So... who here has played it? If you don't know what it is, League of Legends is a free-to-play game made by the guys who invented DotA. (Defense of the Ancients, only the single most popular Warcraft 3 mod ever made, still played years after the game's release) Basically there's 2 teams of 3 or 5 heroes each, and the goal is to destroy the enemy base. It kinda plays out like a top down version of WoW's pvp at its best, mixed with an RTS. There are a lot of heroes to choose from with a lot of variation between them; no 2 are exactly the same.

Now it's completely free to play. However there's a weekly rotation of which heroes are free to use, so if you have a favorite and they're out of rotation you're out of luck. You can permanently unlock heroes either by buying Riot Points for actual cash, or with Influence Points which you earn by playing. Don't let that put you off though, because there are a lot of good heroes and a lot of the heroes are cheap to unlock. (for example, one of my favorites only costs 450 IP, which you'll earn after like 4 or 5 games. Pretty painless and so far I haven't shelled out a dime)
You can also unlock alternate costumes for your heroes, runes to boost stats (extremely cheap IP-wise, so still not a cash grab by any stretch) boosts to XP and IP gain (only through cash) and so on. Overall I think it's a pretty cool system, and they don't unbalance the game by making all the 'good gak' cost money. Really fun game, a lot of character in the heroes too. I highly recommend you all go check it out.

I play every now and then. It's a really good game. It's everything I wanted DotA to be. The fact that I can play completely free is a bonus as well.

They are doing the free to play thing better than most. I'm fully willing to accept a game that allows me to purchase additional content or new characters or something, but games that are filled with trying to get me to purchase scrolls to increase grinding speed, potions that I NEED, etc just make me angry.

Yeah that's why I generally avoid free-to-play games... This one's awesome though. I have to catch my bus downtown for college soon; guess what I'm doing until then?

Free to play can work out pretty well with micro-transactions like this one.

Too bad they just missed the free hero weekend though.

Malzahar and yeh he's pretty cool.

He's my favorite so far, although Yi is pretty nasty once he gets going... With Wuju Style activated he rips through turrets like paper, and his first ability makes clearing entire waves of minions simple and fast. If he were slightly better at actual pvp I would consider him almost OP, but he has no way to stop the enemy from fleeing without outside help. In fact, I generally have trouble with pvp... I don't know what it is I'm doing wrong, maybe itemization? All I know is if it's me vs another champion, typically it's me who dies. >.<

I play League. I bounce between Twitch, Akali, and Yi right now. Twitch is fun but he's a glass cannon. Tons of damage but if somebody gets the jump on you odds are your dead. As for improving your survivability with the pvp part who are you using so we can try and give some tips?

Well I think as far as Yi goes lifesteal really becomes his survivability. I might as well throw out the ones I play as well. Usually I end up playing the support as if I'm a physical non ranged DPS I usually go really really bad, with the exception of Mordekaiser which is alright

Ones I play as at the moment are Janna, Sona and Ashe although I'll ocassionally play Teemo, Miss Fortune or Evelyn. But I change champs really often.

Sona was a bit of fun before she came on rotation (I brought her about 30mins after she came out). Only champ I've played that could actually scare some players with her taunt as she just plays a few angry notes. Generally they won't care at all for other champs, but that early in her release the taunt could be confused with an attack.

Except for the fact that it's made by the people who made DotA, now free of the limits of Warcraft 3's engines, and they've made it even better? (according to everyone I've ever asked who's played both games)

As far as who I use, I think I'll be maining as Yi until someone else I like goes on rotation or I somehow manage to get enough points for Malzahar.

If you like Yi should give Olaf a go next time he's on rotation.

I'm not too bad with Pantheon either, now that I've played him a couple times. Too bad I suck with Nunu because a capped Nunu will rock the boat. Seriously, he's unstoppable... @_@ Only solution is to win before he gets that far.

Been having fun with Zilean lately as well. The apparent change to Pantheon's ult is pretty nice as well (his ult is he leaps into the air then lands at a target location on the map dealing damage, it used to have a circle where he was going to land, doesn't seem to appear anymore).

I wonder what Lux is going to be like though or what Evelyn would be like after the buff they're supposed to be giving her. Might not be a complete waste of points after all.

Problem at the moment is I have 4000+IP but I don't know what to spend it on...

Could finally figure out a main and get runes for it, then again could get a couple of champs >_>

I just noticed that they changed Janna's voice.

I've been having a lot of fun with Yi, especially now that I have a solid item build for him. I also lane with someone else now instead of going mid, and I've been working on trying to coordinate my teammates when no other 'leader figure' emerges.

It's official, this week's rotation sucks. I hate Teemo beyond any expression of words... Good thing I can just keep playing Yi.

I've played Teemo in a Practice game stacking Phantom Dancers for the lols, should try it sometime. Moves at around 620ish and downs most tank champs in 10 secs tops as he's attacking at the max attack speed and has a critical rate of somewhere around 90%.

Not viable in a real game though which is disappointing. Still hilarious to watch it zoom across the map, kill the dragon, enter the bottom lane take out everyone there and down a tower or two before vanishing into the jungle again. You need to use the speed and the minions though because you have no survivability outside of the dodge chance from the Phantom Dancers which I think is around 60-65%.


As for the rotation it's alright I guess. Has some good, somewhat considered OP, champs in there Jax, Garen, Shen. No idea why they've been spamming Heimerdinger though. He used to be good when he could make three turrets, but after the recent nerf he' more or less average now. I'm interested to see what Eve will now be like with the changes to her in the patch, basically a rebuild almost. Teemo got some changes too which were kind of strange.
Also for the patch release notes for the nerfs and buffs, Urgot's had to be the funniest ("Removed recommended tag". I'm waiting to see if they fix up the bug with Pantheon's ult or if it's really just a change.

As for Lux, liked the spotlight and have around 6000ish IP sitting around so kind of tempted to buy her to try her out. But I basically do this every time a new champ comes out (except Swain and Urgot (well maybe Swain for a moment because of the laser bird))

I've been getting used to Nidalee, tired of Ezreal and Twitch. I have to take a shower every match after using Mordekaiser.

I play with a few friends of mine, and one plays Cho, the other plays carries primarily, I like Nunu and Alistar (and Nasus)

Alistar dominated a game I played, he had like 27 assists... Others got the kill but we knew who was responsible. Teemo f***ed some gak up too, he ended up with the most actual kills. Damn poison...

Syph and Vadem play, that's actually surprising.

Brought Lux today and she seems to be fun. For some reason the recommended build suggests Rylai's though. The problem I see with it is that it slows for only 2 seconds. Q snares for the same amount, W only hits allies and I'm not sure if it stuns with E really just leaving the reduced effect on her ult. >_>

Also the spotlight was right, with a tiny bit of cool down reduction runes my ult refreshed in 38 seconds at level 3.
Not worth spamming though I see it more as Ashe's ult minus the stun and slight slow. Really I guess I use it on low health runners.

I'm only level 26 though.

Man I just stumbled upon this...and it made me jealous I'm in a deployed location so I haven't been able to play for like 4 months only 2 more to go!!!...great free game!!! I love to play as Warwick he is a jungle master early and near unstoppable 1v1 late in game. My other Favorite is Karthus was terrible with him when I first tried him out and stopped for awhile then I picked him up again determined to use him as the super nuker I know him to be...and the pay off was oh so good Can't wait to get back into it when I get back even though I'll be a bit rusty. My username is same on LoL as here, maybe I'll see you guys in 2!!!!
