This is a long ask, but does anyone remember the post (or who it was that posted) about a guide for what expansion packs to go for in addition to the main game? Think it was possibly about 30 pages ago although can't find now for looking.
Actually a good question at this point would be, are the expansions necessary, or is there enough game in with that main box for some decent time campaign gaming?
Am shocked to see copies of the main game appear in the store, so will most likely get one before the US wakes up (I assume they will probably sell out at that point).
You don't need any of the expansions. They core game is a lot of content.
Of the original expansions generally the ones people like the best are the different knights as they're easy to work in and can give you some cool cards and equipment to work with.
Outside of those are the Dragon and Sunstalker, they add new start and endgame conditions.
Next are Gorm and Spidecliease (SP?). They just replace a mid level creature. The spider one has the coolest armor set in my opinion.
The lion god is meh but there's an additional expansion, silver city, in this KS that should make it better.
The tree just adds a meh scenario, only get that if you really like it.
I don't know much about manhunter or slenderman, have them but never really used them. They're scenarios like the knights and the tree but I'm not sure where I'd place them.
Gamblers Chest - no-brainier at the insanely cheap $100
Dragon King - supposed to be the best big campaign expansion , it’s either this or sunstalker campaign (can’t see myself needing both big campaigns+Abyssal Woods), and the dragon mini just craps all over the sunstalker
Spidicules - supposed to be just ok, but required for abyssal Woods
Dung Beetle Knight - most people say this is the best medium-sized expansion
Flower Knight - amazing mini, gives great gear, required for abyssal Woods
Honeycomb Weaver - very cool concept, also gives you a very early monster which is great, and integrates with abyssal Woods
Abyssal Woods - biggest expansion ever, dragon Goblin is the best model I’ve seen for kingdom Death, you get so much stuff and the lore is insane... a required purchase IMO
And I was like, that’s fine that’s so much stuff.! So naturally when the PM reopened I added
Gorm - hate the mini but people say it’s so good and one of the first you should buy
Manhunter - nemesis variety, great reviews
Slenderman - same as above but also replaces kingsman
Nightmare Ram - dungeoncrwaling? Yes please!
Oblivion Mosquito -might be my second favourite mini after dragon goblin, and it’s an early monster so likely to see a lot of play
Death Drifter - need at least one Wanderer expansion so I can use the rules in the Advanced Rulebook

Yeah...
I originally had
Dragon King - love the model, the expansion is meant to be great and seemed like good value at $75m
Lion God - the model is alright, but I wanted the Silver City expansion expansion so I needed this one.
They were the only two existing expansions I pledged for to start with, as the new stuff was more exciting, I’m a sucker for new stuff.
Abyssal Woods - obviously. The Dragon Goblin is a stunning model, and there’s so much included.
Ivory Dragon - intriguing concept art, I love big monsters.
Screaming God - the model is excellent, as are the narrative sculpts with it.
Nightmare Ram - I almost bought the Nightmare Ram when it first came out in resin, and the dungeon crawler idea sounds cool.
Oblivion Mosquito - I think this is my favourite Kingdom Death model, possibly one of my favourite models ever.
Silver City - the different creatures seem really cool.
Black Knight - I added this when the pledge manager first opened. I love the model, he’s awesome, and I regretted not adding it.
Since the Kickstarter I bought Spidicules second hand (but new in box), as it’s needed for Abyssal Woods, and I like the model. Since the Kickstarter I’ve wanted more of the original expansions so I focussed on them this time, assuming (and hoping) the PM will open again before wave four so I can add more of the new expansions I want. This time I added:
Gorm - like you I hate the model but I’ve heard nothing but good things about the expansion.
Dung Beetle Knight - awesome little model and again meant to be a great expansion.
Sunstalker - apparently the best (or close second after Dragon King) expansion, the new campaign is meant to be awesome and I quite like the model.
Flower Knight - gorgeous sculpt and needed for Abyssal Woods.
Slenderman - wanted a new Nemesis and he’s the coolest.
Lion Knight - had trouble narrowing it down to one Nemesis, and I like the Lion Knight sculpt. Also you get a bit more in it now they’ve added the role survivors.
If the PM opens again, I’m gonna get basically the rest of the new expansions. Campaigns of Death, Death Armour, Red Witches, Gryphon, Frogdog, Pariah, Inverted Mountain, Honeycomb Weaver. Everything to play the Inverted Mountain campaign. Some of the models (Frogdog, Honeycomb Weaver) have really grown on me after the initial ‘that’s a bit too weird’ reaction. I might add the Gamblers Chest if it opens sometime before wave 3 but it’s gone up and really my favourite models are the monsters so I’m not sure.
I haven’t even played yet (waiting for my sleeves) so I may have a problem.
I have done it. Ordered the base game unit. It's a lot of money, but I know I would have been kicking myself for years if I didn't get it then didn't the opportunity again.
Added the Death armour and Nightmare Ram. The death armour sculpts just look so damn cool. Not even intending to play with the expansion, just want the armour.
Now I just need to continue passing willpower checks and not get the abyssal woods yet... I need to buy Christmas gifts damnit.
While I went pretty big during the KS, I went and added just a little bit more:
* Black Knight
* Death Armor
* Honeycomb Weaver
I was back-and-forth on the fence for the Weaver for the longest time (since the 1.5 KS), but ultimately added it because I have the rest of the Abyssal Woods content and I want to be able to run a full, standalone AW campaign.
While I now have 2 of the Inverted Mountain components, the rest doesn't speak to me, so I'm just holding. The pinups are pretty cool, but I'll have so many Survivors coming, I think it's better I wait until the rest are built.

Wow!
Where was that total posted?!?
No it didn't here's the link to the running total and original post where it was $2.6 million
That is still a ridiculous amount of money for a miniatures board game.
Would make an interesting business studies coursework for someone trying to analyse exactly what it is about Kingdom Death that has made it just so popular.
Unique creative vision with a style that is appealing to many, executed very well both rules- and miniature-wise, extremely passionate creator/auteur of the type that inspires a cult-like mentality in his followers... and titties.

I`d say that`s 50%, another 50% is powered by the fact, that one was able to get all this only during KS with a bit of a discount (or he`ll have to wait an unforeseeable amount of time/be scalped by ebay).

I really hope so, and am planning on it. Since they reopened it for Wave 2 (which delivers in February, and already had the plastics for it produced), I would be very surprised if they didn't reopen it again for later waves that aren't even completely written yet.
I was planning on adding Abyssal Woods, Spidicules, Campaigns of Death and the Screaming God to my order, but instead I decided to complete my set of the original expansions and plan on adding more cash to Wave 4 next time the pledge manager opens.
I ended up getting Spidicules, Lion Knight, Lion God, Manhunter, Dung Beetle Knight, Green Knight Armour, and yes, even the Lonely Tree. I figured there are a few expansions I wouldn't pay full price for but still want to get (I'm a completeness freak), so now was the time to buy them.

Kingdom Death completeness is very expensive. Fortunately, I cured myself of that compulsion years ago, which saved me a lot of trouble.

Of course, I still overbuy things that I like.
Oh, I know. Fortunately I've managed to keep it strictly limited to Kingdom Death material with rules content. It will still be expensive, but once Wave 2 hits I will have everything... Until Wave 3 and 4 of course...
Sadly just overpriced Christmas ladies, and the holiday white speaker has already disappeared. Also dice.
For those that've built her, is the Xmas Twilight Knight any larger herself? I know she's on a 50mm base, but it's a pretty detailed scenic base. I'm wondering if the lady herself is a regular sized human.
No cash flow problems, it was just some coordination issues from what I understand, China sometimes does that.
Well worth the wait though, they are the best sleeves in the market in my opinion, extremely hard and durable and way better manufactured than anyone out there, especially for that price.
This is my honest opinion, but I have to disclose that I know some of the people from the Mage Company.
That's not what the person running the KS has said, they ran out of funds and went looking for a cheaper distributor, which they didn't find. Due to that we are waiting on the pleasure of Games Quest to send stuff as and when they can and when Mage can pay.
Link to KS comments;
https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/magecompany/mcg-premium-sleeves-and-accessories/comments
As you know them personally can you ask them very, very nicely to get the sleeves sent out sometime soon? Its comical that the KDM first wave was delivered before some sleeves...
Last time I checked with them, their "future business" is simply selling sleeves they already have, by the normal channels.
I cannot see the comments from MC in the link, probably a KS thing, I can ask them when I have the time to visit, that though may be a long time ahead, given my work schedule...
Unfortunately if it is a GQ prioritising bigger companies over MC I do not think there is much they can do, especially if the stuff have already been delivered to GQ...
I am on the same side with you I have not received my pledge, but I do have bought a few packs for my copy of Aristeia, that is why I can vow for the quality of the product, it is just that my stance with every kickstarter is it will be delivered when it is delivered, so I do not care much about them be late.
Just to chime in about the Mage KS. I got my pledge rewards last Sunday, so they are still shipping them out, despite the massive delays. I can confirm that the sleeves are very quality though. I have been playing KDM with my cards sleeved in regular card sleeves since I wasn't going to wait, and the Mage ones are a lot better. I actually just ordered a bunch more for my Descent cards and the KDM cards coming in wave 2. Hopefully that cash will help push some other people's KS rewards closer to shipping too.

interesting to see that the above 1st run is not resin but photoresin (ie 3D prints)

This game kinda makes me uncomfortable, and I'm a pretty blunt and harsh person. I'm not a puritan, either... but not sure how I feel about penis monsters.
I wonder if we can have wave two shipped with wave three. I think I bought only one wave 2 expansion, for $15, so $18 in shipping is not something I'm comfortable with.

The quality of the models looks pretty solid. Just, I tend to take my games to the shop and host events with them. Kingdom Death might cause a bit of a panic. I even heard about how it works and I liked the premise of it.

unlikely, these will (probably) be being shipped out by a 3rd party distributor and there won't be a way to delay yours
not paying shipping will mean it won't go out but I bet youd still be on the hook for wave 2 shipping when wave 3 came round

That really seems like too easy of a solution, doesn't it?
JohnHwangDD wrote: then don't bring that particular monster to the shop.
Our shop has a very specific rule: Do not bring anything to the shop that a family can't play. I wouldn't want some kid coming in, doing a demo, then going home and telling his mom to order it. We don't sell Cards Against Humanity because of this reason- all it takes is one really pissed-off mom going on the store's social media page or Google reviews and leaving nasty panic-inducing reviews (and dragging several other harpies with her).
I might make a thread about something like this one day.
I might look into this for my home, but I'd have to drum up interest first. And that price point is a bit painful, but I have to see what's available.
How does it play compared to Dark Souls the boardgame?
... OK, then I hope to all feth that your shop doesn't carry Warhammer or D&D or Magic other games that glorify violence and death, because that would make the world's biggest fething hypocrites.
And quite frankly, if you think Dark Souls is OK for families and children, then Kingdom Death is OK for families and children. The whole "NSFW" thing with KD is totally overblown.

Look, I get it. I also get behind the idea that it's not a shop employee or owner's place to protect everyone's kids and all that, I'm totally there with you. But it's less about how we feel about it, and more about not wanting to deal with shrieking soccer moms that are terrified that their kid may have seen a resin penis or tiddy.

It's not my call. Like I said, we could hang splatterpunk posters up, but put up some gal in a chainmail bikini and the mommies start bitching.

Please take any further post along this line to a separate thread, as this one is for the discussion of Kingdom Death News and Rumors - thanks!
Damn it, I try to watch his shop fairly regularly, but I missed this one.
Maybe he'll have a redo out in another year or two...
I think I'd have bought at least one of every character model he's made if I ever had the cash/knowlege of his KS when they happened. Or if they were for sale regularly.
Alpharius wrote: ...and then I wonder how long the wait will be for Wave 3...and the all important Wave 4?
I'm guessing it will feel like a long time, no matter what the time frame is!
Actually I'll be too busy with Wave 3 to not notice Wave 4 slipping further into the future. But Wave ! and Wave 2 are glorified reprints--Wave 2 not even glorified.
The question is where is the development of the Gambler's Box and the new expansions. Did Adam and co. learn from the first KS and maybe we'll have the Gambler's Box by Xmas, or...
I've been in rehab for a few months from KD crack. Just realize that to paint what I have got take me around 20 years. But damn sad panda I am cuz missed Cleric

These are the expansions from Wave 2, ones that have been previously released. (I am sorry, when we reopened the pledge manager our inventory was devoured and the production run was too far along to add more to the queue. - Poots.)'
I bet Poots is busy trying to produce more stock, because the leftovers from opening the PM aren't enough.
OTOH, I got mine early, so I also kinda hope he stays on track with Wave 3. I've finished building the Core Narratives, so I'm really wanting the Gambler's Chest models. Narrative females have such gorgeous hair and skirting it's almost unbelievable.
highlord tamburlaine wrote: I'm with you John- the gambler's chest is my most anticipated item due to the sheer variety of figures that are coming in it.
Although I'm really fond of the first hero sculpts we're getting too.
Same! The First Hero couple look really good. Too bad that's Wave 4, so it's even farther down the line.
The only other models I kinda wish I could have gotten separately are the Apotheosis male & female, but I didn't want the rest of their expansion.
Fortunately, there are a *TON* of models in the GC, so I think I'll have enough on my plate to tide me over for a while.
Is this game even attainable? I love the concept but the whole creating artificial scarcity thing seems moronic to me. Great models, great background, great rules. Why not produce more???
Midnightdeathblade wrote: Is this game even attainable? I love the concept but the whole creating artificial scarcity thing seems moronic to me. Great models, great background, great rules. Why not produce more???
Absolutely, it is. Core game is in stock, shipping globally.
There is *no* artificial scarcity involved here. This isn't Nintendo trying to manipulate sales numbers. This a very small manufacturer producing at the limit of its capability.
If Adam knew for sure that there was greater demand, he absolutely would produce more - he's in the business of selling things, and the Monster side of his business is designed to sell in 5-figure volumes. When he booked factory time for Wave 2 production, he had a floor of preorders based on initial Kickstarter Pledge Manager volumes and late backers (about a year ago), and he added what he anticipated to be a year's worth of product sales. Then, he re-opened the Pledge Manager (about 6 months ago) to capture a few more preorders, and was deluged by people wanting to add a LOT more stuff, to the point that some items were almost entirely pre-sold. He shipped all of those preorders, and nobody who preordered appears to have gone without. He just didn't anticipate that there would be that much pent-up additional demand. So now he'll need to produce more stock for the store as part of Wave 3, in 6-ish months. There are probably 25,000 to 30,000 copies of KDM out there, and he's probably sold something like 20,000 Dragon Kings expansions.
____
In other news, I've completed building my Survivors!
Midnightdeathblade wrote: Is this game even attainable? I love the concept but the whole creating artificial scarcity thing seems moronic to me. Great models, great background, great rules. Why not produce more???
To add to John's response, the game itself is attainable. The problem is with the extra models that they make, like the Valkyrie and Bard, that aren't really a part of the game. Those extra models are the hard to get models.

Echoes of Death unboxing! It contains gameplay content!!! I received a special copy for promotion on BLL direct from Adam. It’s a hard plastic release and for sale at Gen-con. I don’t believe it’s exclusive to gen-con but it may sell out.
Looking nice. Not going to be there this year but I could barely get into the booth last year just to look at the new models for the KSer it was so crowded.
I'm very excited for Echoes of Death as a re-imagining (in plastic!) of 4 generic (i.e. non-Monster) pinup-like models to bring them into KD:M. I think it's pretty significant in that it highlights a few things:
1. Generic Classes are *not* part of the Monster (otherwise, he'd have remastered the for plastic, rather than reimagining them by translating their generic fantasy designs into Monster-specific designs.
2. There are significant revamps to how Settlements will develop, where individual Survivors bring benefits to the Settlement as a whole. This further emphasizes the Settlement over the Survivor, just in case that wasn't clear before.
3. It's hard plastic, so Adam has managed to secure more plastic production, so it's possible that the GC and other Wave 3 content is also in production, in addition to the 3rd round of original Expansion production.
I'm assuming that he made 5,000+ (a typical minimum hard plastic run), and that they will be available in the shop later. I'm hoping that I can also add them to Wave 3 when we confirm address and pay shipping to reduce my shipping costs.
If it’s one thing I regret not going to Gencon for, it’s the KD booth. I now feel the pang of the plebeians who have to wait for the shop to be updated!

I'd say that this is going to be very unlikely, but fingers crossed

In the short video I mention above he specifically says the generics are a "creative outlet" and "not part of KDM proper". These revamps are indeed proper survivor versions of those as you say. He also says the new system included in the Echoes of Death box is just a taster of what will eventually become a properly integrated system in the game. Basically, you achieve Milestones as indicated on the new cards, and when you do, a new Fighting Art is permanently added to your Fighting Arts deck for this playthrough and all future playthroughs as well. So it's a sort of legacy mechanic.
I don't know if this is a custom board for the demo, or the plastic boards we'll get if we pledged for one, or bits included in the black knight expansion... but dang, that board looks pretty cool.
Pretty sure it’s the Black Knight expansion. Looks like the dog Knight there in the lower right.
That seems like too much feature creep even for Poots. The working theory is this is just a display board for GenCon then? Because I want that terrain...

Pretty sure those statues are the ones you bounce off of iirc. I’d imagine it’s just a display board, but he may offer an ultra expensive resin version sometime down the line, but I’d be surprised.
DaveC wrote: Gencon releases normally go on the store a week or 2 later as it’s plastic he probably had a decent amount done.
From the comments Gencon releases seem to be
Cycloid Armor
Death High White Speaker
Echoes of Death
Sci-Fi Saviour
to quote myself
yeah Cycloid Armour is not new ignore
Prices for the rest
$25 Death High White Speaker (photoresin)
$60 Echoes of Death
$25 Sci-Fi Savior (resin) Marked as Gen Con exclusive on the price list the others aren't but all the Sci-Fi minis are marked that way and they have had limited release after Gen Con.
I hope he has a LOT of the "Echoes of Death" to put up for sale at that time, and that I pay enough attention to my e-mail to catch the sale before everyone else and their uncle grabs a copy - or two. Or three.
I'm pretty sure that Echoes will be regular restock - it's plastic, produced by the 1000s in bulk volume. Unlike hand cast resin where he makes max 1000 at a time.
Chairman Aeon wrote: What exactly is Echos of Death? Are they wanders or something else?
It's a box of four survivor miniatures that also comes with rules for a new gameplay system that lets you add new Fighting Arts to the deck permanently (meaning to any future campaign) by achieving special milestones.. In the future it'll get fleshed out although we don't know in what form. The minis aren't connected to the rules it seems, aside from the art on the cards depicting them.
Purely hipotetical question...what if one gets Silver City and doesn't get lion god?
I kinda do want that expansion for it's contenent. At the same time, I don't have Lion God, don't wanna order just it, read it was mediocre, not really that big fan of a mini. Do you think that one could play silver city expansion withouth lion god and substitute him with something?
I'd have to believe that you'd need the content from the Lion God expansion in order to play the Silver City campaign proper. No reason you can't just use the elements of it to make your own thing, but you'd need to go through and deconstruct it to make it work, as it was specified during the Kickstarter that any expansion which listed other expansions as requirements absolutely needs those expansions to function as intended.

The story is a bit more complex than that. When he started doing Kingdom Death, he intended to avoid generic RPG tropes. When he started up the line of 'adventurers' he meant for them to be like the pinups and scifi minis- separate lines that aren't part of the setting.
But when he saw the results, he felt like they were anything but generic, and since then has started considering whether they might have a place in the Kingdom Death setting after all. What we're seeing here seem like the result of that.

To be fair, the criticism of the Lion God is that it doesn't change your settlement fundamentally. It is a crazy fight (and a cool one) that is very difficult, but it doesn't show up until very late in the campaign, so you don't really get to farm him. Plus, he is a very difficult fight, and most players are hesitant about going up against him so late in the game (because they'd have to risk their powerful survivors in order to beat him).
When the next few waves hit, the Lion God will be better. The content will combine very well with the First Hero expansion- you can start your settlement out late enough to fight him early on (and not feel like you're risking a settlement that you built up over the past 20 sessions).
And, of course, the Silver city promises to derail the campaign and turn it into a Lion God fest.

I'd like Adam to address schedule for GC and Wave 4 directly, sooner rather than later.
I wouldn't hold my breath.
I backed KDM 1.5 because I'm confident that he would deliver eventually. But I also followed the first Kickstarter, so I don't expect great communication, and I doubt anything will ever be on time.
Because they were just reprints. The stuff in wave 1 and 2 already were massively delayed in the first KSer due to Poot's perfectionism. I hold no expectations that new stuff in this KSer will hit any dates promised but know at the same time what will eventually be delivered will be somehow beyond what was promised.
JohnHwangDD is right about the first wave being 'on schedule' as per the new schedule.
But we are waiting on Poots perfectionism here- the delays can be epic.
On the plus side, if he opens up the pledge manager again on Black Friday, I'll probably be able to add that exclusive Hyper Light Drifter that I passed on the first time around.
Let's be clear that Waves 1 & 2 were both massively larger than what had been planned, presenting an unexpected production issue tied to the unexpected scale increase. Still delivered on time.
The original KS was delayed by financial issues as much as anything else. Possibly fundamentally so (only Adam knows).
While Adam is a perfectionist, he is still a businessman at heart, and he obviously works to a schedule as best he can.
To assume delay from an unsubstantiated rumor seems unfair given his track record on the KS. In the year since GenCon 2017, there's a lot of obvious progress on Wave 4 content - work that he would not have likely prioritized over Wave 3 without a good reason.
I say he deserves the benefit of the doubt until he says something about it.
Seems like it's increasingly more certain that the Pledge Manager will get opened up for Wave 4 goodies. Wasn't a fan of the Oblivion Mosquito concept, but the model looks great and would love to pick one up; also am waiting for Satan.
Apparently Sam from BoW and Adam are distant relatives.
In the video Poots spends some time talking post KSer what's next and it's more or less other games in the world. With Labyrinth hopefully next and he spent a while doing world building before the 1.5 KSer.
He's also looking at alternative resin methods, talked brefitly about photo resin, to be able to increase production. The Whitespeaker School girl released at Gencon is this type.
So I've got a pretty dumb question for you guys....
Is this game any good? The art style looks fairly disturbing (in a good way), kinda like Dark Souls meets deranged anime in my opinion. The price of the core box, though, has put it out of reach.
That said, if the gameplay is superb, it may be worth a pickup...maybe.
I really enjoy it, the current core box (1.5) improves upon the original especially be removing a lot of the temptation to hunt only low level monster that the original had.
I'd agree the beast of war play throughs give a decent flavour of the game
now there are a couple of major things to be aware of,
your settlement is the important thing, individual survivors are not (even though you'll end up with favourites they will die). Some people just don't find this comfortable, so if this is you (or any of the people you plan to play with) beware
Finishing it is hard (especially if you don't look up tips and tricks, playing a load of 1-2 hour sessions and having to start over may hurt (although as it's your game deciding to ignore a session is a choice even if purists say otherwise)
It's a time sink, so ideal if you can play weekly or play several sessions when you do game, not so good if you can only find a couple of hours a month
There is a bunch of randomness from dice rolls, this will end up killing (or boosting) surviors, again you/your group may find it offputting
It's obviously beautiful on the tabletop, and the components are top notch; however, the game itself plays really well. The Boss AI deck was unprecedented and groundbreaking, and using cards to create the campaign was pretty novel. It's a true category killer!

If you’re just looking for anecdotes I’d say it’s a must-buy. Had two friends play a few games and they ended up buying copies for themselves.
As I kind of said, the art direction is pretty superb. I think I'll dig a bit deeper and look at some video reviews/ playthroughs. Maybe I can find a copy for a discount. It is so pricey!
Edit:
More clueless questions.
Is the game called Kingdom Death Monster or is that a different version?
Yes, the game itself is called Kingdom Death Monster (even though many just call it Kingdom Death)
Finding one cheap is going to be fairly tricky but worth keeping an eye on the store (https://shop.kingdomdeath.com/) over the next few days as they're going to put up the new gencon stuff at some point and the core box might get a sale price at that point (it was $350 at gencon)
if not they do tend to have a black Friday sale so you might pick one up cheaper then
Kingdom Death is effectively the world and core brand, with Monster being (currently) the only game. Poots has mentioned a few times other games that he'd like to do in the universe
godswildcard wrote: Is the game called Kingdom Death Monster or is that a different version?
Technically...
* "Kingdom Death" (KD) is the name of the game universe, and includes the game, the pinups, and other whatnots that may (or may not) find their way into the game (in the future).
* "Kingdom Death : Monster" (KD:M / KDM) is the name of the game itself, and the current version is "1.5" from the KS of the same name. It's the only game available at the moment.
The KD world is large, and there is plenty of room for more games (i.e. "Labyrinth") and stories, but for now, KDM is the only game you can get. In terms of sales, KS is the biggest sale, with Black Friday being the next cheapest. As it's only a few months away, you might wait and see. You

Awesome! Thanks for the info! That's helpful. What has the Black Friday deal been like in the past?
Black Friday 2017 was $325 + S&H, which is probably as cheap as 1.5 will be. BF 2018 probably won't be any cheaper, but it might be a somewhat higher. Basically, you're looking at roughly 10% saving vs $400 shipped.
For reference, KS was $290 + S&H - about 20% saved vs full price
Not gonna bother, shipping fees and customs charges just makes it not worth it, disappointing theres' never any EU warehosue options in these sales... I guess I'll just have to hope they add some of this stuff as add ons in the PM at some point.
Decided to take a boat trip up the lake with the kids and lost cell r3ception. This is like the 5th sale ive missed in recent months due to things like this. Utterly disappointing. I remember being better positioned for these things years ago when Poots used to run these at like 1am, when im still awake, but nowadays they all seem to happen around 5pm when im cooking supper, driving home from work, or running other errands I cant just drop everything for. I suppose i should just give up caring...
Same here. I only just now found out about the stuff being up for sale, and it's already gone. From now on, feth this limited run, you-only-have-five-minutes-to-get-it crap. Great models, I just wish us normal people could actually have a chance to get it.
Was finishing a math lesson and herding kids out to recess when I saw the alert.
One student commented they'd never seen me move that quickly...
Hadn't realized there's a naked woman on the SF Savior's base. Does that mean the actual model is her psychic projection or stand or something? Kinda cool.
Of course the Saviors always kinda reminded me of one of the characters in Vampire Hunter D who'd burn out his own life in order to have crazy mental powers.

It is bizarre isn't it?
"Hello Sir, I have money I wish to give you for that thing."
"I only made a small amout of the thing, it's sold out."
He talks about the resin capacity issue in one of the Gen Con interviews, his French caster is at maximum capacity producing the current quantities. It takes 6 months from the time he sends the caster the mini until he gets the final product back for sale and they are limited to a run of 500 per mini in that 6 month period. He has been experimenting with photo resin to see if they can up capacity hence the Death High White Speaker. The French caster has told Poots he’s going to retire if his services are ever no longer required.
He’s been looking for a US caster primarily to do a range of busts he thinks he’s found one and may send them one to do to see how it goes. It maybe released by years end if all works out.
Echoes of Death was limited to a 3,000 unit run 500 for Gen Con and 2,500 for the store. Seems a bit low given there are approx 20,000 backers printed stock might be an issue as the plastic can just be run off the machine.
Ultimately he’s just never going to be able to meet the demand at the current scale that he operates and scaling up may not be viable longer term.
There will be more production, but 3,000 sets for 25,000 backers is thin for a popular item, yet too much of a novelty.
The key take away is that his minimum run is 3,000 units, so if he can project that much demand, he will tool to produce in plastic. Being plastic vs resin / 3d D print, it's easy and cheap to make another 3k, 5k, 10k in the next run.
Also, I strongly suspect that Echoes and the Expansion & Rulebook restock took the slot that was previously reserved for Wave 3. His next slot is next year, which is why the GC is pushed back so far.
The other issue he mentioned re plastic production is that he’s been told by the plastics manufacturer that he must get the majority of his plastic production done this year as they have a large project booked in next year (gaming minis is only a small part of what they do) and he’ll have extremely limited access to plastic production in 2019 so he’s had to concentrate on getting a lot of plastic molding and production done this year ahead of time.
The full interview is here (if I’ve misremembered any details it’s awhile since I watched it and the above is from memory)

Meaning that, if everything doesn't go as planned, Wave 3 and Wave 4 might be pushed back a bit further than we thought.

This is a bit of BS, though. There are so many people capable of the highest quality resin casts that he could easily have a lot more done if he so wished. If one caster is at max capacity at 500 casts, he could simply use two other, and achieve the same high quality. And if the demand is that high that he cannot meet it by outside partners, he could do the casting in-house. Getting a higher quantity of casts is neither a problem nor a challenge. Poots have other motives behind his thought process, which he doesnt want to share publically.
As well as producing good quality casts at the right price his caster has to be somebody he trusts, both not to make extras to sell out of the back door, and also not to leak pictures,
(and he'd only find out things had gone wrong when it was too late. We've seen leaks from the plastics factory before now, at least these were not new concepts)
and after that they've got to be reliable, and able to keep up a steady stream of product without him being bumped by another company that suddenly needs stuff done now for a show or a bazillion casts for a KS
(yes there are contract casters, many of them very good but they do tend to get overwhelmed, delayed and otherwise cause problems by saying yes to too much work)
Casting in house is where he's probably heading to some extent (well 3d Printing anyway now the machines & materials are giving results he's happy with) but given his known control freak tendency if there was resin to supervise he'd end up doing a lot less game design as he added looking over that too
Mysterio wrote: All of that plus "Artificial Scarcity" is a thing too.
They hand printed over 2300 of the Til Death Do Us Part in photoresin, and have about the same in some of the other plastics and resins, calling it 'artificial rarity' is completely untrue- Considering it's a small team and theyre also trying to produce two dozen expansions for a Kickstarter. This isnt Games Workshop where they can meet demand with a huge staff.
The 'artificial rarity' thing always bugs me because while i'd love an 'order anything he's ever made' in resin in the store, they sell out so quickly he has to choose. This isnt like some studios who made 500 of one bust or miniature and never again for no reason, they still hand cast thousands of resins each time theres a new sale.

As above, I think Wave 2+ took the Wave 3 slot (released yesterday), and Wave 3 is taking next year's Wave 4 slot, with Wave 4 to be resheduled when ready and available.

Other way around. Adam's resin guy hand casts 1,000s and ships them. When they arrive, KD has a sale.
Yeah, I didn't write that, and Adam absolutely could make these things in higher volumes AND keep the quality BUT...I'm convinced that the 'rarity' is absolutely part of his plan and the 'mystique' of the KD line.

Two things. 1, there is already another production of of Echoes of Death and Expansions of Death 1 in the works. Don't buy them off eBay. 2. There is indeed an update brewing. But I want to get a little more headway on dev before I turn my attention back towards it. Thanks!
I enjoyed them quite a bit, but the KD plastics are probably my favorite releases out there. Not as fiddly as Malifaux, but still plenty of pieces to build up like a puzzle.
Standout for me is the Fighter, but the Death High White Speaker is up there too. I only wish she'd been a plastic release, despite the quality of the photoresin cast.
My wife has been wanting to do a youtube channel and has been making me record videos of all the crap I purchase and build, so that's been sucking up a ton of my free time.

The 25,000 also isn't counting the who know how many non-backers are trying to pick them up. I've yet to back one of his KS's, due either to lack of knowing it's happening, or not having the funds on hand while the event is going. I love using them for D&D figs though.
Wave 3 got pushed back to 2019, as Adam wasn't ready to produce before his factory had to start another project. Hence, Echoes of Death and Wave 2 reprints to make the best of the slot he had.
I'm assuming production of Wave 3 doesn't start until 1H 2019, for delivery Q3 at the earliest. Wave 4 would be at least 6 months after that, unless Wave 3 is so delayed, and Wave 4 is so far along that he combines the two for a mega-Wave.
Scissor Knight
Death High Ringtail Vixen

Swordhunter Variant

(sorry no pics I can't seem to copy anything today)
Pretty much all sold out already. Within like 30 mins of the email being sent out... really feel like they are in many ways shooting themselves in the foot with sales like this where the stock is so absurdly low vs demand.
The whole (tits/ass + monsters + artificial scarcity = profit) formula, along with the shipping, customs and handling fees has worn me down.
I'll still play Monster with friends when we have the chance, and will no doubt pick up some of the nicer figures from cheaper sources, but I no longer buy direct.
Mysterio wrote: I made the decision a while back to stick to the 'no game content, no purchase' rule when it comes to KD stuff.
I've been mostly successful in sticking to it too.
This is most of what I buy from him no days but I occasionally add non-game stuff in. I like the Death High stuff and want to support the photo resin experiment as if it works out it will really help with production limits.

They're 3d printing some stuff now? I don't know how I missed that announcement. Did they buy a printer, or are they going through a 3rd party?

Not sure but I assume it's outsourced production as unless he's got a 30k printer those print jobs will take 15-20 hours each at a minimum. It was in a BoW interview video with Poots at Gencon. He's trying out the material/process with the Death High line to see how the reception to it is.
He's got his own huge industrial 3d printer or printers (and had to get the floor of their HQ reinforced to get it in if I remember right from the gencon interiews last year) when he talked about doing the fancy table corner things on it
and with 'Till Death' initial release we were getting regular re-stocks of 25 every day or so which felt very much like the were a days worth of production hot off the machine

The last few miniatures I've gotten from Kingdom Death have all been 3d Prints. It looks like their limited resin runs are 3d printed vs casting, which is smart considering it is much less labor intensive. For it to work they would most likely have a one or multiple printers in-house which would allow them to print on demand and not have to stock. From the details of the miniature, the finish and the supports left on them, it looks like a DLP printer. It could be an MSLA (Mask SLA uses LCD instead of DLP projector) but doesn't appear to be SLA. With a DLP/MSLA they can do multiple prints within 1-3 hours depending on the orientation. For example, Hysterical Games uses a Solus which is only about $3400, they won't need 30K to get the quality. The resin doesn't look some I've seen, they call it photo-resin which isn't a term I'm familiar with though. I've heard that DLP LED projectors to refer to photo-polymerize liquid resin as the resin that works with them, but never really heard of anyone particularly calling it photoresin which is how they label it on their website.
Nevermind looks like someone mentioned he got large commercial based models... it definitely isn't EnvisionTEC so be interested to know which of the companies he went with. I'd definitely like to compare prices with the ones we use.
Dark Severance wrote: it definitely isn't EnvisionTEC so be interested to know which of the companies he went with. I'd definitely like to compare prices with the ones we use.
It isn't an EnvisionTEC? The material looks a lot like RC90 and the support structures on the early copies of TDDUP looked like the pattern their slice software makes.
Honestly swapping out the lions head to some kinda daemon thing would be pretty cool. or you could do some kinda amazonian thing with giant people running around in like AOS.
"Photoresin" is a marketing/branding term, likely as the process is more akin to poured resin than mass production HIPS plastic. I would not read it as a technical term that specifies process or material.
JohnHwangDD wrote: "Photoresin" is a marketing/branding term, likely as the process is more akin to poured resin than mass production HIPS plastic. I would not read it as a technical term that specifies process or material.
Photoresins are single liquids that catalyze with UV exposure, so it is fairly different from most other resins that people are familiar with that are typically a part A and B that are mixed in ratio.
They're probably just using "photo resin" because their printer manufacturer or resin supplier calls it that. "Photo" in this case just meaning light, since all of these resins are cured via UV exposure.
EDIT: Ninja'ed! I'm interested in hearing people's experience with these, since it's definitely the future of the hobby for things with runs that can't justify HIPS production.
BaconSlayer wrote: It isn't an EnvisionTEC? The material looks a lot like RC90 and the support structures on the early copies of TDDUP looked like the pattern their slice software makes.
Originally the pictures do make it seem like RC90 (that is what I use mostly other than HTMV140). When I received the models I have, it does not appear to be the same. It is a much darker shade, browner and less pinkish hue of the RC90. I am not at home to take a picture to compare but this the RC90 color. Looking at them with a jewelers loupe to analyze the layer lines, it is on par but slightly different than the P4 and Vida. I'll have to take a picture with them side by side when I get home.
One of our RC90 Prints.
Spoiler:
It is possible they could be using something else or mixing their own but EnvisionTEC doesn't call their resin photo-resin, they refer to it as UV Curable and refer to the properties that it simulates like ceramic-like, plastic or HIPS equivalent. I guess someone could say it is photosensitive but I try to refer to the actual resin brans like RC Series, ABS Hi-Impact, ABS Flex, E-Rigid but that could just be me. They could be altering the pigment because I've been asked to change colors and when I've been talking with my EnvisionTEC contact about customizing colors for resins, they have been reluctant and instead try to have me move to different versions that already are using those pigments.
JohnHwangDD wrote: "Photoresin" is a marketing/branding term, likely as the process is more akin to poured resin than mass production HIPS plastic. I would not read it as a technical term that specifies process or material.
That is the thing, you can't find the marketing reference, at least I can't or my google-fu sucks (which is possible). Most companies simply refer to the resin as UV curable. There are a few that call it photo-curable and photo-polymerize resin but that is more in reference to the process that it utilizes to cure the resin. Instead of using an SLA laser to cure the resin, it uses a photo/lcd/led source to cure it. For example, my EnvisionTEC when it slices a model creates hundreds of PNG images that it uses to display layer at a time, curing a layer at a time. In essence, using a photo in which the process refers to the light. But there are few that call that processor refers to it as a photo-polymerize or would call the resin photo-resin.
I did reach out to see if I could find the brand of 3d printers and resin they use. I'm always looking, comparing to ensure we keep utilize the best. And different printers are better for certain things than others so having a good selection is always good.
Poots could have just used the term Photoresin as a generic since a lot of people will associate it with 3d printing and if they don't understand the word resin so he didn't have to have a long explanation for however many interviews he did at Gencon.
ecurtz wrote: They're probably just using "photo resin" because their printer manufacturer or resin supplier calls it that. "Photo" in this case just meaning light, since all of these resins are cured via UV exposure.
That is one reason I'm trying to find out what brand resin they use. Not all UV curable or resins for that matter are equal. I have the stats for various resins from Solus Proto-Resin, Formlabs various resins, and EvisionTECs (Shore D Hardness, Tensile Strenght, Elongation, Flexurial Strength, etc). I've been creating and running a spreadsheet with their specs to compare with HIPS and PVC plastic vs. In some cases, it is better and other cases it isn't but that also depends on the resins, they are close but not quite there without sacrificing a few things. Stronger resins mean fewer details while more detail and accurate resins are about equivalent to castable. But with good SLA/DLP printers one can barely notice a difference between a 100um, 50um, and 25um print unless they are using a jewelers loupe. Some lower-end printers you can tell the difference between 100um and 50um visibly but that vanishes after priming.

Yes I reached out via Facebook and their website. I may try Kickstarter if I don't hear anything back in a couple weeks.
Edit: Guess I'll try Kickstarter since the response from my email was, "
"Thank you for the email. Unfortunately I'm not authorized to answer these questions about our inner workings. Adam is pretty tight lipped about that. I'm sorry My hands are tied on this."
Hello everyone. I apologize that there hasn't been any official update for quite some time. This is 100% my fault. A combination of waiting for critical parts of the project to finish and dealing with some personal family affairs (which happens to us all, unfortunately). None of this is an excuse, and I wouldn't come to the comments without something decisive to share.
The next big update will be Black Friday.
Q: Is the Plastic Game Board shipping in 2018 or was that pushed back also? I know it was its own separate thing and not part of any of the official waves. Any word on that?
A: I plan on resuming work on the game board soon! We learned a ton working on the black knight demo board that we took to gencon. And I've also picked up just about every other game board type thing on the market for research. I am looking forward to giving it my all and am hoping to have a 3D printed prototype by the end of the year.
There will be a halloween sale and there will most certainly be a sale on Black Friday.
Q: Last time you mentioned the Card pack, you were supposed to have it by february 2018, is it still in the works ?
A: We have the card pack for all the reprinted White Box material! Im hoping to organize that before our next sale. (need to ship boxes to respective warehouses etc).
Q: Have you yet decided if you are going to open up the backerkit to allow more addons for backers for wave 4? Or even wave 3, if it is going to be delayed until next year?
A: I am currently unsure if we will open Backerkit again or not. I think I should at the very least, reach out to them and see what is and isn't possible.
Pleased to hear the card pack will be a go, I've probably got about half the content, but being able to get the rest mini free (and thus having extra budget to spend on other minis) is going to be good
Q: Will there be an errata pack made for the expansions that clarifies and replaces cards with incorrect names?
Will the FAQ on the website be updated with all of the questions that have come up in 1.5?
A: The Errata for the expansions are all going into the Campaigns of Death book / card set, it sorta "updates" all the current expansions to be more in line with the 1.5 version of the core game. I am currently unsure if we will offer those cards outside of that. I think there are some specific cards I promised would be fixed in sort of a clarification pack, I need to double check as we are trying very hard not to have to many SKU's that just make it difficult for us and you guys to understand what is where.
I did give an EXTREMELY small amount of info. I'd say the two most important things to note are, we can expect a big update on Black Friday, with all the official trimmings, and as much show and tell as humanly possible. Also, that I recognized and will be course correcting my mistake of failing to communicate here more often. While I will always gingerly approach kickstarter updates, I should not have missed the post gencon update. As it was an easy one to make and would have kept everyone in the loop. Of course myself and the team were very busy, but that isn't an excuse. We are here to make it happen.
Yeah... I found that really easy to pass on. The preacher was a nice model, though out of theme, and I was kind of tempted to pick up the TK I'd skipped, but then I remembered that I skipped it b/c it was a pricey single without rules for implementing its material.
I don't even look anymore. Between the two KS's it would be the acme of foolishness to add to the pile of unpainted KD stuff. Best to just avoid the temptation.
Normally, I wouldn't self-promote in a news thread, but there's really not a general KD thread, and as a tie-in this fits a little closer to a thread about stuff related to the game that's coming out...
I designed this shirt for my group, but thought that others might enjoy a KD shirt that was subtler than a branded logo. (Printed with Redbubble; also, some notes and whatnot on my blog)
I would have also posted just the graphic element, too, but it was giving dakka's image processor fits, so here's the stock shirt demo image.
Many items available down to half price (50% savings)!
I ended up getting:
* Percival

Based on the full restock of ALL expansions and other plastics, along with Echoes, etc., it looks like my earlier guess was correct:

If you had wanted any expansions and were on the fence, NOW is the time to buy!
Got Echoes and some of the plastic pin-ups (for the game related cards: Can't play KDM without the thongs!).
Happy to get everything through the UK store this time. Shipping is cheaper and no customs. UK is still in EU as far as customs go? Or has it already severed ties? Anyway, cheaper shipping will cover the customs if I have to pay them.
The KDM update Poots posted? Wowzer! Happy to be at Frogdog level...

UK is still in until March 2019 whatever happens so no issues there. Probably pick up the Ninja from the UK store at half price plus shipping it’s easier to justify the cost this year.
Wow, very big update posted, took several minutes just to skim through the pictures, much less read anything. Also got an email that the pledge manager reopened. Hope it stays open through next weekend when I get paid.

The news on CoD updating all the current expansions finally tipped me over the edge on the Lonely Tree, it's the only expansion I didn't have. Also decided to pick up Percival and Fade, for the extra hunt event variation.
I just completed my first expansions with the Tree, too. Mysterio, it's a gamble since it's well-known to be a crappy expansion, and it's getting revised.
On the Slenderman, I much prefer it to the King's Man, regarding pretty much all of its mechanics. The theme isn't amazing, but the execution is head and shoulders above that throwaway fight.
