I left for the Army about 8 months ago. My wife and kids stayed behind while I conducted training and got settled. After they moved out here we started unpacking and getting settled into our new house. A week ago I found out that a couple fellow soldiers play 40K and I got pumped. I started going through a couple unpacked boxes, looking for mmy White Scars army that I have been collecting since I was 14 (Im 27 now). I asked her about it and she told me that the kids got into it and she had to throw a few out. I asked her where the rest of them were and she pulled a shoe box out from the attic. Heres where it gets good... I HAD 9862 MODELED POINTS! (I know because I had an un-fluffed army list saved on my computer) Inside the box was 3 LS with broken stands, 2 bikes and about a dozen individual SM. So now, my brothers and sisters, I am starting a new army for the first time in 13 years. Raise your voices and fire a bolter shell in the air for my lost bretheren.

You might want to start an army with the kids, so they see what a love of labor it is! Not to mention the shared family hobby experience. Your kids will love customizing their own armies, spending hours laboring over the perfect paint job!

and on the other hand, your wife can't complain about you buying "toy soldiers" because she threw your stuff out.

I'd go with the Space Wolf lone wolf tradition. When the rest of the squad gets wiped out they paint the names of their fallen brothers on their armor and go forth to redeem their honor. A good way to remember the fallen white scars.

I can relate. I lost an 8,000 point Eldar army including an armorcast revenant titan because some jerkwad couldn't be bothered to properly secure his spare tire and I crashed into it. Please, don't jump on the Tyranid bandwagon, it's pathetic. Perhaps Blood Angels would be a good army to start on, they are shaping up to be fast attack monsters.

Friend of mine had his Blood Angels, Chaos and all his Necromunda models thrown away by his step mother when they moved to another country (and he stayed behind here). He only has his three 1st Ed Grey Knights, 5 Terminators, old lead BA Dread and... I think that was it... left.

The most I've ever "lost" was just short of 1000pts and I was devastated. I can only imagine how loosing 9 times that could feel, especially after having them for so long.
