Dark Severance - I'm looking to get everything except the vehicles for Ares, Riff and Sayx.
I've got a $100 EB Assault Trooper.
What's the best way to go about this?
Since there's an alternate BITSIE for free, I'm thinking maybe it is to go with SAYX vs. RIFF as the box set, and adding everything else on individually?
For some reason, you only pay for shipping for pledge levels, not for add-ons, though I can see them eventually changing that?

Hello backers,
After seeing some of you requesting a little bit more information on how each faction plays, we have put together a quick summary so as to give you a better idea of how they work:
ARES
The Ares have strong armored troops that outclass almost all other races in a one-on-one fight. Their great sense of individuality makes them reluctant to follow orders, meaning that they will usually have few command points and cannot play many cards each turn. Ares heroes focus on boosting their squads and armor.
RIFFS
The Riff have regular troops that excel in close combat, but they tend to have weak armor. They have a standard leadership with little focus on equipment, so expect less emphasis on the armory deck. Riff heroes focus on direct damage and close combat boosts.
SAYX
The Sayx have regular troops which come with a variety of equipment options. They have great leadership, meaning that they can play a lot of cards each turn. Sayx heroes focus on deck and initiative control, and on using krithium as efficiently as possible.
HARVESTERS
The Harvesters have cheap troops that don’t excel at anything, however they excel at krithium usage. They are bad at generating command points from heroes, but can harvest it instead from dead enemies. Harvester heroes focus on reviving their troops or sacrificing them for boosts.
As an added bonus, here are a few renders to keep you excited!
"I am fascinated by the behavior of the artificial intelligence that are the Harvesters, and how they handle their "exceptions ". Take this subject for example, Virus, one of the most dangerous of these beings. We theorized that he had a deadly and highly contagious disease when he suffered the assimilation process. However, and even though he is a danger to the rest of the Harvesters troops, he is kept with special care only for his ability to spread the disease within enemy ranks. It’s as if the possibility of increasing the lethality of this being justifies risking their own army. An entire platoon could end up infected by disease if he made a false step or a poorly coordinated maneuver, but of course... that does not usually happen in the Harvester ranks."

After getting some coffee and looking at options more. That is a good point about the Bitsie alternate for free. Honestly the best method that I can see is (KISS) "EB Assault Trooper + Add-ons", no double pledging. Providing I didn't miss any troops and I'm doing my math correctly, it comes to $465 with shipping for 81 miniatures in total.
Otherwise doing a 2x Pledge doesn't really gain you anything extra, unless they decide to give you double stretch goals which doesn't make sense, since they are hero miniatures. With a double pledge it ends up being $510 with shipping, 81 miniatures in total.
EB Assault Trooper: Sayx vs Riff Core Box w/ shipping, $145
Trooper Pledge w/ shipping: 2 Heroes, 1 Combat Force, $95
4 Heroes Add-ons: $60
- Sayx: Bianca Carlsson (free part of pledge)
- Sayx: Jason Ramires (free part of pledge)
- Ares: Bitsie "Operator 31", alternate pose (free as part of stretch goal)
- Ares: Blaze "Operator 10"
- Ares: Brett "Operator 79"
- Riff: Krull Baal
- Riff: Feral Senn
1 Combat Force: $0 (free part of pledge)
- Ares Combat Force
6 Boosters Add-ons: $210
- Ares Light Infatry
- Ares Hyperion Armours
- Riff Berserkers
- Riff Hulks
- Sayx Nightstalkers
- Sayx Vulcans

Spoiler:
It does look like they have warehouses set up in Spain to deal with shipping in to Europe and also USA. It does appear shipping will be coming from the US, I would guess through a third party distributor because I wasn't aware they had offices in the US. If someone did do a 2x pledges, the packages will be shipped in one parcel.
After doing some research on similar amount of resin miniatures and checking rates to US, Canada, Europe, and Australia the shipping rates are fairly close. They are a bit high on some things, but without knowing their planned MSRP on the boosters I don't know if they technically rolled shipping into those costs. It does feel like they averaged out some of the costs to make it easier shipping to RoW, which tend be a large amount in costs. Europe is also a flat rate and depending on where you ship from, shipping to Eastern Europe can almost be double the amount than shipping to Western Europe.
I think if they didn't do double shipping for pledges it would end up costing them 1/3 more in shipping at the very least. Without knowing the geographic locations of all the places I can't fully predict shipping, but based on similar experiences with Board Game KS they could still end up paying $500-5000 more on their end. It isn't a horrible thing and it does seem there is some wiggle room, hence the $85k stretch to allow the customization.
I don't believe they will change it or can at this point. If they consider changing it by adding shipping to Add-ons they risk a huge backlash from it. I was a bit confused by a piece on their FAQ (which they appear to have changed and removed): "We will calculate the shipping cost at the end of the campaign and we'll send it to you to validate."
When I messaged them to ask about it, "What do you mean when you say that you will send it to validate, does that mean the shipping could increase more or decrease or simply just letting people know what the final cost was?"
The response back from them was, "Your shipping costs depend on your pledge level and geographical location, and they will not change at the end of the campaign." I took that meaning is simply based on pledge level, where it is shipping to USA, Europe, RoW and Add-ons will not factor in.
For those interested in the varied shipping costs and breakdowns for something, Stonemaier Games gives a great breakdown of shipping examples based on his own KS shipments here. Granted it is a box game but it gives you an idea just based on his calculations what shipping ended up being. It gives an interesting view on the variance in shipping costs, depending on where the majority of your customers it can end up costing you more. That is however what proper planning is for though so given the experience with their other KS, there hopefully shouldn't be any surprises.
Albino Squirrel wrote: I wish they had gotten some sculpts done for the Sayx or Harvesters since the last Kickstarter. I'd really like some idea how those will turn out.
They have not done any for the Harvesters that I know of yet. Given how they have translated the existing sculpts so far, based on their sketches I'm fairly sure they will be pretty good. As for Sayx they did do Tarko Staklen and also have a video looking him over:
Spoiler:
Sayx, Tarko Staklen:
I am a bit confused because they did state, "Here is an image showing the scale of an Ares Soldier next to a ruler, which stands at around 2-3mm taller than a Human.
The Tarko miniature you see here (Blue) is a KS exclusive model, which is a tiny bit taller than the regular Tarko model previously shown (White)." He does look like the one that comes in the box and I don't see where he says he is a exclusive one (I'll have to ask about that).
Sayx, Tarko Staklen:
I think this is the, white version, they are talking about. His pose is slightly different so there is a small degree of variance.
Here is the video looking at the actual minaiture:
Malkaven wrote: have they said if they want you to add shipping to the pledge of if post KS is ok?
Their reply was basically: "It is up to you"
I would still recommended people to do it now as it adds to the campaign total but if you can't no problem in adding it later
The counterpoint to that would be that enhancing the pledge level with your shipping hurts FF twice. First it artificially enhances their total and increases the likelihood of having to give people free stuff with no extra sales to compensate and secondly it means Kickstarter and Amazon payments will take their cut of the shipping, whereas if it is added later via a pledge manager or direct requests then the cut from whatever servic they use is normally considerably smaller.
Maybe somebody should mention that in the FF comments as folk are actually starting to add postage costs on. If Artemis mentions it people will do the opposite what he recommends.
Pilgrim_uk wrote: Maybe somebody should mention that in the FF comments as folk are actually starting to add postage costs on. If Artemis mentions it people will do the opposite what he recommends.
At this point I would want until we at least pass 90K. I would like to hear what they keep hinting at. Other than upgrading the PDF playmats to actual playmats or adding a booster, I'm not sure what new 'hidden' surprise they have. They seem to think it will be great... which it could be but I also know sometimes creators think something is really cool and everyone else is like 'meh'.
Gotta love the Internet. The guy who was repeatedly claiming the last Kickstarter was in plastic is now responsible for multiple people adding their postage to their pledge. I'm pretty certain I saw Scale say 'You can add it you want' instad of 'please God don't add it now' so to be fair he's not entirely to blame.
(I am assuming it's because he just says things in longform with bg words rather than he argued with me and I'm Satan ala Pilgrims explanation ).
I think the big news is the addition of the campaign book?

Alpharius wrote: Yeah, I'd definitely say it is smarter and more helpful for Scale Games if people do NOT add in their shipping now!
In the short term it really shouldn't matter. For the purpose of running a campaign, numbers always increasing are actually more useful than not increasing. Part of proper planning for a KS, the project manager should have already calculated the Kickstarter and Amazon fee's to determine their actual fund goal, along with stretch goals. KS does charge 5% and amazon charges 3-5% (depending if the funds came from a bank account, US credit card, International credit card or amazon stored funds).
It also greatly depends on what backer kit / pledge manager service they use. They could create their own and bypass a lot of fee's, there still tend to be credit card fees though for them. It is usually easier to use a service, then you don't have to deal with any security issues on your side. For an example I'll use the most common one used today, which is backerkit.com. It could potentially be worse depending on what backer kit service they use and what plan/services they use. Some backer kits charge 2-5% of your campaign funds and can have a clause to pull another 0-20% of funds raised in the backer kit. It is all really planning on the project manager side to determine if they expect to get a lot of dollars coming from the kit or if they don't. And some people have made the wrong choice unfortunately because they didn't think there would be a lot of add-ons.
For an example let us say it would of been $100,000 KS campaign if everyone added in shipping costs.
Spoiler:
Given the current numbers and averaging out the shipping costs for region for FF, we will say the campaign actually ended with $85,606... $14,394 would of been the total of shipping costs. Amazon will pull 3-5% in fees: $2568 - $4280
Simple Plan: 0% of campaign funds, 20% of funds raised in Backerkit + $299 fee:
- $3177.80 + amazon fee's = $5745.80 - $7457.80
Standard: 1% of campaign funds, 5% of funds raised in kit + $299 fee:
- $1874.06 + amazon fee's = $4442.06 - $6154.06
Entrepreneur: 2% of campaign funds, 0% of funds raised in backer kit + $299 fee:
- $2011.12 + amazon fee's = $4579.12 - $6291.12
Now let's say that same campaign did end at $100,000, everyone included their shipping as part of the campaign.
Spoiler:
Amazon will pull 3-5% in fees: $3000 - $5000
Simple Plan: 0% of campaign funds, 20% of funds raised in Backerkit + $299 fee:
- $299 + amazon fee's is = $3299 - $5299
Standard: 1% of campaign funds, 5% of funds raised in kit + $299 fee: $1299
- $1299 + amazon fee's is = $4299 - $6299
Entrepreneur: 2% of campaign funds, 0% of funds raised in backer kit + $299 fee: $2000
- $2000 + amazon fee's is = $5000 - $7000
If you chose the correct option, the difference is only a few hundred dollars which should already been in your budget. This is of course assuming that 0 funds, other than shipping costs, are raised when the pledge manager is open. We all of course know that would be highly unlikely that the only amount obtained would be shipping. However the amount of savings, of when they add shipping does tend to wash out and not really matter.... unless they took the Simple Plan, which has happened.
So using the above examples and numbers, lets be a little more realistic. Given its the holiday, how the campaign is going and the assortment of forces we can safely predict that they could gain another $50,000 through the pledge manager, especially if they decide to open it up to new backers. Infamy is already at $7200, MERCS Recon is well past $150,000... granted I'm not putting this on that scale so I'm basing it off a combination of KS data.
Starting with our $100,000 campaign if everyone added in shipping costs, that ended at $85,606 because everyone didn't add in their shipping costs. Now we'll add in the $50,000 made in the pledge manager and recalculate:
Spoiler:
Amazon will still be pulling 3-5% in fees: $2568 - $4280.
Simple Plan: 0% of campaign funds, 20% of funds raised in Backerkit + $299 fee:
- $12,878.80 + amazon fee's = $15,446.80 - $17,158.80
Standard: 1% of campaign funds, 5% of funds raised in kit + $299 fee:
- $4374.06 + amazon fee's = $6942.06 - $8654.06
Entrepreneur: 2% of campaign funds, 0% of funds raised in backer kit + $299 fee:
- $2011.12 + amazon fee's = $4579.12 - $6291.12
Again the same campaign ending at $100,000, everyone included their shipping as part of the campaign. Now we'll add in the $50,000 made in the pledge manager and recalculate:
Spoiler:
Amazon will still pull 3-5% in fees: $3000 - $5000
Simple Plan: 0% of campaign funds, 20% of funds raised in Backerkit + $299 fee:
- $10299 + amazon fee's is = $13299 - $15299
Standard: 1% of campaign funds, 5% of funds raised in kit + $299 fee: $1299
- $3799 + amazon fee's is = $6799 - $8799
Entrepreneur: 2% of campaign funds, 0% of funds raised in backer kit + $299 fee: $2000
- $2000 + amazon fee's is = $5000 - $7000
It is fairly clear that a larger campaign should be using Entrepreneur plan, although it has been my experience that a good portion still end up picking Standard plan. Again though the differences in amounts, in terms of when they add shipping aren't that great. You aren't saving the company themselves a lot of money. It is a double edged sword though, because by not adding in shipping you could be hurting your campaign if people don't believe stretch goals are obtainable. That tends to have to do with the stretch goal choices, the amount differences between stretch goals, when they reveal, etc. There unfortunately isn't one set of rules to follow as each campaign tends to operate slightly different in terms of what their backers want and directions they can go.
In the case of FF since we're dealing with $10k stretch goals, there is more than enough leeway to account for inflation from the shipping... in particular it would be more helpful for their campaign. Some campaigns when they have $5k stretch goals and they are throwing freebies left and right or new sculpts, it could potentially could bite them in the end. Infamy for example had stretch goals varying from $2000-$7000 between. They weren't bad stretch goals, their market is slightly different and it worked out for them. Mercs on the other hand had $30-50k, but you were getting a lot of miniatures because they were in plastic. They are also a bigger company so the tooling was for plastic, they are also bigger company. FF given what they are given out though couldn't follow either of those paths, they sort of have to develop their own. Some of them have been pretty good and some are average but overall I don't think there will be issues. So far they have given themselves enough leeway and room given the information that is out there.

Unfortunately that is kind of a meh for me. Campaigns can be popular but since they haven't released enough information, demo's of gameplay and what that campaign includes... it doesn't pull me in. I'm sure, it will however for those that like Harvesters. If it came with a couple miniatures or a boss or some new mechanic, then maybe it could be interesting.
After skimming through rules though, starting to sort through fighting styles... I'm going to make a modified home brew and call it Craft Wars (can't call it Star Craft and can't call it Star Wars)... but for some reason playing Star Craft reminded me of this game. It is probably due to the resource management, gaining minerals, managing your forces. Drop your command center, troops on planet, use them to create your foot-hold to move forward and create more troops. I could fashion Ares Troopers like Terrain Marines. ^_^
I still think it is a mistake to include shipping now and have it potentially 'unlock' stretch goals - but I guess this is only a problem if they're not smart about it, and they seem to be a bit better...prepared and organized this time around.
I'm just glad to see this one doing well and moving forward.
A lot of assuming a lot of things DCM and I will assume the Project manager knows what he is doing. They do read this forum and this thread have said nothing here so silence is acceptance that they are willing to take a hit or not.
Most campaigns do have people add on shipping... I think I've actually only backed 1 or 2 campaigns (out of almost 100!) where I had to add it on later.
I think smart creators account for it in their stretch goals already... but certainly having it be "optional" to add it is probably not ideal, as you can't totally account for it either way then in calculating how much has been raised.
In all KS in which I participated, I pay for shipping during the KS and when I get the PM runs using that money to buy things and I had to pay again for shipping So after all might not be bad idea
Caballero Negro wrote: In all KS in which I participated, I pay for shipping during the KS and when I get the PM runs using that money to buy things and I had to pay again for shipping So after all might not be bad idea
Actually, that's a very good point, and will probably be the case for many of us here too!
Yeah, seems to me it makes more sense for the companies running the KS projects to not charge for shipping until they last minute when they have the actual shipping costs.
Both strategies make sense in some ways, but certain creators (like Tre Manor) have tried both and gone back to just charging a fee for it during the campaign.
It's a bit of a logistical headache to get every backer to pay you twice - most campaigns seem to have backers they can't get in touch with easily afterwards, which means they'll have rewards sitting around that they cannot ship, but which they can't get rid of, either.
So yeah, I personally really prefer to pay for everything at once, but I can understand campaigns which charge separately.
Alpharius wrote: I guess it is an added incentive to ship 'on time'.
I can only imagine how much 'extra shipping' Kingdom Death is going to have to pay now...
Yeup.
I think it's probably very different for someone like Tre that is shipping miniatures only, as opposed to here and with companies like CMoN, MERCS, etc, that are shipping large packages with tons of add on options.
If Adam laid out to us how much he's going to end up having to pay extra for shipping, I could probably be persuaded (who am I kidding, almost certainly would be) to pay a little bit more for shipping because I don't want him to get completely fethed by that, because I do care about the product line and his long term business health.
It wouldn't surprise me one bit if the additional resin releases we're seeing are to help defer some of those shipping costs.
It's not so much of a hassle if you aren't offering 'free stuff' stretch goals as then it only hits you once and you can account for it much more easily.
In a campaign like this though, with a heavy boxset and therefore high shipping costs then the main thing that I'd be worried about is that if this hits 700 backers, which I think is a reasonable number, then that's 700 x $25-$60, let's be generous and say an average shipping of $35, 700 of those is 25 'thousand' dollars. Added to your campaign, unlocking 2-3 stretch goals, possibly of freebies so zero increase in actual sales (There may be a minor increase in sales if the unlocks are add ons). For example if you added that right now they'd have to give away pretty much a thousand free figures. So they have to hope this falls on unlock stretch goals, which normally are more common in the middle stages of a campaign while freebies get put in at the end to help with the closing spike.
Sending out shipping invoices manually via Paypal will net around $7-800 in fees, leting KIckstarter and Amazon take a chunk nets around $2000+. I'd pay someone to send shipping invoices later to save over a thousand dollars not even taking into account the possible thousands of free minis.
While we're talking numbers, it occurs to me that our previous calculations/estimates of costs to them etc. have't taken into account VAT. This kickstarter will almost certainly qualify them for it, if they aren't VAT registered as Scale 75 already. I doubt incorporating in Texas will help as the work is being done in Spain.
Artemis Black wrote: It's not so much of a hassle if you aren't offering 'free stuff' stretch goals as then it only hits you once and you can account for it much more easily.

It is if you have purchasable add-ons at all.
Honestly, I think the way CMoN is doing it now is probably the best way to do it. You estimate shipping, and then you have actual shipping at the end. The only better way is probably offering a "shipping credit."
I get that shipping is a pain in the ass for everyone involved, but I think, as a whole, we're far too spoiled by Amazon and Amazon Prime shipping. We shouldn't expect small companies running a KS to subsidize our shipping costs.
cincydooley wrote: Honestly, I think the way CMoN is doing it now is probably the best way to do it.
I'm shocked that you would say this, cincy, absolutely shocked
(Just kidding )
That's fair
But really, the free shipping is nice and all, but I don't mind paying for shipping. Again, I think Amazon has spoiled a lot of people and given them unrealistic expectations regarding shipping in general.

Sometimes, but not in this particular case. The costs associated with an 'add on' for this company are minimal really so unlocking them doesn't do any real damage. We can assume they plan on actually making the figures anyway so all that activating an extra purchasable add on does is bring forward those costs to be included int he kickstarter, and that would be offset by anyone purchasing said add on.
The worst case scenario would be to unlock something unpopular with the shipping, in which case they are paying for sculpting/printing/moulding and casting for minimal sales. Nothing compared to giving 700 pledgers a free large scale character figure in multipart resin. Those freebie adds ons will 'hurt'.
cincydooley wrote: Yeah, seems to me it makes more sense for the companies running the KS projects to not charge for shipping until they last minute when they have the actual shipping costs.
It does but it is sometimes difficult to do for big projects because of sticker shock. I've heard some outrage at various KS because their shipping costs were so high and it was unexpected. It is used to be that creators calculated estimate, add 6-10% and absorb them as part of distrubtion cost. It is now becoming more of a trend to add shipping at the end of the campaign, charging what the actual total may be. Depending on who they use for shipping (distribution, simple postal service, ups, fedex) the differences can vary greatly from $5-50.
One of the harder things for a smaller KS (I'm not saying that this one is a smaller one) is trying to find that balance. For example something that costs $6 in the US, costs me $30 to send to Canada and Europe through normal postal means. Granted a lot of that is dependant on weight and packaging, which is why a lot of KS may have one retail box, with the rest being loose in bundles.
Artemis Black wrote: Added to your campaign, unlocking 2-3 stretch goals, possibly of freebies so zero increase in actual sales (There may be a minor increase in sales if the unlocks are add ons).
To be fair though their campaign isn't unlocking a lot of freebies, they are in terms of a couple single miniatures but compared to other campaigns where you'd get more. Not to mention their stretch goals are fairly spaced out.
cincydooley wrote: Honestly, I think the way CMoN is doing it now is probably the best way to do it. You estimate shipping, and then you have actual shipping at the end. The only better way is probably offering a "shipping credit."
I believe that is the safest way, at least for a companies who may not have experience with shipping or contracts through distribution centers. Give an estimate, have it applied as a credit at the end to go towards the actual amount. It helps avoid sticker shock for some.

No doubt.
That's honestly, why I tend to be more hesitant to back projects that won't be distributed from the US. It have to do a cost-benefit analysis for myself to determine if the KS cost + shipping is worth it for me. For instance, Heroes of Normandie's first KS was not worth it for me due to the shipping.
I know that it's much easier for me to say that being from the US, where the majority of the projects either originate or are routed through, but it's just how it is. I've picked up multiple KS projects at conventions in part because I know it saves the company I'm patronizing money.
cincydooley wrote: Anything that has any additional weight or volume will factor into the shipping costs.
Doesn't matter if they're "free" or not.
Well yes, but $15 resin figures add virtually nothing to the weight of a box already in large postal categories compared to the profit from the figure itself. They'd have to be very unlucky for that 20 grams to even push them into a new postal bracket so the most likely outcome is additions of single figures have zero effect on shipping. Once you're past 1kg, as the boxset will certainly be, then it's negligible costs for extras.
Having to give 700 large multipart resin figures away is a far bigger expenditure. If they were 'really' unlucky that could be 1400 large multipart resin figures. (At the moment it's neither as the only freebies on the stretch goal list will all be unlocked without postage I would think and they aren't showing what's after $140k.
Hmm some weird drop of like 2k in the pledges occurred. It seems that scale games contacted people and its mostly due to financial occurrences on some peoples parts but I wonder why you would change now? I mean doesnt it make sense to make changes at the end? Then again maybe thats just me. I just dont like to see that total drop below 90K. Not cool. I mean I know a lot of people are going to be adding a lot of money post KS but still I hope most stay in for what they got.

I have 6 Kickstarters ending shortly and 4 pledge managers closing in 4 weeks. There has definitely been some shifting around on my part (not with this campaign) but it happens. There could be a lot of different reasons, new medical bills, kids needs glasses, car got a flat and needs a new set of tires. I just replaced the breaks in my truck and a new battery, I almost pulled out of 2 campaigns myself to cover... thankfully my bonus covered me.
Someone did a Battle Rep, testing out the alpha rules for Fallen Frontiers and posted it on Facebook here:
Got a game in to Playtest today. I used the Ares alpha list and my buddy used the Riff alpha list. His list contained an assault squad led by Sihlas Fenn, a trooper squad with an officer, and a trooper squad with a heavy machinegunner. My list contained a soldier unit with both a sergeant and a gauss gunner, and a soldier squad with Bitsie. We set up the battlefield with the objective in the middle, and the four Krithium deposits. Riff setup first, and the Ares setup second. Ares win initiative and made the Riff activate first. (Pay no attention to my army loitering on the side)
The end of round 1.1 (round.phase), we moved into position around our deposits and figured out who was going to break the ice. By 1.3, Riff sent their middle trooper squad towards the objective. Bitsie squad chews them up pretty well, Sihlas squad moves behind the tower on the right. 2.1 comes around. I had taken the initiative in both 1.3 and 1.4. I won the initiative roll for 2.1. My Bitsie squad had taken a hit from the heavy machinegunner and the Riff player pinned them. Sihlas squad moved within assault range.
Here was my Ares dilemma. If I take initiative, two things happen. Bitsie would have to take her pinning morale check, and if she misses I am out a full squad and hero. I would also be fatigued, so my shooting would be at a disadvantage as well as an assault. If I pass the initiative, Sihlas gets the assault, and I would have a pinned disadvantage during my turn. I decided to try to take the initiative. I killed two of Sihlas squad, lessening the effect of his assault. Missed on the left hand side (where everyone is afraid of poking their head out. Sihlas assaults, gets three hits and miraculously I save them all. This would end up being a long combat because we kept missing or tying in casualties.
By the end of the game, Riff ended up getting two activations in a row setting up a move and fire against the left hand Ares squad, decimating them. Bitsie's squad finally took out Sihlas, but she was reduced to her and two soldiers. These were cut down eventually by the Riff machine gunner, securing the win for the Riff.
Conclusions: There needs to be a starting level of command and Krithium. Waiting four phases before you can really use any cards was rough. We felt a good compromise would have been to give 3 command/3 Krithium to start, and then reduce the end of turn amounts by one automatic point each, and one per hero/leader and one per Krithium deposit.
Sihlas and the assault units seemed to lack a bit of shock and awe when assaulting. I rolled my saves really well, but it seems like my Ares should have feared them a bit more than I did.
Overall, we felt the Ares were a bit stronger overall, but with the small amount of units and cards, we're overlooking that at the moment.
All in all, we had a great time, and really love how the base system works so far. The timing of fatigue and activations make for some very stressful decisions, and we really liked it. Will play another game next weekend!
Exactly as Dark says gak happens dont read too much into it. I just had to shell out $800 on new tyres and already owe one sculptor for his work .
Stopping from dropping to $1 myself as I will spend about $100 on single heroes anyway so keeps the total I'm going to invest. Unless a painters pledge appear but that's looking less likely.
Choose your own heroes for stretch goals!

Greetings backers,
We have been listening to your feedback, and today we bring you something which had been on our minds since we introduced the custom starter set: the ability to choose your own heroes for stretch goals.
This is how things are changing:
At $60k, $100k and $110k we unlock a free hero of your choice. This can be any hero from the add-ons section, regardless of faction.
Some heroes are going to be unlocked earlier. Bitsie has been moved to $55k, Hank has been moved to $97,5k ad Fink has been moved to $105k.
Magnus and Alexander have been added as $92,5k stretch goals as a complement for the Tharken 17 campaign (background story coming soon).
Of course we still have some more hidden surprises, so stay tuned!
Definitely a great idea to allow choice of hero as well. I hope those changes will help bring some new life to the campaign... but with the holidays, we might already be at the limits considering the other Kickstarters currently happening. Not that I don't mind, at this point everything is gravy. I do expect there to be a bigger push though towards the last 48 hours with this one.
It does make a dedicated painters pledge kind of pointless now if you are getting 7 heroes plus the box set at a cheaper price than buying 7 heroes individually.
To be honest its something they should have done from the beginning is give the customer choice. Hindsight is a wonderful thing though.

It depends, the heroes in the box set are still locked in depending on the factions you choose for your core set. You don't get to choose those. However a Core Set is a better choice for painters, more miniatures with now the bonus to be able to choose heroes that are unlocked. At the moment we've only unlocked one, hopefully we'll break $110k by the end of the campaign and unlock 2 others.
Yes but you are going to pick a core set you want so you are going to get a hero set you want. I'm hoping 110k will be an easy hit be surprised if its not. Actually I forgot about the $15 price for changing the core set.
TWG (Talk Wargaming) did a product review of one of the miniatures, a Riff Berserker. There are images of the pieces, detail as well as comparison photo next to Warhammer 28mm and Malifaux 32mm miniatures:
http://tinyurl.com/m7n9243
I'll be really happy if it gets to $130K though - as I'm sure Scale Games will be too!
I just want all the heroes to unlock...
Anyway, loving the Vulcan art in this latest update!
Update #24

Presenting: Sayx Vulcans

Since the Sayx first encountered Ares operators at Magellan they realized that the firepower of their regular troops was insufficient to confront their new enemy. Even their elite units found enormous difficulties in penetrating the thick armor of Ares troops. At that moment began the Vulcan project: An armored suit agile enough to deploy in squadrons from a ship or shuttle and capable of piecing any personal or light vehicle armor.
Vulcans are deployed as mobile weapon platform and provide covering fire to advancing ground troops. Their long range and high firepower excel at clearing andvance corridors and help in covering strategic areas of the battlefield. The Vulcans have a high defense but they are not prepared for combat at close range, and their lack of mobility can make them vulnerable in melee.
This Friday we are going to be done with our second week on kickstarter, and so we wanted to give you all a little treat for sticking with us this long. Now we cannot tell you exactly what we are going to be doing yet, however “someone” sent me this little image and I just had to share it with you...
Despair
Jeri Hansen was the seventh child out of nine. A star pupil and she excelled at gymnastics too. She was the star flag twirler for her college gymnastic team, no one could match her grace and cat like reflexes. But that afternoon at the colony stadium everything was so fast not even she could react.
She was struck by some kind of stunning beam and fell immediately to the ground. A blurred shape was before her, as her eyes began to focus she saw a mechanical body looking down at her with eyes glowing red. Once Jeri was fully awake and aware she realized everybody surrounding her was dead. Thousands of them.
“Please designate your identity.”, she heard in her head. “Are you going to kill me too?” “No, you are a valuable exception. Please designate your identity.”
She said nothing. All she could think of was that her family and relatives were probably among the dead bodies. The metallic voice then said:
“Despair is now your designated identity, prepare for orders.”
But she wasn’t prepared for the pain that followed.
We passed the $92,000 mark and have unlocked two new heroes, Harvester Magnus and Ares Alexander "Operator 03". They are still hinting at surprise tomorrow, so we shall see what they have up their sleeve. I would have to guess a discount on something, maybe shipping since that seems to be the current 'complaint' at the time.
Update 26: Gameplay Example: Phases & Fatigue
Spoiler:
Today we are going to show you a simple example of how Initiative, Phases and Fatigue interact with each other, which should give you a better idea of how the game plays. Note that in this tutorial we are not going to be talking about hero, resource and card interaction, which will be covered later.
Here you can see a very basic table setup. The Ares player has deployed 3 squads at the top, whilst the Riffs player has deployed 3 squads at the bottom.
The players roll-off for Initiative, and the Ares player wins, so he gets to activate his units on Phase 1. He decides to move all of squads forward, taking cover behind crates and containers.
The players roll-off for Initiative, and the Ares player wins again, so he gets to activate his units on Phase 2. He pushes forward with his middle squad, and he shoots with the other two. The left squad gets a couple of hits, but the Riffs armor deflects them. The right squad manages to inflict 2 wounds, and they are assigned to the two Berserkers in the open.
Since the Ares player already had Initiative twice during this round, the Riffs player automatically gets the Initiative from now on. On Phase 3 the Riffs player is not too worried about taking hits, so he moves his Berserkers into the open, lining them up for an Assault. He moves the other two squads forward and into cover, so that the Ares are in range of their carbines.
The Riff player decides to go all out on Phase 4, and opens fire on the Ares with his two Riffs squads. The left squad manages to inflict 2 wounds despite shooting at enemies in cover, whilst the center squad doesn’t score a single hit. The Berserkers assault the Ares unit behind the crates, inflicting 3 wounds and avenging their fallen brothers.
Round 1 is over, and Round 2 begins. The players roll-off and the Riffs player wins. Taking the Initiative on this Phase means that his units are going to be fatigued, but it seems worth it. The player assaults the Ares squads with his Berserkers, which destroy the enemy. The center squad moves up, albeit slower because it is fatigued. The left squad opens fire on the Ares, but their shots fail to connect, again due to fatigue.
The players roll-off and the Ares player wins, taking Initiative for Phase 2. The two squads are activated and reign doom on the Riffs with their assault rifles, killing 2 Riffs and destroying the Berserker squad.
That’s it for right now. We hope you enjoyed this little gameplay example, and if you have any questions please post them in the comments below!
For those of you who missed them, we have made two fairly important updates, which we think you should definitely check out.
First we have posted a gameplay example going over the phase and fatigue rules. This should give you a good feeling of how the game plays. Read more here: http://kck.st/15D5tnC
Second we have posted a little tease regarding what we are calling Black Freeday. We can’t tell you what exactly it is yet, but the name should be a hint. Read more here: http://kck.st/1xGW598
DIANNE TIANSEEN
The rank of lieutenant sixth grade is not something that is handed out easily in the Sayx Corporation.
It requires many skills, no scruples and a little luck to achieve it. Of course being a senior commander of the fleet you make a lot of enemies, but with the proper strategy many of them end up losing their lives on the field of battle. Heroes for the corporation, an inspiration for the troops, and also one less problem for his supreiors.
With 5 campaigns on her shoulder, Dianne has seen many conflicts and has managed to emerbe victorious from all of them. Ares, Riffs, Humans and even the sheep-like herds of Harvesters end up succumbing to a well-trained army. With the right equipement the enemies makes no difference, the only difference is the fluid spilled when they are shot.
You can see Dianne’s render here:
BIANCA RENDER
Finally we have a new render to show you guys, this time Bianca Carlson!

I wonder what got this one going again?
Maybe a lack of truly 'good deals' in the USA "Black Friday" sales?
Not entirely sure but there is some truth on the Black Friday sales. I know someone from our game group brought the discussion over to reddit in a couple places. I also suggested they start a note on Board Game Geek in the Kickstarter section. They had one post in the News Press area, but nothing in the Kickstarter section. Not sure if that contributed at all, but it did start a couple discussions in those areas. Maybe its the holiday weekend and people are looking at Kickstarter while waiting for Turkey? ^_^ Still nice seeing a continual gradual climb in backers though, haven't been losing any just fluctuating totals.
Fallen Frontiers is heading into its last week of funding, so let’s kick it off with a bang!
As some of you may have noticed, we are not doing Black Friday deals today, but instead we are having our own special day: Black Feeday!
To thank all of you for your generous support, we are giving out FREE stuff to all people who pledged at the Assault Trooper level or higher, and the higher level you pledged, the more goodies you get!
The Fallen Frontiers Spreadsheet was updated, includes Black Freeday, updated Stretch Goals unlocks and Add-ons.:
http://tinyurl.com/mq65j2m
Hhmmmm now to do some recalculating on what to get. But first breakfast and lots of coffee.
Edit: If you do a double pledge (2x Battle Squad) you do not receive double stretch goals, 2x Free Heroes... but you do get double Black Freeday specials (2x Free Hero, 10 Scenic Bases, 2 Scenery resin elements. That could potentially make for a couple friends who want to split an army, a better deal than both getting 2x Assault Trooper. Hypothetical though, I haven't actually done the math for it yet. Had to chase the dog down, she broke out of the fence and was playing in the neighbors muddy yard. So I have been fixing a fence all day.
Forgot about this but it looks like I caught it at a good enough point. I'll have to review the offerings but currently I think I'll jump in at ASSAULT TROOPER.
Today we are going to show you an example of the cards and units interact with each other. Note that this a simplified example for illustration purposes, and that some of the card text is going to change.
The table setup is pretty straightforward. The Ares player is on top with 1 squad, whilst the Riffs player is at the bottom with 2 squads, one of which contains Sihlas Fenn. The Riffs player also has a “March” card in his hand.
The Riff player, knowing that his Berserkers excel in close combat, has a clever plan. Since the Ares troopers are outside of the Berserkers assault range, he is going to use the “March” card to help him close the gap. “March” allows his Berserkers to move 2 extra inches, and with the special ability of Sihlas Fenn, which allows his squad to move D3 extra inches, that should be plenty to assault.
The Riffs have the initiative, and the player sets his plan in motion. He declares an assault, which allows his Berserkers to move 6”. Then he rolls a D3 for Sihlas Fenn’s ability, and gets a 2, allowing his Berserkers to move 8”. Finally he plays the March card by spending 1 Command point, which allows his Berserkes to move 10”, reaching the Ares troopers.
However before he gets to move, his opponent plays the “Cyber Hack” card. “Cyber Hack” has a Reaction effect, meaning it can be played during the Riffs players turn, and it nullifies the effects of “March”.
After having resolved all cards effect, they are both discarded, and now the Riffs player gets to complete his actions. He moves both of his squads forward, trying to set up an assault for the next phase. Note that the Berserkers still get to move 8” thanks to Silhas Fenn’s ability.
The next phase starts, and the Ares have the Initiative. The player decides to make the Ares troopers shoot at the Berserkers, and manages to inflict 3 wounds. However before the wounds are resolved, the Riffs player uses a “First Aid” card. “First Aid” allows a unit to remove wounds on a result of 4+. The player rolls 3 dice, and scores 4+ only 1 time, meaning that the Berserkers lose 2 models.
That’s it for right now. We hope you enjoyed this little gameplay example, and if you have any questions please post them in the comments below!
Cyber Monday is here, and with it we are proud to announce the reveal of: THE DAMNED!
The Damned is a collection of mercenary heroes that offer their “services” to multiple armies. Each one of these heroes can be used in several armies, expanding your strategic possibilities further.
As a special treat we are offering these heroes at a special discount price of $12 each until the end of the campaign!
That’s it for now, make sure to check back with us later when we post a bit of background story on these heroes!
Just so everyone knows they did say that "until the end of the campaign", both for Black Freeday and Cyber Monday deals, means until the after the 'pledge manager' closes. Although It would be great to get the full backing now, they understand that it is the holidays and don't want anyone to miss out on these deals. At the very least you have to be in the $1 pledge to get access to the pledge manager but from there you will be upgrade and still have access to these specials.
But I love Bianca... although the pose is a bit different. I do think they will have to adjust as it could have issues with casting. They did say they were looking at making a tabard option for those that don't want to look at her ass though :p
I liked Bianca as well but from the artwork. We all know a mini can change in those subtle ways from artwork to physical but I just didn't like the changes. Since its a just a render its good to let the creators know what I don't like about the render. For me It just seems a rather unnatural pose. The extra sword I like but both seem out of place as well. Upturned left hand and raised right hand look in mid action as if placing inside scabbards? (to me they do) but no scabbards exist. The left hand sword rising is also also reminiscent of the Scale 75 DARK Elf. It also the same the leg pose which I was not a fan of (but have the figure). Had a good larf at the booty shot ( parking a bike etc) but thats just merely aesthetic and since its a work in progress not a really an issue. Why go with a figure that only a certain number of people liked when everybody liked the original artwork. ( this is sheer conjecture on my part, I dont know if "everybody" really liked the original artwork but it was pretty positive) Was it the same unanimous vote on the new render. Seemed more division to me.
Some folk might think by picking on one figure out all the heroes is just nit picking. If scale 75 want to give us the best product they can then should we not help them. If they do decide to go with the new render I'm cool with that as well.

If you were to say the latter regarding something, you most definitely would be disagreed with on Dakka, or anywhere that discusses miniatures. Your using the terms interchangeably makes it extremely hard to tell what you're talking about. When you say "40mm minis" it sounds like you're saying "40mm scale minis". Just like people say "28mm minis" referring to GW, or "32mm minis" referring to Privateer Press, or "35mm minis" referring to Kingdom Death or Arena Rex.
However, after you've made one additional post regarding scale in the wargaming industry, I do ask that you take further discussion of it to an independent thread, and allow this one to focus on the Fallen Frontiers campaign.
For those interested... I did actually take the scale in wargaming industry discussion to an independent thread here. I haven't responded beyond the initial post to allow people to make their own posts, without having any interference or direction based on what was being discussed previously.

The pose does seem slightly unnatural if we basing it from using a real metal blade vs lightsaber or nano-extending metal blade like weapon. It does seem completely unnatural if we are talking a normal metal blade because there is a lack of scabbards. That type of blade wouldn't be carried open typically. Since it is scifi though and the lack of scabbards, it leads me to believe the blade is more like a lightsaber than a real blade. In a couple scifi movies and shows, they had similar extending blades that start in the hilt. Using a nano technology to build the blade like Ultraviolet for example.
It is reaching a bit without proper background on the weapons and tech. However lets assume something that extends from the hilts, with them being stored loosely on the belt... although I'd probably rather have them horizontal on the back of the belt so you reach behind to grab them. She has drawn them and is in the process to flip the one in the left hand around upright, while she is turning to pull the other one across in a defensive position. Or she could be using both to fight in that fashion, for references I'm talking Ahsoka from Star Wars Clone Wars when she uses two blades. There is a particular fighting style that she uses that backs up the pose.

For those that are unaware there is a Fallen Frontiers facebook, it is an unofficial group but Scale75 does have access to it. From what I understand, in the discussion of Bianca and feedback from the group, the 3D sculptor did respond with the following:
I did this work in the middle of campaigning. All this work is for all our fans but is crazy work un this way.
I give you thanks for your feedback and support. It is very important to us.
You have to know that this is a first aprox. to Bianca miniature so I will fix or make it again all and get the best. But we need time to give you the best quality.
We going to give you the best wargame!!!
Thanks again friends
He also goes to add in later:
This my passion, not just a work.
So they are listening and do read things. I believe initially that is what sparked the discussion of a tabard add-on. Some like the tabard idea while others like the booty. It is probably a split down the middle... hahaha!

It isn't always right!
Yeah given what happened with the previous campaign, I believe they have learned that the loudest voice isn't always right. They have, I think at least, done a decent job of trying to make changes, make people happy but staying on track with their own decisions. I mean if we were listening to the loudest voices... these would be 28mm, made in plastic and there would be lots of cheap plastic men that would have been horrible quality.
Free Hero, New Add-Ons, Hidden Unlock & The Damned: Background Story
1 comment
Hello everyone,
Today we have a series of new updates, so let’s get to it!
$100k, New Add-Ons & Beyond
We just hit the $100,000 mark, which is incredible, thank you all for your generous support!
With this stretch goal we have unlocked our second FREE Hero, which means that depending on your pledge level you are now getting up to 5 FREE Heroes! We have come a long way since the start of our campaign, and through Stretch Goals and Black Freeday everyone is getting a ton of extra content.
As a result of hitting the $100k mark we have also decided to make a few items available as add-ons that you have all been waiting for. We are adding a set of 5 Scenic Bases, 3 different Scenery Elements, and we are making a new Heroes Pack available where you get 10 Heroes of your choice for only $130.
Finally we are also looking toward to unlocking our 23rd Hero model if we reach $105,000!
Hidden Unlock: Lee Jenkins
23rd Hero model? Isn’t something missing?
That’s right, we are revealing a hidden unlock as our 22nd Hero model, a mercenary hero in a Vulkan exo-suit: Lee Jenkins!
Lee Jenkins is a mighty hero that towers over the enemy, and is much bigger than your regular heroes. As such he will cost $20, and he may not be chosen as a free hero through Stretch Goals or the Heroes Pack.
“Well Lee, I made the changes you asked on the machine.”
“Perfect.”
“Don't you think that removing an auto-cannon will subtract a lot of firepower?”
“I assure you that when you have a Riff Berserker on top of you, you are not too worried about firepower.”
“A Berserker? Nobody ever asked me for anything to combat them.”
That's because nobody ever survived to do it.”
The Damned: Background Story
Themistocles defended Greece in Marathon during the first Persian invasion and ended his life in the service of the Persian king Artaxerxes I. A warriors life does not always end where it started and those who were your brothers may end up being your enemy. Forsaken, abandoned, or simply looking for a more lucrative life, mercenaries are always a strange presence in any army. However uncomfortable it may be to have an ally that fight for money, it is always better than to have him as an enemy.
Zerobyte
A Sayx assault soldier. His assimilation process by the harvesters was interrupted during an attack on the necrofactory where he was being held. Half human, half machine, all his memories were lost in the transformation, anything before Zerobyte doesn’t matter anymore.
Kyra
Since Kyra’s release from the operators she demonstrated a rebellious character, prone to disobedience. Never seeing her integration into the Ares army as a liberation, for her it was nothing but a change in the color of her armor. When the independence wars ended, Kyra decided to enjoy true freedom. The freedom to wear the uniform of the enemy if necessary.
Val'n Dorr
Val'n Dorr grew up in a troubled colony. As the daughter of diplomats she learned from a young age that an open mind that can adapt to the situation is more likely to survive than unwavering loyalty. Her father sent her to study at an Ares military academy, where she learned to use weapons. No one better than him knew that diplomacy has its limits.
Yeah for another Free Hero. I'm fairly sure we'll get another $10k in the next couple days to unlock a 3rd Free Hero as well. Then they had to go add a Hero pack, now I have to redo all my calculations to figure out how to get what I want. LOL!
For those that haven't seen there was a Product Review/Preview of Riff Berserker done by Talk Wargaming here.
Mr Lee's Painting Emporium also did some pictures and review of Riff Berserkers here.
Alpharius wrote: While you're at it, if you could figure out the best way to get everything for Ares, Riff and Sayx (but NO vehicles), I'd certainly appreciate it!
I am assuming you also are wanting to include the Mercs who can work for those factions too? Sure that is what I've been working on actually. ^_^
Triszin wrote: So If I wanted the Riffs, what/how much would I need to pledge to get them?
Assault Trooper is the best bang for the dollars. Get a Core Box that is Riff vs Ares ($105), Riff vs Sayx ($120), Riffs vs Harvesters ($120). From Riffs that gets you Fink Dradd, Sihlas Feen, Officer, Heavy Weapon, 5 Assaultr Troopers, 10 Riff Troopers and you can also get 2 free hero choices to add-on from stretch goals.
The real question do you want a complete Riff collection? Do you want all the Riff heroes, vehicles, Berserkers and Hulks.. Assault Trooper + Add-ons will still most likely be the best option but once I know what more you want, I can figure out the cheapest route.

Good point - yes, please include the 3 x $12 ($36 total) for the three mercenary heroes.
Thanks!
Also can you doublecheck something for me?
It looks as if we're better off getting the Sayx in the box set as it gets us 5 more troopers than if we get a Sayx 'Combat Force' where we only get 5 troopers and 5 assault troopers.
Is this right?
Ares vs. Sayx and then adding on Riff is the best way to go?
EDIT
Oops!
Looks like the Riffs "Combat Force" 'shorts' us on the minis too compared to the core box version!
Alpharius wrote: It looks as if we're better off getting the Sayx in the box set as it gets us 5 more troopers than if we get a Sayx 'Combat Force' where we only get 5 troopers and 5 assault troopers.
Ares should be purchased as a Combat Force Add-on and the Core box should be Riff vs Sayx for the best dollar. Still working out what is the best for complete 3 factions though (including 3rd free hero too since I am pretty sure we'll unlock it). It is tempting to Elite or Battle, but I think the scenery still makes it more than Assault Trooper.
For clarification. If you are at a $1 Pledge Level and you upgrade to a higher tier later in the Pledge manager, you will NOT get access to stretch goals. You DO get Black Freeday items but not stretch goals. Stretch Goals will be based solely on your pledge when the KS ends in 71 hours.
@William Stilwell . Yes, you wont get Stretch Goals. The pledges that give access to Stetch goals are indicated. But you still get BlackFreeday stuff.
For added clarification when the KS ends if you are at $1 Pledge or $70 Trooper Pledge levels (selected from Manage Pledge button), doesn't matter the dollar amount you are in for, you will NOT get stretch goals... even if you upgrade to a higher tier in the PM later.
If you are at the Assault Trooper pledge or higher when the KS ends in 71 hours, you WILL get stretch goals. Even if you change to a higher tier, say Commander at that time, you will still get stretch goals because you were already Assault Trooper Pledge level (which had stretch goals) or higher when the KS ended.
Uh, what? I specifically asked them about upgrading to get stretch goals a couple of weeks ago, and they said clearly that YES, you will get all stretch goals if you upgrade from $1 after the campaign,

Lets say If I wanted everything the Riff's had to offer (except the vehicles) + Lee Jenkins?

If you go Trooper Pledge ($70), you can get everything Riff related without vehicles for $214. However you do not get stretch goals, really just missing out on the PDF playmat, campaign book and painting DVD.
If you go Assault Trooper Pledge ($105), you can get a Riff vs Ares box and all Riff related without vehicles for $219. You will get the stretch goals, which why it ends up being similar because of free heroes. If we get to $130K that unlocks 2 new Riff heroes but also a 3rd free hero, so you would simply add another $15.
The pricing above doesn't including shipping, so depending on your region add in the shipping. Personally I'd go the Assault Trooper route. You technically could downgrade to Trooper later if you decided that was a better option, but you get more bang for only a few dollars more at AT level.

I'm going through comments trying to determine if it was specific. I know they definitely answered Black Freeday but can't remember on the stretch goals part though. Unfortunately with the new KS interface, it is really annoying.
I messaged Scale about the Stretch Goals and access after the pledge manager. It does appear it was asked and stated that they would get access. I let them know where it was at, so they can figure out if there was a change or a misunderstanding somewhere.
Pilgrim_uk wrote: Just a pity the new Heroes pack is not a pledge. I did ask about postage for heroes but so far its been left unanswered.
If you are just getting heroes, meaning $1 pledge + Heroes pack for $131, shipping would be $25 to USA and Europe and $35 to RoW.
Triszin wrote: Are these discounted through the Kickstarter, or will they be the around the same price after the kickstarter?
I might just piece it out, and paint em and buy a few more and paint em. With my schedule I dont want to feel overwhelmed.
Do you mean retail wise or pledge manager after it closes? They did say the KS prices were discounted and they didn't have a MSRP for them yet. What that discount is and how much is unknown.
Is there a picture anywhere that shows the pledges complete with applicable stretch goals? Trying to decide on which add-ons to grab but I'd like to avoid purchasing anything already coming my way.
So far just adding Kyra as she can work for both my chosen factions.

Pilgrim_uk wrote: Actually was talking about would it be possible to get items sooner since folk are not waiting on items from china like cards and boxed items.
I am fairly sure the answer is no because heroes are still waiting for items from China. Each hero has cards, boxes. The cards for the heroes aren't in the base core box, they come with each individual heroes and troops from what it shows.
Pilgrim_uk wrote: Yeah but whats the point in cards when its obvious you aren't going to play the game just ship it in a box. It would be good if you had the choice.
It adds inconvenience to having to deal with two separate shipments. They are already going to have to run multiple lists with the Core Box choices. Personally I'm not a fan of KS where some backers get some items first before others. The only time that I see it being acceptable is in Forward Base's case because their whole KS is about creating product and shipping in multiple waves. Plus there is no way for them to store that product effectively with the quantities they are making so it made more sense.
As much as I love my Battle Systems scifi set, it was the one thing that bothered me. Granted some of that wasn't their issue it was Wayland Games issue but it was really disappointing when backers get items 'months' before you get yours. Look at Robotech RPG tactics, the way they shipped was awful so backers were getting their product but because of it, others have to wait months. Not all of them were people who are playing the game either, they just wanted the miniatures. It is just poor taste in my opinion.
I saw it in the KS page a few days ago...I think but now I cant find it. Didn't they have a game play video? I have more deadzone then I know what to do with and kind of just wondering what makes this different. IF someone has the video link id love to watch it

They don't have a game play video that I know of. The rules are still in Alpha. It was demo'd at GenCon and there might of been video of that but I haven't seen it. You are able to download the alpha rules, although pretty rough, and they did give a couple examples of game play in the updates.
I haven't played Deadzone so I couldn't tell you the difference. However this game does utilize deck building to a degree. You basically create a armoury and troop deck that matches your play style and helps your troops. Then using command points and resources gathered through objectives in the game, you can draw cards, power those cards, etc.

Yep this is the obvious one that I mentioned a couple of pages back about administration. If you have a decent "list" system I don't see it being an inconvenience its just another level to the "list". Personally I am fan of of backers getting items before others. How do you know they can store those items effectively?

Its obviously something you are going to be biased about. I don't see why its poor taste but great customer service. I do just want the miniatures you make it sound like a bad thing.

They had a gameplay example but it was just images and text last week
Pilgrim_uk wrote: Its obviously something you are going to be biased about. I don't see why its poor taste but great customer service. I do just want the miniatures you make it sound like a bad thing.
I wouldn't say I'm biased but I did say it was my opinion. It can and can't be seen as good customer service. There are backers who paid just as much to help create the project and make it a reality. I realize that you aren't playing the game and just want the miniatures, we all want them for different reasons. It comes down to the fact that we all backed at roughly the same time, paid money and someone ends up getting product before others... that is where it is not seen as good customer service. It doesn't really matter how those individuals use the product if they chose to play the game or just to paint miniatures but someone got product before someone else.
As a business too they have to be looking and what is going to keep the business running. They are launching a game and are those 'miniature' painters going to be the one who helps expand the product and keeps the game going? I realize that is subjective but but the painters aren't playing the game, demoing and therefore not growing it. They also pay less money than the other backers and gamers who play it for the game. Setting money aside though it ultimately just comes down to someone getting product before another person. Then we'll have the people who paid the 'most' demanding they get product before those that paid less. Granted some KS projects have been that way and reverse method as well, either take care of easy projects first or complicated and ship... it really depends on the operation and space. Most of those are 1-2 man operations though.
Like I said just my opinion based as not only a customer but as someone who runs a business. It makes other people feel like someone got preferential treatment over others. Emotions aside I understand how it can make logical sense but gamers aren't logical when it comes to getting product. It was always the one bad thing about GenCon, dealers have badges that get them in an hour early. They were able to buy and line up and get exclusives long before the average person and often by the time the average person got there, even those who waited first in line at the door... they were out for the day.
It is something of a dichotomy we have. You see it as unfair ( or bad customer service) when folk get preferential treatment I understand that. So if a backer buys 2 miniatures from the campaign, pays the shipping, then has to wait 12 months the same time as a boxed game backer then you can see how somebody might feel that's poor customer service or unfair. I agree gamers pay more in the long run but I don't think you can discount the amount generated by painters at the initial project level. Really do think they are missing a trick by not having a painters level.
Its your opinion and I'm cool with that. Like you I have my own personal reasons, opinions and quirks for a project. (One of which is a good experience with the company before.) Think I'm probably in the minority though and just wait till they go retail.
Pilgrim_uk wrote: Its your opinion and I'm cool with that. Like you I have my own personal reasons, opinions and quirks for a project. (One of which is a good experience with the company before.)
Yeah it really is just a difference of opinion. Like I said I do understand the want to a degree. They are making them in house, so providing it takes 3-4 months to create the miniatures, print out their final versions it can logically make sense to send those out. I can understand that but at the same time it isn't fair to other backers. If they decide to do that though, I'm not going to complain or cry about it but I guarantee there will be people that do.
The other issue let's say that someone says they only want the miniatures and they ship it. Then 8-12 months later that person decides they want to sell their miniature but the buyer wants the cards with it or they have decided that now they want to play the game. The person could technically claim they not given '100%' of what they pledged for or that it was incomplete. To prevent that the company has to now create a waiver, have the backer sign the waiver saying they won't do that and keep that on file indefinitely. I realize that the majority of the people would never do that... but there are people that would, it ends up becoming more of a hassle long term.
However if they did make a painter pledge, I could see them being able to say 'miniatures only' with no cards and will ship X date. That would be fine in that sense because it was outlined from the beginning that way. Personally I feel like the Heroes Pack is really a painters pledge pack though, between that and Trooper or Assault Trooper a painter can get a very wide variety. I have seen a couple KS do something like that but it isn't too common.

Yes, changing to higher pledges from $1 after the Kickstarter will give you access to the stretch goals.
Unfortunately I believe there is a communication error along the campaign. I do have to say I'm surprised that it took this long for there to be a communication problem... only because last time there were some misunderstandings. They have done a pretty good job so far so I can understand there being some confusion.
I did send them another message because their latest comment doesn't' clear up the misunderstanding. Again in it states "until the end of the KS campaign", now traditionally that means when the campaign closes and doesn't include the pledge manager. However it was asked what that meant and it was stated that it was after the pledge manager closes. I'm not sure if they realize that verbiage is confusing so when used again it doesn't clear up any misunderstandings.
I messaged them saying if they truly want to use "end of KS campaign", that traditionally means when the KS closes in 51 hours. If something is available after the pledge manager, it should be stated "after the Pledge Manager" closes and not 'end of the KS campaign' to be absolutely clear and not cause confusion. Just so it is completely crystal clear to backers. I can understand the decision either way from both their aspect and the backers, it can be sucky for some backers though and they just need to make the decision and be clear about it.
However I will say this... not that it will mean anything because I don't know what pledge manager they will use. If they use a standard PM and not make one themselves, which they may or may not have a programmer on staff, technically when you upgrade your pledge shouldn't effect SG. The backer kits normally don't have a way to say "X people who were at this pledge get this" and "X people who were at this pledge and upgraded to this get this". Once you upgrade a pledge, the PMs are usually set up you get the perks associated with the level. There isn't a way to discern those who upgraded from the $1 pledge because now they are X Pledge Level. I'm not saying it can't be done, but it isn't how the typical backer kits are associated. There is a very high chance that $1 pledges will still get SG's even if they say they won't.
Examples like MERC kit had an issue with shipping. You had to lock in your add-ons, money before X date because they were making the add-ons cost more for new backers (to include extra shipping costs). They were only able to do it globally. Even Infamy even though I pledged on level, once I upgrade to another I get the perks doesn't matter when I backed because that is the only way to really set up the levels.
I'll be honest, what they showed, I think its pretty horrible. Having to roll to see if you can act is never good, even worse if you get screwed twice. It puts way to much luck on the line. They try to balance it out by having the person that got screwed go twice, but at that point youve already taken a beating. I dont know ranges/damage/combat in general for the game, but I cant imagine it being "ok" someone guys to shoot all his guys twice before you can do anything.

I'll be sticking to Deadzone
It is still early alpha and that is entirely an accurate picture because it only shows a piece, just to highlight how fatigue works. However that isn't entirely how that works. A round is 4 phases and a player can only initiative twice in a round tops. You can't win initiative 3-4 times in a 1 round. It is probably easier if you read the Alpha Rules as that example is show someone could get fatigue. Meaning they won initiative the last 2 phases in the round 1 and won the first phase of round 2. It isn't as easy as it sounds. it is initially designed to prevent someone from winning initiative every time, hence why 4 phases in a round that both players still get 2 actions and will at the very least, have initiative during those 2 times. If that makes sense.
That isn't even taking into account the armory deck and action/reaction deck with cards in your hands that changes that around. There isn't a lot of luck on the dice as much as how you build your deck, combination of heroes with the squads chosen that changes gameplay. I can see where it seems like that based on the fatigue example though.
Before we take you through a short gameplay presentation, we wanted to show you a little something you asked for.The model for Lee Jenkins will come with two head options, one with his helmet and one without a helmet.
Sometimes you just want to catch some fresh air...
Today we are going to show you an example of how the armory and units interact with each other. Note that this a simplified example for illustration purposes, and that some of the card text and pictures may change.
The table setup is simple. The Riffs player is at the top with 1 squad and the “Smoke Grenades” card, whilst the Ares player is at the bottom with 1 squad, which contains Bitsie.
The Riffs player, knowing that the Ares troops outmatch him in ranged combat, has a plan to hold his position whilst protecting himself from the enemy fire. He is going to use the “Smoke Grenades” card to create a barrier between his squad and the Ares squad, which they cannot shoot through.
The Riffs have the initiative, and the player sets his plan in motion. He plays the “Smoke Grenades” card, and places a marker between the buildings, blocking the Ares line of sight. Then he decides to hold the position with his squad, keeping them ready to charge the Ares in case they decide to come at them through the smoke.
The next phase starts, and the Ares have the Initiative. Unbeknownst to the Riffs player, the Ares player had already prepared himself for things like this. He searches his Armory deck and plays the “Thermo Sight” card for 1 Krithium on Bitsie.
The “Thermo Sight” card allows Bitsie and her squad to see through the smoke, completely ruining his opponent’s plan. Everybody shoots through the smoke, and the Riffs squad is helpless in the open, taking 3 wounds.
That’s it for right now. We hope you enjoyed this little gameplay example, and if you have any questions please post them in the comments below!

@Alexander - The Kickstarter campaign is our way to get funded, and so we need to know on how much money we can count once the Kickstarter ends. We don't know how much money we will make through the pledge manager period, and so Stretch Goals are limited to those who pledged at the Assault Trooper level or higher during the campaign. This also allows us to start producing as fast as possible as we know exactly how many copies of each thing we have to make from the get-go, speeding up the production process. For those that raise their pledge during the Pledge Manager period there are still the Black Friday freebies.
@Baku - No, that's something that would hold up production, especially if everybody does it.
"Baku" asked:

I really hope that we will hit 10k more in the next two days.
By the way, If I choose the "Faction" pledge, may I trade in the vehicle for credit towards other things? I am not a fan of vehicles in miniature games...
Going over the numbers because I do realize when we tend to think stretch goals, it means a lot more than a few heroes, at least in terms of CMoN and Mantic. With that in mind really the only thing $1 pledge now, upgrade later or pledging AT now is $30-45. The .PDFs I'm sure will be distributed and shared amongst the community so that won't be an issue.
Now at first that can seem like a lot. That is essentially shipping and a hero. I tend to ask the real question though, does that really effect the value of the Assault Trooper.
$1 Pledge, switching to Core Box in PM with shipping, even without stretch goals still comes out to $130-$145 ($3.82 - $3.94 per miniature), depending which faction version you take (ie: 33 or 38 miniatures).
Assault Trooper Pledge with shipping, with stretch goals is still $130-145 ($3.63 - $3.73 per miniature), depending on which faction version you take (ie: 35 or 40 miniatures).
It comes out to a difference in cents when it is compared to the big picture of per miniature value. I still can't think of any project where I can beat $4 or less resin miniatures.
str00dles1 wrote: Wish there was an option just for the PDF maps. Would love to use them for infinity or deadzone
I am sure they will be 'available' afterwards. I will be in the process of sourcing a place to get the PDFs printed on playmats once I get more information on them.
I definitely think it's worth it - as DS noted above, you'll be hard pressed to find high quality resin figures for $4 each anywhere.
Of course this is all good only if you like what's on offer here!
I really like the Riff and Sayx, and Ares are nice too.
Harvesters aren't doing it for me presently, but they're close - I can still be swayed!

Fallen Frontiers Last 48 Hours!

Hello everyone,
Fallen Frontiers is heading into its last 48 hours of funding, and so we decided to write up a little re-cap of what this campaign is all about.
The Game
This Kickstarter was made to fund the Fallen Frontiers game, a two-player sci-fi miniatures game where powerful heroes meet in futuristic battles. The game features highly strategic gameplay and deep player customization, making for a fast-pace and tactical experience.
Through the customization of a deck of cards, and the deployment of heroes the players can change up how their army plays, shifting and adapting strategies depending on the situation. These heroes provide boosts to their squads, meaning that by simply swapping out a hero your same units will behave differently and you gameplay style will change.
We have posted a few gameplay examples already, which you can find here:
Everyone who buys the game box will get an Exclusive Kickstarter Limited Edition box, which features special cover art, and comes with a numbered backer certificate and set of four faction post cards.
The box has everything you need to get started with Fallen Frontiers, and comes with miniatures, bases, scenery, cards, counters, the rulebook, a ruler and dice. This box is customizable, allowing you to choose one of six possible combinations of armies.
Depending on your choice you will get either 33 or 38 high quality resin miniatures, from basic troopers to mighty heroes. Note that if you select a combination of armies with a total of 38 miniatures, you will have to add $15 to your pledge.
You can see everything you get in the box and what your army choices are here: http://bit.ly/11Uwe4L Additional Free Content
Since the launch of the campaign we have unlocked various things through Stretch Goals and our Black Friday deals.
This means that in addition to your pledge you will get Free Heroes, a Painting DVD, a Narrative Campaign, Scenic Bases, and more, depending on your pledge levels.
With so much extra content, it might become difficult to grasp exactly what comes with which pledge, and so we have put together this image to give you a better understanding of what you are getting:
Heroes And More
As you can see some of the pledge levels come with extra heroes that are not part of the Starter Box, and we give you the opportunity to choose which heroes you want.
Any Hero worth up to $15 may be picked as one of your choices, regardless of what factions you have taken for your Starter Box. If you run out of free hero selections you can also buy more heroes by adding their value to your pledge amount.
There are plenty of other things you can buy to expand your army. There is a wide selection of special units that are not included in the Starter Box, there are Vehicles for all factions, and there are other things such as Scenery Packs, Scenic Bases, and more.
You can see all add-ons that you can purchase here: http://bit.ly/1I0jeLZ The Last 48 Hours
So you got your Starter Box, you’ve picked whatever Heroes and Add-ons you wanted... and now what?
You can find a ton of background story for the various heroes, factions and more directly from our website: http://www.fallenfrontiers.com/
We still have some hidden things that we have not revealed yet, and the campaign is far from over, so let’s smash a couple of stretch goals and find out!
Alpharius wrote: Harvesters aren't doing it for me presently, but they're close - I can still be swayed!
Yeah so far, other than Despair, the Harvesters aren't doing it for me either. That could change depending on when they start finalizing the models and renders though.
Automatically Appended Next Post: After watching the video and going over the alpha rules some more, I'm noticing that there are similarities between how game turns are done in TCGs (trading card games). You have the start of round, start of phase, what is done in a phase, end of phase and end of round. It can sound complicated but it is pretty straight forward. The part that I didn't really pay attention to originally was initiative.
INITIATIVE At the beginning of the phase the players roll-off, and the winner may decide who has the Initiative for that phase. The player that has Initiative may activate all his units once, however each player may only have Initiative up to 2 times per round, regardless of the roll-off result.
I had previously thought that it was roll, then if you won you had initiative so choose to move, shoot or assault. In the beginning of a round, knowing someone can only have initiative twice (that means every player gets 2 turns every round, no matter what), it could be a better strategy to keep initiative and choose to activate units. When in Phase 3 or 4 though it is better to choose to let your opponent go first and give them initiative. Or if they happened to get initiative in Phase 4, then the next round Phase 1 and 2 if you won, it is in your best interest to give them initiative so they are forced to get fatigue. Now granted there are heroes, cards that can effect initiative and rolls as well but it does provide some interesting twists... in most games you want initiative, especially if you can shoot first and kill them before they can do anything. I feel like it can help balance someone who doesn't roll well but also provide a different strategy that could change combat results in a round.
GiraffeX wrote: Do we know how long the pledge manager is going to be open for?
We don't unfortunately and they haven't fully decided when the PM will launch. After the KS closes it can take 15-30 days before funds are released. I expect that time will be spent modeling and finalizing orders for the printed stuff. If they are smart they will do a KS survey, that basically says "What heroes and Core box you are interested in". It doesn't mean backers are locked in at that but that does let them start production, as soon as modeling is done, based on those initial numbers. Given their timeline I expect the official pledge manager to come out in late Jan/Feb and probably be open for at least 4 weeks. They could technically keep it open as late as May/June and still maintain their schedule, providing everything gets from China in time. Also providing they do the previous survey to get a base idea of what needs to be started.
GiraffeX wrote: Yeah my issue is I'm broke before Christmas so I'd be in for a $1 and then hope that the PM doesn't finish before Jan so I can bump it up.
I am on the same situation. Although if it is true you don't get the stretch goals by pledging through the PM I will simply not bother
As we are reaching the final 24 hours of the campaign, we are going to be gradually revealing new things for the campaign. With that said, we are making a new character available: Dexx Vogel.
You can add Dexx to your pledge for $15 or select him as one of your Hero options from now on. Here is a little background story to give you a feel for this vicious Sayx commander:
Dexx had a brilliant career on earth as an executive at Increcom. However his extravagance and taste, that were not always legal, put him in numerous problems with the law. His money and influence as a member of Increcom saved him from jail on more than one occasion but everything has a limit.
Fed up with his multiple scandals the directors of the company decided to get rid of him by sending Dexx away from Earth as an officer in the Sayx Military. Commanding elite forces of the company, Dexx could unleash his sadism and simultaneously generate benefits for Sayx, and therefore Increcom.
Win-Win.
Today we are going to show you an example of how contesting objectives and heroes works. Note that this a simplified example for illustration purposes, and that some of the card text may change.
The table setup we have here is taken in the middle of a round, and the players have already taken one phase each. The Ares player is at the top with 1 squad which contains Bitsie, whilst the Riffs player is at the bottom with 2 squads, one of which contains Fink.
At the center of the table you can see 2 Krithium points, here represented by Krithium crates, which are going to be the focal point of this gameplay example.
Phase 3 starts and the Ares have the Initiative. The Ares player has prepared his force and decks with a strategy to collect Krithium and play powerful cards from his Armory. For this he has taken Bitsie, which allows her unit to move an additional 2” thanks to her “Fast” ability.
Because of this the player decides not to shoot at the Riffs squad that is in the open, but instead moves 8” toward the Krithium crate in order to contest it.
The next phase starts, and the Riffs have the Initiative. The Riffs player has prepared his decks with very flexible cards which can be boosted with Krithium. To give him more flexibility he has taken Fink, who has the ability to use any ability for one round.
Because of this the player decides to move his left squad toward the left Krithium crate in order to contest it. Seeing how the Ares player is already contesting the right Krithium crate, the Riffs player decides to give Fink and his squad the “Fast” ability in order to move 8” toward the Krithium crate and contest it too.
The next Round starts, and now we can look at who gets to collect Krithium. The left Krithium crate is being contested by the Riffs player, so he receives Krithium. The right Krithium crate however is being contested by both players, so neither one receives Krithium.
By moving his squad to contest the right Krithium crate the Riffs player has denied the Ares player those resources, whilst also receiving resources from the left Krithium crate. Smart move!
That’s it for right now. We hope you enjoyed this little gameplay example, and if you have any questions please post them in the comments below!

I'm not so worried about not getting the free stuff as long as I customize the starter box.
I'm looking at putting $1 now and the upgrading to the below if the PM stays open long enough, or wait for retail. I have lots of Darklands stuff from their last KS to get in the mean time as this probably wont hit retail until late 2015 which is a long way away.

GiraffeX wrote: I'm not so worried about not getting the free stuff as long as I customize the starter box.
You don't have to worry about losing the ability to choose your core game box. The customization of the Starter Box and Silver Backs (PDFs maybe, not sure on that but don't see why it wouldn't be?). They are considered global changes that aren't effected by your pledge level. It means you will still get them at a $1 pledge or any pledge level.
@Ed Leech - When we say that we want the game and armies to be customizable to your own playstyle, we really mean it. This means that whilst one player might throw 50 models on the table, the next player might focus his efforts on an elite force of just 25 models. At the same time, whilst we can think of where we envision the game size to be, it really is only going to be clear once the game gets to the public and people figure out what size they like best. Maybe we think that a certain amount of models is the perfect size, but find that people like to play with double those models, or maybe half. What we can say for sure right now is that the game plays well for small games of 15-20 models per side, to big games of 40-50 models per side.
We have made it to the final 24 hours of the Fallen Frontiers campaign, and with this our journey on Kickstarter is about to end!
As a special thank you to all of you who have stuck with us since the beginning, we are going to make some of the Stretch Goals heroes already available now, in order to give you the most options possible.
This means that Fink Draad, Reaper and Drax Vatar are available right now for you to select as one of your hero choices, or to take as an add-on for $15 each.
Due to this we are also going to be moving the Art Book a little closer, and if we make it to $120,000 we will be able to unlock this awesome book full of Art and Background Story to the Fallen Frontiers universe.
Now that doesn’t mean that the Kickstarter is already over, as we still have something hidden that we might be revealing soon...
Our next Stretch Goal is another FREE Hero for every eligible pledge level, so share the campaign with your friends, spread the word around the net, and let’s smash that $110,000 goal!
P.S.: Here is an Ares Officer we painted up for you, enjoy.

I'm going Sayx + Riffs Core Box. Then I'll get additional Ares to get all three factions. So far Harvesters haven't shown me anything to make me want them really bad. Although I'll probably pick up Despair... I can't get enough female miniatures. ^_^
I quite like the Harvester Behemoths - they remind me of the old Doom Mancubus! And they will be some seriously chunky resin models.
I think the faction is not helped by the relatively static posing of the concept art. Are the necroslaves aggressive? Implacable and relentless? Cowed but vicious? The concept art is just the same basic anatomy drawing with armour plates added/removed, but judging by the actual models from other factions I think the final version will be a bit more interesting.
Maaaan I hope we can make those last $4000 in 8 hours. Those of us going down the "2 different pledges on different accounts" route get an extra 2 characters per unlock, not just 1...
RiTides wrote: Ends today, not too much of a final swing so far, it seems. Looking forward to seeing them deliver on this!
Yeah it has definitely been a strange campaign but I can't wait to see the miniatures. From what I've seen of the various versions, the quality looks great. I also want to see the game play developed more... oddly I'm more concerned that they won't have enough time to finish the full game design than I am the miniatures. Alpha rules seems like fairly far out from where they should be to get printing done in time. Not that I expect them to be stellar, usually KS miniatures game rules are hit and miss but I am interested in some of the unique nature in their game mechanics (because I like deck builders, being a TCG player originally).
I think that the Horseshoe Of Massiveness KS Campaign Funding Trend will be a bit more rare going forward.
Especially for 'boutique resin miniatures'!
Still, I hope we can get the remaining $2,500 in the last 2 hours to get that extra free hero unlocked!

Hello everyone,
We are heading into our last 2 hours, and it seems that our master infiltrators, Ishann and Axl, have finally decided to show up!
You can now add Ishann and Axl to your pledge for $15 each, or select them as one of your Hero choices. Here is a bit of background story to help you understand their mysterious ways:
Ishann is a curious case in the Ares condominium. Although his behavior as a soldier was equal to or better than his peers, his superiors realized he was an exceptional soldier
During a battle in Military Haszen territory, Ishann was lost and could not reach the extraction point, being trapped in enemy territory.
Six months later he appeared at an Ares outpost after stealing a ship from the enemy. His talent for camouflage and combat abilities managed to keep him alive on the battlefield no matter how bad the odds were against him. His ability to go unnoticed made him lethal in combat and Ares high command decided to use his skills to create a unit that exploited that.
The Ares are fearsome when you find them in front of you, but if they appear at your back, you have no chance.
Axl, like everyone in the Sayx, was discovered by the test for newborns as a potential sniper.
His grades during instruction caught the attention of his superior, Dex Vogel, who started using him for personal "Assignments". For years Axl did dirty work for Dex eliminating enemy targets and some other Sayx officers that conflicted with Dex.
Being the weapon of a corrupt generates many enemies, but his survival instinct and his ability to disappear from conflict have kept him alive until now.
Additionally we are opening up some new Add-Ons:
You can now get the Painting DVD by adding $10 to your pledge.
You can now get 3 Big Scenic Bases by adding $5 to your pledge.
The Kickstarter is almost over, so grab those high Early Birds whilst you still can, we don’t know when the next time is going to be when we can offer you such a sweet deal!
P.S.: We want to remind you that this DVD already comes as a free Stretch Goal for all Assault Trooper pledge levels and higher.
Ooohh.... aaahhh.... notice they are teasing. You can see the leg/thigh and an arm of Dianne Tianseen. And they have started production already before it has ended!
Update #41
Production Update
Hello everyone,
Just a quick update. We are one hour away from finalizing the campaign and we have already started production on Fallen Frontiers!
Here you can see some of the miniatures that we presented during the campaign.
This already reduces your wait to get your hands on... FALLEN FRONTIERS!!!
Still, I hope we can get the remaining $2,500 in the last 2 hours to get that extra free hero unlocked!
Yeah still hoping for the same. It does fall under the boutique category although I think the big surge is more likely due the timing of the KS. It also doesn't help that CMoN launched and a couple others this month too on top of Mantic's and Antenocities. Sooooo much money gone in a month. LOL!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Done! Completed with 588 backers pledging $109,578. Production is already started on the miniatures.
Zond wrote: I'm at a dollar but I have about $800 I can throw at the pledge manager, although if we don't get stretch goals I'll probably pass.
With all us $1 pledgers complaining... I'm hoping they'll realize how much money they're passing on and reverse that decision. I have no idea why they did it, the only substantial stretch goals are two human sized figures for gods sake, not like it's going to cost them a fortune to give 100 people (assuming everyone upgrades) 2 figures each...
The people at Scale are pretty decent, I have a sneaking suspicion that as the PM releases one or multiple things will happen.
1) It won't be able to be coded so that when someone upgrades from the $1 Pledge, they don't get stretch goals. At least with the current PM's out there this isn't possible without some creative work-arounds.
2) That they will, despite saying that the PM won't unlock stretch goals, end up unlocking the 3rd free hero option because of the amount made in the PM.
I only say this because I can understand starting out saying what they did. If everyone stayed in the $1 pledge and waited, a good portion of the funds wouldn't have happened. Even the ones that made the decisions still stayed in or they are getting something that the stretch goals are irrelevant. Again even without SG's the savings on the miniatures is really good.
No matter what the decision is though, I'm still looking forward to the game and product.
I am still hoping they open the PM to 'new' backers who weren't able to back during the campaign, just because of the timing of it over the holidays. I do also hope they do allow those who upgrade get SG, even if its because of a technicality ^_^ I also hope they have PM stretch goals that unlock new things.
Even if they wait a couple weeks until the PM is open before making an announcement, they should be able to gauge what the increase amounts are. Providing they are still going up, there isn't a negative reason on why they wouldn't do the above... it would be all completely positive for them. Especially because by then they'll be more examples of their sculpts out.
Hmm - I don't particularly want to stir up drama, but Scale posted a rather inflammatory comment that may be relevant to some of those who pledged for this:
Let us put this to rest. $1.00 Pledges do not receive stretch goals, period. It would not be fair to the people who put forth the funds to unlock the stretch goals for those who did not help at the time the KS was live and needing funding to then also receive them. It was clearly stated that $1 pledges would not receive stretch goals. No manner of Squeaking will change that.
Also, regarding their earlier statement to the contrary:
@Kevin Johnston, we hired a community manager who answered prior to confirming that information, we apologize for that. Thank you for your 1 dollar donation, we do appreciate all support given be it 1 dollar or what ever it maybe. Take care and be well.
So - you are not eligible for any stretch goals unless you pledged at a specific $98 level or above, not even if you upgrade in the pledge manager. Contrary to what their own employee stated while the Kickstarter was live. They do not view pledge manager funds as contributing to the campaign, despite them getting a greater cut of the money at a time of year where (presumably) people have more available to spend. I would imagine that they would also not put these funds towards the $422 required for their next stretch goal. Despite not being affected by this, I really do not see this sort of attitude in a positive light.
Oh well, it's a shame. I caught the message about being able to upgrade with stretch goals, but missed anything subsequent, so went in for $1 to get a seat at the table.
With no stretch goals and having to pay shipping, not really seeing any benefit to upgrading prior to release. Looks like I'll wait on retail.

I'm still not positive that is the final answer on the subject though. I honestly believe it was done to stop the bickering and to not give any 'false hopes' in case they do change their mind. Depending on if they go the normal pledge manager route, unless they do their PM in waves, they aren't really programmed to determine the difference between Assault Trooper Pledge at the time of KS and someone who was a $1 Pledge an upgraded to Assault Trooper. Once you upgrade, you are part of that pledge typically. I will say since today has been a pretty bad day (for me), the tone I 'read' in that comment is probably a bit more harsher than I would have read normally on a different day and did catch me a bit by surprise.
I do understand the reasoning and purpose behind it. They also aren't the first KS nor will they be the last one to do something similar. I also understand the disappointment if as a $1 backer that was all you could pledge but couldn't do more. I dropped my KoW down to a $1 since in that campaign I doubt my dollars would of mattered much so I could up my Antenocitis KS pledge. I also know that previously that would still get me access to the pledge manager. However if they chose not to give me stretch goals, it would suck but it wouldn't necessarily change that the KS package is still a good value. The same can be said about Fallen Frontiers that no matter what , even without stretch goals, you can't beat the value of high quality resin miniatures at $3.82 - $3.94 per miniature (with shipping) anywhere. It just can't be done. I understand that the timing of the KS wasn't perfect given the holidays and other KS going on at the time. However no one is getting a bad deal or investment for the money even with missing a couple stretch goals. I can still hope for positive change though, hopefully by a more contributing community vs the bickering comments... which I have to say are a bit more passive aggressive then even the best Dakka ones. ^_^
I also want to add, choosing your game box was not a stretch goal in the normal sense. I know a couple $1 backers were only concerned with losing that option and they'll still have it. It was a global unlock across the board to all pledge levels. Those people will still be able to choose their Core Box factions and won't be stuck with only a Ares vs Riffs box.

That is correct, those are the only relevant stretch goals 2 free heroes ($24-30 depending on which heroes you picked). They are still eligible for Black Freeday options. So if someone upgraded to Commander they still get 3 Free Heroes. Or if someone wanted to get 2 Factions they would get 2 free heroes. They also still have access to the Cyber Monday reduced price for the Merc heroes as well.
Triple9 wrote: With no stretch goals and having to pay shipping, not really seeing any benefit to upgrading prior to release. Looks like I'll wait on retail.
Even without stretch goals you can't beat their loss leader pricing for their Core Box. Even with the cost of shipping, that will never be beat by any retail price even online with a markdown/discount.
There was an unexpected surprise that came in the mail this week. I ordered one of Scale75 75mm miniatures. I normally do this with Kickstarters that have an existing line for multiple reasons. The main reason is so I can review their current work to have a baseline, develop realistic expectations to a similar product I'll be receiving later from them. There are a lot of Kickstarters that I get disappointed because you expected something and it didn't match the expectations. There are also almost an equally amount of Kickstarters that are the complete opposite, where you expect something not horrible, but expected the quality to not be as high because its a new(er) company but then end up getting something great. I decided that I'm going to do a review (we'll be looking for volunteers for people to submit articles as I don't KS everything and its good to have different opinions) on board games and Kickstarters with information about expectations, how they do in the campaign and then the final product review after receiving. Then after 30 days a final wrap up and final thoughts on them as a whole. I know individually we all kind of do that, there is information about processes scattered about but I wanted to try to get it centralized so on new campaigns with the same company people have a better idea of what they are getting into. It won't be limited to just Kickstarters, we'll be reviewing other things as well. Another reason for the new site is that my children also want to get into gaming and wanted to do reviews from their perspective. But I digress...
I ended up ordering Fallen Frontiers - Sayx: Diane Tianseen from Scale75, which is a 75mm metal miniature... that came with an added surprise.
Front, back and side of the box.
Inside the box is another box and inside that is a bountiful surprise. ^_^
This is before any cleanup. After I took the pictures, I washed and scrubbed them with a toothbrush. Once I finish putting her together I'll take some more pictures, then do a primer and pictures again before I start actually painting her.
The Unexpected Surprise:
Spoiler:
Inside the box, underneath the foam I found these hidden gems. Seven resin 35mm resin from their Kickstarter Fallen Frontiers.
Sayx: Dianne Tianseen and Tarko Stahlen
Harvesters: Sphynx
Riffs: Sihlas Fenn & Berserker unit
Ares: Bitsie "Operator 31" & Heavy Weapon unit
Riffs: Sihlas Fenn
Riffs: Berserker
Sihlas Fenn and the Berserker next to each other.
Sayx: Dianne Tianseen
Ares: Bitsie "Operator 31"
I didn't include pictures of all of them because there are already pictures of them available. I did however take individual pictures of each kit and their pieces. I have them drying after I washed them with soap/water and cleaned them with a toothbrush. There is actually very little flash and will only need some minor cleanup around the sprue cuts. Overall the detail is what I expected and more. I am VERY happy with how they have been turning out. After they dry, I'll put them together and take some more pictures. Then I'll primer them and take some more pictures before doing an article report on each of the pieces, their quality and how well they went together. Then I get to paint them.
Mymearan wrote: You got 7 free figures? That's one expensive freebie... Any idea why, or do they just give it to everyone?
Throughout the campaign I have been talking in messages with their KS team. I would tone back some comments, send some suggestions their way for them to think about. It was how I knew there was a change coming to the Core Box, just wasn't sure how it was going to happen. During the campaign, I had ordered the Diane 75mm to paint, and was messaged by their production manager. I had made a post that I was going to order one and actually have been wanting to for awhile just never really had a good excuse. I actually looked at some of the other lines to see which ones to paint but nothing matched the look I liked more than the Fallen Frontier... I mean what's not to like. ^_^ They had proposed that they refund the money, so instead I could invest the amount in the campaign to buy some add-ons and if I paid shipping they would send me the 35mm figure to be painted and promoted.
The honest response was that I'd be happy to do that but I was really looking forward to painting a 75mm to paint. I've usually done 28mm-35mm and other than vehicles haven't really painted anything larger. I've done one 54mm miniature and 1/8th scale but wanted a 75mm. I also wanted to do a bust version but that will be waiting until Infamy. The amount I paid wasn't something that was going to effect the amount I pledged on KS. I usually alot a certain amount to KS and hobbies which are different amounts. Although I went a bit over budget this month. I had possibly expected the extra 35mm Dianne but was not expecting the rest. I did think the 75mm version was in resin but before it was sent they let me know it was not. Not sure if they just weren't sure if I'd be happy with it, which I am, or if it was just more a method to promote their miniatures. Some of the promotions they did with the painters was really great, if only they were out before they launched it would have helped.
I wouldn't exactly call it freebies. There is some work involved around them as I will be doing a review, painting and using them to promote the product line. You would think that is easy but it actually turned out to be more work than I would of anticipated. Something I noticed through-out this KS and others was that we tend to refer to 28mm as a scale even though it really isn't a scale. There is also a broad spectrum of what that means. I plan on doing pictures of various miniatures from WH40K, Infinity, etc and putting them in a lineup together similar to merzo.net where there is a spaceship comparison. I will be measuring them with a caliper to get accurate measurements, then placing them on a ruled background appropriately for easy comparison. Fallen Frontiers has also been one of the KS to join next to Hex MMO TCG, Battle Systems and Antenocitis Workshop of being the most I've ever pledged for a KS. Although from the work I did with Cryptozoic Entertainment at conventions for their WoW TCG tournaments, game demoing, etc I did end up getting a free pledge from the Hex MMO TCGKS which went to my wife.
They look really good - and give me more confidence that the end product here will be as nice as I thought they would be!
Yes they are their resin versions in their scale. I have another studio light and umbrella coming in the mail so should be able to get some better lighting for the pictures.
For $4 miniatures the quality is excellent, yeah I know that is KS prices. After working with them a bit the $15 price seems fine, can see them retailing for probably $25-30. The quality is actually better than their 75mm version but that is to be expected. I forgot when you start working with larger scales, there are more gaps to fill and take care of. I had to break out the green stuff to do a bit of gap filling on the 75mm but having worked with 1/6th resin kits before it was nothing new. I start priming them over the next couple days, then I'll really be able to see any of the imperfections on them. There were not a lot of mold lines, there is minimal flashing which most came off from washing. There are a couple thin points on some pieces, mainly the trigger guard for Bitsie. Not sure if it broke from me scrubbing them or one of them was that way. It also looks like Dianne didn't have her holster. I thought about converting a holster from 40K for it. Interesting thing is that her gun is bigger in the 35mm version, which makes the scale odd for a holster unless the barrel is sticking through (maybe that is why it wasn't there, still being updated?). Other than that I'm really happy with the detail. There is a bit of room if you want to adjust the pose a little bit, even more ability if you are decent with green stuff.
There should be no issues using existing 28mm terrain at all. The miniature line seems the most compatible with Infinity, Wild West Exodus, Kingdom Death (remind me the most of them in terms of scale), Warzone Ressurection, and Relic Knights in terms of size, mass and look. You could make them super soldiers in terms of 40K but they do look a bit odd next to 40K Marines... the marines look really ugly, squat and fat. They could mingle with Dark Eldar or Eldar probably better. Mercs even though 35mm, are kind of between WH40K and Infinity in terms of compatibility. They are heroic and bulky like Marines but better looking and because of their poses it tends to make them lower in overall size. They could mix with some of the Reaper miniatures, but any truescale 28mm but then again most of us knew that. Truescale barely matches up with WH40K at the small spectrum.
Ares: Bitsie "Operator 31" :41.68mm from the bottom of her feet to the top of her head. 38.45 from the bottom of her feet to eye level.
Spoiler:
You can see the slight broken part of the trigger guard on the right side, it was the only trigger guard that broke. It could of happened when I was cleaning them with the toothbrush.
Ares: Heavy Weapon : 38.85mm from the bottom of her feet to the top of her head. 35.67 from the bottom of her feet to eye level.
Spoiler:
Sayx: Dianne Tianseen : 38.84mm from the bottom of her feet to the top of her head. 34.05 from the bottom of her feet to eye level.
Spoiler:
Mother and Daughter together again. The 75mm miniature doesn't have the holster, front sash and two pieces to the trench coat that attach to the back on it. I'll be painting those separately and then gluing them onto her.
Sayx: Tarko Stahlen : 38.78mm from the bottom of her feet to the top of her head. 35.80 from the bottom of her feet to eye level.
Spoiler:
Riffs: Sihlas Fenn : 36.31mm from the bottom of her feet to the top of her head. 31.03 from the bottom of her feet to eye level.
Spoiler:
Riffs: Berserker : 35.10mm from the bottom of her feet to the top of her head. 29.35 from the bottom of her feet to eye level.
Spoiler:
Harvesters: Sphynx : 38.90mm from the bottom of her feet to the top of her head. 36.49 from the bottom of her feet to eye level.
Spoiler:
As soon as I get them primed I'll put them on temporary bases and be able to take some more comparison photos with other miniatures.

Hi all.
The collected money till now is $ 97,710.82 only.
There are lots of failed transactions.
Please, check your accounts to avoid failures.
Today is the last day to try to get the money.
If your transaction is failure and you don´t know why, contact with us to look for another payment method.
The campaign ended at $109,578, so that means approximately 10% of the pledges failed, which I think is fairly typical?
sounds about right for a big project (small ones tend to have more experienced/committed backers who are more on top of potential problems),
the key question is how much effort they are prepared to put in working with each individually to sort things out, if they work hard they should be able to drop it down to 2-3%
Alpharius wrote: The campaign ended at $109,578, so that means approximately 10% of the pledges failed, which I think is fairly typical?
During the initial grace period provided by Amazon that is usually about right for larger projects. The average is about 5% when you take all projects into consideration but large projects tend to have a larger amount of failures. Hex MMO TCG had 17,765 backers with $2,278,255 and it was roughly 10% failed pledges.
OrlandotheTechnicoloured wrote: the key question is how much effort they are prepared to put in working with each individually to sort things out, if they work hard they should be able to drop it down to 2-3%
Exactly! You will tend to always have 2-3% that will always fail no matter what for various reasons. Some are buyers remorse so they change their card info so it fails, I'm sure others have their reasons. Providing they send an update, email the individuals and message them they should definitely be able to lower it from the 10% to 2-3%. They already stated they would work with people with Paypal so providing they keep working at it they should get the amount.
I hope they don't do what Heavy Gear did though and say you need to "re-unlock" stretch goals. I'm sorry but that was bad move on their part. As part of a project you should have already planned for the missed backers and funding, thus stretch goals should be set appropriately. On the plus side, at least for Fallen Frontiers, this may make them rethink unlocking stretch goals in the PM and opening the PM to more people.
Well the good news is the $100K Stretch Goal will not be affected. They are working on an update but they did state in the comments section:
Creator SCALE GAMES LLC Hi all, we are preparing an update to clear up things. But dont worry about the 100K Stretch Goal since it will be added no matter the final amount collected.
Thanks for your patience and support.

The payment period through Amazon Payments is over.
What happens now?...
- During January, we will update you on KS and send out the invitations to our pledge manager system.
- With the pledge manager, you can add new pledge levels, add-ons , and make payments (including shipping)
- Pledge manager will remain open for 1-2 months so you may adjust your selections or add on new ones.
- We will update with miniature renders an as soon as they are modelled.
- Once closed, only your address can be adjusted. This is done to collect final numbers for production.
- After it has been closed, we will continue to update you via Kickstarter, and let you know when shipping will be prepared.
- Once we are ready to begin shipping, we will remind everyone to check their addresses to ensure they are correct, and ensure everyone has paid and solve any remaining issues.
If your payment have failed or you missed the campaign and interested we need you to do a few things...
Pledge manager is fantastic. The loss of stretch goals hurts a lot however so still mulling it over. That and I'm not sure I'd ever want to play the game with the current community. :-P
Anyone else having problems with the pledge manager, every time I attemp to pay with PayPal, the program shuts down saying there was an unhandeled exception?
Yep definitely an issue, at least seems related to US since the backers that get it are in the US. I probably won't lock mine in for at least a month or more though. I am hoping to see some renders of the vehicles at least. Right now I don't plan on getting them but depending on how they shape up, that could change.
We know you love seeing new models every week but we thought that you'd also love to see the final look of the miniatures that in a few months will arrive to your houses.
We show you the final copies of some of the miniatures that you already saw rendered a few weeks ago. We have the complete Riff assault team and some of its leaders Drax, Krull and the mercenary Val so you can check the final quality of the Fallen Frontiers figures.
We also include the version with the new face of Blaze and the final miniature of Brett.
The Fallen Frontiers team is very proud of the result and we hope that you too.
This one continues to march towards a September fulfillment date - and looking REALLY good while doing it!

Riffs painted characters

[EN] Hello everyone!
Our sculptors are working full speed but our painting team is not lagging behind. Do you remember the painting DVD stretch goal? We show you some of the models that we have painted for the Riffs section. In the DVD you will find tricks and processes to paint the four initial factions of Fallen Frontiers. If the models are impressive imagine how they can look on the board with a good painting.
Here you have images of the new Riff characters painted with the typical green of the faction, we hope you like them!!
The miniatures look god damned amazing... But I'm on the fence if i should put money into the PM or not. On one hand, the miniatures are amazing and the base set is very cheap for what you get. On the other hand, we know nearly nothing about how the game plays, and if it's no good it's not very easy to use the minis in other games since they're 35mm... What do you guys think?
I'm having a tough go deciding whether to fill out the pledge manager or not. I'm one of those schmucks who only went in at a $1. Although I think the minis look fantastic; without the stretch goals for add-on pledges, putting down $130 shipped for something that will most definitely be cheaper at retail doesn't make a lot of sense to me.
But what if it doesn't make it to retail you say? Then it's yet another niche game that would have sit in the back of my closet only to be e-bayed off at some period of time in the future at a loss.
Yeah don't' ask me either, next to Forward Base, this was probably my largest KS I've ever done.
Honestly the miniatures are beautiful, since I've had some of their earlier casts sent to me. I know people criticized them for being 35mm, complaining they should have been 28-32mm instead and it wouldn't have mattered. Honestly the slight difference does make a difference not only in assembly, cleaning but also in painting.
I'm still not sold on the vehicles, which they haven't shown anything other than concept art though. However if they can ramp them to match the miniatures, I might cave. So far though I haven't opted for any of them though.
I am however almost considering going in for the fourth faction, since I only went in for three factions (Sayx, Ares, Riff). I know we haven't heard a lot on game-play but I'm not too worried. Worse case I don't like them and I use other rules systems (probably Infinity, Pulp City or Batman). Best case scenario I really like the rules and start using them.

Yes and no. From stretch goals your missing out on 2 or 3 miniatures, $36-45? Honestly you can go 10 hero pack and still come out ahead, especially if you aren't getting everything. If only going for 1-3 factions the free miniatures get used for another faction not what you pledged for anyways (at least in my case. I have 4-5 extra heroes that are Harvesters because of it).
It really will depend on the distribution channels. For example Batman is at a good portion of retails, however there isn't a huge saving of buying them at retail vs buying directly from their website. Also even though they are in other locations, stock is far and in between. Even Infinity depending on where you are getting it in the US can be hard to get for some models. If we talking a loss leader like a boxed set, that may be cheaper for retail but miniatures on a case by case basis are usually about even. You end up saving slightly more, since you get it all vs breaking it up into multiple purchases with shipping for each of them.

Same here - though I do plan on trying to play the game too!
Which one did you skip?
For me, it was the Harvesters. They just weren't doing it for me...
I skipped Ares, something about the aesthetic just didn't grab me.
I spent a long time trying to decide on which two of the remaining three factions I would get.
I was going to get Sayx & Riffs, but I liked the whole "Hellraiser in space" vibe that the Harvesters have going for them, so I decided to go for all three!
I have full confidence that Scale Games will deliver an excellent product, everything they have shown so far has looked great.

Least shocking announcement in the history of announcement!
A Kickstarter project is now...delayed!
They will not hit their initial shipping projection!

Status update
[EN] Dear friends and backers:
After several months of tireless work, new additions to our staff, implementation of new models, the pledge manager, etc .. We find ourselves kind of overloaded with the amount of work we still have ahead.
Although the project is at a very advanced status in terms of sculpting, rules, production and designs, we still have some things to finish.
Our intention has always been to meet the estimated delivery time in the campaign, but certainly we are not going to have all the things done by September.
It is our duty to warn you with enough time so that there won’t be any surprises after the summer. Our intention is to deliver the game before the end of year especially if the pace of work we have today remains the same. We want to ask you for a little patience as we are working very hard so that the product meets the quality expectations.
We appreciate your understanding in advance. Thank you very much for your support.
Someone needs to mod up that Leonidas "THIS IS SPARTA" GIF to read "THIS IS KICKSTARTA!"
it is still odd that we've been 'on track' up until now - and on June 22 we hear that September 30th isn't a possibility.
If this slips just a bit more, we're looking at a Q2 2016 delivery - CNY 2016 could bite the project (all cardboard, cards, rules, etc. are being done in China).
I'm thinking the rules aren't near complete, and that pouring all this resin is taking longer than expected/planned for?
It is quite vague, but it mostly seems symptomatic of "we have to rapidly expand our company while simultaneously ramping up for the biggest product launch that we've ever done". Actually the sort of thing Kickstarter success stories are all about, even if it's not exactly satisfying for the backers!
Once you become a bit more developed like CMON (Zombicide 1 was only funded a little over 3 years ago! Crazy!), you can develop a slicker pipeline - sort out production, rules etc. well in advance for each Kickstarter. At least in theory.
Yeah, that's what I thought too - I was joking there!
I'm worried that if this slips even a bit more than they expect, we'll get bit by CNY 2016 too (Feb. 8 2016) and then this will get pushed even further back - as in Q2 2016.
I am looking forward to some Scale75 stuff being at GenCon though. I have been wanting to pick up a few things but not wanting to pay shipping on them. ^_^
The assumption here is that the delay causing it to move from "September 2015" to "Before the end of 2015" will really mean we'll either get this in '2015' or early '2016' - with no further significant delays due to anything in China.
Posted some pictures from GenCon for Fallen Frontiers on Facebook.
Let me know if you have trouble seeing them and I'll get them over to here. I plan on uploading them to Dakka just haven't had time, still catching up from being gone at GenCon. The miniatures quality is top notch and I can't really wait to get my hands on them. I will end up replacing the playmat though however I will say I was surprised on the terrain. It was much thicker board than usual and extremely sturdy and strong. With a sealer or superglue edging on it it will last very well.
It may very well be a mix. Some of them I have already and match what I received, some semi-recently had 3d renders completed for them. A couple of them were probably production, given the earlier screens of miniatures being casted early on as well. None of them seemed to have any indications they were prints vs resin casts.
Really wish I could convince myself to buy as much as possible in the PM, but I have a feeling this would be a case of absolutely beautiful minis sitting unused at the back of a shelf... Didn't they release beta rules recently? Has anyone read them?
I have not had a chance yet, it is convention season and I still have some side projects I'm working on. I am hoping to be able to get some time to really play with the rules in the next couple weeks. We'll see how that ends up. LOL!
They've now moved on to the mass manufacture of resin models. Results look decent, although would probably need to see them in-hand to know if it was all worth it!
Specifically, it seems that their aesthetic (and scale) choices have meant that these do look robust enough for wargaming, which is nice.
Glad to see that 'high volume production' is well underway!
I never doubted their ability to get nice looking resin casts - just that they had to make so many of them is so short a time!

[EN] Hi all, we are in full production of the game and just to show here you have a few pictures of the process, molds, copies, miniatures’ schemes ... Hundreds and hundreds of soldiers are waiting to be recruited to go to the battlefield at your houses soon!
We also want to take this opportunity to remind you, as we announced in the update of August 5, that the Pledge Manager will be closed on September 20.
Regards.
If someone goes into the PM and orders a lot of minis before Sept. 20...

The Slave Warriors and the Behemoths

[EN] Hello friends!
Today we want to show you the Slave Warriors and the Behemoths from the Harvesters faction.
We also want to take this opportunity to remind you, as we announced in the update of August 5, that the Pledge Manager will be closed on September 20.
We hope you like them!
BEHEMOTHS
SLAVE WARRIORS
I don't remember these from the KS - but I didn't get any Harvesters so...I might have just missed them!
Yes, every faction had in the "starter box":
- Characters
- Squad leaders
- Heavies
- Standard Troops (Slave Warriors for Harvesters)
- Lower Quality Standard Troops
And then, as add-ons only:
- Specialists, frequently light or scout-types
- Big guys (Behemoths for Harvesters)
- Vehicles
As we said in the previous update, we are in full production of the game. Today we show you some more images of the miniatures that will be included in the boxes.
Unfortunately, we have to give you the news that nobody wants to receive. Because of a series of unexpected changes in our creative team, added to other external problems, although within expected have been more damaging than we thought, the completion of the game has been delayed.
Therefore the delivery margin is set for the end of the first quarter of 2016. We regret the inconvenience and will do everything possible to reduce this period.
[EN] With great pain in our hearts and tears in our eyes we have to announce that yesterday our colleague and friend Jorge Lopez Garcia lost his life in a traffic accident. These are very tough times for his family and his friends and colleagues. He was a great professional and a very great person.
We will never forget you, my friend. Rest in peace.
First, we want to greet you all the New Year. We want to tell you that the sculpting of the figures, vehicles and others has successfully finished. Also, production is almost complete and we are waiting to receive soon the printing tests from China so we are meeting the deadlines. We also want to show you a few pictures of the miniatures, rulebook and cards.
The radio silence doesn't mean we are not working, quite the opposite! We can finally show you some pictures of the printed stuff once we ruled out the first option (China) and decided to print at Madrid (Spain). We think it looks really great!
Not to necro to much but I feel its still valid as some news.
I missed the KS, and forgot about this game. Wishing it was at retail though since it really missed its date of SEPT 2015.
Would love to buy but seems it might be a little while still
I'd kinda forgotten about this one, but it looks like we're getting close!

Finished rulebook video
[EN] Hi guys, here's a little video of the finished edition of the rulebook. In a couple of days, we expect the finished boxes so we can start packing and shipping... finally! We'll keep you updated
Well (although difficult to tell from a blurry video) the art & printing quality looks great! As do the pages and pages of alternating grey & white tables.
As with just about every non-English native small Kickstarter, the concern is over the quality of the rules and (just as importantly) the quality of the language used to convey them! The Kickstarter rules pitch looked quite appealing, honestly, but who knows what the end result will be!
Oh, and we never saw anything about the thick card terrain, did we? It was never going to be #1 selling point, but Scale claimed it would be thick and durable (and reversible somehow!).
Good point about the translation (potential) issue - I'm not sure if they had a native English speaker proofread it, or released it for community review?
generally a positive review, but a LOT of mould slip with his Ares faction eg
The biggest problem I have with the Ares models shows itself quite visibly here - mold slippage. Pretty much every other area of the casts in the whole box are great. Minimal mold lines and flash, really crips details, easy to use pegs for assembly, then you get to the mold slippage. Quite frankly, it brings back memories of finecast Space Marines, and they're memories I'd rather forget. The heavily armoured Ares troop legs suffer the most, but it does also affect one or two Sayx pieces.
(what I find most disappointing is it's obvious enough that any sort of semi decent QC from either the caster or the company should have caught it especially as so many of them are individually bagged up)
but that said it does look good and is going to be one of those KS I wish I'd backed
Glad to see this getting shipped out to the backers of this project, I was not brave enough to back it myself but the results (mould slippage aside) look very good. It was easy to be cynical about this KS but Scale seem like their heart is in the right place, and given the real life tragedy that hit them a 9-10 month delay does not seem that bad.
Alpharius wrote: The scale...'issue' between the 2 versions of Fink Dradd is...alarming!
Still looking forward to getting mine in though!
I'll be waiting a while for mine, went Riff vs Sayx, no other add ons that I recall, and didn't fill in the pledge manager for a fair bit.
It's almost like handcasting ten of thousands of large scale multi-part minis was gonna take ages
Although I'll be happy with any scale issues like that one in the review, will mean I'll also a have some minis that match other stuff. If you're still following this thread Scale I'll be happy for you to mess up every mini in my box and have them turn out smaller
1) How quickly did you complete the pledge manager?
They're shipping pledges in order of completion, and from what I've seen so far they're still only on the "DAY TWO" completions - TWO MONTHS into starting shipping!
I understand the orders were very custom/unique, but...wow!
2) What number 'pledge' are you? Apparently this number will be on your pack slip in the box?
I was reasonably quick with the pledge manager, IIRC I completed it in the first 24 hours.
There is a slip in the box which says that my Game Box Number is 88/500, but I'm not sure what that means: were there 500 backers?
Edit: I should point out that I also received a free figure, one of the "fatty" Harvesters (I forget its actual name!). I was going to get some of those at retail so I'm really pleased
Edit #2 : The Riffs are amazing, now that I have got them in hand they are easily my favourite faction. I can see myself investing more heavily in this once it hits retail.

We still working on it entill everyone backer will be satisfated, so as allways if anyone have a problem with his package contac us by mail to: fallenfrontiers@gmail.com

Haven't got mine yet, wonder if I'll be last
(Just a bit of fun, I didn't fill int he pledge manager for a while so I should be down the end regardless)
spartan059 wrote: I closed mine on February 12, and I still haven't received anything yet. Does anyone know if you get tracking information or a shipment notice?
I didn't get a tracking number before my parcel arrived.
I imagine that from the date that you have provided you will be in the last batch of parcels dispatched, so no need to worry yet.
I definitely filled out the pledge manager, and PayPal took my money, still waiting from a reply from each scale75. Do you remember what shipping company brought your order?
Preorder prices for the forces don't look terrible, however it will be interesting to see what they go to. Sadly the prices for characters seem pretty high so I doubt I'd pick this up at retail unless it had amazing rules.
Yes, the prices for the heroes are a bit on the high side, but I can't remember the last time I was more impressed by figures in this approximate scale. I bought a fair amount during the KS, but once I had the figures in hand they were so much more impressive than I had anticipated from the screenshots.
I will definitely be buying more when they become available, Scale75 really have excelled themselves IMHO.
I don't know why I 'trusted' them with that much, but based on their previous larger...scale efforts and their paint line, I felt that it would be a 'safe' bet.
I as well, got everything except for the vehicles and the mercenary characters. Regretting not getting everything though, I emailed scale games and they said the vehicles and mercs would likely be hitting retail in 2017.
You've done a good job with your Riffs, the red armour looks pretty striking.
I'm still wondering what colour scheme to paint mine in, I'm hoping that I will have settled on one by the time that they reach the front of the painting queue!
No, at least I haven't heard anything. Now that the first "wave" of FF stuff has been released I would expect the next batch to be released in a month or two.
Speaking of the first wave of releases, I've just checked the site and the prices seemed to have dropped...or am I mistaken?
I could have sworn that there was a pre-order offer of 10% off of the RRP. I remember the heroes being 16.20 Euros (reduced from 18 Euros), but now they are 14.88?
I'm certainly not complaining, but I would be a bit disappointed if I had bought some at the pre-order special offer price!
I am still dealing with "issues" with Scale 75 over my pledge. I am fairly sure I know what they are going to do to "fix" it and I'm probably not going to like it given the initial responses. However I am waiting until it is finalized before I go into more details. How they handle it though will definitely be determining if Fallen Frontiers is something I want to play and promote.

Yeah they definitely dropped the prices on the heroes.
That's Spain's version of VAT and it's 21%, so the heroes are still 18 euro.
Automatically Appended Next Post: The casting was totally fine btw, I briefly checked the box before it went on the shelf (No disrespect to FF, almost everything I buy does that ).
Lots of grammatical errors and the like in the rulebook but not unexpected.
I was hoping, when I heard they were doing a different starter set than the Kickstarter box, that they'd put the Sayx in it. Still calling themselves a '35mm game' when not a single mini in either box set is below 40mm is never going to sit well with me but that's their business now.

So the Sayx Hero Dianne is 14.88 € + IVA on the site
In the pdf preorder she is priced at 18 €, and on preorder was 16.20 (and that is including vat). So no, the prices have been dropped.
As for the models being 35mm and none being in the box that are that scale, while the Sayx are (I did some comparison shots with all the model ranges I have currently) is really more your issue more than anything.

Sadly Arty is correct, I just did a checkout test on the scale website.
While I was there I was blown away by the cost of shipping one resin figure to the UK from Spain; the total cost for purchasing one figure came to 29.20 Euros.
Does anyone know of any UK friendly online stores that stock FF stuff?
