Do you know if you guys are doing a 2v1, or is spender going to be coming with a friend? I wouldn't mind trying out my 1k list for the upcoming legends tournie, but so far don't have a partner, or 2 other people to test it out on.
Daniel_Holmes wrote: Anyone play warmachine? I just got a starter set and I'm looking to learn how to play, been reading the rules just need an opponent.
Well, you fell off the radar, but if you find your way back I will play.
I have a Khador army.
Let me know.
Fun game... Lots of melee action... Straightforward mechanics and quicker to play.

1850. Are you ok with going to GW? Also you going to be using your CSMs? Me vs two Heldrakes = very fast GG. I have no way of dealing with air. Unless you let me proxy Havocs with Flakk Missiles...
Automatically Appended Next Post: Also, HSG is hosting their tournament this Saturday. 1500 points, $10 entry. They said there weren't many players there last time, so I'm not going unless someone else from here is. That way I can play that person if there is no tournament.
Not sure if I want to go to GW though since I don't buy anything there...
What do you want me to bring? I could bring Daemons I guess, and going from there if we get a 2nd game in I can bring some Heldrakes into the playing field
Well I am heading to gw regardless. I need the AC... I rarely ever buy from gw either but I still take up their space . I'll be there at 3:40 if you need me.
Trying to plan my games for the weekend... Anyone up for early Saturday morning or early Sunday morning? My place...let me know.... Duel or 2 x 2... Whatever
Doesn't look like anyone is biting... The only other option Makutsu would be if you and your friend wanted to play 2 v 1 (me). You could both use the upcoming tourney rules and I could put together an army of sufficient size to equate to a 2 person opponent? Let me know ASAP, so I can plan my day; otherwise, I will have to decline. It would be my place at 9 a.m. Saturday. Let me know.

Good game everyone. Let's do it again sometime. Really surprised we lasted that long.
I think one problem you had was the Space Wolves drop in with all his 1000 points into a 2000 point zone, that he has fight all alone while the CSMs chill out in the back.
The Heldrakes can provide them with support, but that is only possible till turn 2, whatever is left of them...
Yeah, had a couple great games today. I agree with andrew, with the choas marines so far back and being on foot or heavy weapons it leaves the space wolves alone vs twice their point value.
Spender: Little off topic but when I get my dwarves going would you be willing to do some noob games with me so I can relearn how to play fantasy (ugh) .
Rythem wrote: Plan on being at my cottage for the labour day weekend so I'm out as well, I am available for games during the week though, if there is interest.
Thursday at 4pm sounds good to me, I wouldn't worry about the fantasy too much. So far I have 16 warriors that I'm going to point up before buying anything new, it's going to be quite a while before I am fielding anything table worthy. What is a normal level for fantasy armies these days? I read somewhere that 2500 is the norm but who knows if that was true, what point level do you guys play?

I know cgb said he's free this weekend so we could wait to see if he's free as well.
If anything what time would you prefer? Legends at 11:00 on Sat or Sun? For a 2000 doubles?
I chose one that's closest to the situation but you can search as well.
In summary, if the Aegis covers 25% of any model when drawing TLOS, it will confer a 4+ cover save regardless of which side it is on.
True, though if you read that linked discussion they say that models close to the defense line firing at models far away from the defense line do not incur a cover save for the far away models. Imagine standing at a wall that comes up to your chest. You can shoot over it no problem and see all of the enemy but the enemy cannot see all of you.
I think I'm gonna make a diagram showing how walls work and carry it with me for games.
Anyways not important because you wiped me anyways.
Good game to everyone!! Also who was interested in the Chaos? I got the chaos from the starter set minus the Hellbrute and I got a metal daemon prince.

I'm free this weekend for games if things are going on. As for fantasy, I don't have an army yet. I plan on building it slowly at first till I know what I want to buy. So far I have 16 warriors and a BSB set up.

I'm free from 11am onward, not sure if Spender will be there. We haven't really worked out our doubles list yet either. Any point level is fine with me, i've still got piles of printed off sheats in my case so I can do whatever.

K, tomorrow at 12:00 @Legends 2000 points? We'll play 40k for now until you have your fantasy stuff set up
Ahh, i read it as it twin links the other weapons on a vehicle and since you fire all weapons at the same time that 1 scatter laser would twin link another. Luckily it only affects the war walkers since all other vehicles come with a twin-linked scatter laser option. Guess I finally found a good target to cast guide on, since I would usually just waste the cast on someone that wouldn't get good use out of it anyways.
Lol Dee, that would be true but you have only faced my new eldar like twice since you refuse to leave your basement and play outside.
* Update on my fantasy army, it's in the mail and on it's way to me, hopefully will have it in 7-10 business days, then i just need some movement trays and will be good to go. Turns out s/h was only about $40 so all in all a very good deal for me.
*Spender: I've worked out another list for the 1k doubles tourney, and have also started painting again. Managed to paint 10 more dire avengers in the last couple days, so only need to finish the 7-8 warp spiders and another squad and I will be good to go.

Yeah I can't do early mornings right now because of gf agro, I usually free by noon though, if we want to plan something for that time.
Agro (Ah-Gro) is a RPG term. It means when you have an enemy targeting you because you activated it from a rest

Draigo is a beast
Ha ha... so Rythem has to let the gf remain at rest!
I am playing AGAINST Grey Knights for the first time, so I will watch out for the psycannon guys, dreads and Draigo... if I play my DE, I guess I will try to overwhelm with targets and bust his psycannon carriers first... maybe even swarm his dreads with a fat beast pack to keep them busy...

It's pretty much a somewhat guaranteed win for DE if you play against GK, once you kill all of the Psyfledreads you have a huge chance of winning.
The rest of the army has majority range of 24" guns with the 6" reduction with night shields, the only thing they'll do is die to Venom fire.
Shoot Dark Lances into Paladins as it IDs them.
GK is slow and doesn't have much long range firepower besides the psyfledreads which will give you a hard time if you don't take them out.

I don't know about that, they are a 24" army but if they knock DE out of their transports it's game over. I wouldn't call them slow, they have Rhino, land raiders and Stormravens like any other marine army. And they have alot of shooting at 24"

A 24" army with 6" reduction means that they'll never be in range to shoot any Dark Eldar boats, but DE boats all have a 36" range and can just kite the GK around for the entire game.
The only things that can really hurt DE are the psyfle dreads due to the range.
LRs are the most cost-efficient thing for the Dark Lances to shoot at, so LRs aren't much of a problem.
Rhinos are death traps for anything inside, on top of that all the results on the chart apply to the squad inside as well. Shaken, Stunned and Pinning test are going to render the already slow squad useless for a turn.
Storm Ravens do cause a lot of trouble for DE, so it might be wise to take a void raven or quad gun to help take them down.
I'm not saying that GK have no chance of winning, it all comes down to list construction and skill and of course luck during the actual game, but I see a bigger advantage for DE rather than GK.
Interesting debate. I'm excited to see what happens. I could bring 3 x Ravagers for my heavy options, or 2 x void ravens and 1 x ravager or Talos..... I don't want to give away any tactics in case my opponent is trolling!
Optimus: I am up for a game Sunday morning... I have to finish by 1:30 pm.... Let me know on forum or text my cell... I can start anytime.. Any point value

Anytime I get to beat you that badly (twice) it's a pleasure!
All I can say is that you beat me badly the first game, but the second game was my win if it ended at turn 5, so I think it would not qualify as getting beaten 'badly'... Just 'getting beaten' would suffice!

Not disputing those facts. Just disputing the use of the phrase 'beaten badly' in the context of BOTH games, when it really only applied to the first game.

I do not play at GW store locations for a whole host of reasons that typically apply to each location.
I play at Legends (and my basement ) Legends is at Langstaff and Hwy 400 in Woodbridge or Vaughan. Very healthy gaming community there. Great staff. Great players. Great gaming tables and terrain. Gaming area is separate from the retail area.
figure this is the best place to ask and not bother with another thread.
can anyone recomend some Toronto/North York area shops where i could purchase painting supplies?
I want to get back into WH and figure give a local business some of my cash.
Plus i like to brows a store and see the products rather than ordering from an online screen.
thank you.
Vaughn: Legends Warehouse (huge paint brand selection)
Markham: Heroes World (Stocks GW, can order P3 and Vellejo)
Mississauga: X Planet Games (huge paint brand selection)
North York: Games Workshop Yonge & Lawrence. (Stocks GW paints)
Well, I can only speak for Legends.
We are located in Vaughan
http://www.legendswarehouse.ca/index.html We stock GW products, Warmachine/Hordes, have stock Citadel and Vallejo Game colour and can order P3 paints and Vallejo Model colour
We also carry many hobby supplies such as magnets, sheet plastic ,Green Stuff/Milliput, paintbrushes( GW & Kalinsky ) and glues, both plastic and Super Glues (CA),
Hope you can make it up.

Sure, lets try fantasy out, want to aim for Saturday in case we are ridiculously slow and need more time with the rules? How did the game go with spender this weekend, i've gone over the rule book 3-4 times, and my own codex probably about twice that many times so hopefully I won't be too bad on the rules. Also what point level were you thinking? I've got enough to field around 3000 pretty easily, so anything below 3k works for me.
Hmm, I need to pick up some movement trays before the weekend as well, i hear it makes things a lot easier.

How about we do 1500 points then, i hear 2500 is the new normal point level for fantasy so 1500 should be a good number without being over/underwhelming. I wasn't going to buy movement trays, i was thinking of just using a cut up cardboard box with some metal on the bottom to magnetize.

Movement trays are surprisingly cheap, only like $1-3 per tray, so it's not that bad.

@MrFlutterPie.... Look for the guy with the white hair....that me
@Canuckish....if you haven't paid yet, you should preregister.... it's $40 per person....$45 at the door.... hope your dice work this time
Ok. Well, if we don't get confirmations, I will not be showing up, unless you are willing to do 1000 point Tourney FOC game with me in the event that no one else shows.
So you are confirmed for 10 a.m. I am confirmed. Just need 2 more confirmations for 10 a.m. 2x2 at 1000 points as per tourney FOC, at Legends.
Yeah great games today, was good to get a final test on my tournie list before next weekend. Also fun to play some fantasy afterward even if we had basically no idea what we were doing.
Countdown is on........only 5 days left till Legends Warehouse Battlegrounds : Toronto Double 40k Tournament. For us...terrain building...and lots of it...all custom. This going to be exciting..... You can still preregister and save $5 a person or $10 per team. .......See you Saturday

What time are we supposed to be there by??
Ditto, I couldn't find a start time or schedule posted anywhere
Hey, just wondering if anyone is up for a game this thanksgiving weekend in the downtown (Friday to Monday.) Still learning the hobby, and I cant drive yet (only 16) but I really want to find some people to play with regularly outside of the GW Lawrence store (don't really like the atmosphere there.) I am close to Dueling grounds, and I can get to Heavy Support Games. Been trying to get into the hobby more, but its hard as I don't really know anyone who plays
Anyone up for games this weekend? I would love to play on Saturday or Sunday morning - either at my house early, or 10 a.m. sharp start at Legends. Let me know. Or I could do a Monday (Holiday) game in the early morning at my house.
Andrew here, I have played a few Warhammer 40K games at Legends Warehouse in the last while. I had a really fun time and I am looking for a few more Warhammer 40K games.
Quick Background: We have been collecting 40K models on and off since late 2nd edition / late 90s, the collection totals about 34000 points, 1200+ models in 12 painted armies (1/3 grey knights are painted) of various sizes. I have played about a dozen games of 6th edition games and I feel fairly comfortable with the rules.
Looking forward to enjoying a 40k games with some or all of you fine folks in the future,

Welcome! This thread is the only reason I'm still on Dakka!
my name is Taylor and starting on the 25th of October I'll be available Friday evenings and all day Sunday for games of 40K. I live at the Keele/Finch intersection and do not have a car so travelling might be difficult.
If you'd like a game, hit me up - I'm willing to host, play at your place, or meet up at a hobby shop, depending on the distance of course.
I've been collecting and playing Tyranids on and off since 2001, and am recently going to start up a Tau Farsight Enclaves army - as soon as I can find the forgeworld pieces!
Canuckish wrote:I use this thread to find out about tourneys in the area, then guexs who from this thread I have played
so far I think I played Rythem ( were you the eldar from doubles tourney?)
and Optimus (legends months ago, were you tau / ba?)
Yep that would have been me. Were you the DA?

Hi there Andrew. This is Jim and I'm an older 40K player that is looking for a casual game on Saturday. I'm west of Toronto (Georgetown) but can make it to Legends or anywhere else in Central and Western GTA for a game.
I'm free this saturday if people plan on gaming at legends. I'm up for fantasy or 40k or both if there is interest. 1850-2k 40k or 2k-2.5k fantasy are the point levels i usually try and game at. What time are we thinking?

I can try 2k Fantasy if you want, need to get some moving trays though...
Cardboard cutouts it is!
Thanks for the games on Saturday C'Tan . I love killing imperial guard scum! Actually, Sisters were fun to kill as well!
Automatically Appended Next Post: Welcome all newer players on the forum. I am a 38 year old gamer who loves to play most weekends. I play only at Legends or my own house, and I like early games. Looking forward to playing some new players... Tired of bating Optimus all the time! . .... no need to bring up our last games Optimus! Just let me live in my delusion!

I'd normally say come in to legends and game with us, but makutsu and I are playing fantasy for basically the first time so I have no idea how long the games will go. I wouldn't be able to promise a game of 40k afterward without knowing before hand how long the fantasy games will take. Also don't know how many games of fantasy we are going to play.

Play til you crumble before my Daemons! My army can easily switch between the two so I can play either, but I think it's time to try Fantasy out
Going to be at Legends on Sunday at opening, anyone looking for a game? Want to do 2000 point is prep for the Klash tourny (2 primary missions: KP and Obj.)
I'm thinking of getting back into wargaming again after an almost year-long hiatus. I know that Legends and Meeplemart are the two most popular spots on this board, but does anyone frequent Friendly Troll or Duelling Grounds? Those are the two stores I'm most easily able to get to (aside from GW Lawrence that is).
I know some of the guys frequent Friendly Troll, and I have heard a few people mention Duelling Grounds as well. I went to Friendly Troll ONCE during advertised 'hours of business' to simply end up standing out front for 1 hour before leaving. Called many times and no one answered. Spoke with manager/owner/employee the next day to complain, and was told that basically, lots of the workers are students, so sometimes it's hard to get them in on time. I would never go back. I love Legends, and my basement

I get the impression, then, that Friendly Troll is the sort of place where you have to arrange a meeting with an opponent beforehand. Ditto for Duelling Grounds.
I've never been to Legends, to be honest-- I keep hearing amazing things about it, but having to take the YRT all the way to Woodbridge never struck me as ideal. It's the same problem I have with Meeplemart, though at least the TTC is somewhat cheaper.

It's best to arrange games in advance for all locations, but I would never return to a store that has such disregard for their own posted hours of business. I had arranged the meeting with my opponent, and we both showed and waited to no avail...apparently, we should have also involved the Friendly Troll shopkeeper in our plans
If you are up for early Saturday games, I am always happy to pick people up at the subway station. I will even drop people off afterwards, so long as they don't table me
Anyone down for a game this weekend?
If there's no Fantasy then I might go play 40k
More Dakka and I will be there Sunday at opening. Doing 2000 pts Klash format, we could use a 3rd!

I'm good for Friendly troll, just let me know when!
They do open later in the day, DEE if I remember you went there right when they we supposed to open. IIRC, I've never seen them open up earlier than 2pm, however the nice thing is they don't close at 9 and usually stay open later (I've walked by at 11pm and they were still open)

Lmk : )

If things don't work out, i'm free thursday if either of you want to make the trip up to legends . Anytime after 2pm on thursday works for me, preferably 1850+.

I'd be down What's Lords of War?
I might swing by and watch you guys game/ pick up a game if anyone is hanging around and wants to play. Lords of war is the tournie he is going to for fantasy, which is also where the 2400 pt value, that we have been using lately, came from.
Rythem- let's play I didn't hear back from anyone. Let's play at merplemart tho. I'll be using a mostly new experimental list at 1850 so take that for what it's worth

I'd be fine with that, except I was going to pick up something I ordered in at legends at the same time, rather not make 2 trips if I could avoid it.
Hmm experimental list you say, maybe I should come up with something weird to field.
I really like legends but I'm a bit exhausted from driving 1-2 hrs north through rush hour. Let me know if you want to meeplemart after all tho, I'll grab my stuff after work

Yeah I would have to deal with the same rush hour traffic driving up to legends and than down and across Toronto to get to meeplemart. Guess I will pass as well, 5pm is really not a good time to be trying to get anywhere in around the Toronto area.
