They just get better with every release. Holy hell are those good.
Y'know, I started creating a biker-gang scenario that featured a "scroll mode" table (remove back section, replace in front every turn... those who do not keep up die!). Looks like I'll have to get that finished soon.
So..... They look really great, but I think I actually don't like them. But they do look great; just something about them that isn't appealing to my sensibilities.
I must be the only one that's actually disappointed. I don't need these. Yeah, they look nice, but I'm just not a fan of the bikes. Plus, if we had to get bikes, I was rather hoping that they'd be Merc bikes.
I was also ever so slightly hoping that these wouldn't turn out to be bikes at all, but rather generic TAGs like the Geckos for the Mercs.
Anyway, easy pass for me. I think I'll just buy that Spitfire Druze instead.
Alpharius wrote: Though if you're being honest, the old ones were rather easy to resist.
I'm with Cincy on this one - while they are great looking, there is something about them...
I won't be adding them to my Haqqislam forces.
I'm sticking with the Assassins, QK and the Super Soldiers.
i actually like, and own, the original bikes...
butt girl sold me, just for pure cheesecake...
these are way cooler, but don't fit the sci-fi look for me...
mono-wheels seem more sci-fi than Hell's Angels in space...
love the models as stand alone pieces, though...
luckily, i'm just a painter, so i can can enjoy both styles...
Barzam wrote: I was also ever so slightly hoping that these wouldn't turn out to be bikes at all, but rather generic TAGs like the Geckos for the Mercs.
Except that Bostria made it pretty clear what we are getting this month. 12 models, all new. 3 boxes, 2 blisters, no TAGs. There was never a chance they were going to be TAGs.
I'm torn. These look absolutely astonishingly amazing, but I really REALLY wish they weren't kum. I LOVE the monocycles, I have 5 of them and I've never even used them in a game. These are incredible, but it looks like they'll be replacing the monocycles which makes me uber sad. I'll probably still eventually pick them up anyways, lord knows I need more bikers i'll never play with so long as they're awesome. Maybe these new ones will be my kum and the old monos will get converted to Yu Jing, they always seemed more fitting for that faction anyways.
Also these are a HUGE missed opportunity, this would have been perfect to introduce pill-shaped bases that could have also been used for all those TAGs that need extenders. Mount them on 40mmx70mm bases with round ends and solve that issue once and for all. *sigh*
Automatically Appended Next Post: Or, maybe I'll use these as Swoops like sombody suggested, they are PERFECT for Star Wars fringers with barely any converting at all, just chop off the easily clippable wheels. MMMMmmmmm, Swoop races *drools*
Sad that they lost the mono-wheel, which was a cool manga reference. But, what a sculpt to replace it with! Seriously, the mohawk guy is an absolutely spectacular sculpt, like I would say one of the best I have ever seen and certainly for this kind of miniature which will be loved by anyone who has ever seen Mad Max or Fist of the North Star.
It fits the biker-gang background of these guys - and seriously, grow up about the name haha..
I'm going to get my bike-head on about the features on those bikes as well at some point (hopefully they have the same nerdy attention to detail as 'Penthouse') when they have released some close-ups! I will say though looking at the length of that wheelbase I hope there is some special '18-point turn in the road' rule for these guys

I agree with you. Although I think these are an improvement over the old models, I don't think they fit what I have in mind for my Haqqislam, so I don't know if I'll be getting them.
They should have sent a poet.... no words... no words at all.
...
Okay, so I love the new concept. I can understand why people say they don't "feel" right, but I think that's just because they feel very sectorial-y looking.
But that's probably got to be the biggest 1st version->2nd version upgrade I've ever seen in all of miniatures.
Considering this is a strict revamp of the second Kum boxed set with a Rifle and ChainRifle, there's probably another coming out soon. Rather than having Butt-Girl v2.0 and Generic-Rifleman, it may end up being like the Asuka boxed set with a special character (Izzat Beg) and probably a Generic Kum with Boarding Shotgun.
Although those are great figs, I may have to buy the mono wheels quick before they disappear. I really liked the concept, even if the sculpts were not at the same level.
As odd it might sound, the previous sculpts might be more detailed. I've put my first Bolts together and found them somehow more cumbersome, problematic fitting and less elegant compared to certain older models, not to mention the scale difference between them. Overall quality of them feels sloppy and rushed, not beating around the bush. Remarkable what difference the finishing touch of a brush can make.
I'm definitely interested in how well the new sculpts will be. It might not be a bad idea to purchase an older model, if you prefer older aesthetic.
I hope if Anteoniciti partner for terrain they will bring back their scenery pieces.
A lot of the indoors and urban pics of Infinity are full of Antenociti bits like air scrubbers, fuel pumps, rubbish bins and so on that really add to the environment -- all of which have been withdrawn from production!
I think i start to understand why there arent oblong/ovoid bases... it would cause a grey area around fitting through doorways, etc. They're standard sizes after all, and an ovoid base shape would kind of be.. two sizes?
The models are fething awesome. For Kum. That's exactly the kind of motorbike I don't want to see in Ariadna. If USAriadna is going to have finally bikes, I hope they fit with the landscape and gakky roads/paths.
Erasoketa wrote: The models are fething awesome. For Kum. That's exactly the kind of motorbike I don't want to see in Ariadna. If USAriadna is going to have finally bikes, I hope they fit with the landscape and gakky roads/paths.
Pretty much this. I want the USAriadna to have more legit dirt bikes. The Kum riders look perfect for their fluff. I do wish they had've tried to update the Monocycles instead of going two wheels, but I'm not going to complain about it.
I'm also happy because it looks like the Smoke Launchers are just sort of stick on... so I can leave them off if I want to.
Also plastictrees wins the internet for the day, that post was perfection.
Hmm .. for my first bike-nerd observation, those big things on the front of the engine look like induction for super-chargers. Fething awesome, I love that someone has put such thought into it beyond the aesthetic.
There's a tournament in Granada towards the end of the month which will have CB staff in attendance. That's where April's 'huge news' is expected to be announced.
Micky wrote: I think i start to understand why there arent oblong/ovoid bases... it would cause a grey area around fitting through doorways, etc. They're standard sizes after all, and an ovoid base shape would kind of be.. two sizes?
Except you currently have that exact issue with the extensions anyways, they're ALREADY oblong bases. Just count the base as the shorter length, since a TAG on a 40mmx70mm pill/oval base could sidestep through a doorway, exactly like they do right now since the extensions get in the way.
People do scenic bases all the time. And some models even come with bases that are much larger than they normally would be, like the Sapper Moblot, the Cateran Sniper, and that other Ariadna guy with the HMG on a big base... can't remember what they're called.
IJW wrote: There's a tournament in Granada towards the end of the month which will have CB staff in attendance. That's where April's 'huge news' is expected to be announced.
From what someone on the Spanish forum said, Interruptor and Bostria basically flatout said "from the 26th to the 28th" is when they want to announce the news. Does that tournament fall under those dates?
Genuinely asking, I don't follow the tournament dates.
Good if the smoke launchers don't have to be included... kinda clunky, looks like they robbed them off a spesh mahreen to me... which means they probably look ww 1-2 era.

The tournament is on Saturday 26th. It takes place in a gaming-comic-nerdy stuff-con running both Saturday and Sunday 27th.
Almost 80 players. I can barely find one in my city
Yeah.... I had my wife ask after Infinity at the gamestore about an hour south where she works on occasion, and they thought she was talking about the Disney Infinity thing... at a gamestore! Facepalm, no love for Infinity within an hours drive, at least, the other gamestore is the same.

Everything else is stellar though, very nice.
Google Smoke Launchers and check out the images GW copied them from modern tanks. Of course.
Anyway, next week is Santa Semana, and CB will have reduced staff. I'd guess that we won't get any more news until the Granada tournament, although, maybe some more previews of minis right before it, so as to not interfere with the big news...

Semana Santa we place the words in a different order.
Well, even if that's what current smoke launchers look like... this is Infinity and it's set in the future, those just look too chunky for my taste is all. If they're actually accurate to modern technology, I guess it's a bit better, but I wouldn't put them on myself. But I'm more inclined towards Aragatos anyway.
@Bobbafett Infinity movie, teehee. The RPG or video game could be cool though.
The sad thing is that I know of at least one major game studio that has a decent number of Infinity players in the company and a potential interest in developing a video game based upon Infinity, but they consider Corvus Belli too much of an unknown quantity when it comes to the creative license that the developers would get when creating a game.
The movie? I would cast Megan Fox as the ADHL Chasseur ( or chasseuse), or the Caledonian LGL volunteer, to be honest.
The video game... sounds intriguing. But most likely not happening... yet. The news, it'll be about an upcoming release, like the next book or new sectorials.

It's usual for an 3D sculpt to loose sharpness, i agree that the new bolt are inferior in quality for an infinity standard
let just hope that they will do only 3D sculpt for line troops and TAG ...
those biker might be not 3D sculpt but "traditionnal sculpt"
Hmm, who sculpted which minis? I read a comment from Koni (Carlos Morales) the Production Chief, that CB was currently using a mix of traditional and 3d sculptors. There was a photo floating around of Jose Luis Roig doing some digital sculpting, and he does, or did, all the Pan-O (the Pan-O mechanic is a selfie...)
while the new concept of the moraat is good, the quality is bad.
Most of the stuf that came out since the New 3D era is bad in my opinion, except TAG and other mech ofc,
i had, for exemple, bought both wildcat and bolt; and wildcat are better in all critera, better proportion, better quality of sculpt
CB started with 3D sculpt to make more TAG because old TAG techniques were to dificult/costly to make
i know that most people dont care about quality because its still better than other mini company (GW included) but some are.
in official french forum we are far from all being happy by those changes. And i'm realy suprised that most of the people here seems to be ok with it.
EDIT: I think that the ikadron/imetron is the first infinity mini made with those new 3D modeling tech

Not agree at all with the statement that 3D modelling means bad quality. Not agree at all.
Most of all 3D models from CB have been made by Fausto Gutierrez (Yedharo Models) and also Javier Unrena.

I know a few 3D Sculptors and they are sick of the idea that people has about 3D sculpting. It's similar to using photoshop in the 90's for coloring comic books. It is a TOOL, and it is as good as the artists who use it.
If people cannot distinguish a CB 3D miniature from a traditional sculpted miniature, then, CB is doing their 3D stuff correctly.
Exactly!
There are some damn fine models on that list, and comparing them to some of the older ones I've picked up the only difference I have noticed is that the older ones don't go together as well and require more cleaning.
Ok, here we have 2 similar models.
One is made using 3D sculpting and the other one is traditional sculpting.
I want you to tell me wich one is traditonal and wich one is 3D. And if you can't tell, then CB is doing their job right.
motyak wrote: Nope. If I had to guess I'd say Singh, but then I'm just guessing.
I would guess Rao, the sculpt itself seems slightly less 'organic'. But, that is from the perspective of someone who doesn't really know much about the sculpting processes.
They are both bloody nice miniatures though.
I got some nice pictures of some of the (new?) Bandau terrain by the way at Salute, it was very nice! Will post some pics later.

Anything painted by giraldez will look good ...
I'm a far worst painter than Giraldez but I can see the diference. For exemple I'm doing a conversion today using the pilote of the anaconda (3D sculpt) and part of the bootleg stuf, well bootleg stuf is quality sculpt not 3D sculpt rounded edge loss of sharpness etc ..
3D sculpt is not bad just less good than traditionnal sculpt
Like i said most people dont care about the quality because they play the game and spend max 3 hours to paint a mini, i'm a painter so I see the diference.
Haha yes, it's Basque. I don't speak Basque actually, but part of my descent is Basque. I wanted a nickname related to a raid so... I chose that. I probably should have chosen anything shorter. Parece que hablas español muy bien

The last name is Javier Ureña. I realize I'm being a bit of a grammar nazi in my latest posts and I'm sorry about that, but if someone is curious to google him to see his work, having the name right would make it easier
Sangarn wrote: but you cant say 3D sculpt = traditionnal sclupt
We are agree to disagree.
3D Sculpting is a tool. Your statement is basically saying that a bad traditional sculpt will be better than an average 3D sculpt and I say it depends on the artist.
The fact that there are lots of bad 3d sculpts out there doesn`t mean that tool is not effective for modelling. That is like saying that photoshop looks too digital back in the 90s. No one would use that argument today.... why? because we've seen lots of stuff done by lots of talented people.
We have been through this before... People saying that digital cameras are worse than photochemical, people saying that a Polaroid SX70 camera is better than a nowadays Nikon 5200... come on! it's just snobby stuff.
I respect traditional sculptors, because of the huge technical skills that traditional sculpt require... but I also have eyes to see that a 3D equally talented artist deserves the same credit for making the same quality sculpting.
I saw a talk the main Dropzone Commander guy was doing about his 3D digital sculpting, walking through how he did it and stuff.
I work in IT, but don't have an artistic bone in my body and I've got to say, god damn that was some scary awesomely difficult stuff. - And that was just a dropship he was doing, not a person.
Digital sculpting really is a darn impressive talent just as much as anything else arty.
Rao is a 3d sculpt, Singh is traditional. Note the weapon size differences. Both are very good minis. If in doubt, look at the metal band that connects the feet. Under strong light at the right angle, you should see the resolution lines of the 3d printing process.
Add the Barid and Treitak Anyat (but not Angus or Bipandra) and the VIP civvie to the 3d list.
@Erasoketa... Erasoka =Attack, Erasoketa = little attack? Yes, Spanish is a useful language to know. And, Grammar Nazi*? So, you're in the Real Academia Española eh?
And before Big A hits me with the Ban Hammer for going OT... We are supposed to get word on these new 55mm bases soon, next week according to Koni. I suspect it in the same category as the Medikit/Doctor combo, or the drop bear mine shooter weapon, ie. a preview of something in the upcoming edition.
Very nice, just recently picked up the Morat starter so hopefully these should come out when I am done painting those.
A screen-grab of the weapon options, for those who got it completely wrong (like I did)! Like the CAHMG, and the fact that it's obviously using a different form of tech to its human-built counterpart
Darkjim wrote: It's time too. I'm fairly confident I could have redecorated half my house in the time I spent on my first 15 Infinity minis.
Yep, I want to go buy three more armies, I could justify buying three more armies to myself, but I already have enough stuff on my painting backlog that it would just be unfair to all those poor models that will be sitting in boxes.
I dunno guys, I find that the newer Morat sculpts are just way too sexualized and beefy. They give the impression all aliens are bodybuilding red faced killer monkeys, and that's just not fair!
...I am reeeeeally inclined to make that Morat Aggression Force now. I love the way the weapons on those guys look! My poor engineers with MK12's are gonna look tiny next to these guys.
How the hell do they stuff one of those dudes into a Raichu? Mebbe the Raichu has Zerat pilot? (Future bootleg model incoming).

All the pilots (regular and bootleg, except Scarface/Joe Turner) seem to be female, so a zerat pilot is probably correct, and would be small enough to fit into the Raicho. The Oznat may be a preview of the sort of bootleg it would be.
My search-fu is pretty weak - does anyone have a picture of one of the new Morats alongside some regular troops from another faction? I'm trying to get a sense of how much taller and bulkier they are.
They definitely don't look like light infantry anymore.
To be fair they never really did. That metro only comes up to shoulder height on the original vanguards as well. The original vanguard were always taller and bulkier than other LI models.

What are the odds on what the new announcement is going to be? Some kind of interior battles system along with new terrain? New book?

With BoW being a self funding and very small operation, it must be a major announcement to warrant them going to Spain. Whether they or Corvus Belli are funding the trip, it isn't an expense either company would take on just for some terrain.

Agreed!
I'm getting rather excited now - it is only about a week away, and with BoW in attendance, we should have some decent coverage and, more importantly, Pics!
Honestly I have no idea at all. Maybe a new book (to be pre-released at GenCon? Because that's what most of us is expecting for the next book), maybe a new deal with a third party to develope a different kind of product... or maybe they are making another line like Dire Foes and Bootleg. They have talked before about "battle ravage", as in minis showing battle damage.
Or maybe they are not presenting a particular product and just want to clarify what's going to be happening from now until the release of the next book.
That sounds very cool! Imagining some diorama with a TAG that's been badly damaged, and the crew member having jumped out and inspecting it (or having a sit down or something!)

It's all speculation...
It is only an 8 hour drive from Pamplona to Granada.... just sayin'
BoW might be there because quite a bit is going on. FicZone is more than just an Infinity Event. But BoW is on very good terms with CB so I expect good coverage.

I've done that drive before, and it's not exactly my idea of a nice journey xD I'd rather read the comments, see the pics and watch the videos. Or go by train, but I can't afford it.
Interesting comment on the Antenociti LifeInvader page, quite possibly relevant!
Booked-in a new 3d Designers over the weekend for around a dozen new civilian vehicles of various types, sizes and degrees of "sci-fi-ness"... which frees up Jed to concentrate on developing scenery for " a certain game".
Meaning that Jed's been working on 25mm, 40mm and 5mm bases over the weekend, plus more scenery scatter items for sci-fi tables.. you can never have too much scatter.
On top of that we will soon be releasing some new fantasy sets for interior and exterior detailing, as well as some resin house kits... expect more and more detailed news once the website and blog have been fully updated.
Antenocitis workshop are gearing up for their kickstarter. It is to fund Infinity civilian vehicles. They are also releasing 3 faction specific dropships. They are just finalising the design of these with Corvus Belli. Their terrain prototypes looked amazing and there is more of that to come.
Everyone gets caught by this at least once.. if you double post, just leave them and then one of them will vanish under mysterious circumstances later on.
I'm pretty sure PanO will be in, yeah. (Also: yay!) Combined would be... interesting. I'd expect a specific morat ship with all the love they've been getting rather than a "generic" CA ship (if that could even be a thing, given how diverse the faction is).
Aleph would probably just use ships from an aleph-aligned faction, right?
Also, where are Nomads on that list - if anything, they ought to get one!
I asked what the factions would be. He wouldn't tell me but I had a guess anyway. I guessed Pan-O, Yu-Jing and Aleph. He said I got 2 out of 3. Which ain't bad.
I asked about rules and he would only smile and say that "Corvus Belli are intending to move the game on." Now I'm not saying that we are about to get a load of vehicle rules, but I just got the sense that something is gonna happen that is a bit of a shake up. I just don't know what. The guy was excited though
.... remarkable coincidence but i spent a part of this easter weekend making 3 new ranges of bases all of which just happen to have 55mm sized bases in them....
Fourteen? I am glad to hear about the drop ships and not just the Adrian Monk in me was starting to be bothered by the drop ship thread title but no drop ships for over a year!

Those pure expeculations collide with what Corvus Belli has been saying in many events about vehicles for the last 2 years.
They tested a first alpha version, it did'nt work for them, they leave those rules aside. They do not want Vehicles to behave like TAGs in the game. So no vehicles for Infinity.
Vehicles are bikes. Vehicles are dropships. That stuff alreayd exists in Infinity.
I'll be quite surprised if big Tanks or Trucks suddenly appear in the Infinity rules. I think that we are NOT going to see that this year or even next year.

I wonder though if we might see Dropships used as some objective type element, or as part of scenarios? I don't for one moment think we are going to see some mega-powerful flier dropping pie-plate templates and practically auto-killing the units they hit - I would expect something for more measured and subtle.
They're dropships used for SpecOps in civilian areas, not bombercraft used for leveling battlefields.
Similar to how we have Mechanized Deployment as a rare yet abstract special rule in the game, the dropships could be used as a sort of moving or placed terrain. They'd also be a great scenario objective.
With regards to them being active pieces on the table, they don't have to behave like TAGs.
For example, once 'dropped', they could be stationary or otherwise quite slow, but equipped with very basic weaponry. Instead of directly firing, they could place a sort of suppression marker, that works like Suppression Fire but instead of being a line of suppression, this being a circular zone of suppression. This would give them more of an area denial role than a direct offensive role.
There's ways to make them an active model without making them dominate the board just because they're a dropship.
That said, I'd prefer to see them limited to scenarios. I loved the concept behind the Kill the Tank scenario. Similar type objectives using dropships would be great - especially if they were tailored to each faction. For example, a Haqqislam scenario where you need to get a civilian to a drop ship. Maybe give Odalisques a bonus if they are the ones that synchronise with them to get them to the dropship.

While "it could be done" sounds great... but this game seems so delicate.... just by allowing big pieces of terrain fall from the sky wherever the players wants, blocking line of fire, that completely changes the whole basic mechanics of the current ITS missions beign played right now.
I'll just simply use dropships to cut line of fire, making an expensive enemy sniper completely unuseful. It touches the delicate balance of this game.

Yeah thats pretty much exactly how I think they will work, and if the new book contains rules for any other vehicles as part of the new campaign system or as standalone rules for use in all games, I expect they will work that way too. An abstraction of it's primary purpose instead of a representation of everything it could do.
Edit: But more likely it will serve as a mobile spawning point for reserves, where you might only be able to disembark passengers at the start of each turn at it's current location and if it gets destroyed, everyone still on board is KIA

I can't see how they have to block LoS. They're dropships. They don't have to land. They can drop, and the unit inside deploys by chute or rope or whatever sci fi convention you want to throw in. After that, they'd still be flying, so they wouldn't be blocking LoS unless you're on a pretty tall building. That is assuming they are on something like a flying base.

Then.... the dropships wont be on the table.... then why bother buying one of those dropships?
I'm not trying to be disrespectful. Don't get me wrong.
Oh, what if the new campaign rules feature games where each mission features two tables with objectives that must be complete on both.. and with each force split between the two tables, the dropship is the only way to move troops between them..

When did I say they won't be on the table? They're be on a base with a clear stick that raises them above the ground. A flying base. So you wouldn't be blocking LoS, but like I mentioned earlier, may have other abilities.
I'm not trying to be disrespectful either - but I don't see why people keep assuming the sky is falling with the mere mention of CB adding anything to Infinity. Yes, it's a game with delicate balance. Guess who achieved that balance? Corvus Belli. Guess who plays their own game in a competitive setting very regularly? Corvus Belli. Some of their studio members tour tournaments and take part more than the Foo Fighters tour. Look at the Bolts - they didn't release their mine launcher profile because they didn't want to upset ITS 2014, by releasing a profile that likely requires counters that are in the same book.
They know their game. They know the games balance, because they achieved it and play the game. They know the balance they achieved is a big reason why people play this game. People shouldn't be afraid of them breaking the balance by adding something new. They - demonstrably - know what they are doing. If they say they want to 'move forward with the rules' and are showing off Dropships, the logical conclusion should be, after looking at how lovingly they treat the game and its balance, that they've taken a very considered approach to how they want to do it without breaking the games balance.
plastictrees wrote: What sort of monster would choose to not buy a dropship?
The sort who would scratch-build his own. But then there may be conversion possibilities too...
OTOH, Antenocitis make excellent stuff, so I for one really want to see these dropships. And the interior scatter mentioned on the FB page... although I got the impression it might only be for fantasy based stuff... interior detailing it said.
Um, there's already rules amd stats for dropships in the main rulebook. Why is this an issue?
Besides, Hellcats gotta jump out of something, right? And just what are those Halqa deploying from? I can't be the only person who thinks it would be fun to actually utilize those vehicles.

I'm more concerned how Mules will look on 55mm. They fit perfectly on 40mm. I suppose you could make room or remove extensions for the special REM.

They were awfully confidant about ITS 2014, something that persists to be a rather controversial issue. My perception also lead me to believe that overall people prefer to play YAMS, something I personally do not consider to be very fun and very monotone, yet concede that it is more balanced. PanO is consequently stuck with a second (third, if you count Bolt/special weapon box) release that effectively does nothing to the army, however we are paying darn pretty schillings for units that simply don't do anything. We're left with, "it will make sense in the future".
Simply put it, I am loosing faith in Corvus Belli. They are eager to spike certain areas, while leaving others dry. Perhaps they know more rabid fanboys will relish the chance to defend them.
I agree wrt MULs; complaining we don't get enough fancy toys however - naah. We're perfectly competitive (unless you want to try playjng ASA or MO in ITS but that's not new) and a few 'delayed effect' releases won't change that.
I'm wondering if there's anything big (like a box set) coming for Tohaa this year, or all blisters from now on... have to plan out a commission job, as I have a friend painting mine
There's nothing left for Tohaa that would take a box, so unless we get an early release from the next book Tohaa only have a few blisters left to release.
-Loki- wrote: There's nothing left for Tohaa that would take a box, so unless we get an early release from the next book Tohaa only have a few blisters left to release.
Sakiel have enough to release to justify a box. There are none of the "Combi Rifle" profiles as models, just Spitfire(blister) and Viral Combi Rifle(starter box exclusive).

The paint on the Druze's armor looks really chunky. Might just be the extreme colse-up but I don't think I've ever found anything to be critical of on other CB minis.
The problem with a Sakiel box is it will basically be 'LRL and 3 combi rifles'. That doesn't make a very exciting box, but Sakiels do seem to be popular. I guess they could spice it up with a nullifier model and one with a sidearm or melee weapon. But they're definitely scraping the bottom of the barrel concerning Tohaa. There's just not much left to release.
On the Clipsos... Eeeh. Not a huge fan. It's definitely not bad, but I was expecting another dynamic pose like the starter Clipsos. Absolutely love the Druze and Kum though. They'll be going in the collection for sure.

There is a ton of stuff still to release. There's still no Vulkan Shotgun Ectros, no Boarding Shotgun or Combi Rifle Gao-Rael, no Combi Rifle Sakiels, etc.

Dynamic doesn't mean that the model needs to be acrobatic or in some absurd pose. It's not hard to imagine that the Clipsos Sniper is surveying an area for a shot or something of that nature.
What is there to elaborate? Paradiso introduced Geckos (amazing TAG), Haris (Haqqislam), new unique fire teams (Steel Phalanx, Tohaa), marksman rifle (Ariadna) and new rather standard, yet interesting units. How can anyone claim it is fine to release units that do not offer anything to a player, but on the other hand have something that is simply game changing ? If we buy the pretence of "not currently compatible with the game", why was there a rush to release them at all ? It just blows my mind when people claim Corvus Belli is somehow infallible and always delivers. Was I imagining the debate on the new cast technique that was only few pages back? Am I imagining that no one is playing Paradiso missions, even though it is relatively fresh release?
What is there to elaborate? Paradiso introduced Geckos (amazing TAG)
Not really as amazing as some people like to suggest they are. Are they good? Certainly...but they're still pretty damn expensive points wise and pay out the nose for weapons that are primarily infantry stuff.
Haris (Haqqislam)
Haris existed before Paradiso.
new unique fire teams (Steel Phalanx, Tohaa)
Which all have some kind of downside. Steel Phalanx can only make their Link Teams with a character that has Enomotarchos. To give an example, the only group you are really going to be making Enomotarchos teams with are going to be Myrmidons since they can use Myrmidon Officers or the named characters(barring Atalanta, Diomedes, Achilles, and Penthesilea).
The Tohaa Triads can never be more than 3 models(the downside) but can be a mixture of units(ex: a Gao-Rael, Kamael, and Sakiel; three Gao-Raels or three Kamael or three Sakiel).
marksman rifle (Ariadna)
Which is also going to be making an appearance with new units for the upcoming book. Svalarheima and Tien Shan are pretty much guaranteed to be getting them for the Nisses and GĆilĂĄng unit types.
and new rather standard, yet interesting units.
Which primarily went to subfactions that were lacking anything really approaching "variety".
How can anyone claim it is fine to release units that do not offer anything to a player, but on the other hand have something that is simply game changing ? If we buy the pretence of "not currently compatible with the game", why was there a rush to release them at all?
Probably because Neoterra was a faction that basically had one or two "lists" that would get used. Bolts are new and primarily intended for that subfaction.
It just blows my mind when people claim Corvus Belli is somehow infallible and always delivers. Was I imagining the debate on the new cast technique that was only few pages back?
I think you are imagining some kind of debate on the "new cast technique". If you're referring to 3D sculpting etc...that's a different barrel of monkeys.
Am I imagining that no one is playing Paradiso missions, even though it is relatively fresh release?
What issue you have with the releases? you seem to be quite happy about the units you described, or you mean something about the Bolts?
Then yes CB had to deliver another unit for Neotera, even if it is released not in its full potential, I would not ask you to buy the excuse, its not something I would try to sell to you, it is what it is, if you do not believe it, I am afraid, there is nothing I can do to persuade you other than say you it is as they say.
Now the different weapons size is indeed odd, Paradiso missions I do not get you? they are campaign system, while ITS is far better for stand alone games.
They do. Lack of infiltrators also hurt them. Tohaa have their weaknesses too. But Corvus introduced something new to the game, why Bolts or Bipandra cannot fall in the same reasoning? They have live data base for rules, I simply cannot buy the pretence it is because they aren't willing to offset the meta. Unless the expansion is bigger and more complex than I give them credit for.
Probably because Neoterra was a faction that basically had one or two "lists" that would get used. Bolts are new and primarily intended for that subfaction.
Though it remains a controversial issue, as Fusiliers do their role, only cheaper and could continue to do so until the new expansion. I'm aware your stance on them. Bipandra also fits in the MO.
I agree with Knight here; there's no real use for Bolts how they're currently written. The missile launcher is fun, but any list that can take the FUS ML which is significantly cheaper and nearly as good.
I buy them to paint, since I like the models and play NCA, but I can't imagine actually fielding them as themselves until some significant change in their usefulness occurs.
I was kinda/sorta right. It got introduced before Paradiso, but it was not until Paradiso that the rules were published in a book.
Which all have some kind of downside.

It's not a question of the meta but also the core mechanics and ITS.
And the expansion is bigger than you're giving them credit for. This isn't Campaign Paradiso sized, it's Human Sphere sized.
Probably because Neoterra was a faction that basically had one or two "lists" that would get used. Bolts are new and primarily intended for that subfaction.

Fusiliers might do their role, but Fusiliers are also AVA 5 in Neoterra. while Bolts are AVA Total.
What you need to understand is that Corvus Belli's original design idea for the PanO Sectorials is that each of the Sectorials was going to have some kind of "unique Fusilier" type while Fusiliers were going to be secondary.
Auxilia were the original attempt at that...but clearly they did not work too well as an option.
TBH an added weapon option or two (along with new sculpts - sticking spec ops helmets on old fusiliers makes for an improvement and that's saying something!) would make auxilia very, very interesting.
Would it make them even better than they are now? Meh, I know they're pretty damn good as is but they only get so good up close - that flamebot is nasty. giving the aux a longer ranged weapon (preferably something with an 8" or even 12" minimum to their optimum range band) means either the gun is useful, or the flamebot - not both.
up close, a CR beats an HMG nine times out of ten, for example (and never mind an MSR!).
Bolts being MI with some goodies means they will inherently never be a FUS alternative - too expensive!
They're similar to Bagh-Mari, not FUS/AR.
outside of CA/Aleph I'm not ever taking a ~20pts ordermonkey...
Kamau (cheaper with WIP 13, rifle, 4-4) and NeoTerra has Deva with amazing WIP 15 and BTS -3 for few points more. Bolt hacker is likely to be a second pick, if you're going with something like Fusiliers, MSV deva and few Bolts with heavy weapons.
I am going to proxy them as Kamau until the new book.
Bipandra and Bolt are for me a sad joke (without speeking of the bad overall quality of the bolt, that i've already spoken about)
rulewise they are here just to sit and wait for the next book
and this make no sense from an business point of view and from an gamedesigner point of view
not one min/maxed list will field them, maybe funlist, because you can like the mini but that all.
neotera need cheap fireteam to go with its expenssive toy (suiss guard - aquila - TAG) and cheap specialsit for objectives, for those two roles fusilliers are better
the only thing I could think of is the need of more than 5 troops, there i could fiels bolt after fusilliers but:
who play 2 group list in neoterra ? Who need a second fireteam in neoterra ?
About the recent news: it seems that Giraldez only paint the Kum riders and maybe some free hand (the clipsos free hand is fabulous) because the level is very low (druze and morat)
Knight wrote: Unless the expansion is bigger and more complex than I give them credit for.
You should wait and see the results before you give your hypothetical credit.
CB never let us down, always rectified mistakes they did and as past experiences have shown, there are always reasons behind decisions.
I guess you'll need to define "us". I sure do not consider Bipandra and Bolts an example of a good practice. ITS is another case, yes, we're not a big community, however I much prefer to play rules someone else has written (based on Dire Foes missions). I think another part of community prefers YAMS. Inconsistency between models (mainly scales between old and new models, as well as the price on new Morat starter), bases (now, I consider it rather minor thing). I do love what CB is producing and they are still a company I hold in high regard, however there simply are areas where I find them making unneeded discord. I simply cannot stand still on certain issues I find them to be false, even, if "it's your (my) meta, not CB".
Yah as a new NeoTerra player; the bolts profile brings nothing but a tear down one's eye.
Storm, I think you may be fighting an uphill battle. The bolts in context to the options available for NeoTerra players is depressing given the quality of the models.
I for one (like many) made the decision to purchased them without hesitation based on the quality of the models alone, but it certainly doesn't excuse the profile given and the "you'll just have to wait and hope for better next time" treatment. I think let's be honest and call "a spade, a spade" it was a mistake on CB's part to release them without any meaningful purpose to the options already available to NeoTerra players. Fusiliers will always win out time and time again if you want to run a link team; hacker? the deva will certainly win out... it's just frustrating....
back to news and rumors any word on the 'big' april annoucement? (or was that the base change.......)
The "Big April Announcement" is, as I've mentioned several times previously both here and on the official Infinity forums, this coming weekend.
We've known for awhile that the announcement is slated for "between the 26th and 28th", which is Saturday through next Monday.
In regards to the Bolts: The profile is fine. The simple fact is that the profile we got is the "sanitized current edition profile", not the profile for them in the next book...which is introducing/revamping mechanics.
We saw this same furor in regards to Link Teams with Human Sphere.

As part of the group of people that play with friends, focusing on having some beers and having a good time with a bitchin' game and cool models, I always get a little head-scratchy over the rules frothing.

Meh, the versatility in a link is actually worth the .5 SWCIMO. Especially in what is otherwise a rather SWC-light link team. I agree it's an anomaly, though.

I felt the same way when looking at a thread in the video games section. I'd been perfectly happy making my way through the game, humming to myself happily while I play and killing stuff. Suddenly I'm reading about 'tiered' builds, about the PVP meta-game, and the new massive imbalances and the like that have totally ruined the game - it's a level of complexity that I didn't even know existed! But, I think just because I don't want to go down into that level of complexity and balance, into the guts of how the game works, doesn't mean it doesn't exist - and I suppose it's something that Infinity has had it at some point(?!)
So, while I'm not really bothered about some of these things mentioned above, at the same time I think it's important that they get an airing if there are indeed fundamental dangers to how some people play the game.
Knight wrote: My perception also lead me to believe that overall people prefer to play YAMS, something I personally do not consider to be very fun and very monotone, yet concede that it is more balanced.
This is definitely not the case in the American northwest. ITS is the standard out here for pickup games. From what I read on forums, it has become so in most other places too, 2014 flaws and all.
YAMS has pretty much fallen by the wayside, probably because it's pretty monotone as you mention.
You know, if an Infinity community group really wants to do the rest of the player base a favor, publishing little packets of linked, themed missions with cool rules would be wonderful. The group up here in Seattle have talked about doing exactly this and are slowly approaching it (having recently playtested rules for mass-TAG combat, arena combat, bunker/boarding action combat, and some of deflatermouse's great missions). If anyone out there is looking for a way to make one's fellow Infinity nerds super happy, write and publish scenarios!

Sorry if this has been addressed since, but has there been any idea of when this KS might hit?

Interesting. Official forums? I still believe there's higher interest in YAMS. Though ITS varies, perhaps not surprising to find out that certain communities favour specific missions for their pick up. How do you guys in the US manage it? Are missions pre-determined, do you talk about the type of a ITS mission on the spot and then write a list?

Mind dropping me scenarios, once they're all finished? Here, on the sub forum or PM, either way is fine. I'm mostly looking for new missions.
Actually starting a thread in the sub-forum for scenarios would be a really cool thing to do...
Knight, in the US the TO usually announces the list of scenarios to be used in advance of the tournament,, like days or weeks before, at least that is the way around here. Also the time allowed per round etc...
And speaking of scenarios, we are supposed to get new ITS scenarios at some point. I believe the number was 4 more. Anyone hear a timeline on that?
What do you play for your preferred pick up and play format? Do you have preferred types of scenarios? Do you make a list in advance or on the fly?
When it comes to TO/events, we do the same. Probably very lenient with time.
I know there was "Patient Zero" on the sneak peak preview. I was rather intrigued by the name only. I hope the big announcement wont be creating more hype based on something that will happen in the future.
There is a scenario thread on the official forum. Sadly, the guy who made the first post disappeared and a mod hasn't updated the links so none of them work. I managed to find the links to some of the more fun ones on the 2nd page of that thread, and a couple of other people have done the same there so might be worth a look!
So, here's a thought, why don't we go toss up a post down in our little Infinity section and toss around some ideas for custom scenarios and games. Pool some ideas of our own and see if we can whip up some interesting missions?
Obviously it isn't anything remotely close to official, but if we can playtest a few and find them fun, we could put them up for other folks to use?

We do it how CB suggest we do it, well here anyways. Meetup, decised on mission, tell what faction/subfaction we are playing, them write are list. Unlike someother games with set play styles for each faction you don't have to worry about the other guy write his list to counter yours. Well unless your predictable with your amry list, but thing it really doesn't matter as he know what you bring anyways.
For tournaments here in my area, it is list in advance, but for casual play in my group it is more or less mix and match... sort of a what do I want to play tonight, but list is done before missions etc are set.
So how quick to post info will BoW be anyway? As I recall, the Spanish forum was a bit, erm, lazy, about posting news the last time there was an event. I hope don't have to wait until Sunday night/Monday for the news.
I really want to see what those Infinity dropships may look like.
Edit: However, Bostria's presentation is at 5:30pm (11:30am EST) until 7:00pm on Sunday. We may not get much news until Monday. :(

The group up here in Seattle have talked about doing exactly this and are slowly approaching it (having recently playtested rules for mass-TAG combat, arena combat, bunker/boarding action combat, and some of deflatermouse's great missions). If anyone out there is looking for a way to make one's fellow Infinity nerds super happy, write and publish scenarios!
Mind dropping me scenarios, once they're all finished? Here, on the sub forum or PM, either way is fine. I'm mostly looking for new missions.
Sure, happy to send you the missions once we're done! I'll also be posting them in the forums here of course.
We also play a version of Seize the Beacons (from ITS 2013) with half the table being a bunker represented by Space Hulk tiles and the other half open territory. Objectives are all in the bunker part. It's tons of fun, and totally changes the game (boarding shotguns are great in there).
When we've got time to pre-arranged games we often play custom scenarios, like rescues, heists, escort missions, etc. Paradiso games get played every few weeks, but the heavy emphasis on specialists is a bit wearying.
As for managing pickup games with ITS, we tend to build our lists just like we do for an ITS tourney: one for objectives, one for straight smash-ups. Using a 12-XP Specop has also become pretty standard around here. And even "killfest" games tend to use the Annihilation scenario, as the Classified objectives and strategic value of keeping troops alive makes it more interesting than the static firefights which no-scenario games tend to degenerate into.
YAMS was the default here until we started playing ITS last year. YAMS is just... well, kinda boring after a while. We tend to prefer more narrative, even in pickup games. Even ITS scenarios have just enough narrative to get by and can become a bit "gamey" as others have pointed out.
Now if someone revamped YAMS to have some more-exciting objectives, I would love to give it more play. But only so many times can one kill the damned civvie.
I play a mix of straight-up games, YAMS, Paradiso, and narrative games. There are a lot of player-made scenarios on the Infinity forum, am in the process of updating all the links for those at the moment with PsychoticStorm, as it really needs doing!
If I don't know about your concerns they're not likely to be fixed...
Hey IJW, I don't mean to knock your work. It used YAMS quite happily for a year or so, and appreciate the effort you put into it. Thank you for doing that for the good of the Infinity community!
YAMS is very well-balanced. But after quite a few games the objectives felt a bit too arbitrary and un-narrative. That could also be true of static missions like ITS: the 2013 set got a bit old after a year's play too. I'll make some comments on your thread with ideas that players around here floated for enhancing the way that separate objectives can link together to tell a story.
Also: Were you behind the NUSU tournament special-table rules? Those have been used a lot here in Seattle for various things, especially the bunker rules.
Anyways, sorry if that came off rude. YAMS is really good player-generated material that can eventually become something even better.
Judging from facebook, the BOW guys are mostly wandering round taking pictures of the cosplayers at the moment. There's some tournament pics but not big news yet.
Haven't been following the news or thread. What's expected to be announced?
I'm actually going to pickup a giant order of micro art studio terrain for various scifi games. I'm just super tired of gothic and dark terrain being used at the store.
Also from a pic of the event from the main forums, may's releases are a 4-man box of Santiago Knights, Raiden with HRL, 2 Interventors, Agema with MSR and Kazak sniper. And do you think that means v3 at GenCon or for XMas?
GiraffeX wrote: Hmm I just picked up all three rule books, I hope they aren't all going to become redundant with the new edition
Depends on the contents of the new rulebook. If they don't pull all lists, weapon and unit profiles into one book, then the old books still have their use for those. If they do pull them all into one book... I guess you've got the pretty art and fluff still. That's why people buy the rulebooks anyway considering the rules are not only free online, but there's a fan edit that makes them better laid out.
Alright, Yu Jing appears to be getting new HI that mounts TAG-scale weaponry. And the best part... they are armed with knives for close combat instead of CCWs. If they make it through without any levels in MA, then I will be happy. It's like CB read my mind and are delivering unto me the things of my wish list. Now I just need an ADHI and I will die a happy man.
Here's to hoping they condense everything into one book at least. I hate hunting through mutliple books for profiles and rules. I'd pay more for a big hardcover with everything in it.
Well, the rules don't need to change much, but there are plenty of bits and bobs that do need updating. I wouldn't consider reworking some point costs, a few usability tweaks to close combat and a few other bits (like the ITS initiative system) to be a large change.
Mostly they just need to integrate errata/FAQ stuff, fix some over/under-costed stuff (HMGs need a price bump, MULTI weapons need some love), tweak some units to have a more clear battlefield role (and a suitable price), and maybe fix close combat in to something less niche (or, alternatively, make it a lot cheaper on non-specialists). Oh and terrain rules that aren't .
But I definitely hope it condenses the material in to one place. Though considering how much was added in Human Sphere and Paradiso, that may start bloating things too much. But having rules for links and sectorial in core would be nice. And for that to work they need to have all the units. They may have to just leave army lists out and publish consolidated, fixed lists online at this point.
Edit - Seems that retreat and LoL will at least be getting a second look. So there definitely will be changes. I think they may have meant that we should expect the new edition to still play like Infinity (i.e. ARO, Face to Face rolls, uses D20's, etc.).
I bought all 3 books a few months back, they're brilliant and beautiful enough that I'm happy to own them regardless. A V3 with full rules and lists would be very welcome.
Interventor redesign(male and female) and the "Fast Panda" in between. Fast Panda looks to be a mobile repeater.
Concept art of a new Yu Jing infantry type called "Terracotta Soldiers". Likely for the Invincible Army Sectorial.
Concept art of another Yu Jing HI type called "Yan Huo Invincibles Fire Support Heavy Regiment".
New type of Kazak, "Ambushers".
Tankhunter. Looks like a redesign with the Autocannon having a different appearance.
Looks to be new Antipodes! Hooray!
New Ghazi concept art.
Some kind of new Tohaa model 3D sculpt. Again labeled "Ambusher".
Squalo TAG redesign for PanO.
Thamyris.
WarCor model; purportedly a special edition model for WarCors.
New Combined Army unit for the EI Sectorial called a "Unidron". These are the Line Troops of the EI Sectorial.
If they really did have that book at Gencon... would pretty well have to buy it. For christmas, I could probably resist. Something about seeing people in person that tricks you into buying stuff!
I guess new Interventors are cool, but I've always been more of a Reverend Custodier kinda guy.
Well not everybody plays a sectorial, or do they? I wouldn't really know, I still only have a cursory knowledge of this game. I just mean if I were playing vanilla Nomads, I'd want the custodiers.
GrimDork wrote: Well not everybody plays a sectorial, or do they?
It depends on the faction, but Nomads are one of the factions where most people choose to go Sectorial.
I have a feeling though that 3rd Edition is going to make Sectorials a lot more attractive compared to vanilla, simply because from the reports today we are going to see alterations to SWC, points costs, and profiles in general.
Ahh, well enough, I bow to your wisdom in this matter
I'll admit that I would probably play corregidor if I weren't already working on on Bakunin, I just didn't know if some of the other factions had attractive combos only accessible to 'nilla. Plus link teams, those seem to have a lot of tricks on a per-unit basis like a Custodier triad getting to shoot two markers per action or a high WP burst 2 flash pulse, and can help make gimpy cheerleaders into something more useful and survivable.

I highly advise against doing that...I'm still, for all intents and purposes, a newbie. It's just that I have lurked long enough in relation to Infinity to get a bit of insight through osmosis.

Pretty much all factions have some attractive combos only accessible to Vanilla, but that does not automatically mean that Vanilla is better than Sectorials(same as Link Teams in Sectorials not automatically invalidating Vanilla). It's a weird balance as it depends primarily upon the faction you're discussing.
Yeah, the game seems a tricky beast. Fortunately, I feel that I'm doing Infinity "right" -- getting the models I like and sorting out the game stuff later

Quoting the two biggest things to bring them over to the next page.
Interesting.. I commented about a big rules update seemingly being hinted at last gencon in a video and was told by folks in this thread that I was wrong and reading too much into it. I guess I wasn't.
New rules.
It was almost guaranteed to happen.
Every time I get into a new game the rules get renewed, just after I've bought all the books.
This is the 5th game system in a row it's happened to.

Welcome to Infinity
If it makes you feel better, you probably will not have to buy new books.
Any word on new Aleph stuff?
Just Thamyris, the Steel Phalanx "Journalist", concept art as far as I saw. We do know that they are getting a new Sectorial in the form of the "Special Situations Section" which is the Black Ops of ALEPH. Things like the Dasyu would be prevalent.
I'm hoping for Gencon, so I'll have a good excuse to pick one up. The other logical date might be christmas? I don't think anyone has said anything other than speculation though so no help.
GenCon is traditionally when they have "presale" stuff, meaning you can get it in limited numbers and then it gets released around Christmas...sooo that's possible, but unlikely for a rules set.
Ehh, I figure being there in person with extra saved cash for just such an opportunity means I'm going to buy something from any vendor that I go there specifically to see, I just figure the rulebook would be as good a thing as any to buy with said monies. Better to curb my enthusiasm now though, so I don't get disappointed, I'm sure they'll have some nice Nomad stuff tucked away somewhere.

You could do what I do.. which is only to break into a new game that doesn't have downloadable books for free only right after edition swaps after getting burned a couple times with that (Heavy Gear and FOW... I'm looking at you!). I got back into Heavy Gear that way and got into 40k that way back in 3rd edition. I'll likely pick up the rulebook just to give it a whirl when it comes out since I know it'll be useful for a few years.
