hurry, on a likewise mission the Furians had The squad assembled in a circle in the centre of the large room they were in.
"We stay here for two hours. Thompson, Hajo, McHarl, heaten up for a while. Hazjin, search for a look out point, scope around a bit and report anything you see."
Hazjin, the squad's sniper, nodded and ran his agile frame out of sight, looking for a vantage point.
"The rest," Sergeant McHay started again guard the doors. " 'll rotate shifts with Hajo and the others in one hour. "
the four men nodded, one of them grunting.
"Dunn, get me Company Command on the line." The vox opperator nodded and started adjusting his caster set.
"Delta HQ, this is Delta Scout, come in." Dunn tried to raise HQ on the vox. "Delta HQ, this is Delta Scout, come in."
The snow was playing hell with Vox.
"Delta HQ, this is Delta Scout, come in." Dunn tried again.
His calls were followed by more static hissing, untill finally a hacked an answer came.
"Delta b...ase, ...Go...ahead Scout...."
"Chief, I got them." Dunn yelled. Sergeant McHay walked over, ripping the speaker horn out of Dunn's hands.
"Sergeant McHay here, we reached the second checkpoint, Seventh district Manufactorum. Nothing notable so far, sir. Awaiting coordinates to next checkpoint."
"...C..op..y, that, Sergeant, ...N...ext che...ckpoint is the seventh district's mall....Coordinates: ..................................." Static hissing followed.
"Vrek it, Dunn, fix the line!" Mchay yelled, tossing the horn in the voc opperator's lap. The sergeant walked around angrilly. If the vox line was severed again, they would be trapped in this city, alone without support for longer then they needed. Sergeant Mchay gathered the resting men, and raised the others on his vox bead. At least the vox beads worked. He told them the situation, and that their rest period would be longer then anticipated. The men took this information as a poisoned gift. It meant more time to rest, and warm up, but it also meant that they would be exposed longer than needed.
As an hour passed, Thompson and the others, including McHay went up for their watch. Still no sign of Hazjin, he must have hidden himself again. Hazjin was a hunter back on Furia. He was used to laying still for long times. Just as the others took their posts, Hazjan reported trouble.
"Halftack." Was Hazjan's simple warning. " Seven men."
"Where are they heading?" Asked McHay.
"Past, the halftrack is going....no.... It stopped. They are dissembarking. Opposite side of the street. They are heading this way."
"Vrek." Mchay said outloud.
"Permission to take shots, sir?" asked Hazjan.
"Yes, They can't spot us. Shoot the halftrack driver first. Don't let them get away."
McHay raised the rest on the vox bead. "Positions!" he hissed. Left side of the manufactorum. Dunn stay here, keep raising Command on the vox, we need those coordinates."
Thompson's squad got to their positions. Then they waited for Hazjan's shot.
Hazjan took aim from his vantage point on top of the manufactorum. He loaded a hot shot round. A single shot clip, but with some luck, he could hit a fuel tank, and destroy their hopes of getting back to their base. Hazjan lay in the snow, dead still. He took aim, shot, and the whole block was warned of enemy presence by the exploding Halftrack.
"Vrek." Hazjan mumbled.
The rebels were clearly surprised by the blast behind their backs. The driver and the gunner were killed outright, burned to death by the fiery explosion. Hazjan's shot hit the fuel tank, the hot shot being strong enough to penetrate the armour plating around the vulnerable halftracks. Two more rebels were knocked to the ground, down but not out. The other three ran to cover. A normal grunt, another one carrying a radio set, and a sergeant of some kind, throwing them into cover. Hazjan knew he made a mistake, but he could try to make up for this. He had endangered his entire squad.
Hazjan quickly aimed at the radio opperator, who was already on the line, giving coordinates. With some luck their lines would be scrambled by the weather, but that explosion must be noticed from afar. It must have been, it was a ghost town now, not a single sound, except the thumping sounds of Imperial mortars spitting death. His sight was obscured by the rubble the rebels were hiding behind. He could see his radio though.
Hazjan saw his squad members on the lower floors taking up supression fire, all hope of stealth was lost. He could hear their grunts and complaints about the agile sniper too, he would have to make an effort if he wished to make it up to them. He steadied his aim on the radio, and shot after taking a deep breath to calm himself. He had used another hot shot pack, resulting in another small explosion as the battery pack of the radio exploded, scorching the opperators back. The opperator was screaming, the trooper with him tried to put out the fire, but he was draged back in line by the sergeant, who, coldly, executed the writhing opperator. the two previously downed men arived in cover mostly unscathed, the Furians blue las bolts whipping all around them. Their cover was just a few steps from where they first lay.
Not only had Hazjan made a bad choice of what to shoot, but he had chosen a bad moment as well. He should have waited a bit more, when the rebels were closer to the building, where they had less cover. Now, the Furian squad and the handfull of rebel survivors were locked in a stalemate. Which would be broken by the rebels once they brought in reinforcements. The rebels would then outflank them, and butcher them.
Hazjan would not let that happen. He had brought his squad in this mess, and he would get them out. Hazjan, positioned on the roof, had a better sight on the enemy. He would have to kill them quickly, if the Furians wanted to relocate before they would be 'vrekked' by the rebels. Hazjan needed to shoot faster. He changed the spent hot shot pack, but instead of loading another hot shot round, he loaded a normal pack, so that he would lose less time reloading.
He slapped the pack home, took aim while steadying his breathing. He sighted the sergeant, barking orders and shooting at the windows with his auto pistol. He had to make sure to make kill shots, so he aimed for the head. through his scope, he could make out the sergeant's tribal tatooes, and his scar covered face. He squeezed the trigger, resulting in a small explosion of gore. The las bolt passed through his head. The sergeant slumped down, out of vieuw for Hazjan. His three remaining compatriots stood up and fled at the sight of the death of their boss.
The fleeing rebels were quickly cut down by a fusilade of blue las bolts. The skirmish ended, but if they didn't holler soon, the battle would start soon.
"Hazjan, get you sorry arse down here," McHay's voice cut through the vox bead in his ear. "And Vrekking hurry, puke!"
Hazjan picked himself up, shaking the snow off of him. He collected his two spent hot shot packs, he couldn't wast any of them. They were valuable once they were recharged again. Besides, it was a habit of him back home. He never left a spent shell casing behnd in the woods
When the stalemate eventually broke, the squad rushed out of the building. Dunn, hadn't reached HQ yet, he had stopped trying when they started to run. Command had said something of a mall, so they just had to read the signs on the road. This proved more difficult then expected. Because of the bombing, most of the signs weren't there anymore, blown away.
McHay halted his squad at a corner. He waved Hazjan forward, to sneek around the corner and watch for enemy movement. Hajo and Thompson covered him. Hazjan eventually got to a good position, and scoped around. Not too long after, he rushed back. McHay was about to yell to him again, but then he heard the sound of engines.
"Two halftracks." Hazjan said simply running around the corner. Trooper Gyrin waved them over, to another corner. Gyrin had checked it, and it had appeared save to him. Thompson, Gyrin and Hajo ran up front. They had lost all regard for safetey, and ran on on pure adrenaline. They couldn't be seen, nor caught. The three of them jumped behind a set of barrels. Hajo peeked over the top, didn't see anything, and waved the rest onward. Hajo hadn't checked carefully.
Hajo took point, with Thompson and Gyrin on his tail and the rest following behind. The ardenaline pumped trooper rushed ahead, almost forgetting the rest. Hajo felt something against his shin. He stopped dead in his tracks, looked down and saw a piece of cord. Fear took over, but he hadn't forgotten about his squad. He turned round on one foot, while resting the other at its place.
"Vrek, boobytrap!" Get ba--"
The explosives went off. Fire, smoke and a red mist kicked up.Thompson and Gyrin were caught up front. They weren't wounded, but they were knocked down by the blast.
"Regroup." He heard McHay's steady voice in his ear.
Dazed, Thompson sat upright, and saw four rebels coming at them. It was an ambush, they were expecting the Furians. The four rebels were armed with different kinds of hand weapons. Knives, a hammer and a lead pipe. Thompson reached for his lasgun, but it was too far away. He took out his knife, as three of them were coming his way. He held his knife in a defensive stance. But he sat on the ground, so defending himself would prove hard. Thompson had given up, he would die soon. Two blue las beams struck out through the dust. Gyrin had gotten hold of his lasgun. One of the rebels was shot in the leg, the other beam clipped the shoulder of the other.
That left one for Thompson to take care off. With renewed vigor, he jumped to his feet and lunged towards the rebel. The enemy brought his pipe high, ready to smack it in his face, but Thompson's momentum brought his knife in his belly. They both dropped, rolled around, and Thompson proceeded to stab him in the torso. He stopped after he was sure he had stabbed the life out of him.
The dust settled, and Thompson had sight of his lasgun. He heard the cracks of lasguns behind him, then a yell. He saw Gyrin wrestling with the rebel. He picked up his lasgun, stormed to help Gyrin and dragged the crazed rebel off of Gyrin. Thompson smacked him to the ground, and brought the butt of his rifle down on the rebel's head. His head caved in with a loud crack. Gyrin got back up, scooped his lasgun up, and dropped to his knee, looking through the sights of his rifle. He aimed more carefully, and shot the two wounded rebels dead.
The cracks of lasguns faded, and he saw, through the falling snow, the rest of his squad coming up. He counted only six men. The bulky form of Dunn and his vox were missing.
"Where's Dunn?" asked Gyrin.
"Done." replied McHarl. "Las though the head, the vox is wasted, too."
"Shut it and keep running." The sergeant cut in. "Where's Hajo?"
Thompson indicated the red splattering on the white snow and the walls of the alley. McHay simply raised an eyebrow.
"I'd suggest you shut up, and we start running." Hazjan cut in. "Those halftracks aren't waiting for us."
McHay nodded, and waved them onward, this time taking point himself. The eight remaining scouts ran across open streets and though small alleys. They could hear the enemy all around them, yelling. Those halftrack's engines weren't shutting up either. Hazjan suggested they lay low in a small building, so the squad entered a small, dirty hab. They sat down, on chairs, on the bed and even on the ground leaning against the ground. The tiredness only noticed now, the adrenaline had kept them running. They were catching their breaths, when McHarl cut in.
"Nice job there, sniper. Two K.I.A.'s, some scrapes...And not to mention the whole city looking for us."
"What do we do now, Sarge?" Asked Gyrin.
"The mall's too far away. I saw a road sign, it's still two hours away. We'll look for a radio transmitter of some kind, if the rebels could use them, we could use them to call HQ for help... If they send help." Said McHay, stressing the 'If'.
After fifteen minutes of rest, the eight remaining men of McHay's squad set out again, this time looking for a way out of the warzone
Hazjan had watched their directions, and he could tell that they were close by friendly lines. Not their lines, but friendlies either way. Three miles further down, were the lines of third company. Thompson and the rest of his squad belonged to second company, so their lines were to the right of the third. Everything went well for the first mile, but then they ran into trouble again. A fifteen man patrol of enemies had spotted them. Luckily for Thompson and his squad, cover was close by. They ducked behind cover at the first warning shot, making sure not to get hit.
The squad laid low inside a small blown out building, hugging cover. Eight of them, against fifteen of the enemy. McHay knew they would be overrun soon. The Furians took up positions at windows, the door and even blown out walls. As McHay winged an enemy trooper he saw a radio operator yelling into the horn. Now, the whole enemy army knew of their location. They would send in reinforcements, and McHay and the rest of his squad would die on a planet they didn't even knew the name of. The radio operator tossed the horn aside, done giving coordinates, took up his lasgun and started shooting with the rest of the rebels.
Thompson lay behind cover next to Hendrick behind a blown out wall. The table and chairs provided more then enough cover. Hendrick fired on full auto, forcing the rebels inside cover. Thompson prefered sigle shot, and aimed carefully before taking his shots. He saw the shoulder of one rebel, and carefully took aim only to be too late. Hazjin had taken the shot. Hendrick reloaded his rifle.
"Don't know if we get out of this," he said. "We'll probably die."
"No kidding, vrekhead." Thompson replied.
Hendrick slapped in another pack, and started firing again. Thompson knew he would be out of packs soon, that was Hendrick's second pack he just spent. He wondered how long they would last in this.
Trooper Bojas was screening Hazjan. He had his lasgun on burst-mode, and let off occasional salvos with his lasgun. The tactic worked, Hazjan was able to pick off two rebels. But it was doomed to fail. The rebels were tired of Bojas anoying fire, and one of them tossed a grenade between his legs. Bojas hadn't even noticed this, he was just ducking out of cover letting of another burst of las. The grenade went off, shredding his legs off, throwing him head ver heels against a wall. The middle aged trooper lay shaking in the snow, looking at the stumps that were once his legs. The rest hand't even noticed this, too ocupied with holding off the attackers.
Five of the rebels lay down, dead, but it was just a matter of seconds before halftracks would arive, bolstering the numbers of the attackers. Gyrin could hear the engines rumbling. He pressed the stud of the vox bead in his ear, and spoke.
"Halftacks spotted." He said calmly. And at that moment two halftracks appeared, undoubtly the same that were chasing them not so long ago. The two tracked vehicles stopped and unleashed their cargo. Seven rebels jumped out of each halftrack, bolstering their numbers with fourteen men.
"Concentrate fire." McHay's calm voice cut through the link, and immediatly, all the Furians who had a clear shot, aimed at the dissembarking troops. Three were killed outright by the salvo, with another two wounded and being dragged into cover by their comrades. The Heavy Stubbers answered this fire with their own, taking huge chunks out of the walls and the cover, forcing the defenders to keep their heads down. Trooper Bojas, who was too shocked with the loss of his legs, was riddled by stubber fire.
The Furians were down to seven men now, and the rebels started advancing in on the building. Hazjan took another shot, blasting the head off a sergeant. One of the stubber gunners spotted the sniper and fired on him, forcing him down. The stubber fire was unrelenting, Hazjan couldn't get another shot off.
With one of the stubbers occupied elsewhere, Gyrin took this opportunity to spray the assaulting rebels. Switching to auto, he managed to take down two rebels, but he didn't know they were dead or not. He took a las beam in the shoulder, knocking him over. The las had cauturised the wound, but it hurt like hell. Immediatly, another rebel was almost upon him, but Gyrin was saved by Trooper Laughlin's las beams, two shots and the rebel fell down, dead.
"Enemy almost inside," informed Laughlin, pressing the stud of his vox bead.
This was it. McHay knew this was the end of his life. He just wished he could have died on Furia, peacefully. Suddenly, McHay heard an explosion, followed by Hazjan.
"Here comes the cavalry!" the agile sniper yelled relieved. Enemy fire was slacking for the moment, so McHay could afford to look out of the window a bit more. He saw a squad of Furian Rough Riders, half of them sporting Hunting lances, spears with explosive tips strong enough to penetrate the armor of lightly armored vehicles such as the halftracks. He also saw one of the halftracks burning.
The remaining Furians picked up their las fire, and started cutting down bewildered rebels. One of the Riders had a powersword, and McHay saw him clamping a melta bomb to the second halftrack. The stub gunner tried to take shots at him, but the cavalry officer was too fast for him to take aim at. The officer got out of the way of the explosion just in time. The melta bomb went off, and the halftrack was envelloped by white fire. The officer drew his powersword, activated it, and waved his men at the routing rebels. The officer hacked off the head of a running rebel, the rest of the Riders doing the same with normal swords. Those with hunting lances held back, preserving their lances for vehicles.
Together with lasfire from McHay's squad, the remaining rebels were quickly cut down. After the skirmish, the both officers headed out for eachother. The ten rough riders took up a formation, while the infantry squad came out of the building, bloodied.
McHay had some cuts, Gyrin clutched his shoulder, Thompson supported a limping Hendrick who had been shot in the leg, and Laughlin had a cut on his forhead.
Sergeant McHay stepped forward, slinging his lasgun on his houlder.
"Sergeant McHay, fifth platoon, second company." McHay said. "Sir," he added after seeing the cavalry officer's stripes.
"Captain Evans, seventh cavalry unit attached to third company." The captain looked down from his horse and sheeted his power sword. "Looks like you got a beating here, sergeant. I suggest you head back for our lines, and get some medical attention. The way is cleared, Cavalry has seen to that." And with that the Captain galloped away, the rest of his men following close by.
"Glory hunting basterds" added Laughlin. McHay managed a tight smile, and waved his squad onwards to freindly lines.
Well, the fiction didn't convince you I guess, but no fear! I have a big update right here. So, I painted a lot more Furians, and I think I finally got the hang of the color scheme. Though the lighting is bad, because some colors show off much lighter then in 'real life'. The skin most important thereof. The kin is actually highlighted, and looks ten times better then in the pics, but thats the problem with bad lightning. My old lamp died, and I got a new one, But I miss my old one.
+I assembled 5 rough riders. They don't have hunting lances on them for two reasons. 1) I didn't have any spears and 2) they fight with close combat weapons most of the time. There spears get ruined after first assault.
So here are the pics.
oh, yeah I started on a new project as well. I am not telling anything yet, but the title of the following song will surely give it away. listen to the song (of which I have no doubt you will know of) and guess what project I am starting on. the first one to guess gets a cyber cookie. (I mean those tasty ones, not the mini viruses. )
Well, I'm gonna take a wild shot and guess you're gonna be doing up some orks, particularly in a yellow fashion? But, good work on these latest troopers. They look good, besides the somewhat uneven glow emanating from the plasma gun. I would suggest a bit of fixing there may be in order, but besides that your guardsmen are looking ripe and ready to ambush.
I also like the cavalry conversions. The horses suit the guardmen's size pretty well, though the cowboy legs look a bit off.
Good stuff Scrazza , havent read your fiction yet but will get around to it, your Cav Conversions are nice especially like the leader with the sword, you did a good job of hiding most size differences, its tricky isnt it?
Hell, yeah it is! But with most of them, they just look slender up close, which is good. I think. Thanks for the kind words hehe the first to notice the fiction.
Bad Moon orks are the type. What's it gonna be, a full army or just a unit of 2 for a while? But yeah, I read the fiction when you posted but didn't leave a comment. Thought I did, but I guess I didn't I like the writing style, especially the use of a different curse. Regional words always add a bit of flavour
ding ding ding! a cyber cookie forLod Kaeser II. well it's going to be a full army, but Iamgoing to start a new P&M blog for them just so Ican keep this one forcused on guard and necromunda and the ocasionall small project.
Thanks, Kaesar. I think I need to find a forum focussed on 40k fanfiction. I kinda likewriting up fan fiction.
Hi everyone. I am shamelessly bumping this P&M blog. I am starting to gain interest in my first guard army. I bought some cadian guardsmen wich I will slighly convert. Expect pictures within the week. as for now, I have a batrep for you to read through.
so, long awaited updates. I finally got around to finish my newest Guard squad. This time, for my 1st Guard army, the Khazak 17th. Other than that, I also painted up a random sergeant I had lying around. You can see that the two are painted with different techniques, but for the rest of the models, I'm going for the technique I used for the whole squad.
I'm also working on finalizing the two Leman Russes I've been working on, and never got finished. Plus, I'm working on a miniature to represent my custom Guard tank. Rules for the tank can be found in the previous post. I don't know if you can see it from the pictures, but all the belts on the new guardsmen are done with NMM. I think it turned out well, what do you think?
With this, I hope to get this thread back on the road for real.
So, I went to a local gamestore today, and to my surprise and horror, I found out the store was going to move out. Because of this, the store held a 20 or 50 % discount. Smart me, I only bought stuff out the 50 % category. So here's what I got:
