So, with the release of the first 5th edition codex's, lets have a look at the effort GW has put into them

Chaos Daemons 88 Numbered Pages
Space Marines: 144 Numbered Pages
Imperial Guard: 104 Numbered Pages
Space Wolves: 96 Numbered Pages.

Well Blow me down, Ultrasmurfs get the most pages. 40 More than Space Wolves and 56 More than Chaos Dæmons. No surprise there. We all know GW hates everything except Ultrasmurfs (lets be honest, were it not for the legacy players they would sell nothing but Space Marines Hurrrr) but I wish they could be just a LiTTLE more subtle about it

I guess the reason is partially that there was more fluff and more stories about SM from the beginning than about other races. And the C:SM is not only about Ultramarines, it has fluff about many other chapters, too, so there is some need for more pages. I mean, the Imperial Fists and other chapters of that kind get a little page in the C:SM while the Spess Wolves get a whole codex of their own, you should be happy about it.

Other chapters comprise about 10 pages of Codex: Ultramarines + Vulkan

Yeah, I, too, dislike the fact that the Ultramarines take so many pages in a codex that is meant for all codex chapters. Especially with their half dozen of special characters.

Bias?

Give me a break. They've got to have a consistent image for each race. For Marines, they chose the most basic of Chapters that represents what most Chapters are.

I really don't see what the big deal is?

I'm just bitter that Ultras get more love than all the other Armies put together

I'm sure the other races have their own army that is over used as well (Usually the one on the box). Ultramarines just seems more because of how much more effort they put into Space Marines. But those other ones generally don't get huge sections in codices either so it might be true

Edit: I guess they didn't need that page about how Calgar punched a hole right through the Avatar after it stabbed his shoulder, he also had to run right through the rest of the Eldar army just to get to it.

Originally, it was going to be Codex: Ultramarines (literally), but they slammed in all the other Chapters at the last minute. It was like they suddenly remembered that their main seller was the Codex Astartes, not the Smurfs themselves.

Really? Wasn't aware of that. Would've been a damn shame. The part of the book I look at most of the time (when I'm not looking at the army list) is the little section about the different chapters, their armor colours and their heraldry. Only Ultramarines would've made the book rather uninteresting from the fluff/hobby part viewpoint, I think.

I don't even understand why Ultrasmurfs are popular... I like them best when they are smooshy red bits on the ends of choppas/witchblades... If only people would give ultrasmurfs a rest, the other (more interesting) races could get the attention that they deserve.

The same can be argued about SMs as a whole, including the Space Wolves. All its been since 5th is a Daemon codex that screwed the CSM codex, and imperium armies.

Yawn.

Yeah, welcome to 2008, right?

Though if you wanted to compare the sales of the armies to page count, I think the Marines aren't getting enough pages.

Pfft, I play Sisters. Our last `Codex' focused on a different Imperial force altogether (the Inquisition), so we have not had any real fluff since second edition Off the top of my head, I believe we also had a page, which was mostly filled by an illustration, and I had to pay for mine.

Oh god another why does everyone like space marines more then race x. First off the codex does have more then just ultramarines, second, marines sell the best, so they should get the most attention. Thirdly, you are arguing about why your little toy soldiers arent getting as much attention.

Chaos Daemons: boring, they should have added this to the chaos codex.
Imperial Guard: hurf durf die for the emperor and tanks. how much do you need to know.
Space Wolves: should be at least 500 pages long.

It's not all Ultras. There's a lot of fluff in there for other chapters taking up that space.

And honestly, this is the nitpickyest thread I've seen this side of Warseer. Find better things to whine about.

Yeah. They should've called it Codex: Everyone Else Who Is Male that isn't Spiky or Furry or Vampirey or Robe Wearing or Fanatically Religious.

I guess that wouldn't fit on the cover with the font they use....

Pat that askala, O-H-I hate this stupid state

The current CSM codex is also 104 pages. I dont like it as much as everyone who doesnt play SM but the thing is we could complain or beat their heads in the ground when we play them. I vote for the latter.

There is even a little box on page 127 that goes;
"ULTRAMARINES AND OTHER CHAPTERS: This armylist is based first and foremost around the Ultramarines, but can also be used to collect an army that follows the Codex Astartes."

Funny how 99% of all space marines can be written off in one sentence, isn't it?
