Just a reminder....Legends will be hosting a GPT for Magic on Sunday Nov.17th. Due to the size of the tournament the gaming tables will be dismantled and not be available that day.
There will be gaming as usual starting Tuesday.
Sorry for the inconvenience....

Anyone up for a game tomorrow at Legends? Say around 12-1? I have to leave by 430 but that should be plenty of time for a 2000pt game

I could be up for a game at 12, though i don't suppose you would up that to 2500. Want to test out a list for a small tournie i'm heading to at the end of the month. If not it's ok, 2k is pretty close.

If legends is open for regular gaming on saturday we could meet up for a game. Are you comfortable/willing to go to 1850pts? Also what time are you looking to game?

I'd be down for a game of 40k tomorrow @Legends if you want. Want to bring my DE out for a run, ugh Wave Serpents...

Wow, completely missed this message sorry. Was a escalation tournie in hamilton at Black Knight Games.

Nah it was 40k, they do an escaltion tournie at Black Knight Games, every month the points increase. Think it starts at 1000 and ends at 2500 then restarts at 1000 again.

Would you be up for playing a game at heroesworld? I live halfway between HW and the GW at Y+L but I really can't stand the gamesworkshop scene there. I can do their tournaments but playing there when the redshirts are idle/don't have a lot to do is insufferable.

Just posting here to say that I picked up the Dark Vengeance set a couple of weeks ago and am planning to get it all painted up over the holidays, so after I get a handle on the basics, I'll definitely be interested in hooking up with some peeps for matches. Leaning more towards the Dark Angels a little more than the Chaos, but I'm open to eventually collecting enough of both to be able to play either. Got a friend who hasn't played since 3rd or 4th edition, not sure if he wants to get back in.

I live in Etobicoke. I don't have a gaming table set up yet, but we certainly have the space, so I'm thinking about it. Otherwise, it seems like a few stores nearby have semi-regular 40K days/nights so I may start hanging out there.

Obviously, I'm only interested in lower points games to start since I've only got the Dark Vengeance set, plus whatever I might buy on eBay or Kijiji in the coming weeks.

So, finally have a smidge of time, ideally more in the near future. Got a truly rediculous deal on a Grey Knights army at heavy support, so now I'm into Grey Knights. I thought I'd see if there was any interest in an exceptionally large team game? 12-15000 points?

Hey, been a while since we've seen ya on here, how's it going?

If i were to combine my Flesh Tearers and Eldar armies I can hit 13750 pts if that interests you, though from experiences in apoc level pt games we would need to set aside a weekend for it instead of just one day. From what I remember we only managed to do 3 turns in 1 day with lower point levels last time. The guys at Legends said they would be willing to let us take a couple tables over for a weekend and just leave the models in place over night, there has also been talk of a chaos vs imperium apoc game one of these weekends that legends would host for us.

As for this weekend, anyone looking for a game this sunday? 1850-2k pts is what I am looking for.

Toronto WH40K @ 2013/12/22 18:23:57

Post by: DXM

Hey kungfu good to hear from you..... We have been talking about an APOC game since the last time we saw you. Legends can reserve all the table you want. You can set up Friday night and start playing first thing Saturday morning, Play all day Saturday and Sunday. I know a bunch of players that would be interested in playing. We just need to find a weekend where everyone is available.

Hi all, I just found this thread so I signed up to DD. I'm in GTA and always having trouble finding 40K people to play with. Which is why I'm so happy I found this thread. If anyone here is interested in a 1500pt game please let me know. I drive so am able to get to pretty much any location on the weekends. Saturdays and Sundays are the best for me but I can also meet up after work Mon-Fri.

Aside from that I want to wish to everyone here a Happy New Year and an awesome and safe holiday season.

Cheers

Okay, so last Friday was a bust, and this week doesn't look so good either. I may still be good the week after, though. I'll probably be okay for any store you guys tend to frequent (Meeplemart, Duelling Grounds, GW Lawrence, Friendly Troll...I'm not nearly as familiar as I'd like to be with Legends, but I'm sure I can make it). I'm also learning Infinity right now, so if anyone is up for a game, awesome.

Welcome to the site, always happy to see more gamers in the gta. This forum is great for setting up games, finding players, and locating stores in your area. Depending on your location in the gta and how far you are willing to drive, there could be many different stores for you to try, there should be no shortage of gamers in your area.

Legends Warehouse: north of toronto in vaughn is a great store, 20-30% off purchases, lots of open tables and terrain and a very active player base with great store hours as well and big free parking lot. Also where i personally do most of my gaming.
Meeplemart: east end of toronto, haven't been because it's a long drive but I hear they have a good player base as well.
Dueling Grounds: downtown toronto( bloor/dufferin), played a couple games here, lots of tables and terrain.
Heavy Support Games: west end of toronto (etobicoke), 20-30% off purchases, has open tables, though you run into a lot of mtg players there and the tables aren't saved for any one game. Free parking lot as well.

There are others in and around the gta but I personally haven't played at them so can't offer an opinion about how 40k friendly they are. I would suggest you try and set up games online first before heading to these stores though, most are destination places and just showing up and hoping that there will be players there ready to go is unlikely.

2k pts? I'll probably be bringing the FT's, since it's been a while and at least once a month I get the feeling like I can actually win with them.

Spender: you still looking to game tomorrow at 3?

Sorry I didn't catch the names of the all players who were playing at Legends this weekend ( Saturday ). The player who had the tan and blue Tyranid army....We found a couple of Termagants hiding in the terrain......I put them aside and you can pick them up at anytime.

Hi there stranger aka guy who made this thread, like 30,000 years ago. What took you so long to get into 6th? Anyway, happy new year.

Anyone down for a game this Saturday at Legends at 3:00?

Hi CGBSpender, I'm definitely interested in a game at Legends. I can make it this Saturday at 3pm for sure. I have a 1500pt 40K army I can bring so would be awesome to get a game going.

Rythem, thx for the warm welcome and heads up on the locations.

I played at Legends before and usually get into tourneys for 40k that are held there and around GTA. But gaming just for fun I really have no one to play with. :( My friends are not too into gaming hobbies. I also heard about Dueling Grounds but haven't been there as of yet. The other 2 locations you mentioned I haven't heard of before but will gladly look them up.

If you are ever interested in a friendly match I'm available on weekends. Looking forward to meeting some of you in person. Thanks again.

Fair question, yes I'm 27 and a 'mature gamer' (I've been reading horror stories of people's experiences, oh dear). This will be my first game of 6th, hence I'm aiming for a lower point limit to familiarize with the rules more than anything (rereading the rulebook too). 1 PM will work fine.

Yes it does

I had a feeling it was something to wanting to play an adult who would (hopefully) be more mature, know the rules and not getting babysat for free etc..

I just thought it was a funny thing to say

Lol, you want nids? Have you actually read the codex yet? I'd say nids are probably worst 6th E codex so far, all the good things in the codex got worse, or took a side step in terms of power. They then added 3 new units and only 1 of which might be good, going to be a rocky road for nids till 7th edition comes out and they bring back assault .

Speaking of which, anyone want to get some games in? I want to start testing out my nids too see how screwed my lists and tactics are.

And yes I have the codex, it looks good on paper. It looks the same to me as last edition, but no more biomancy. Good no more T9 monsters, that was stupid.

Toronto WH40K @ 2014/01/14 03:23:41

Post by: Rythem

lol the same?? Not even close to the same...
doom is gone
mysetic spore pods are gone
hive guard have -1 bs
swarmlord is more expensive as well as losing all his special rules and no more biomancy
tervigons are way way worse, i doubt people will be fielding more than 1 of those
our in book psychic powers aren't a good exchange for losing all other trees
our warlord traits aren't even worth mentioning, probably just stick to the book ones
the fliers we got are just quad gun bait since they are t5 4+ armour save which the quad gun ignores
IB went from inconvenient to down right punishing
zoanthropes have the same warp charges no matter how many you take, so taking 3 is a waste of points. Plus 1 deny roll cancels the entire group.

there are other more complex problems but those are the most noticeable from first looks through. Now there are a lot of good changes as well, but I have a feeling the bad out weighs the good so far. Lol, t9 monsters may have been rough but every codex has some cheese in it, is t9 cheesier than facing 4-5 riptides, or 3-6 hellturkeys? Plus it was a power that you had to roll a 1-6 chance to get. Other than swarmy no one else in the codex (who would actually use it) had a better than 33% chance to get it.

Dee: Sadly i'm only available during the day this week because of work, need to be done before 4.

Nope. The main guy at Heroes is really nice. However, the tabletop gaming area is just not as nice as the area at Legends.

Toronto WH40K @ 2014/01/14 19:53:33

Post by: punkisntdeadyet

To be fair, the terrain at Heroes World is comparable to gaming at a GW. There was a healthy influx of terrain from the Conquest guys. It also suits more types of gaming (fantasy, warmachine, 40k). It is a bit more cramped than the Legends area, but I've never had a problem with it.

Toronto WH40K @ 2014/01/14 23:06:06

Post by: Dark eldar elite

Terrain and 'nice staff' aside, the gaming area is a bit too cramped for my liking, and the tables are too low for my back to enjoy Oh well, to each his own. Just my opinion. Also, I love Legends, so maybe I am a bit biased

Eh, the bad stuff is so easy to rag about, that it makes it hard to find the good things in the book. There is always an opposite side to the bad list:

Carnifexes are back, 40 points cheaper each, and can mix and match weapons
Termagants are cheaper, and can mix and match weapons as well.
Hormagants are cheaper, though losing the talon ability could be rough.
Hive Tyrants are cheaper by a bunch, and ML 2 now.
Venomthropes are way better, just need to hide them effectively and you army gains some crazy defence.
Trygons/Primes are cheaper, though the loss of the talons rule could also be a problem.
Biovores are amazing, better stats, and the mine rules are a good buff.
Tyrannofexs went down a whopping 75 pts, also the only 2+ save in the book now.
I think sitw is way better also, it's a -3 leadership to all psykers, not just on psychic checks.
Deathleaper is also an interesting choice for HQ slot, comes with a lot of fun rules and tactical possibilities but not being synapse could limit his use sub 2k points.

Even if it is a bad codex it won't limit how often I play them, hell i still play my BA's and they are atrocious right now. As it stands, until i get some games in it is impossible to know how my nids will stand up. Which is why i'm hoping to get games in on saturday and sunday this weekend if people are interested. I know sundays are usually good, tends to be a good crowd even without making plans, but saturday can be hit or miss without a confirmed opponent to start with.

100% guarentee? I'd say no, there are always extenuating circumstances that can prevent you from getting in a game. Legends runs MTG tournie/releases a couple times a year and they tend to warn off other players because of how busy and how limited space will be. You could also be the odd man out if everyone else there had already set up their matches before hand. But I would say most sundays there is a good chance of finding some games at legends, though the best way is always to try and set something up first.

So, this Friday, I'll be helping a friend test out the new Tyranid codex at either Duelling Grounds or Heavy Support (one or the other, I'll post an update to this message when a location is decided upon). If anyone else wants to show up on that day, then I'd be happy to get some more games in.

EDIT: It will be at Duelling Grounds. Not sure how many people go there, though.

There are plans for a Fantasy tournament in the near future and as for the 1500 pts...... to speed up the game a touch and a bit of a challenge to build for a smaller army. I've had a few player being scared off when I mentioned 1850. Hopefully 1500 will be a compromise, being within reach of some new players who want to try a tournament but don't have to buy too many new units to fill their army list.

Each player usually brings about 6-7 Riptides......

To be honest, the guys who play at the legends tourney don't play with the usual tourny armies, we all tend to play with what we find fun

What optimus said. We like to have fun and you won't see typical tourny lists. At least that's how it has been for the games I've played. This is the reason so many of us like this venue for games. 3 heldrakes or 3 riptides etc won't make you many friends but that's up to you. We are there to have fun. Looking forward to it.

Hey feerful, always happy to have new/more gamers up at legends. I'm free this sunday for some games, what time were you thinking of starting? Legends has shorter hours on sunday (11-6) just an FYI. I might need to use 1 minor proxy (just not sure how I want to convert it yet), though if it bothers you let me know and I can just switch my list around to not need it.

It's so true, optimus pretty much always brings the cheese, though as long as someone else brings the whine then it's still a good time. .... Why are puns so hard to resist?

I can play a 1500 point game at 1 pm today (Sunday). Not sure if tables will be available at Legends; sounds like lots of people have games planned. We could also play at my house...full table and terrain...I live 5 minutes North of Legends. I wait for your reply. Please let me know before 10 a.m. Thanks.

@ Kungfujew

From Faq for big rule book

"Page 43 – Special Rules, Vector Strike.
Change the second paragraph to read “When Swooping, this
model may savage its prey. At the end of the Movement Phase,
nominate one unengaged enemy unit the model has moved
over that turn. This unit may even be an enemy Flyer. That unit
takes D3+1 hits, resolved at the model’s unmodified Strength
and AP3, using Random Allocation. Against vehicles, these hits
are resolved against the target’s side armour. No cover saves are
allowed against these hits.” "

BOOOOOOOOM

Ahh, i knew you weren't allowed cover saves against vector strikes, since it is basically a melee hit. Should of checked the FAQ after the book, oh well.

I'd be crazy not to try out the new nids so I will likely bring them but I have a few new painted Ultramarine things I'd like to try out too so one of those two. I actually find it hilarious that you you bring up Yonge and lawrence in response to his post post; I've actually seen a player in a friendly game scolded by one of the staff there for having an old broadside (quite the coincidence I know) on one of the old small bases. I'm pretty sure their base size was increased and they want you to buy the new bigger bases for them. Anyways. Yonge and lawrence blows. Just sayin

I have been going to Yonge and Lawrence for years, I have never been given a problem there. Chris is the manager there, and I can guarantee he would not have given a crap about something like that. If it was one of the other people there, just tell them to leave you alone and bring it up with Chris. GWs for the most part are lame I agree but its a great place to play. I can come by with 1000 points of guard if you want to have a game. PM me!

Forum,

I had quite an opposite reaction from Chris (with the ear rings) from GW Yonge/Lawrence.

I have a few metal Necron warriors in my collection amongst several units of plastic ones, his words exactly words last Septmber were:

"Your old models are, hurting my eyes". -- Chris Slye

As a once loyal Games Workshop customer and even part-time summer employee since 2nd edition, I was so overwhelmingly offended that I have never returned to that store. The customer base there also came off as quite 'clique-ish' and hyper-competitive.

Fortunately for us in Toronto there are other great places like LegendsWarehouse / Sci-Fi World, Heroes World and soon Meeplemart (reopening), where I can't imagine hearing such offensive, elitist words uttered to their customer base.

Just my two $0.02.

That is his sense of humor, he made fun of your toys so you got butthurt and never went back and now trashtalk the store on a forum, good on you, way to better the hobby!

@Jae4x4:
Either way, it's how C'Tan honestly felt going into the store. If he had a bad experience, how does that impact the hobby by writing about a particular store/venue? Picking fights on a public online forum & insinuating a lack of maturity... the irony isn't lost.

Generally speaking, having been to almost all of the GW's/FLGS, most have decent terrain and are fairly welcoming. I haven't been to Yonge and Lawrence in awhile, but the terrain quality is what you expect from one of the larger GW's. Go with a friend and it's generally okay. You're also guaranteed to have players around, which is nice... the supposed "clique-ness" & "hyper-competitiveness" aside. The other venues suggested are fine too.

Yeah, I went to the GW yesterday, and didn't see any of the hyper competitiveness or clique-ness everyone is so down on.

Plus I think the fact they have a paint station so you can totally just hang out and do some hobby-ing before/after games is a nice touch.

I know Chris Slye when he worked in Mississauga and Oakville and he was always a cool dude. I also think he was just joking around around with you. However, it seems he misjudged his comments with you that day. Perhaps if you told him politely that you were offended by his comments he'd refrain from making further comments.

In the end, not going to a GW isn't the end of the world. There are plenty of good gaming venues in the GTA. Although based on my past experiences, arranging a game beforehand is the best way to guarantee games. I've walked into several FLGS' during scheduled gaming nights to find them empty.

Hello everyone.

Just joined DakkaDakka. You can consider me as someone "new" to the gaming aspect of the hobby and 6th edition 40k. I started taking an interest in GW miniatures back in 2010 and have been on and off painting miniatures and I never really got into seriously playing the game.

About a year ago I chose CSM Death Guard as a my first real and dedicated army to paint and play, but I've been too busy to finish painting them. It's been a very slow but gradual process and I would like to try them out in a real game possibly to help motivate me into getting them done. During that time. I also made myself a complete but shabby homemade modular board and I have some finished terrain from Pegasus Hobbies to go with it.

The gaming stores I've visited were the old Cross Swords, Dueling Grounds and Heavy Support Games. I haven't been to any of the other places mentioned due to the distance but I may be able to visit other stores around the GTA.

I've never actually been able to play a "real game" of 40k and I would like someone here to show me the ropes if you don't mind playing against unpainted armies. I have around 2500 points of both Chaos Space Marines and Daemons with another 500 still being assembled. Other than that I have a planned but not yet started possible Adepta Sororitas (Sisters of Battle) or Female Space Marine Chapter (Non-GW models) army I would like to get done as well.

Welcome to the forum, and the gaming side of the hobby. You will find that this is a great way to set up games and meet players in the Toronto area, and I doubt most people you meet will have a problem playing against unpainted models or new players. For the most part I play at legends warehouse which is located in Vaughan and am always happy to help new players learn the ropes if that interests you.

On a side note, anyone looking for some games this sunday? Looking to play at legends around 11/11:30, let me know.

I would like to play a game or two with you guys but unfortunately with my current transportation circumstances (TTC/Subway), the Legends Warehouse and Hero's World is just too far away. Possibly in the future I may be able to make it up there.

The farthest store I could reach would either be the GW store at Yonge/Lawrence or perhaps the Friendly Troll store near North York Station (I'm not sure if they allow or have the adequate space to play since I've never been there before).

I'm not sure what the GW store policy here in Toronto is for unpainted models and Forge World models. A significant portion of my Death Guard is is comprised of Forge World parts (just for visual fluff) and I do have one or two out of date models. Judging by some of the opinions/comments it seems the GW store may not be the best place to visit, considering I have a preference for Non-GW and unofficial models. I'll also admit I don't possess a physical and legitimate copy of the 6th edition rulebook.

Currently this month I'll be free on Fridays or the weekend and can make it Thursdays in the evening.

Hey everybody, I was wondering if anyone knew where I could get a Chaos Aegis Defence Line - they seem impossible to find online, and I was hoping someone had spotted a box in the Newmarket/Toronto area? Thanks!

I'm not afraid of converting an imperial Guard version, but would like to save some time.

Also, I'm about to have a 1000 point Chaos army, and will be moving to the Dupont Station area in May. I have a friend re-vamping his Space Wolves army after years of neglect, and am looking forward to finding more 40k allies opponents downtown. Cheers!

Have you checked out Meeple Mart? They just opened at a new location down at Spadina and Dundas, so it's pretty TTC accessible.

As for GW at Yonge and Lawrence, I'm not sure it deserves the hatred it gets. I was actually pretty weary about going there as I remember their store at the Easton Centre way back in the day, and they where pushy, didn't let you play with in-painted/un based models, had small tables, and where not a fan of you using them for long.

This GW on the other hand is pretty great. I've been there a couple times now, and so far it's pretty great. They have a lot of gaming tables and terrain, and the painting station at the front of the store is a great place to hang out and get painting tips from other hobbyist.

Anyhow, you will need a copy of the rule book in order to play there, and while they do allow FW, I donno about other minis.

Also also, Meeple Mart carries things like Kromelech in blister packs, so it's super convenient to get a really good feel for what those bits are like as far as size and detail go.

Also, GW seems to be the only place with a specific Warhammer 40k night on Thursdays.

Yes any model is fine for the most part!

Just sayin

That was probably Dan, luckily he is long gone, Curtis, Chris and Brandon are good guys though, Dan was a company zealot with tons of sand in his lady bits. And they are fine with whatever models you bring as long as its GW.

Besides that, Astronomi-con is coming up and wouldn't mind getting some practice games in so a few friends and myself will be there Saturday and sunday with astro missions.

2pm works with me, and proxy doesn't bother me at all. I've played against demons before so it shouldn't be too big of a problem remembering what is what.

Speaking of bits trading does anyone have an extra Drach'nyen (abaddon's sword) laying around for trade/sale?

In response to Ravenous D: You're exactly right; It was Dan.

Hey spender good games today, though that second game was a bust. I recalculated my points when I got home and I don't know what I was thinking but I was way over a 1000pts, the exocrine should not of been in that game. Least the first game was even, guess we know why I use army builder now with simple math being so hard .

I live right next to the Friendly Trool, there isn't an active 40K community there but they do have space for gaming. I'd be up for some evening gaming, let me know if you are ever interested

Dan's gone? I had no idea. Otherwise, agree with you, re: GW Yonge & Lawrence staff. Dan was an intolerable stickler half the time, but Chris has always been a cool dude, and while I've only met Brandon (or is it Curtis? Forget which one) once, he seemed to be okay as well.

Also, for those interested, I'll be heading out to Meeplemart this Sunday to play a friend. If anyone is interested in also getting a game in, then that'll be fine. If anyone here is playing Infinity, then I've just started, and am always interested in getting some learning games in.

Hey Toronto-area 40k-ers, I was wondering how strict you guys are with your army point values?
Say you were playing a 1000 point game, and you actually had 1003 points, or 1008, would your opponents generally accept it?
If there is a margin, what is acceptable?

Like the posters above in a frriendly game I don't mind so much, as long as it's only a few points. 15 points and should should get rid of that extra special weapon however.

Alright, so would anyone be interested in playing a introductory 500 point game against my chaos daemons? We can play a much larger game up to maybe 2500 points but the rest of my models aren't fully painted yet and I'd like to start off small and simple.

Locations (from closest to farthest): Dueling Grounds, Meeplemart (Spadina), Heavy Support Games, GW store (Yonge and Lawrence) or the Friendly Troll
Time: I'll be free anytime during this Friday, or Weekend (no expected plans so far)
Extra Terrain: I can bring a 6 feet by 4 feet homemade modular board (first one I made) and some terrain
Other Games: I have an EDH Magic The Gathering deck I use very rarely (like once a year with friends an occasion)
Photos/Media: With your permission, I would also like possibly take photos or even a video of just game/board and miniatures with a cheap camera for private use (or public with your permission of course)

As I said before, this will be my first time playing a "real" game (rather then me just shuffling 1 or 2 models around), so I may get some of the rules wrong and I'm pretty sure I won't be remembering every single specific detail etc. That being said, I'd prefer if we could play at Dueling Grounds if I am bringing my modular board, but I'm willing to travel farther.

I'm free on friday from 12pm onward if you want to do some intro games, though I wouldn't worry too much about being fully painted since most people you will meet in this hobby won't be fully painted either. I know I will probably never have a fully painted army since I keep adding to the ones I have now and really don't have the time/skill/patience to paint up all my models . We can meet at dueling grounds since that is closest to you, and I will be down in that area anyways in the morning. Though i doubt you need to bring a table/terrain with you, most stores have multiple tables and shelves full of terrain to use. Let me know?

Great! I'll be heading to Dueling Grounds then on Friday by 12 pm then. I called the store and they gave a Greenlight for using their tables on Friday (since they regularly allow Warhammer on Saturdays). There should be table space.

If anyone else is interested in coming down or joining us, we can play a few games or even a combinations of games.

I'll bring my board and some terrain since I actually haven't had a chance to play or even set it up before, but we don't have to use it though.

Thanks for the Game at Dueling Grounds, despite the heat/stuffiness down in the game room, my lack of knowledge with most of the rules, and getting my butt kicked horribly in both games, it was really enjoyable. I apologize about the cursing/swearing due to the hilarious and unexpected rolls. I did not expect my 1 plague champion with a power fist to hold off that entire squad of Eldar bikes for 2 turns by himself, winning the challenge and then cleaning them up with a sweeping advance. That was... Awesome.

Next time I probably won't be lugging around my modular board, its just too heavy.

Thanks again for the game. Hope to play you again. Cheers!

woah! Can you elaborate on the LED job? I'm building my Knight and I want to LED the eyes as well, so knowing how someone else did it would be a big help!

Also: Sunday. Meeplemart. Anyone going to come?

Eyes were easy. I just drilled though both of them towars the center and made a single hole for the LED in the back of the head. Lots of space in the body for the battery as well

Gun was a little harder as the arm can still move left to right, running the wires involved some fun threading.

I was there last Sunday, and asked one of the store guys if 40k was every Sunday, he was pretty non-committal saying something along the lines of check the FB page (which, in all fairness, does say every Sunday).

Also played on that one table closest to the TVs, really like how the tiles make deployment really easy. Not a fan of the lack of light.

To optimusprime14: It shouldn't be too much of a problem to for me to come down to the Friendly Troll on Monday (April 14th?). I can arrive at around 12:30 pm or later and can stay till maybe 6 or 7 pm.

To Rythem: I'm alright with playing at Dueling Grounds on Saturday as well. I can arrive at anytime the store opens. Just won't be able to bring my board like last time (thing is too damn heavy). My Daemons should have a slightly updated look now, since I finished painting all the details and highlighting.

Edit: Dueling Grounds is also hosting an Escalation League for 40k beginning on May. I'm not really sure what that's about though but would willing to attend if I can.

I can work around that then so it shouldn't be a problem. How bout 5-9pm, since the Friendly Troll closes around that time. I just wouldn't be able to play the for the full day since I need to set time aside for other things.

Majikoi: I can be at Dueling grounds for 12pm on saturday, and I will bring a new army for you to play against.

Oh wow, I somehow missed this entire thread while looking for GTA games a few years ago. This sure wouldve been helpful.

How many of you fine folks frequent Meeplemart? I've only had the chance to play once at their new location (though I played a lot at the old one on Queen East), and the place is fantastic. I do hope Steve installs more than one lightbulb over the game tables though. It's still getting settled though, so I expect that to change.

If you ever see me and my beastman Diablo/Doom inspired Khorne army there (or maybe my Golden Imperial Guard, now that the new codex is out), please say hi! I'd love to get some games in, and I'm more than happy to help out newer players.

For casual games, what's your guy's consensus on trying out homebrew rulesets? (no, not obscure fan-codexes, relax) .
Namely, I've been dying to try out the Heralds of Ruin Killteam rules, which by all accounts seem to be vastly superior to the official, and rather cobbled together rules. It's much more in line with older GW skirmish games like Necromunda or Mordheim (and even has really awesome campaign rules). Check out the free rules, and let me know if anyone would be interested in trying out a few games this, or next weekend (I'm assuming the store will be closed on Easter Sunday?)

I've also been kicking around a few rulesets of my own that I'd really like to test out. One is an alternating activation turn system for 40k, and the other is a Domination style mission type that involves respawning units and should play out something like an RTS or Battlefield type game. Again, if anyone is interested in trying these out for a bit of something different, let me know.

Hope to meet some of you guys in person soon!

Just a quick reminder that Legends Warehouse will be open Friday from 3:00pm to 10:00pm. So if you are looking to have a game, come on up.
See you then

McGibs: I've been going to Meeplemart pretty consistently for the last few Sundays.

Their new location is amazing!

I'm totally down to try those home-brew kill team rules with you. Especially since they're so similar in tone to the old Gorkamorka ruleset.

I was waiting on something before making plans, but I'm pretty sure it's not happening now so I was going to head over to Legends now.

I have, literaly, nothing to do today, so if anyone else shows up I'm up for more games. Otherwise, I'm staying away from home so I have no excuse not to start glueing.

Well, with everything that was "wrong" with that game, I don't think I've ever had more fun getting tabled. Although it is odd that the figurative disintegration of the army was matched by a literal disintegration of my models. Granted, I haven't played chaos in a while, but has anyone had their models literally fall apart en mass when you pick them up?

I have when I used GW's garbage glue on my Grey Knight Terminators. They would just implode in my hand when moving them from the case to the table.

A lot of my early chaos models were assembled using that really bad batch of GW plastic glue. Just crystalized into garbage instead of welding the plastic. At least once a game, I'll pick something up and and arm or a horn will pop off like it was held there with rock candy.

I should be at meeplemart today(sunday) if anyone wants to try some aforementioned heralds of ruin killteam games.

Questions: are Forgeworld models and rules permitted in friendly games? Tournaments? Are they official 40K? I don't want to buy any if I will never be able to use them. Also, same question for Escalation stuff and the stuff outlined in the book with all of the fortifications and force fields? If I buy a super heavy model from Escalation, will I ever be able to use it and it's rules? Thanks guys.

Ahh, a fun/loaded question... lol, as it stands right now a lot of forge world models have been allowed into regular 40k games. When it comes to friendly games it always depends on your opponent what is acceptable and what isn't, since anyone can easily just refuse to play against an army that they don't want to. As for tournaments, it is 100% up to the TO (tournament organizer) what they will/won't allow. As for escalation/stronghold units it's pretty much the same thing, they are officially allowed but friendly games might see a lot of people saying "no" to facing a super heavy since they tend to be game breaking and (personal opinion) pretty boring to play against. Someone else will have to comment on the major tournie scene, but for the smaller ones i've been too so far, escalation/stronghold have been 100% banned, and forge world models are on a model by model ruling whether they are allowed or not.

Now for my personal experience so far against super heavies, i've faced 2 imperial titans with D ranged weapons that I found to be very boring games. 1 game against an orc stompa with normal weapons and D melee weapons that was kind of fun but it never made it into melee with anything I had on the table. 1 Defence laser/bastion set up with D ranged weapons that was pretty boring, and a baneblade with normal ranged weapons that was alright to play against, but difficult to kill with the army I brought.

If the superheavy has a D strength ranged weapon or apocalypse sized blasts I'd prefer not to play against it. Personally, I'm just not a fan of auto kills at range or blasts that big. But then again, I'm not a big fan of crazy deathstars or suped up ally combos. That said, as long as the blasts aren't apoc sized and or have str D ranged, I'm definately game to try fighting against a titan or other superheavy, as long as the points value is big and I know in advance.

Thanks guys.. I was contemplating getting some stuff... I have been playing with someone who has been using Forge World stuff, and I didn't really know anything about the stuff, aside from that fact that he was bringing 4 flyers and each was cheaper than a loaded dark elder skimmer!!!.... and I was tired of having the game always turn upon the arrival of the sky dancing, 30+ shot (with re rolls), strafing models. After losing some close games due to these stupid flyers, I realized that they were actually from Forge World... the guy was saying that he was going to bring a Super Heavy tank to play, and I figured that it would likely just eat through my Dark Eldar army in one or two turns, and dark matter would do little to stop it, especially given its 9 Hull Points :(

So, instead of not play, why not play, let your opponent use what he wants to use and have fun with it, but then you gain a free rule. What ever gets destroyed by D weapons, they come back, go into reserves or ongoing reserves. They get killed for a 2nd time, then on a 4+ they come back again.

Simple rules we should be able to accept if we want to use weapons that are not balanced at all. If your opponent can't agree to that, then you are correct, no game then.

That is a good attempt at compromise. I fear that it would not make a difference to the game's outcome, but it would at least make things interesting

It's just a personal preference and we seem to be saying the same thing. Rather than add a houe rule, my caveat would be, 'can you equip it with no D str ranged or apoc sized blasts?'. I'm all about the beer and pretzels mentality, but if I have no super heavies, I'd like to keep as much Apoc stuff out or a 'regular' game as possible while still letting you play what you have.. I've played people's tournament lists with army books and models I bought the previous day and had a blast, but I know the kind of game I like and like to make sure both myself and my opponent have fun. If he's really looking to try something new, that's fine. But some things are designed to be played with other things and if someone asks me if I'd play against their Titan, I'd prefer to play against it if there's no str D ranged weapons or appocalypse style blasts. If you wan to bring your knight, go nuts. If you want to bring a warlord Titan, that's a bit much for me. A smaller Titan, sure, I'll try it. A buddy of mine says he has a dark Eldar Titan and I'm hounding him to build more of his regular guys so we can have a big enough game that I'm comfortable to fight it without an super heavies of my own.
