Not quite! I think next it's going to be blue for the screens etc before start to block in more shades of grey on the buildings. Then I can start to move on to planning out other lights before moving onto the osl. I'm also going to try to avoid using any metals whatsoever - not right for aesthetic, be it wars or trek. Need also to streak the buildings with muck etc and, if I have time, make up the cards and templates etc. If I can get that done before deadline, I can think about having the ship sorted to go with it, but that's really just a wee extra.
now that looks already playable... even if i have read you two´s dialogue^^
and i think you need to do some hazard stripes here and there to the flight decks and so on... and maybe add some lights here and there too...

Well I wondered about that but it's not in keeping with either the Trek or Wars aesthetic. Still, there's rivets
I feel it could just just a hint of a bright color. Something like green/red flight path markers, or a warning strobe. Just something to help break up the subdued tones. I know it’s supposed to be a gritty rock base, but that’s no reason not to have a little pizzaz somewhere.
What an awesome progression. That's incredible. I agree with the other comments that maybe a slight touch of other colour might help, but if it doesn't take your fancy, I think that's pretty done. If you wanted to darken it again, is it worth using a wash. I think it looks good as it is though.
it was awesome when last i checked.... and i think the fitting term now is beautiful... itdoes look like a clone wars base... i like the brighter look to...er...everything... i have to say here is a whole new art in bright painting... if you add washes galore... it turns dark and subdued all on itself... but to make it look bright and not like a stupid kids toy... that is something that calls for envy and respect...
i agree also... some red or green or even yellow details would be good...
Gitsplitta wrote:Cool, it's like light is seeping out from inside the asteroid.

OK, OK, Good note, good note taken on board. I do like my wars grubby but trek shiny - need to find a middle ground.

Automatically Appended Next Post: Right gang. I've taken on board your recommendations, hope you like the results! Everything's had various washes (even got some coffee based staining in there, just for Magos ), more colour and osl. Hopefully by using coloured washes and shades (sepia, flesh, camoshade, earthshade, oil, and Italian coffee) there's a bit more depth and variety.
Hangar now has lights, both at the edges to guide ships in and a series if warning lights. Really glad to have got a functional use of sprue in too!
And with a HWK-290 for scale, being the most generically Sci fi ship at that scale.
I will try to get the shuttle done also, now that I have time assuming I get the cards etc done for this, that is.
I asked eldest what his favourite bit was. He said the escape pods :
Chuffed to bits that when asked why (bear in mind I hadn't told him what they were supposed to be) he said, "Because they look like the ones in A New Hope." Good lad the old man has taught you well...
I have so much 40k stuff still that I had to use some somewhere.
Every base has to have a readily accessible exhaust port to stick a proton torpedo up right?
I really like the colours on this side
I think as well you can really tell that the towers were printer cartridges here, despite accessorising. Also, remembered to drill the barrels!
It's the overhead where the colours become most apparent, I think :
Lots of light going on here, slightly concerned there's too much. Also, now I have to get 6 best angles to show all the detailing - eg inside the airlock - and get pics on black cloth.
I should add, tangentially, that it still smells of dough
So one last round of C&C folks? thanks for all your continuing support,
Graven
Love the look of it , I get the feel for what it's all meant to be. Great use of the deadzone pieces, they really work well for the silos and other building parts, even at a different scale. Needs a video intro like all the Star Wars movies .
looks stunning mate!
i hazard even to call it finished...
my favorite shot by the way is the fifth pic you sowed... the one with these red balls glowing there... dunno what bits it where... but that part now looks very good and convincing...in a star wars universe way...and i have to confess when pre primer times this looked not very meaningful to me... talk about a change of perspective once paint hits a model...!
and... you know its printer cartridges but if you don´t know... i doubt if they would be recognized...
The balance of subtle colour points and the asteroid colouring are well chosen. The asteroid looks uniform in that it's all the same bit of rock, but with the realistic seams of odd imperfection of the ore. The lights on the hanger enhanced that greatly. Well done. A big success

Thanks matey! I am liking to use of parts out of scale, it's fun and was one ofbthe key things the original wars modellers did - hopefully a fitting homage.

Thanks for all your support in this, particularly as a fellow competitor! (you too Viktor, obviously)! Been a really inspiring contest.
OK. Last question: for background, plain black, asteroid field or starfield?
At first I was skeptical, but now I am sold. That looks great! By any chance are those gun turrets from a toy battleship? Because I believe I own the same one!
Glad to be of any support. I have zero chance of winning, so I don't really view this as competition . Starfield or Hubble telescope photograph of a nebula if you can get it big enough (trek style )
Ladies and gentlemen...... I give you.... a serious contended for the title!!! Some seriously awesome painting going on there! Really great from start to finish!
Stormwall wrote:That is beautiful. Especially the blued door. I think you may win this.

Well thank ye kindly. I like the door, I'm not 100% it works but it's very Wars/Trek (even more Wars, I think).
TP^DC Deputy Manager wrote:Glad to be of any support. I have zero chance of winning, so I don't really view this as competition . Starfield or Hubble telescope photograph of a nebula if you can get it big enough (trek style )
Oh, don't approach it with that attitude. I've got nowhere with stuff I've been delighted with, and done far better with something that I was less than pleased with. It all comes out in the wash. Hubble, eh? like that.
MagosBiff90 wrote:Ladies and gentlemen...... I give you.... a serious contended for the title!!! Some seriously awesome painting going on there! Really great from start to finish!
You are very kind indeed mate. Your pile of stuff is excellent and ultra-real, I love it. But thank you, truly (ps - will try to post stuff out Weds).
Solar_lion wrote:WOW !.. way to make this all come together . looks so cool. now you need a some good photos with a star background.
Cheers bud. I do indeed! I tried to get some pics but really not happy with them, wiped them all in a fit of pique. Instead, decided to work on this bad boy, for your viewing pleasure:
Nice to do some wet blending as I've not really had a chance to do much of that on the base. There's no drybrushing or inking/washing on this yet.
Whoosh!
Landing thrusters...
And ready for unloading.
As a smuggler's skiff, or a small escort vessel, I'm delighted with this. I think I'll have it as a counts-as Hwk-290 rather than Y-wing - too big really for a Y, whereas dimensions are very close to the Hwk - but still, very pleased with it indeed.
On a side note (or rather back round), should I perhaps put the asteroid base in an asteroid field - background here, not making more asteroids? Would that not make more sense?
Anyway, I must thank you all for your continuing support. All of this has been done against a background of considerable discomfort and as a sort of self-imposed forced return to P&M because I'm sick of moping. I can see many flaws in the work but I'm pleased with where I'm heading back too.
actually i like the asteroid field idea the bases i know on asteroids where always in a cluster... so that makes perfect sense...
as for the HKW will you be adding a bit of white or is the greenish yellow hue intended?... i bet the later...i think the ship looks great as is... especially the cockpit... there you did artful
Automatically Appended Next Post: sorry for doublepost...???
Cheers bud. The colour is as planned - Hwk scheme in game is brown, but it's a smuggler ship, and those are often in muted tones (Scum ships like the SCK, the hound's tooth) as are many cargo, mercenary and merchant ships in trek verse. I also thought the greenish tones were a nice contrast to the base.
Automatically Appended Next Post: In fact I might call it a SKF very happy with the cockpit, I had considered a high gloss paint (which is what the official slave 1 etc get) but I like the "light" effect glad you do too!
Well it's not finished yet and, skiff Actually the D-9 light freighter has never been shown but is supposed to be comparable to the Hwk. Also, it amuses me cos it would work for anyone (mercenaries) AND I'm statting this thing with Ds9's stats from trek wing so that fits beautifully

Hey folks,
First up, a wee batrep for you. My mate who's relocated down south is back up for a week to sort out junk so we decided to have a massive trek battle - borg cube and mirror universe vs Fed & ds9 vs romulan and cardassian (the last being me).
Whilst we had a good time, I wouldn't say the game was fun. Wizkids power creep and ham fisted attempts to create balance make gw look reasonable. 2 Squadrons of cardassian fighters should not be able to take down the biggest ship in the game in one turn without breaking a sweat. So yeah, reminded why I don't play that game anymore.
Still, X-Wing!
Spoiler:
So here are my entry pics.
The 2 identical components:
Other components include an ice-cream tub, a plastic wine glass, sprue, playdoh, papier-mache made from political pamplets and assorted election newspapers, bottle tops, bits of lego, a deadzone sprue, back to front gw missile launchers and assorted junk.
And what's life without a spot of fluff?
Kalend Thora eased back on the jump engines and pulled the Starknife out of hyperdrive. She looked down, as if her red eyes could see through the deck plates into the tiny packets of glitterstim that were stowed beneath. She couldn’t help but smile. Why risk bulk cargo when something so tiny had such a huge payoff? Even after her Vigo had taken his cut, she’d have more than enough to keep her old D-9 running like a rabid wamp-rat in heat and more to spare.
As the Folly lazed into view, she couldn’t help but marvel at the brutal elegance of the facility. You can keep your gas mines, your spacer stations and dust ports – give me solid rock any day. And this was exactly the kind of… independent operation that kept her pockets fat and her record clean.
2 hours. 2 hours at station keeping. I have a bad feeling about this. “Central, what’s your status?” she broadcast for what must have been at least the twelfth time. R3-2A chirruped at least as impatiently. “Yeah, I know Arty, let’s take a look around.”
The station’s turrets lazily tracked her. Well, at least we know something’s working in there. No escape pods launched, no sign of damage. A beep, a whistle. “Yeah, the lights are on, just not sure who’s home little fella.” She was starting to get twitchy.
Landing lights were on from the cargo bay on the surface – drop ship maybe? That’s not the Empire’s style.
Hutts, perhaps, wanting a piece of the action? That’d be a bloody mess - the Black Sun was happy for Erith to run his place his way, but they wouldn’t want another operation muscling in on the action. Mind you, a mess this far out on the Rim might bring them to Tarkin’s attention, and no-one wanted that. Clean and quiet – a coup then? An inside job. She grimaced, a sour expression on her lipless green countenance.
The ship lazed its way round the station; her R3 unit let out what could only have been a chuckle. “I know, I don’t know why the insist on making exhaust ports so accessible either. Serve them right if someone stuck a proton bomb up it.”
Generators are still running fine. Feels like a trap. “Arty, little buddy, I think we’re just gonna have to chalk this one up to bad timing. Looks like they don’t want us to come a-knocking. We can make Seler in 18 hours.” She moved to bank the ship away, getting an angry series of clicks for her trouble. “Yes, I know you were looking forward to that oil bath. Wouldn’t mind a bath myself, still trying to get half of Kessel out from my fingernails, never mind that the scrubbers are so shot the whole ship tastes of spice.” Silence. “Fine, be like that you big baby.” She punch the co-ordinates into the drive computer, almost too annoyed to ignore the nagging in the back of her head. Almost.
The comms burst into life, startling Kalend and making her reach instinctively to eject her precious load. “Thora you old lizard – that you out there circling my station like a hungry gundark?” Erith’s tones. Jokey, but forced. She could hear – not wariness, exactly, but something different. Still, keep smiling, keep talking – and keep running those numbers. “It’s me you two-cred son of a Jawa. Why the hold up? Been scrimping on the power convertors again?” A low hum from R3 let her know that one flick and they would be the other side of the light barrier. “Let’s just say I’ve decided to put this place to good use. Seems to be there’s a lot to be said for getting shot of the Empire and its cronies – better for business, y’know?”So he’s gone over to the Rebellion, has he? This time, the smile in her voice was genuine, “Well then, if it’s good for business, you’d better let me in then, hadn’t you?” And in response, the bay doors opened, welcomingly. Now that’s information that will fetch a hefty price. R3 peeped a question, and she flicked off her open comms to reply. “You bet we’re going in there, Arty. Things just got interesting.”
And of course, they're no use unless you can use them in game:
Spoiler:

Completely understand mate, love you stuff too. Cards were fun to do: the base is just DS9's stats and ability redone for X-Wing, the D-9 just a Y-Wing (better fit, it in the end) with a pilot that happens to stack well with the R3 unit (which is my favourite astromech in the game).

Cheers Navigating the cards, for the uninitiated:
The base always acts last (the orange 0), has 5 weapons (2 turrets, 3 torpedo launchers) with 360 arc (the red in an arrowed circle), can't evade (green), has 8 hull (yellow, can withstand a lot punishment even when it's lost shields) and 8 shields (blue, can shrug of most things). Normally when you fire ordinance they discard - this doesn't (same as Ds9). It can be used by the Scum and Villany faction as well as rebels. It can focus (better chance of hitting) or target lock (can fire torpedoes and missiles). It can have one secondary turret weapon, 2 different kinds of missile, 2 different kinds of torpedo, and 2 additional crew members. Oh, and it costs about the same as a large ship (Falcon, Slave 1 etc) or indeed as DS9 - it could just as easily be used as a non-aligned facility (a la Empok Nor) in Trek wing.
Kalend is a super-good pilot - skill 8, on a scale of 1-10 - and Y-wings are tough but not ultra-maneuverable. She's a crack shot when it comes to getting out of tight spots - hence the reroll ability - and can also pack an astromech. This particular version is "Horton Salm", Grey Leader, just translated to this. If there's time I'll make a Scum version of her (there are, for example, both Imperial and Scum version of Boba Fett) as Scum also get Y-wings, and a Title: Starknife card which will work the same was a Y-Wing only title.

Miss Dee wrote:I would of given it more than 8 hull
I would've too, but 8 is the same as DS9, as well as the giant ships (the rebel transport, Tantive IV and the imperial Crusader) - only the Decimator, which is designed to ram other ships, has more. Also, 8 shields make it extremely difficult to take out.

Well, no, but there's references in the books to imperial pilots with ten confirmed kills permitted a red stripe across their wings. I think her armour is explained in a later episode; Sabine's a great character, although sadly many Bothans will die...
I wanted it to be even grubbier than the other 2 because Wedge was the only pilot to successfully fly in both trench runs, so really wanted to am up the Veteran feel. Also, I'm a moron: I gave Red 2 3 stripes so fixed that while edging up the white a bit more.
Better now. Have discovered I have a Slave 1 coming my way as part of birthday-ness. Expect some scummy goodness
lol... rogue two with three stripes rogue sponsored by ADIDAS?
and... of course... many bothans need to die... seems they´re born to die... one of the sentences that gets aired the most... after..."i´ve got a bad feeling about it...!"

Oh silly man and yeah, but at least now we'll know how come
Anyone, a jolly father's day which started with pancakes, bacon and syrup (omnomnomnomnom) and is ending in Hobgoblin Gold Scored a mighty Vader-head cushion and vader/stormtrooper pens (cos I am their father) as well as a limited edition bottle of beer, Shepherd Neame's 1215 ale. At 8%, brewed to a 13th C recipe, and a 750 ml bottle, I'll be sharing that one with my dad, I think, especially as he introduced me to the joys of our local brewer back home when I were a lad (although he actually started me with Harvey's best, the rival mob from across county lines shocking, I know - still his preference, quisling that he is).
Finished up the building of giant lego star wars project with the boy:
Oh, and this:
Early WIP, absolutely filthy, but more importantly seem to have figured out the rather swish settings on my camera phone
the big question is... is this the slave one of jango or boba?.. depending on yoour choice the colour is either green or blue...but you know that, eh?^^ cause you´re their father^^... oh how i love these sentences... being a father of two sons this slips my lips so often... and i get a hearty smile from then knowing the context of the joke fully well^^

Boba's, will be. I make star wars jokes along those lines to my kids all the freaking time! Phantom is real one, ghost we downloaded the instructions and built from our collection adapting where we had to - get en kitbashing early! Sabine's in the speeder set iirc. We have her. Certainly.
Sorry about your dad mate. My dad doesn't drink much - but for a special occasion I hope he's up for it.
Well now,
What a day! Feeling very spoilt with a mighty geek haul. Kids chose me a B-Wing and a Z-95. Wife got me a Batman graphic novel, much MUCH beer, coffee maker, new Muse cd, a cool lunch bag and tubs (sad how exciting that is to me!) and a lotr T-shirt.
Oh, and a very lovely cake
This on top of some cool stuff from my mates: William Shakespeare's Star wars (Verily, a new hope) Millennium Falcon, Batman mini game rules (anyone tried this?) and Cupcakes, along with a darth Vader poncho
I started this unified version of my blog just over 5 years ago, just after kid 2 was born as running 4 blogs was unwieldy and unworkable.
5 years ago today, we were told he needed emergency open heart surgery the next day.
Staggering and unreal to think that this tiny tank is now about to start school with nothing worse than a cool scar (his "dinosaur bite") to show for it.
So, in many ways, feeling blessed.
Last thing: the public vote for the current LoER contest is up over here :
well... you loose in hair , grow in wrinkles....as you generally proceed in the flow of the years...happy birthday ol grunt
looking back i sometimes have to shiver too... so much has happened in the last years... but since we all are able to live and tell the tale... seeing your kid, no one would imagine such hardships indeed! by the way.... i have the slight feeling he reminds me of someone...maybe someone famous even... something aboout his smile....
funny thing is, my kids are already expert level in kitbashing... recently they tore apart a quinjet and some other bitz here and their and built their own interpretation of the ghost... i can take a pic... they still don´t know they´ll get that kit tomorrow...
also... William Shakespeare´s star wars? WTF??? but then again i read Jane Austin´s pride and prejudice and zombies...
tell me wha you think about the muse CD... i´ve heard a lot about the new album... they try to go back to the rocky roots... hmmm...torn on that one^^

Thanks buddy!
Life throws strange things at us. We endure The boy looks familiar huh? I wonder why. How strange.
The ghost looks like it would be a heck of a fun build in "reality". The creativity of lego kids never ceases to amaze me. I did try to pick up the minifigs on Ebay but £10 a time I <3 the new Muse album. It's at once both more metal and more electronica than previous. It's outstanding, with a couple of instant classic tracks on it (Psycho and Reapers).
The shakespearean translation of Star Wars is excellent, especially R2's soliloquys. Much better than P&P&Z (although I actually enjoyed Sense & Sensibility & Sea Monsters rather more).
Gitsplitta wrote:Have a wonderful day graven! You certainly did get a fantastic haul!
I did and I realise I missed out a couple of things - Rebel Aces, the graphic of DMZ - very lucky chap indeed.

Happy Birthday, Graven.
Good to hear that the Muse album is good, it's on my list.
Which Batman GN did you get?
Much beer is good.
Fnar I am a massive Muse fan, and was a bit wary, but I am delighted by how good it is. The Black Mirror, one of the few Snyder's I've not read. Wife usually gets me Morrison, nice surprise  Also got DMZ from another chum at work

Muse are one of the few many that I collect every album for. Although due to ongoing monetary flow issues, I've not been able to keep up and the list is growing. I've liked pretty much all of their rock, electronic and classical style tunes. But then I like all three of those genres anyway.

Speaking of which, no p&m updates for a few days - on me hols, couple of days in legoland then a week with my folks
Good times My holiday reading is the Batman miniature rules though...
we finished today the ghost kit and the jay lego ninjago walker... i have to say i love lego for it´s walkers.... enjoy lego land...we always leave totally smashed...
Well legoland was indeed smashed! Great fun, now chilling (well, boiling, actually ) at my folks' and catching up with family.
Also, thrilled to bloody bits to have won the League contest! Thanks my friends for your constant support and advice.
mate, my hat is off to you! the story even... you certainly raised the bar...!!! (it was my favourte entr by the way too...tho stating this now almost sounds as an antempt to bribery^^ )
Right so had a lovely couple of days at legoland, and a great week sizzling in the heat at my folks'. Now I'm back, means got to get the most out of my remaining 5 weeks:
Haven't done the underside yet. Pretty happy with the chipping and weathering, wonder if it needs more?
Also, debating a crazy repaint. Well, I'm going to do one, just not sure whether to do a stealth e wing from lego star wars or the yellow tie fighter from Rebels. Thoughts?
Whilst on my holidays, came across two interesting things.
One, letters from my navy commander uncle about the first meeting of 3 subs under the Arctic from the 80s.
Also, we went on a 1/3 scale train on the south coast - very cool, great model railway layouts too - but they had there one that been appropriated by the military in the 40s and used to patrol the coast :
Very cool

Cheers mate. I wonder if the grill across the lozenge shaped engine should be more red, kinda inverse glow? Not sure.
I was trying to make a vote appear, not sure how, however.
So, next up:
B-Wing or Z-95 Headhunter? (Don't worry, I haven't forgotten about the yellow TIE) Any preference team?
I was going to add a certain YT-1300 in there, but I'm not ready to start that yet.
I should add, tangentially, that I love the fact that I got Slave 1 for my 7th birthday, and now I've got it again for my 37th
Knightley wrote: I've always been a fan of the B-Wing, so that gets my vote for sure!
Oh well, as you're the only one
Had a couple of great wee games yesterday. Tried out the Falcon - refused to build the standard/meta build (Fat Han, as it is known) - and got annihilated. It's surprisingly fragile.
So then tried another idea, using a lovely B-Wing and filling the Falcon with Wookies (Chewbacca and a gunner).
Henceforth, this shall be known as WOOKIE RAGE! Not crazy about the big ships tbh, but good learning curve. The B-Wing is brutal and did lots of nifty tricks with the crew.
Anyway, speaking of B-Wings, that's what I'm on to next (Pics are stock paintjobs, rather than my repaints, btw). But I have a problem with B-Wings - the flight stand:
Not only does it look odd, any chance of OSL is basically nixed because of its location. Also, when I think B-Wing, I think of them as being horizontal, not vertical (mostly).
So let's start getting by rid of the peg:
Of course, there's added complexity: B-Wing cockpits always stay level on the x-axis. Hmm.
But, I noticed a tiny gap behind the cockpit - hey presto!
Cockpit popped off really easily. A bit of trimming on the peg and...
And side-by-side:
And with a flight stand:
Much happier! What do you reckon? And now, what do I do with the unmodified one - thoughts?
much, much better! i too picture the B-wing rather horizontal than upright... or slightly cocked even...
i try to follow your pictures with the added text... but it seems they doesn´t match???... i see what you did and understand the text... but there seems to be some kind of weird mix...
also... for me the B-wing is comparable with the tie defender... both are hopelessly OOT assault crafts... kinda like small death stars... i played most of the games of the x-wing to tie fighter series... and once you got to these ships ...winning missions was inevitable... (and yep... i am ancient, and played even the games on my friends 486er...)
Thanks mate. Think I've fixed the pics. I too am of the -86 generation! Hence my B wing love. So should I move the other one? Or reposition its peg somehow, leaving it vertical?
i think for this fighter that "stance" is nice! next one i think should be tilted slightly differently...these are the sole models think where the stance has such a striking effect...tho...of course an x-wing or a tie fighter would benefit too from a tad of tilting...
Tilting other ships, that's another matter... Although my Falcon likes to lean like a drunk
well... Han is a man of the world...worlds... and i think the empire is not so much interested to see the rule don´t drink and drive followed thoroughly...they have far better ways to work their tyranny^^
Yup, although the paint should help. These various things that make folk not think my minis are theirs (a real problem with prepaints).
One of the other guys last night had LED'd his Slave 1 that was pretty.
Also, one of the TOs was smitten with my base and bought it off me *does snoopy happy dance* delighted and acquired a lovely set of acrylic rulers, templates and tokens (the range Ruler even says pew pew pew on it ) in exchange (ie sold for £40) - not only that, but got another one definite and one maybe commission off the back of it. Given that this is junk modelling for profit I couldn't be happier with that result on top of winning the LOER contest
Speaking of which (good link eh?) there's still loads of time to get involved! Click the link in my sig for more details!
I like the mods on the B-wings. I too recall the old days of X-Wing on the -86 systems, and how crazy powerful those things were. Even at the time though, I never understood why the cockpit spun. I remember trying to take advantage of it in game, but it never seemed to matter.
Still, they look a LOT better at an angle or horizontal than vertical. Good call.
Knightley wrote:Loving the B-wing! I also agree that the B-wing isn't vertical, and should be horizontal, it looks weird the other way around.
Thanks mate, although still struggle to see the B in the B-wing!

The games never quite got it right. It seems odd to me though because ultimately, there is no up/down in space. And cheers! Repainting has begun...
Seem to have lost my camera. This sucks :( I should probably set up a proper rig for using my phone camera, I guess. Still, in the meantime, hope you can make do with this:
Always "fun" to make white grubby!
So with my 2 Bs done, on to my 2nd A-wing and Z95 next, then the Falcon.
Slightly alarmed at the lack of momentum that the LOER contest seems to have. Do swing by (link in my sig!) and check it out!
Don't worry about the contest, it'll pick up. There's 10 weeks (well probably 9 now) to go and I had people enter after week 8... they didn't finish, but you know what I mean.
You have got the summer shift, so with people's holidays etc. it may be patchy.
I keep forgetting to plug it when I've updated recently... I'll go do that now.
B wings are ace , I did a similar job on one of mine a while back and then did the obligatory shark teeth on another, it helps out tremendously when you do a B list.

Hehehe like the teeth idea I'm trying to work out if a 3B list is viable actually.
Meanwhile, two very different wips from the 2 ends of the Rebellion. Z95 headhunter, forerunner to the x wing. An old ship, so I reckon it should be absolutely filthy :
And the refit of the a wing, the Rebellion's most advanced ship. Not sure about the ultra shiny scheme (very close to the original).
I don't know, there's a lot of old muscle cars driving around here in the states that are nice and shiney, like they just rolled off the assembly line. If I were a fighter pilot I'd be making sure my ride was in top notch shape. What good is the rebellion if your fighter breaks down and is on the shoulder of the space lane until AAA comes out to tow you away .
Of course I drive a 14 year old SUV which gets washed only when it rains so I guess the grubby looking ship is more of what I'd be piloting.
To me the SW universe is full of these grubby, battle scarred ships. Don't worry, it'll be cleaner than this though, this is me applying muck but over that will go layered greys and red insignia.
And actually, I'm more worried about the A
Thanks mate, although still struggle to see the B in the B-wing!
One of the EU explanations bandied about for it was that it was referred to by some as a 'blade-wing' due to the sword-like shape in attack mode, and this was shortened to 'B-wing'. Which I like personally, because I agree it's really hard to see a B in its shape...
Nice work on the rebasing, though. They look great.
You know, that actually makes perfect sense but, wait, where's the Z in the Z95 headhunter Thanks mate, BTW. Much fun to do.
I've also got the falcon to do. Going to try the revel pigments on that I think. Nothing like experimenting on a centre piece...

Found keeping the A wing crisp enough hard, but happy enough.
Started thinking about actual figures again. I have a Kurganova command group from TGG that I was thinking for sob but not quite right; however, that aesthetic could really work for arkham - I'm thinking as a Harley Quins crews, do them all on different Harley/Joker schemes - How does that sound?
I think he means since the TGG (Toughest Girls in the Galaxy) figures scale size is larger than GW it doesn't fit his SOB look as well as it fits with the scale of the Batman game figures which I believe are 30-35mm scale.
actually that harlequin conversion could work quite well mate!...especially the two right ones...as for the a- wing... for my own taste a tad too crisp looking...
I think there's certainly potential. When I get a bit of time over the next couple of days I'm going to dig through bits boxes and see what stuff I can generally Gotham-ize.
Anyway, last of my X-Wing ships for now:
Now that's a hunk of junk Initial colours and oil staining laid on.

Aaaaaaaaaaaaaanyway, I suppose I should leave this here: Next, weathering powders.
And, No flash, that's how it looks (well, the tiny spot of white at the top has been fixed). Needs OSL around the edges now.

Onto next project.
As mentioned, I *think* I have some Batman minis coming my way; so, I want to have somewhere for them to play. I've started a little modular Gotham Graveyard, based on the contents of my bits box:
You have 4 kinds of objective token in the game: Loot, Riddle, Titan (Bane-fuel) and Ammo; I want mine to be in-keeping with this theme. The tombstones are the Riddle objectives (who's grave is this?!), the pack&shovel/shovel&treasure are loot, and the hastily-buried barrels of toxic waste are titan. Not quite sure how to do ammo, possibly grenades stashed under a rock or something. Obviously, I'm recycling bits, and much gs work still to come.
Oh, and lampposts and sewer hatches (need 3 of each of them - 1 test deadzone lamp built!).
Cheers, and any input and advice gratefully received as always,
Grave(n)
Thanks guys. And Vik, have faith. Remember the end of the Burton Batman? Also ruined Gothic walls and twisted trees can crop up all over, after all. This after could be a park, a ruined lot, or otherwise.
Joker falls to his death escaping from the bat. In the old, old computer game you had to climb the tower whilst joker dropped bells on you. Ah, childhood memories I'm also thinking a shrine of the aquilla will make a good gotham architecture.
ah...you´re referring to the jack Nicholson film... where he drops after the false hand joke...classic joker move^^...that movie in my humble opinion was way more true to the comics...and indeed i played that game too... classic 2D game...ach....i think ii´ve played that on a C64 commodore...omg....how old was i again...?
Indeed, when we were young I do love that movie, first one I ever lied about my age to get into
I've been scratching my head about how to do some decent manhole covers for Gotham. Nothing's really been working for me, but then I came up with this little gs/tool experiment: It's on a standard small base just now, was going to trim, remove carefully and mount on a small coin (10p, probably), then add brass etch letters reading GOTHAM along the top and DWS (Dept of Water and Sewage) along the bottom. Thoughts?
Also, the guy who bought my Asteroid base asked me to knock out some turbolaser turrets for him - crucially, in a way that was relatively easy to replicate. After a bit of headscratching, I decide to use some bits from the Mantic Deadzone accessory sprue: Which turned into this... Then this... And finally these:
A quick, rough bit of commission building work. Suits me
Good idea for the manhole texture, and on that note, that ^ is what I've been looking at for the manhole cover I may be making. How, I don't know yet, but that's the only "Gotham" one I've found so far.
Viktor von Domm wrote:these aren´t too shabby looking...

Thanks buddy. Just coming up with a range of options. I wondered about the tank turret insert, possibly the chaos one. Has interesting shapes and textures. However, I was also just playing with ideas for versions of treadplate etc. I also wondered about something to press mold, but I'm not sure if it's not just worth making the 3.
On we go. Still no idea what faction to play in Gotham so going to continue building random terrain.
So now we have lampposts, with hopefully some interesting base details to catch the light.
And an ammo dump:
Much happier with this as a cache. I might do another that's similar to my loot sack, but don't want it to be too similar. Realistically, I need 2 of each objective for 2 players. Hmm. I did 3 gravestones so I could prop a pack up against one, with grenades etc tumbling forth. Yay / nay?
Also pondering something along these lines:
What?
I have been to ikea 5 times in the last 3 days. It's a special kind of hell, although the boys do now have a decent bedroom for growing lads. Also, there was thankyou beer and pizza from wife, so bonus there at least.
@TP - at 1/270, it would need to be 22ft long. Not doing that @LT - good to see you again! Thanks bud. And it's a possibility yeah I have some great cardboard from the ikea Hell to use as death star surface - so maybe.
Littletower wrote:Re-paint on the ships came out great, and you already have a head start on the how-to's for those turbolasers, so, what's stopping you?
Well, I'm using all my bits on the commission ones storage, mostly, will be the issue. Hence modular experiements.
Theophony wrote:Trentch run congrats on the commission stuff, and cool move with the IKEA setup. I'm excited that the IKEA will be opening in St. Louis this fall.
Oh, it's evil. But the food is good
Quick update - repair/repaints on the trees are ongoing
Don't mind the owl, nothing sinister there (could do with some more of them, actually, think from the old wood elf sprues - anyone?)
And finished the first sewer grate:
That work for folk?
^Thanks mate. It's etched brass from Secret Weapon. I freakin HATE using etch letters which is why I still have 3 alphabets' worth still not 100 % on the Loot backpack. Maybe add a roll of 1s tumbled out?
by the way... i simply forgot to congratulate you to have achieved the one true goal of hobby-ism any nerd aims for but mostly fails... earning money with his hobby...well done!!!!
the death star trench run?... do it... simply as that! it needs to be done! and after the asteroid base, we know you can do it... also, from what IKEA furniture piece re these cardboard pieces?...i can see where this leads....
i recently dived into my bitz box... and i know fr sure, i have one of thee owls... let me know if you are in need...
Some of those Gotham scenery ideas are definitely being nicked for my own incoming BMG stuff! All looking good, and I love the Falcon repaint from the last page!
Viktor von Domm wrote: by the way... i simply forgot to congratulate you to have achieved the one true goal of hobby-ism any nerd aims for but mostly fails... earning money with his hobby...well done!!!!
You're too kind mate. It's not much, but it's something. I do have a plan for the next base that involves a landing strip etc.

Metal loft bed for the elder thing. Kids are growing that fast... I'm not sure about the trench, I need to make sure it is easily to store.
i recently dived into my bitz box... and i know fr sure, i have one of thee owls... let me know if you are in need...
as for the manhole cover... that looks now super!
Fab! That would be ace. I really want scattered owls across the various terrain for Gotham. The next part, I think, is some scaffolding and a sign declaring Another Exciting Development from LexCorp coming soon! I reckon Lex would be delighted to stomp over Gotham history.

Well, hopefully they stay sexy when they've turned into Cosplaying, Lollipop chainsaw Harley Quinn fangirls! In my head that sentence makes sense...
Quick test spray for the trench run. Eats paint like nobody's business. Giving this as a free sample to the turbolaser guy
And I did the second Ammo Dump, quite happy with this now - I think it's clear what it is and different enough from the Loot one (which now has a wee roll of $$$)
Board games tomorrow! My very good friend StoneyBoy has quit managing our FLGS to train as a grief/cancer counselor, very noble. I suspect Talisman and King of Tokyo await...
hmmmm.... well... the trench run might get a wee bit complicated due to the height of the "walls" currently...and i am sure it needs plating for texturizing as the mere cardboard is a bit too rocky looking on that scale...
also.... did a head dive into the bitz box...you´ll love it to pieces what´s heading your wayy... i dunno if you have much IG stuff... i put some stuff by that i think will help your loot and amo issues... (after zooming in on the pic...yeah... that stuff....)
@Gits - well, I am a dilettante @Vik - that's my suspicion also, we'll see how it works out. Thanks for stuff in advance!
Also, more of the lampposts (although I now realise I really need at least 6 Yes, there is a rabbit next to a hole. I'm actually planning to make a puddle there and play with painting reflections. Cos I'm crazy.
They are from the Mantic deadzone scenic accessories sprue. I cut the bottom couple of cms off - blocky, sci-fi, ideal for mounting turbolasers on - and put them on some Fenris Games bike bases I had lying about, added a couple of extra bits (rabbit, more shell cases), et voila! Luckily I think I have the bits to make one more. You need three in game, though you can buy two extra. However, for 2 player, you of course need 6 and I appreciate I should have 3 more sewer hatches too but not sure I can be arsed.
Gotham graveyards looks very promising. Treat it like Pokemon. Play all the factions.
And a bit late, but I've been told Ikea is the Swedish word for crap. Still, they make a nice enough display case, the Detolf. Also I hear the Klingsbo is a decent buy. At least in the US. No idea about UK prices.
Speaking as someone getting into the game myself, that's a very real danger! The good news is that it you pick one of the Bad Guy factions, there's a lot of overlap. For example, things like the Blackgate Prisoners can be used by Joker, Two-face, Bane, League, Penguin, Black Mask, Organised Crime and more, so add any crew starter to a pack of them and you've already got a chunky list, and can expand in plenty of different directions.

Thanks mate. Yes, I am reminded of the Simpsons - "Enjoy your affordable Swedish crap!" It is not bad price wise here, but you need to be careful what you buy. We've just recovered our ikea dining room chairs for like the 4th time, they're doing well for 12 years.

Thick. Definitely thick. I think Watchmen might be the "good" crew for me; bad guys, I'm still thinking court.
Solar_lion wrote:All very dark my friend. Love the manhole... wait what? Manhole cover!! whew!
Cheers There are now 2 more. Egad, I hate brass etch.
Meantime, the mad project: in my head, the idea of cosplayers as Harley Quinn wannabes who (as cosplayers are want to do) have reinterpreted her as some kind of Lollipop chainsaw mashup - yes, in my head , that makes sense. So we end up with this:
From this:
Little changes. I hate working with resin almost as much brass! Especially such tiny, fine, beautiful minis. But we have lollipop, a BANG! gun, and a Pop! gun - all very fitting. The chainswords will all get love hearts and Harlequin diamonds, hair will be 2 colour, all in black and red I suspect. Thoughts? Better pics over next couple of days.
So have begun testing my colour scheme for the walls for my ruined sections of old Gotham, starting with the crumbling churchyard.
Interior test
Needs more corrosion around the grate, streaking, mould on plasterwork etc.
Needs more weathering on bulletholes and some graffiti.
But, in principle, I quite like this. The red clay soil I think adds a nice, bloody contrast, and although it too needs to be darker it feels in keeping, I think.
Thoughts, suggestions, etc?
In other news, I've managed to devise decent storage for my X-wing stuff, and customer was very happy with his laser goodies. He's considering the trench suggestion, so we shall see where that goes.
Played A Touch of Evil last night, excellent hammer horror board game from flying frog, rather Arkham Horror but less lovecraftian. A huge selling point is that you can play against the other worthy investigators or in collaboration - we played a 6 player collaborative against the Spectral Horseman (most powerful in game, though they all are weighted by number of players and individual vs collaborative play), narrowly winning with the loss of only one town elder whose heaving bosom we gamely sacrificed. Excellent stuff.
Trotting on with Gotham scenics for now,
Gracias,
Graven
Cheers!
The basic stone is:
Prime grey
Thin layer of gw khaki
Thin layer of vj cobra leather on the Bricks / ivory on plasterwork
Sepia wash applied in vertical streaks
Earthshade wash applied and allowed to pool
Nuln oil in occasional streaks and blobs at whim.
Dry-brush gw khaki again
Sounds more time consuming than it is.
Hope that's handy.

Automatically Appended Next Post: stone paint work is Aces!
Thanks man. Living in Glasgow, there's a lot of sandstone about (eg my house), and a lot of neo-Gothic architecture, so I want to reflect that. As for the sisters, I'm really wary of painting figures again after all the problems with my hand. I could see my figure painting deteriorate considerably over 2013-14 and I'm really fond of these models so I want to be able to do them justice.
Knightley wrote:Sick looking stone works, I could see quite an awesome looking table with that scenery all over it!
Thanks mate, much appreciated. Dr H is doing me the centrepiece, the ruined Belltower. I'm also thinking that the doorpiece with eagle from the Shrine of the Aquilla would make a great gothic/deco building from Gotham. I may have also just inadvertently acquired a Poison Ivy Crew...
erm....one needs to be the devils advocate...when i picture gotham... a mixture of chicago and new york in my opinion...then sandstone comes way least... dunno what it´s called but i picture gotham in greys... sucked dry of all life essence...but i agree the sandstone you did looks cool^^
also...nice "bang" pistol there.... what´s the green dot behind that other sister tho?

Not an unreasonable assessment - I'm just thinking in terms of church architecture, and brick just didn't feel right, nor did grey stone.
The green dot is going to be a giant lollipop The Sisters are now primed

Its nice of you to give one of the sisters something to suck, what are the other two going to be doing?
Thanks mate. One has a gun going BANG! And the other has a giant oversized pop gun with Cork in the end. Pics below.
So state of my desk just now.
The sewer grates, or at least the first 3 are done :
A little repaint on the Rim is all. Glad I used the bases for this, I think it's worked well.
First set of objectives, now with some paint!
2 Riddles, and the pack themed ammo and loot.
And...
Toxic Titan barrels, other ammo and loot.
More weathering required on drums especially.
Also, the Kurganovas have been primed grey and Dry-brushed ivory so you, and indeed I, can see the details :
Also 3 other walls have got layers on, but no washes yet, so not terribly interesting.
Am definitely getting poison ivy crew, which I think fits rather nicely with my theme of Ruination and plants wish I still had some etched brass ivy, leaves etc. Irony of me wanting brass etch is not lost on me
I've also got vol1 of the new 52 Harley Quinn to read - purely as research you understand...
manhole covers look uniformly good!
the loot and riddles(?) look cool too...
and poison ivy was one of my favourite baddies also.... apart from harley...of course^^...gotta love maniac characters... by the way.... was there ever a crossover between deadpool and her?...would be a truly fitting matchup... tho knowing these two it would be a naughty one...get it?...
are the headswaps of the evil sisters still planned?
oh yeah... the classic diamond pattern on her clothes will be a pain to paint...like a GW harlequin^^... but ou will be proud about it once you got that finished...!
looks promising tho! that´s on the plus side already
Cant wait to see more paint on Harley! Looks like a really nice game actually!
Thanks matey. Remember, that's a Raging Heroes mini that I'm using as a Harley "fan".

Enough with the diamonds! and thanks
A bit of progress though. Reading the New 52 has helped, she constantly changes outfits in that but there are certain themes - plus braiding and nautical headwear feature, as do chainsaws, lollipops (and roller derby, but still) etc.
Hair colours a nod to Arkham/Suicide Squad. Red is blocked in, Black just started.
nice swirl on the lollipop... and is that russian on the coat? ...cant read it... and that hair hints already of psycho^^...well done mister...and hell, sanity...those are just labels...you chose a path when wanting to do harley and her mötley crew...live with it...
well... she is certainly high detailed... the face looks good, i can see she has green eyes... killer babe for sure thus^^
but i think the main issue i see here apart from the light issue is that the black parts of her cloth looks somehow weird...?...patchy somehow...might be that due to the lighting i misinterpret the scheme tho...
Love the lolly. I would consider un-highlighting the black a bit. They grey highlights get mixed up with the lighter colors of her outfit. Make it black with just a hint of upshading and I think the overall effect will be better.

P.S. Is that model "Raging Heroes" or "Raging Hormones"?

No, it's because all the black was done with washes. I've redone the shadows with thinned black - good note!

Oh I know! Ivy and her plants will fit right in; I suspect Harley and some Blackgate guys too. Dunno what capes, if any, are coming my way, but I suspect I'll invest in watchmen or gcpd.
Nice work on the walls and all the token/marker things.
Good job on the graffiti. Cam' did do the perfect tutorial for it. Looks to be enough, as a lot of graffiti can overpower the rest of the model. Do you want it to be a wall with some graffiti on it (occasional vandalism of a still in use area), or a wall of graffiti (long derelict area).
I can see Joker (Ha Ha Ha...) and Ridler (?), but I run out of geek-fu for the rest of them. I would assume that each of the in-game factions will be represented... just a shame I don't know enough of those for a process of elimination...

Thanks! It was tempting to go crazy but I decided to stick with one piece on each side. I would love a bit of graffiti that's for Odessa (one of the gangs in Gotham), if that's doable?
You're on the right lines, btw. The other DCU specific ones are Demonz, a gotham gang from the 90s comics, and Section 8 who are the world's worst superhero team, also based in Gotham. They feature Defenestrator (brings own window), Dog-Welder (self-explanatory), Friendly Fire (he's lethal, to his allies), Bueno Eccelente (he fights crime with the power of perversion), Jean de Baton-Baton (he is... French!), Phlemgem (can produce enormous quantities of bodily fluid), Shakes (he, well, shakes) and their leader 6-Pack (he's drunk).
The square with a line through it is the mahjong tile Chun (sometimes known as red dragon) although it more accurately means the Animal Order, which seems fitting as a symbol for all the animal themed villains.
Oh, and the black and white symbol is a yakuza sign, which crops up in the DCU periodically.
Couple more pics.
A better shot of the trees:
I shall be dotting owls all over, oh yes
And Grates, set 2:
I'm debating what writing to add to these ones, I'm thinking GDWS (Gotham Dept of Waste and Sanitation) or something? Any suggestions (bear in mind I no longer have the letters OTHAM! to spare)?
Cheers,
Graven.
Oh, they ate useless, which is partly why the bat tolerates them
There is also the glory that is BAYTOR who is vaguely worm like demon with a toothed mouth that just yells BAYTOR and works as a barman in an Irish pub. Kind of a proto Hodor. He manages to be completely hilarious. Shakes kinda saves the entire dcu at one point, dying in the process. They're background characters from Ennis's Hitman. Highly entertaining and recommended.
Sounds like DCs version of the Great Lakes Avengers, who are similarly useless.
Mr Immortal: Suicidal Depressive who is entirely immortal and fated to be the last living being in the universe.
Flatman: Elasticity powers like Mr Fantastic, but is always two-dimensional. If he stands side on you can't see him!
Doorman: can make portals... But only though his own body.
Big Bertha: Can gain or lose any amount of body fat.
Squirrel Girl: Ability to communicate with squirrels, martial arts skills, has taken down Dr Doom, Thanos, Ultron, Modok and basically anyone who's anyone...
inmygravenimage wrote: ... I would love a bit of graffiti that's for Odessa (one of the gangs in Gotham), if that's doable?...

As do the new grates. That's a sizeable rat there. GDWS sounds sensible. or GWSD (meaning the same thing)
or G (separate from) WASD (again the same thing, but representing the "and", and then a nod to PC gamers for the typical keys of movement).

Grand! I found another strip of Secret Weapon letters, too incomplete but usable - 3 Gs!
So I got my Starter: These are BIG models - proper 35mm, in fact Poison Ivy is close to 40mm. The plants are nice too, very Audrey 2. I also got a classic Adam West batman, which is just a lovely model However, to run Ivy properly, I'm going to need more plants, and obligingly Knight doesn't sell them separately.
So I rummaged and found this lot:
That plastic hand/mouth (bottom right) will be particularly handy! (buhdum-tch! ) so need to find some more of them
It occurs to be that the various brass etch basing kits and the Catachan jungle warriors both used to have some great plant bits soooooooooooooooooooooooo begging here, would you be able, my lovelies, to cast an eye over your bits boxes and see if you could find me any (or "mouth-hands")? You'll receive my eternal gratitude, as well as being turned into a zombie plant slave. Now there's an offer.
Anyway, assembled, with minimal clean-up, and an interloper made from chaos spawn bits old and new: Funny working with metal again! The only one that needs more work (gs etc) is the Creeper, the one with big leaves lying down at the moment. Making more spore plants (on the left) is actually going to be the tricky bit. For that, I think I'll need the big catachan leaves.
So, thoughts? Does the kitbash work (obviously that also needs a little gsing also)?
What I find useful is the plastic plants you can find for Aquariums. They come in all types and colors and you get a lot of quantity depending on the type or quality.
As a bonus you can use them for basing and other terrain projects.
Do you have any of the GW plants from the same set that you have the buildings from? You could assemble them with the leave parts upside down and paint them as one big gaping mouth or just use the brown trunks to be more like grasping hands.
I do own quite a bit of jungle plants...but I am not sure what you're after for? Rummaged around and found a bunch, but nothing remotely looking as a mouth?
Gitsplitta wrote:Can you post a pic of the Adam West batman model?
Great job on mocking up the extra plant. PI's got a kickin' shape, should be fun to paint!
Sure:
Yeah, she's a foxy lady. Not sure how to do her base though, I was thinking like plants almost spilling from her step, but I dunno...

Nah, sadly, this is the scrapings of my bitsbox. Very sci fi, and very depleted.
Viktor von Domm wrote:I do own quite a bit of jungle plants...but I am not sure what you're after for? Rummaged around and found a bunch, but nothing remotely looking as a mouth?
Actually I'm okay for mouth parts, it's the leaves really I need! Could you send me a pic?
Bit more progress so you can see the Creeper (big leaves guy):
It's satisfying isn't it? I've done a couple of bits boxes for Magosbiff and mean green stompa just recently, it's fun to hunt with a purpose other than frustration or blind panic!
I raided the kids playmobil plants tonight (I'm blaming you!) but not much to show for it. Excited about what you've found!
^that is a verrry good idea... in fact when i started in the realms of GW crack... then the first idea i had for plants was playmobil trees and stuff...i was packed full with ebay acutions... but i thought better about it and didn´t buy in a frenzy^^
by the way... i think adamsouza made convincing trees from kitchen sponges...the scrubby side of them...
^ Thankyou kindly. Yes, I remember your boats and playmobil people well
Anyway, to finish the sporadic and rather over-excited day, some basing: Ivy's not attached to her base yet, as I want to embellish it further with greenery, but you get the idea.
Why is Batman standing on a horizontal brick wall? Cos he's 60s Batman, and when you were a kid ADMIT IT you believed he was walking up a wall.
Hah, brilliant! I really think Adam West should have the ability to scale walls... Really, really slowly, and only if you can produce a good enough 'guest celebrity' impression!
Email them for a more accurate shipping cost, the automated calculator says two will cost £3.50 ish to ship, but it's actually about 75p within the UK.
I'm getting some for my current project, so once they arrive I can let you know if they're any good?
if you have the time...i have currently by the way a big batch of dried brch seeds...i am just mentioning this here to protect you from buying stuff that ...ach...
You can also make medium to large leaves from a sandwich-bag tie ...sandwiched... between two layers of tissue paper, glued together with PVA. They remain flexible and posable even after paint.

Awesomesauce! Folks, you have to go check this out! And good tips
So digging for stuff and bothering people yields results!
My former minion, now Gw staffer, found me this -
Age of Sigmar = much terrain being retired from store usage. If you're in with your local Blackshirts, worth asking.
To be fair, I am giving him 2 rt era bloodthirsters that are older than him but that's in exchange for pretty much free range rummaging in one of the staff bits boxes I want to somehow add a flat section of roof to it but no idea where or how...?
Began work on my Titan Creeper - I want to be able to distinguish between the different upgrades my plants get so cut up an old old old metal chaos spawn.
Ran out of gs though :( but you get the idea?
Also, found a 1/32 scale camper from the kids that seems of good scale.
So you want to add a flat roof, you say? Hacksaw the top off and replace or build a fitted cover. I think in either case you may have to trim some of the spiky details off and add them back on when the roof is done.
Don't replace the roof instead build a widget that will fit over the top of the ridge line and come down the slope of the roof and then angle outward to make a flat area for your figs to stand on. Bonus points if it's all done in clear plastic.

Birch pods lead to madness I'm going to try making my own flowers, actually, going to get the wife to teach me with sugarpaste and then attempt to scale down.

Warboss_Waaazag wrote:So you want to add a flat roof, you say? Hacksaw the top off and replace or build a fitted cover. I think in either case you may have to trim some of the spiky details off and add them back on when the roof is done.
Haha that's my kind of creative destruction!
Theophony wrote:Don't replace the roof instead build a widget that will fit over the top of the ridge line and come down the slope of the roof and then angle outward to make a flat area for your figs to stand on. Bonus points if it's all done in clear plastic.
Actually, I'm thinking of putting scaffolding around it. That gives me structure, height, and feels... Fluffy, I guess.
It has also spurred on another idea for a flat roofed building: a vault, maybe even a cryogenic vault - a box, basically, but a... cool one thoughts?
A productive day today, but not in a p&m way. Built a triple wardrobe instead kids spent saved pocket money on lego Scooby Doo and Gotham Jail respectively (kudos to the little one for his excellent choice!)
I did get a bit more gs done, and had a massive fight with brass etch lettering - made a T, painfully, as I only had one left, and promptly lost the one I *did* have
Still, we are getting there. My game planned for 4th is delayed :( but that means I'll at least be able to get on with the gang
Hopefully going to pick up a K Wing for my Rebels this week, assuming it's finally out, and likely Harley and Catwoman for my Gotham Sirens.
Until next bat-time, same bat-channel,
Graven

This all looks fantastic so far . Been thinking of getting some of the Batman Minis myself, If only as an excuse to build some Arkham Asylum Terrain.
Or even better, a snow covered Gotham city board, based on Batman Returns (my favorite Batman movie).
But I should probably finish my current projects first .
man... the other day i was looking for the big 200! wanted to be the first to congratulate... awesome blog mate... fun, models and pretzels...er...ok...two out of three...:(
Theophony wrote:Cryo-vault/ mr freeze hq? Just make sure that it has a room to keep batman prisoner in (which obviously has 15 or so escape routes).
Also good idea with the scaffolding.
Yup, that's the plan. Going to try cake rods for poles.

Nah, let hobby adhd kick in! the Arkham Asylum kit is amazing. Do your own snow scene

Another one to add to the list
Viktor von Domm wrote:that card is of the old joker style sketches from the early nineties...right? that was when i read batman...it wasn´t that grim and dark back then...
I dunno it had its moments. Looks like a 70s sketch to me, it's quite neal Adams-y.

Ta! Needs paint.
Viktor von Domm wrote:Ah...truth and modesty the style of these pics made me think that way...
Dr H is a model to us all
Theophony wrote:WooHoo!!!!
Happy double century mark If each page was a year then this blog would be as old as Gotham city itself.
Now get to work on more epic stuff to kickoff the next 200pages.
Cheers mate - can't believe it myself!
Gitsplitta wrote:Congrats on a mighty 200!
Hardly a scratch on your tally, but many thanks

Congrats on the double century, Graven!

That's the plan, I'm still getting my head round it.

Note to self: Must add pretzels
Solar_lion wrote:Congrats on the 200... Maybe not pretzels...but there has been cake!
True and thanks
Don't have much to show you today, just been hanging out with the kids, museums - dinosaur, mummy, spitfire - just chilling with pizza and movies.
Cya for the next 200 Graven
200. Congrats. I hear The Admins give you cookies (American Cookies, no idea what you guys call them) when you reach 300... Or Gerard Butler shows up and shouts at you.
I know I think a couple of splash banners on there too. Now the real question is, what to put on the back?!

Biscuits! Omnomnom. Cheers mate! This. Is. DAKKA!

Ta!
Yggdrasil wrote:Wow, 200 pages is a huge step ! Congrats mate, hope you come up with other nice things
Merci! I shall try.
I have begun mocking up the scaffolding frame:
I plan on having low levels at the side and a high level above. Should I attach it or attempt to make it removable?
I'm also thinking of making a free-standing version, just to add a bit of random height.
Also working on plant life:
So the Titan Creeper has an extra head and I've begun work on the other spore slave, using plastic chaos arms as a skeleton.
Today I'll get some more goodies - quite literally, picking up the Gotham Swat team with Jim Gordon from the flgs and a promo Alfred from a mate, giving me a viable Batman crew. Getting Swamp Thing from another mate which is a brutal addition to Ivy (but can be used in a Batman crew also). Waiting not terribly patiently on a K-wing for Wars, too
