After looking at autocannon, I thought of this:

Autopistol:
12" S5 AP5 type: Pistol

Autorifle
24" S5 AP5 Type: rapid fire

Autogun
18" S6 AP4 Type: assault 2

Learn your WH40K history. Auto weapons were interchangeable rules wise with lasguns since 3rd ed. Autopistol= Laz pistol and Autogun = Lasgun.

Those are interchangeable. Obviously an Autocannon is not interchangeable since its still in the codex. But the Autogun and Autopistol are for all intensive purposes lasguns and las pistols. Go download an old 3rd ed guard codex if you don't believe me.

Change the names to something else, or not, its your idea.

Auto pistols and auto guns have been around forever in the 40k universe. being similar to Lasguns and Laspistols etc which is why they were removed.

I reckon with these that they are too close to Bolt weapons, being that autocannons fire shells rather than bullets. Strength + plus any points buff why would I take one for my officers over a BP BG or even a PP (yeah I know all about gets hot but thats a small drawback).

the idea, red. is that it's supposed to be new guns.

I suppose, auto could be replaced with assault or something.

take a look at the necromunda rule/source book. I think ou can download for free from GW's site. They have great explanations on rules and stuff for lots of different types of guns and special ammo. Hope this helps!

Well, fluff issues aside, I think these weapons are over the top. It would seem to me that Mr/Ms/Mrs Captain Solon is new to the hobby and is rather anxious to invent new things. I can, of course, applaud the idea. However, I think that the majority of his ideas, thus far, have been far too spastic and over the top.

Their was a difference between Las and Auto weapons, way back in Necromunda, Rogue Trader, and before that. The main difference, as I remember, was that Las weapons were far more reliable and ammunition plentiful (just had to plug 'em in to recharge!) while Auto weapons caused more debilitating injuries.

In more recent fluff, depending on what writer you're reading, Las weapons are also far more devastating, and I like the idea that Las technology is far more grievous than anachronistic modern technology.

Call them slug throwers??

In Fire Warrior (PS2 - I know the game was awful . . .) an Autogun was just an Assault Rifle. From all information I have read Autogun / pistol are about equal to Lasgun / Pistol but are slug-throwers instead of Las.

And if you ask a question that the answer is, to them laughable obvious, whether to break the ice, or get on the same page as them, you will be shredded.
Just look at the comments above. You've got the blatant ass remark, the condescending snooty tool bag remark, the why bother to come here remark, and the one guy that is nice that is almost completely drowned out. You should almost take it as a compliment that you stir such ire, have you ever seen a homeless guy defend a piece of sidewalk? Its all he has, and its not even really his. He's just nothing without it.

An autogun is similar to a modern day assault rifle, as others have said (I think there are some differences; a modern day assault rifle would probably just be called a type of "stubber").

So, interesting line of thought, but one already explored.

Seriously you would have to REALLY justify a S:5 hit since a mini rocket propelled gernade fired from a giant human oh-my-god-the-horror super soldier is only a S:4.
Officers in the IG aren't as valuable as you give them credit for.

In terms of Game balance it wouldn't work.

In terms of Fluff it wouldn't work.

It doesn't fit any of the armies as they are shown.

It simply doesn't belong in the Grim Dark Universe.

Despite what everyone is saying, I LIKE the idea. Having a solid slug weapon, like a stubber, would fit, as they already mount a stubber on tanks. Just drop the strength, to lets say 3-4, and the ap to 4, kinda like a hell pistol. Rename them stub______ (insert weapon here), and call it good. And Make it so only officers and/ or elite units could take them. Good idea, just need to expand on it.

Solon, what people are saying is that Autoguns/pistols have had rules before, and in essence, fluffwise they've been established as doing similar damage as a Lasgun.

And yes, I don't think it's a good idea, IMHO.

Autoguns/pistols are believed to be the same strength as a small calibre handgun or rifle of today's sort. An autogun/pistol are both weak, fire bullets that are just small slugs, and are overall very low strength.

This is why they are interchangeable with lasweapons.

Obviously, since an autocannon is firing slugs and a lascannon is firing a highly concentrated laser, there is a difference.

They would be cool on veterans! I like the idea for a smaller elite army/

I don't think dakka mods would ban you for simply posting your ideas, however far fetched or perfectly sensible others may or may not find them.

Ontopic: Auto guns are, fluffwise, and game play wise, inferior and were already in fluff/gameplay prior to the posting of your idea. As others have said, IG gradually upgraded most autoguns and their variants to lasguns and their variants. No matter how OTT or perfectally sensible your suggestions are, I can appreciate and enjoy your creativity and enthusiasm regarding the suggestions.

While I think ST6 Auto weapons is over the top, you should tell some of the rest of the story.

2nd Edition
Laspistol was -1 to hit at long range.
Auto-pistol was -1 to armor save.

Autoguns had a 12"-32" range with a -1 to armor save
Lasguns were 12"-24" with no minus to armor save

Auto-cannons were awesome 0"-20"/20"-72" ST8 Damage D6 and -3 to armor save plus "sustained fire"( if you hit and wound you keep shooting)
Las-cannon was 0"-20"/20"-60" ST9 2D6 Damage and -6 to armor save

At one time in 40K history that was a big difference. The two were in no way interchangeable. Too bad really.

If you want powerful weapons, then take Plasma Pistols, Plasma Guns, and Plasma Cannons. Autoguns are so 20th century...

But yeah. Autopistols, autoguns, autorifles, etc have been explained as being similar in stopping power and firing capabilities of lasguns/laspistols.

Thus, no need for them.

Just to be pedantic: I'm pretty sure that the Proposed Rules forum is specifically for nonsensical stuff. I mean have you ever seen a thread in which something was proposed, which surprised and delighted people with its utility and perspicacity, and subsequently was adopted in a widespread manner?

It's not the nonsensical stuff part.

It's the "almost every day" part. Just make one thread and continuously add to it.
