Has anyone made any themed Apocalypse ally armies? Most of what I've seen have just been 2 armies that people have put together and come up with some story as to why they are working together.
But I have seen a few armies where the owner actually converted the allies to work together or gave them a theme. For Instance I saw a army that was Orks allied with Necrons, the player represented his necrons by putting Necron parts on Ork bodies as trophies and giving them looted orkified weapons. He even had looted Destroyers that where the hovering platform and the gun and it was piloted/manned by 2 grots and then he had multiple examples of these orkified necron units throughout his army.
As another example I'm making an Apocalypse army with the basis being my Tau and my plan is to take at least one unit from almost each codex and represent them in my army as either a special type of battlesuit, auxiliary or drone. For instace I'll be representing Tyranid Spore Mines as a type of mine drone programmed to detonate on impact, (maybe) a tyrannofex which I would represent as a type of giant walker drone with a heavy weapon, Ogryn from IG will be represented as hulking beastial aliens with heavy guns (modeled from Minotaurs without horns) and sentinels will be represented as Gue'vesa battlesuits.
So has anyone made or seen armies like this?

I don't know of any examples, but I'd like to hear from others, as well. The fact that Apocalypse works with any unit from any army being fielded together almost makes me wish I played different armies. Sadly, as a Black Reach Baby (playing Ork and SM armies that I've expanded from the boxed set), I just can't fluffily justify an alliance between the two, so I won't bother to paint/model one in. If I use them together, they'll be two separate armies tossed together for a game.
Now, if I played Tau, it'd be easy to pick up a unit or two from several other armies, tie the color scheme and iconography together, and claim that they have been converted to the greater good. Well, at least "easy" in the sense that the Tau fluff has plenty of room for slaves/mercenaries. I'm sure there are plenty of intricate and artful ways to go about doing so.

Once I get my Daemons up to the level I'm wanting them to be at, I'm planning on building a fair-sized collection of Traitor Guard to ally with my (or a buddy's) Daemon and CSM armies for larger games. Though the idea of doing a few units as gue'vesa also appeals....

Did you make any special conversions for them though? That's what I eman is not 2 armies that someone just put together and have a story for but armies they've converted to fit in together.
So like converting special daemons to be counts as tyranids allied with a daemons of chaos army

My Sons of Ouroburos chapter (name pending to change, since I'm an indecisive git. They might end up being named The Immortal 300) are teamed up with my Imperial guardsmen whenever apocalypse is a concern. I'm even going to use a converted marine as Strakken (the marine is considered a diplomat and is given some special techmarine equipment to explain the increased strength and 2D6 pen) painted in the Sons' colors.

Well I couldn't convert them as IT wasn't my army. But I made the lore. Thats about it.
I have seen an Imperial Guard and Orc army combined that was super cool.

I thought about adding a Baneblade to my Space Marine army and I'm thorn between painting it my Chapter's color (Crimson Fists) or the color of the Rynn's Guard (Rynn's World PDF).
Painting it like the Rynn's Guard is tempting mainly because I could start an IG army and have an epic and fluff fitting army...
Just need to find an ork player to kick my ass, and we're all set!

I'm taking cues from the Land Raider rather than the Baneblade for the aesthetics of my Stormlord, so that it fits better among the Rhinos of my Sisters of Battle army. It's also going to be built around a small church, with the second story representing the Stormlord's fighting platform.

I plan waaaaay down the line after my Orks get a nice 3000+ army going, in getting "slaves" for a Apocalypse force. Mostly IG, giving them all a Orky feel and ruined city style bases to match my Orks theme. Maybe one day the IG many even become a real army, someday.

Actually, yes, I do this, in a couple different ways.
I have three armies:
1. Iron Warriors.
2. The Black Crusade (Abaddon, 3 squads of 'zerkers, 3 squads of PMs, and whatever else I feel like stuffing in Chaos-wise). Doesn't include the Iron Warriors gear.
3. Jenen Ironclads - IG traitors who are allied with the Iron Warriors. They're also canonical; they participated in the Eye of Terror campaign.
Depending on the scale of the Apocalypse game, I bring the Iron Warriors, the Jenen Ironclads, and the Black Crusade (in that aggregate order). You really can't ignore ten LRs and Abaddon, or so I've noticed.

Iron Warriors - 4000 points (non-inflated, full FOC)
Black Crusade - 1500 points (non-inflated, led by Abaddon)
Jenen Ironclads (traitor IG/ABG) - 4000 points (non-inflated) |

My brother played tau and I play tyranids, so I thought about modeling a tau signal tower with the idea that the tau made a synthetic hive mind transmitter, could also be an objective marker. Some jerk said you can't replicate the hive mind signal; so I changed my idea to that tyranids and tau work together because I feel like it.
So much for creative support these days.

I bought a bunch of Escher models to use for my guard, but ended up with a few guard models anyway. As I have a rather large tyranid army as well, those guards (as well as a few future purchases) will be converted to Genestealer Hybrids just for Apoc games A few scything talons here, a few rending claws there ... I do have a few of the original Genestealer Hybrid models, but certainly not enough for a full force.

I'm currently making an apocalypse army of Chaos Space Marines, Chaos Deamons and traitor IG. I wanted to make a big force but couldn't keep intrest in a single codex for long enough to gather 10,000 points from just one book. So the logical thing was to work with what I have to make a combined force. Link to my slowly updated blog is in my sig if anyone is interested .

I've gotta say, I like the idea that was mentioned earlier of a device that overrides the Hive Mind's control over the swarm. More likely to be an Eldar creation than a Tau, as it would probably require considerable psychic prowess to make, but could be a decent explanation for an otherwise rather unlikely team-up.

Well you could use the same idea just tweak it a bit. Instead of having the machine emit a synthetic Hive Mind (which I kind of agree is impossible as it is kind of a vast psychic entity and when the fake Hive Mind was detected the real one would have it attacked and destroyed) have it emit pharamones the same way Lictors do. So maybe do something similar to what Kryptmen did with the Genestealers, then seed the planet with pharamone emitters from orbit that attrack the nids to certain targets or something like that, still have to deal with the Hive Mind though.

Mine doesn't include IG! Mostly.
I started out with BA, originally, and branched out into Inquisition as a second army for three reasons: the models, the fluff, and the fluffy, fun, and easily justifiable apoc possibilities. I'm having fun ideas for Grey Knight and SoB armor schemes that will mesh well....unified, but highly contrasting.
I did pick up a used baneblade on ebay...it is, unfortunately, currently a heretical, cultist abomination, but I'm working on purging it of Chaos and reclaiming it for the Emperor.

Thought I'd let everyone know about some of my units I'm designing. These are mostly vehicles and drones at the moment and I haven't come up with names for all of the counts as weapons systems.
1: Grouper ATC (armored troop carrier)/counts as Ork Battlewagon
While the Orca Dropship is the primary means of deployment for Tau forces it is not the only carrier used by the Tau Empire. The Grouper ATC is a slower less mobile cousin of the Orca but what it lacks in speed it makes up for in armor and armamant.
Limited to atmospheric movement the Grouper was designed to deploy mass amounts of infantry to a hotzone while providing maximum protection. It is capable of holding 30 passangers while it's Iridium armored frame allows it to shrug off all but the greatest incoming fire. should the need arise the Grouper can be fit with heavier weaponry where it assumes the role of a mobile support base.
2: Megaladon Super Heavy Battle Tank/counts as Eldar Scorpian
As the scale of warfare undertaken by the Tau increases so too does the need for more powerfull weapons designed to combat the technololgical giants developed by those who have not embraced the Greater Good.
The largest tank produced by the Earth Caste the Megaladon carries an empressive payload of weapons allowing it to target a variety of foes. So great is the power of this tank that it's use is rarely sanctioned by the Shas'ar'tol.
3: Dragonfish Gunship/counts as Fireprism
A variant of the standard Devilfish chasis the Dragonfish wields and experamental weapon called the Neutron Cannon. After extensive study of the crystals located on the Vespid homeworld the Tau have developed an artificial means of regulating the energy radiated from the crystals.
However such is the size of the equiptment needed that the Vespid remain the only infantry capable of wielding such weapons. The Dragonfish also fields a varient of the Disruption pod which makes the vehicle almost impossible to see unless firing or if viewed at night as the large crystal housed within the weapon emits a erie glow along the barrels length.
4: Man-O-War Mine Drones/counts as Tyranid Spore Mines
The Tau Empire is well known for its use of drone intelligences, an act deemd heretical in the eyes of superstitious Imperium of Man. Among the various drones created by the Tau exists the Man-O-War Mine Drone.
Often deployed from atmosphere via Tiger Sharks these mine drones have only so much intelligence as to determine friend from foe. Upon landing the drones explosives become armed instantly causing them to detonate violantly once they come into contact with anything not listed as an ally.
5: Viperfish Assault Drone/counts as Eldar Vyper
Unlike the majority of Tau A.Is which are housed within a simple body the drone intelligences of the Viperfish are housed within a modified Pirahna chasis. As the vehicle does not require the space for a rider it has a greater weapons armament available then the standard Pirahna.
Also unique to the Viperfish is the inclusion of a secondary A.I, while one pilots the vehicle the other is programmed entirely for weapons controle giving the vehicles actions an air of precision. With the combined controle of two A.Is, the mobility of the Pirahna chasis and the variety of weapons available to the craft the Viperfish is a rapid response vehicle able to handle almost any foe.
6: Archelon Shield Drone/counts as Venomthroape
As the Tau lack the ability to wage the wars of attrition so favored by the older races the lives of the Empires warriors are highly valued. To help ensure as many Fire Warriors and trusted auxiliaries survive the various battles throughout the Empire the Ethereal council tasked the Earth Caste scientists with the creation of a device that would offer mobile protection to ground forces. Shortly after the Archelon shield Drone began field testing. Using an experimental powersource the drone is able to expand the range of projection enabeling it to protect multiple units.
However as a side effect the powersource creates a by product of a toxic and slightly acidic gas that must be regularly vented from the drone in order to prevent internal damage. While the Tau and their allies are immune to this gas thanks to suplimental enzymes introduced into their rations the enemies of the Empire have no such defence and will often suffer fatal reactions from breathing it in.
Despite measure taken by the Earth Caste scientists field tests have shown that the canisters which store this gas prior to ventilation are not completly resistant to the gas itself. This has caused malfunctions in the droids as small leaks release gas which then eats away at the otherwise protected internal systems, this has caused the drones to mistake enemy forces for friendly. As it is programmed to protect friendly forces it will often move towards enemy formations who must quickly destroy it.
