Flanges look great Dave!

I like what I'm seeing with the airbrush!

I hope to get some more time for airbrushing myself...I just bought a CO2 tank this weekend, and I can't wait to get it filled and get to work!

I'm loving the step by step with the ab, it's easy to follow and the results are speaking for themselves! very loudly i must say, as it looks excellent!

I hope you have a good regulator.... FYI a Co2 tank will give you a varying pressure (more so than a compressor with storage tank) and MAY give inconsistent results to your airbrushing (so I've read)

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/02/13 21:40:32

Post by: RSJake

Yep, got good regulator. I rented a CO2 tank for about 5 months last year, never had any kind of pressure problems. Always consistent. Loved it! This year I bought one. I hope I have the same good fortune!

I had a bunch of replies typed out and I clicked the wrong damn thing and lost them all
I'll rewrite them in a biy, sorry.

Meanwhile, here is the Original artwork (from the PDF) next to my 3D model.

I think that is the limit of my color-matching skils, close enough?

SOme touchup to do with a brush, and of course, hazard stripes, weathering, etc. etc.

Good lord man.... if you could mold those plates you could make a bundle (as long as they were easy to put together).

In any case... I applaud you good sir! *cheers* I still have cardboard versions of that I think... played on them for years. The thought of having substantial, 3-D versions of them that were far less flimsy is unimaginable.

Uh, I see lots of missing hazard stripes.

In all seriousness, great job! I think you have exceeded all expectations on your tribute to the original terrain.

Beautiful work Dave, just beautiful. That's the hive and the pipe-work I'm still considering approaches to flanges and you've done mass-produced a load of 'em. Too many distractions, far too many...
Great shots of the side-by-side with the card and styrene, shows the love you put into this.

Never been a real lego fan myself but have to say they are cool for the comic side of things

Lego buying up all the licenses, no wonder they are cash cows, most toys nowadays are all sold of the back of movies ……. Hell if they did not have that most toy industries would fall to there deaths due to lack of sales.

Hi Dave,

Awesome stuff here - following with slightly bias intrest .

Your order was resent on Monday - hopefully with you soon.

I can also second the Heresy Gangers especially the guy with the mini gun (mine had 5 bits of pin in the ammo belt - which is where flexible ammo belts came from.)

Cheers

Nice. One trick I've used when masking off stuff (NERF guns for a larp...) with tape to reduce under seep is to use the BACK (ie the "dull" part) of an exacto/hobby knife to "crease" the tape into irregularities, and lips..

man... very nice hazard stripes!!! by the way... to prevent the bleedthrough... you could do this: after masking the whole area...you just go over the whole spot with the black or any other maincolor for that building your current paintscheme uses...then after this has dried you use the stripe color...you see...the earlier spray will cover up any bleedthroughs... thats what i heard wallpainters do...

Excellent work as usual! Just some things painting wise: First of all I liked the last one better without the hazard stripes, it looked quite "realistic". (I know you want to stay true to the original terrain and you're doing a very good job of course.)
The other thing is, if your terrain has to have hazard stripes all over it (which is the binding element in everything necromunda) I would consider using a different hue of yellow, yours is so greenish, I think a little bit more towards orange, shaded down with brown would look much better and be truer to the original style.

Stellar work! absolutely amazingly good stuff! when you have the originals next to your terrain it just looks perfectly matched I thought the first one was actually z shaped peice I was looking at before i realised you were holding the print one in front! when i start work on my own I'll be re reading all through this thread and possibly pestering you with questions! I hope you're ready for it? but it's really your own fault for producing things like that which inspire us to make our own! because, well, we want stuff that damn cool!

I think it's the light Dave. I don't think we are getting true color in the photo. Even if it is off, it looks fantastic and a little weathering would hide any descrepancies.......

Which photo looks green????
I've looked at them all, I don't see it.
Am I colorblind?

Maybe slightly greenish, but it won't look that way if you aren't putting the two side by side. I suspect it's the dark color showing through the yellow that's doing it, remember most yellows are more translucent than other colors so what's underneath makes a big difference. I always do a white undercoat, then yellow, then the black stripes.

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/02/15 20:39:54

Post by: dsteingass

I do black first, because it is easier to touch up black stripes than the yellow.

AHA!

I see green now. on the left edge.

Post by: mxwllmdr

I don't actually see green. I see brighter yellow than the cardstock. I think it needs weathering is all, like it has been eroded down and the yellow paint has been ground into the metal, duller maybe but the same actual hue......?

But remember, I have no idea how to paint. My opinion may be completely off base.....

Dave : Now you mention it ……. no way does it look green I cant see it my self ……. Hell if anything it is to yellow as the Necromunda stripes look almost orange at times …. and I even checked our road markings and your are more yellow than them

mxwllmdr : Paint his flange Yellow ha I am of again he he heh tee heh tee

Vik : just say no ….. which Guard oop sentinel, the boxy shaped one or the egg shaped one

Why don't you paint the black, set up the stripes... then give it a white undercoat before adding the yellow?? That should solve it.

those dials are totally sweet looking!!!

and mate... i have to add to the yellow discussion here my 2c... yes it is not a rich yellow...yes it looks a bit cold... BUT... i think that is the essence of a hazard stripe... what do you expect a hazard striped space should look like??? comfy??? hevanes forbid! i looks like it is meant for a construction site...or for a murder scene ... thus it looks menacing... wasps use it to frighten predators... if they had a warmer yellow...birds would eat them more often... i think that is a fitting and convincing colorchoice for that purpose... stop that second guessing man! or you get the LD award medal...

and lets face it.. after seeing that brass and copper all over your terrain... when will you succumb to the steampunk??? it is shining through i think...the spirit of steamy punk...!!!

and to your suply drop...those are the bending pliers? the ones that were on that sale from micro-mark.... what is their purpose...*raises eyebrow*

and these lil spanners/ wrenches? i think we are in for a serious treat soon...

Great piece.

Do you have plans to fill out the base a bit?

I think a few barrels or a little debris around the bulkheads and on the base would add to a more lived in look.

I was going to paint concrete pour lines, but not too much stuff. Sometimes the bases can overlap on the table, so the flatness is by design. I have lots and lots of seperate crates and barrel-type terrain bits to fill in here and there.

Dave jobs suck always have always will, run by moronic arse holes that use and abuse your ability for their gain, but remember this with out you they don't have a fething clue.

A job takes up (on average) 1/3rd of your day so don't let it ruin the other 2/3rds, work to live not live to work.

We all get wound up but leave it their don't take it home (trust me I know) It takes some doing but it does work, just laugh it off don't let it consume you.

Sleep no bit seriously what I mean is, ok it is a most inconvenient part of your day yes, but overall it works out roughly to 1/3rd and then you have weekends, unlike you M0rdain hats of to you sir.

My point being is don't let it consume the rest of your day, after all if you do it will interrupt your sleep pattern ( trust me I have been there ) and all other aspects of your life, wether it be relationships, hobbies hell even eating.

I have to agree with Vik that Dave has of late sound slightly edgy with his replies, which further proves the point that it is effecting all aspects of his life.

I am bot having ago but just saying that with some mental training you can detach your self from it.

After all we don't want to loose the founding brother to some fethed up job do we …..

i too can attest the change of eating habbits and sleep pattern due to these kids of stress... and i would be a much grander man if i would be able to just shunt out that kind of work related problems... now that i am on the verge of getting into worklife...this will be awhole new lifesetting i will step in... bottlenecks all over... try to get two small kids fully geared up in the moring to lead them to school/nursery... that is in itself a full job with lots of possible chances for frustration... and then imgaine that with the damocles sword of the job and the working schedule in your backside... yeah...well we only can hope to have a nice worksspace to work at, with some (not all) collegues and maybe even a fair boss...tho i have yet to meet that kind of boss... and it is too easy to say that it is only 1/3 of your dayly life ...because lets face it... many peeps out there define themselves by their jobs... i dunno if that might happen to me now all of a sudden... but if so...you are very vunerable to evil influences via the job part of your life...and that poison spreads...er...i think i might have made my point but not up to any solution...er...on second thought i like your ideas better LDD... only that i think i am not that kind of guy...

tho mind you...i once had a boss during an aplication...and he got over my line...so i said: one more word and we solve that outside...welll he said i had a profile neurosis... i didn´t hit him for that... but after that he treated me not any more with his stupid jokes...

I have an extreme amount of patience, but that has come from my previous job. I used to Transport Prisoners from prison to court, then back again after the trial. When you have a Bus full of idiots banging on the doors and yelling, you learn to ignore them. You can’t let the stress get to you. It also helps in my second job as Doorman, were I deal with more idiots, although this time they are drunken.

So remember grab your earlobes and rub them and say “woooo saaaa” (Cookie if you recognise the quote)

But saying this, it gets completely on my wife’s tits, that I don’t get angry or stressed out at times, and having worked with prisoners where you have to not let yourself get sucked in. You kind of gloss over and don’t let your self care (or it could eat you up, or they could eat you up) so its had its downside that it has eroded some of my emotion and in turn empathy

Hey Dave, if you want, here's notes on a customer I had recently.

Spoiler:
Ticket ID: 298193 Agent: Bloodaxe, Skalk 2/13/2012 3:15:01 PM
Assigned Tier: 1 Issue Type: Diagnosis Status: In Progress
JOURNAL ENTRY:
3:53:46 pm EDT - Due to prev cust contacts, I researched all tickets in database and all ser ords / trbl tickets in XXXX. Per cust request, called CBR (XXX-XXX-XXX) at 3:15pm, went direct to vm that stated (business name, didn't catch it) was closed and to leave a msg. I identifying myself and stated I'd call back in appx 5 minutes.

Called CBR again at 3:20, this time I got a msg that the number had been disconnect. I tried redialing again, same msg.

Found same CBR in database notes from a ticket dated 02/21/12 (XXX-XXX-XXXX). Dialed again. Same msg that # was disc. Verified XXX-XXX-XXXX copied as msg listed digits, same as CBR.

Called home #. Got cust, she stated that she JUST cancelled her cell service. She knew she was changing it today but gave it as her CBR for us to contact her. Ok.

I explained to cust that her mdm had signal but did not have authentication, and that the situation was likely a username / password issue on the mdm. She became confrontational and condescending at that point and asked me if I was going to waste her time like previous tech did. I answered by saying that I was going to check the basics and help her get online. She said "whatever, it doesn't matter, I don't care".

I asked her what lights she had on the mdm, she stated she had everything but ACT. I asked if there was an Ethernet cable connected from her computer to the mdm. She said yes. I asked her to open a web browser, she said she already had one open. I asked her to clear out the address field, she sighed and said "10.0.0.2, yes, I know". When we got to the login page, she said that nothing worked, she already typed in the username and password. I asked if she had typed Admin / Admin, she said that wasn't the login. I asked her to try the information I provided, she was resistant and asked me why we were doing this. I advised this was standard troubleshooting and a first step in a situation like this. Another sigh and something mumbled. From that point I never heard another keystroke.

After I walked cust through the reprogramming steps on the mdm, I advised that it still showed offline and that from here, and that I waanted to verify physical connections. Cust stated that nothing had changed and that everything was the same. I advised cust that all I wanted to do was check basics because if an I&R trouble ticket was necessary I had to note that physical connections had been verified.

I started asking questions about the phone cable, she said "yes, yes yes, it's all connected". She wasn't checking anything. I asked cust which port the phone line was plugged into. She said "the right one". I asked what port the telephone cable was connected to (LINE or PHONE) and she said that she wasn't going through this and that she was She also stated that she was tired of my condescending attitude and that she wanted to know how to return her mdm because she was going to go to (local competitor). I explained that I was trying to help her but in order to do so I needed her to work with me. She said that she was going to call (local competitor) because their tech sppt was much more competent and that she was going to call my manager to tell him of the very poor and rude service she rec'd today and recommend that I be terminated for my incompetence and then hung up on me.

Mdm still shows offline.

So yeah buddy, I feel your pain and while our jobs are somewhat different, we deal with the same kind of people every day. I've hit total and complete burnout but I cannot find another job that would draw the same wage I am making now. So I drive on.

There are days where I'd sooner drive my car off a cliff than come to work. Today is one of those days.

Back on topic a bit, I really like the results you have been getting on your hazard stripes, it's a definite improvement from your earlier attempts.

Situations like the above (and a few other misc "life" issues) is the main reason I've stopped painting / modeling. I just don't care. I try to, I really do, but I have no motivation, no inspiration, and I've started selling off most of my stuff because I'm so very sick of looking at it. I'm keeping the Plague Marines and my Cultists though, no worries there.

But at least I have a job to complain about. Some of my IRL friends are not so fortunate right now.

The worst question to be asked in a job interview is "what do you think is your main weakness" I mean how the bent do you answer that? I said at one interview that I had no weakness; didn't get the job... Another interview I told them I had a weakness to kryptonite... actually that's a lie. But the worst one I had they loved me to bits but I was without ID apart from a driving license and it took me to long to get new ID so despite being blatantly British they didn't employ me. On the whole though I shouldn't complain as so many people don't have a job at all. Mines crap though...

Back on topic: (Does this thread even have a topic? )

Awesome stuff, personally I would have gone for a more "Ochre-y" yellow, as opposed to the bright colour, as it would have probably covered over the black a bit better. Regardless, it looks ace now you've fixed it

and i thought germans were the sheep bred ones... queing was once our major exportation...

skalk... that is really hard... let me say just one thing... we need your skill and creativity here... if that is the cause for all that silence in your threads...then i see it isn´t any wonder... please don´t give up on something that might really make a compensations for all the douchebags in your life...

and dave... now i understand (at least i think so) what makes you a bit grumpy... me i am a hot head... always have and i think this will one ultimate day provide the meand for my undoing... but heck..i don´t care... but with all that crap going on in your lifes... gosh that is how micheal douglas character from falling down must have felt... at least this might be the way i wold have reacted to such threats or treats from customers collages and bosses...

and as for weaknesses in job interviews... no one really wants to hear of your true weaknesses...what you do is take a strength of yours and creativitly let it show as a weakness... like... sometimes i am very absorbed by details... i want to get to the bottom of things and try to live out an obsession for quality... job interviews are nonsense situations... thats why you are mostly half a year on "parole" at work before the comapny truly accepts you as an employee...

and at mordian... i would have knocked my boss teeth out...as he was making bad remarcks about my then GF and now wife... and i go all charlse bronson from time to time if someone pokes on me...

Yep, that question is ALWAYS a way for them to check your BSing skills, they want to hear "My weakness is organization, however I am trying to do better all the time" or soe BS like that.

Americans don't "wait" in line for anything, we pave EVERYTHING so there is always room for 10x the parking capacity of the cars that would ever visit that store or mall. lol

lol... coincidentally we watched these stupid "funny" clips in the telly tonight...while zapping... and there was this suburban picket fences street...and the kids had a selfmade ramp and bladed and skated over it...and i said to my wife... in the US the streets are so wide that the kids can play on the street and the cars still have enough room to drive... here the kids would be been roadkill even in a oneway street^^

and that one is a very good example of ansering to these kind of questions...

other dumb questions are...:

were do you see yourself in five years from now...answer...on your chair...

or...

what is your is your addition/ why should we hire you instead of all the other fellas?
which i have no answer for atm^^

At on of the big three US wireless providers I have worked for, there were customer codes, the DA code was originally used for a customer that just barely qualified for one phone without a deposit. We re-tasked that code very quickly.

I also helped to establish and train our handset repair techs, before the providers began buying costly diagnostic equipment. This meant that often you could not diagnose the handset problems based on visual cues. I began putting notes on on the RMA forms with what the handset was doing/not doing as well as what I guessed the probelm might be. My 2 oddball out of many legit diagnosis's were Demonic Possession or Gremlin Infestation. I trained all of our first round of techs as well as a large amount of managers. About 18 months later an official company memo came out requesting that Demons and Gremlins no longer be listed on any forms. It had become a widely used reason code throughout our company and the VP of operations felt it was inappropriate.

Well, missed a night of interaction and on returning have no idea what the hell you lot are on about ………. but have to say after clearing two pages of abbreviations I have a large smile on my face

The only ones I really know of ( due to my low positioning in the company I work for manual worker) KPI and PPP which the later is the only one that has any meaning to me, the first being Managerial bs.

I find this part of my job tedious to say the least, its like they come in spieling all this gak at you, then I am like what and they say in basic neanderthal terminology and i'm like couldn't you say that in the first place

I gather in your industries there is a high call for it, however I just find baffling at times

Mind you it is nice to know the same gak happens every where in the world and together we can all raise the middle finger in unison to arse hole bosses every where

If the people of megaton are giving you grief go stand outside the gate for a few days - use the wait function.

In the british version of the game you can't kill children, We tried everything... I'm suprised the american one lets you - but I suppose its only realism.

If you want to and can reload it is possible to shoot Burke before he even starts shooting. As soon as he starts to get up just start laying into him and the sheriff will survive, or stand in between them.... You can still get a house in Megaton if he dies htough so it's no biggie....

....

...you get to kill children in Fallout 3? THAT IS AWESOME!!!

I love FO1 and 2 SO much, but never played 3 because of the "time-suck" issue.

Also because I have a PS2. I refuse to upgrade because I try very hard to have a life that involves real people, and beer, and other fun activities people engage in when beer is involved...

but you know, sometimes it's just one of those days where you have to fire up GTA- San Andreas and shoot a cop in the face with a shotgun.

Tomorrow I'm going to do some actual gaming stuff. There's a tourney and I've been invited by a few of my IRL friends. I really did not want to go but since I've been blowing *everyone* off (sorry Vic, I know what you are saying, I'm just not there yet) I figured I should at least make an effort.

Here's the rules as they have been explained to me so far:

400 pt limit.

MUST have 1 troop choice, MAY have 1 HQ (but no more than 1).

NO named characters.

NO models with more than 2 wounds.

NO 2+ saves.

NO vehicles with total armor greater than 33 (add front, rear, & one side).

NO ordinance weapons.

At 400 pts the Orks have a disgusting advantage because they can field a ridiculous number of troops (2 units w/ 29 Boyz and 1 Nob each, total 60 models. Other combinations exists for sure, but man that's a LOT of models to kill). I'm focusing on this because I know there will be at least 1 Ork player there that curb-stomps me every time I play him. The best game I've ever played against him was a draw. I know what some of the other guys are bringing (IG and Necrons) and I imagine Space Marines will be in full force.

So here's what I'm thinking... 400 pts would give me:

Idea #1- 20 Genestealers w/ Scything Talons and Adrenal Glands, giving them I 7 and 60 attacks at ST5 on the charge, re-roll any 1's "to hit" and automatic wound at AP2 on a 6. Also gives me an add'l D3 for Armor Pen. I can also use the Infiltrate rule, which really brings the Fleet and Move Through Cover rules to bear. It leaves me w/ 20 points I can't spend on anything, but against anything other than Orks I doubt my opponent would have the opportunity to hit me back in CC. If they have Defensive Grenades, that's still 40 attacks that hit on a 3+.

Idea #2- 20 Chaos Marines (split into 2 squads) w/ 4 Flamers, 2 Aspiring Champs (1 w/ Power Weapon), 1 Rhino. Uses all 400 points, gives me some mobility, and Flamers ruin just about everyone's day.

Idea #3- A day to stay home and drink by myself while playing GTA and screaming excessive profanity at the TV screen as I kill as many people as possible.

What do you guys think? Any tweaks / ideas / etc?

The Necromunda Project: Fallout @ 2012/02/18 00:22:36

Post by: Viktor von Domm

i´d go for option 2...flamers sounds always good...nothing cheers up a day as a roaring fire...besides option three...that is best left alone i think...better to stay in contact with rl peeps and friends... get yourself a beer and not to many.... you sound very spent/hurt...

Can't accidentally kill kids in the X-Box games of Fallout and Skyrim, but an attack on one will get you retribution from the adults in towns.

I have however seen that the PC users can take off that restriction and have shown images of them killing the kids that chat at you but only with the PC games. So if you play the games on computer, you get to do all sorts of things, also mods for homes/vehicles/etc. But I play console not pc

Mm i gave up on Fallout 3, i cant remember why lol. I barely have time to play PC games anymore, as its the same time as my modelling time. But i am playing Spacemarine on the XBOX some evenings. THAT is great fun.

On PC- I can't fething stand playing FPS games on consoles, I don't know how to aim with that stupid pad. WASD and a mouse is superior. Besides, I've earned a break

Vik, We haven't had those "streamliner" refrigerators for 60+ years, but this game it's nuclear apocalypse in a near future when the US had apparently gone into some retro 1950s design phase, or maybe we never came out of it (Max would know the fluff better) It's pretty cool, the old rusted cars are huge, finned boats with rocket engines Everything seemed to have been nuclear-powered before the fall.

It is a holy place

Generally I agree, I totally prefer playing a FPS on a PC. But I needed a game to play in Bed while my Wife fell asleep, for the nights I am not painting. Hopefully in a few months I will see if one of my friends has a copy of Skyrim they have finished playing that I could borrow.

You'll probably need a gaming laptop (with proper 3D video chip) to play Skyrim in bed.

i know it is probably counting as research studies to play fallout 3 but you are needed here too! rivets need to be riveted...they wait for no one...true story bro!

I think it is the story, and the unique artistic style of Fallout that has me hooked, but it is especially the social context that I dig.
-You are right Galorn, the unholy orgy of Government and Corporations caused the apocalypse in the first place, quite creepy to hear that radio signal considering.... I especially enjoyed the explosion of the Enclave base
-It seems quite likely that the US Government would create a computer president to try and keep the peace, and spread propaganda and highly likely that they would fool so many with that scam.
-I like how a person's skin color doesn't matter anymore, but "bigotry" now means something different with the ghouls, and is rightly shown as negative.
-I like how the crazy religions are springing up from the uneducated, as usual (no flame war please, entirely my personal opinion thanks)
-I like that the player has storyline choices, and thankfully can choose the humanist route when it comes to putting an end to the sad things humans always revert to, such as slavery. i.e. I can shoot slavers on sight.

I know I've lost geek cred for not playing any Fallout games before, but I hate to admit it, but I've never played any Resident Evil games either.

i would write to yakface or legoburner... i think this could be a good idea... tho it would leave me out... my phone still has a cable attached^^ lol

and dave... tho i think it would still be cool for you to lpay the old ones...the graphics would soon kill all the fun for you...i know that as i have recently fouhgt again through them.... and they suck majorly in the visualdepartment^^ not design of course...that is still so darn cool^^

by the way... i only played two Resident evil games... the first two ones...and i am somehow too stupid for those zombies...and back in those days my computer was always so slow... it took ages to open one door...and there were so many of them... so i throw it away... i enjoy the movies much more...

as for the robot president... dont speak out too load about that one... you never know who might be listening...^^

by the way... Capitansolstice used you as an airbrush referrence ...on zebras thread... now how does that feel? see...? you need to go back to painting asap!!!

@Vik- This is my process dood, it just is the way it is man, always has been my whole life. I MUST rotate my hobbies from time to time, or I get burnt out on building and painting. Whatever I do, I always give 110% naturally, I will play video games for awhile, then i'll build something from LEGO, then I will be back on the horse with an Xacto and Airbrush.
